    Ryzen literally brought HEDT down an entire price bracket. It's crazy when you think about how just a year ago buying a processor with 6 cores would've cost more than 2x as much as I spent on ryzen.

      Now if only vega had been good.

    • @crazyjak56
      @crazyjak56 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's fair. Personally, having waited for vega and having passed up many sales on 1070's for 350 and 1080's for 400 dollars I'm not gonna act like I don't find vega lacking.

      not rly, a Phenom II X6 was 190€ back in 2010. Intel just droped the price on there Mainstream 6-Cores, thats it.
      Intel is still ahead especially in gaming and poor optimized titles and programs.
      That being said, Intel trolled pretty hard with there same pins same socket i7 8700k release on the Z370 chipset. I have a Z170 board and will never be able to have a new 6 or 8 Core CPU ;(, so im watching the AMD Boys and maybe at some point im giving the octacorebeast a try.

      2kliksphilip: My bad on the numbers, I was going by an article from /r/AMD Which has since been debunked, however the performance being near GTX1080 was still proven to be true...the GTX1080 can OC too ofcourse which can make a gap between them once again.

    The comments under tech videos aren't always the best, but I think this video illustrates a valuable truth. Fierce competition pushes industries forward. Weak competition causes them to stagnate.
    Remember this the next time you get an urge to dive into the comments and swear blind allegiance to your chosen brand/product.

    • @kjaesp
      @kjaesp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      brand loyalty is always bad. There's a difference between preferring a product because you've always used it and never had issues or was greeted with good support. However, saying all else is shit / trash because you don't use it is.. stupid. Enables companies like intel and nvidea to misuse that loyalty and create a monopoly which they are both guilty of trying their hardest to achieve through less consumer friendly methods.

    Ryzen has been a blessing, coming from a Core i3 6100 to an R5 1600 was amazing. Now if only DDR4 would return to normal prices.

    AMD's biggest disadvantage is software optimization for their products or lack thereof.
    What AMD needs to do is recoup a large chunk of the marketshare in order to get software developers to give a damn about optimizing their stuff for AMD's platform.
    Ryzen's IPC actually isn't that far off Coffee Lake, but Coffee Lake has beastly clocks and software optimizations on its side.

  • @hercules_0882

    You forgot to mention the stock Wraith coolers that Ryzen provides...
    They are a pretty solid alternative till you can afford to buy an AIO or smth. And it will keep your CPU cooled even if overclocked!

    • @BladeScraper
      @BladeScraper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed. The stock Stealth cooler kept my R3 1200 at perfectly reasonable temps at 3.9GHz even during stress tests.
      I only upgraded to a Corsair H60 because my PC sits less than 1m away from me and I wanted it to be as close to silent as possible (the stock one is not "loud" by any means, but the H60 with 2 x 850rpm Phanteks high pressure fan keeps it below 60 degrees and is completely inaudible)

    • @sydam8280
      @sydam8280 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @allenqueen

      Ryzen-Good enough in single core,amazing in multi core,amazing in price
      a 320$ r7 chip to compete with a 450$ i7 ata cheaper mobo,is far better than good enough.

      People don't understand what IPC really means. Ryzen is pretty competitive and really close to Intel when it comes to IPC (Instructions Per Clock). It's just frequency that Ryzen is behind in. I wish people would recognize the difference between IPC and Frequency.

    • @TheCatOfWarCSGO
      @TheCatOfWarCSGO 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnathan Bloch - Yeah absolutely this. Hear a lot of people throw around that Ryzen has trash IPC when it's simply not true. It's proven to have Skylake-levels of IPC in multithreaded applications

    • @ristomladich246
      @ristomladich246 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      multithreaded applications like what? Blender internal rendering which no one uses because its limited in applications and also cycles is much better and fast because it uses the GPU for rendering... or video editing which I personally do not know about but from what i gathered in a quick search is that again mainly a gpu related affair.
      Ryzen has 3% worse single core performance compared to my 4670k at stock I dont understand how its at skylake levels which is about 25% better then a 4670k last time I check from what I could remember.
      im going to use my 4670k until 2020 or maybe even later depending on when Arma 4 is released, as it does everything I need it to do and I do demanding things on it like blender, freecad, Gimp, ect.

    Ryzen is basically Intel's Nehelem, first gen of a new architecture. Sandy Bridge was Intel's smash hit, an iteration of Nehelem. So Ryzen + and Ryzen 2 onwards, should be stellar since their foundation is so solid!

    • @hydrochloricacid2146
      @hydrochloricacid2146 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yak nehalem and sandy bridge are very different architecturally. SB might have borrowed some aspects, but many parts are quite different as well

    • @AKK5I

      Yak if the next ryzen clicks higher, it sure will, AMDs ipc is very close to Intel's nowadays

    • @4RT1LL3RY
      @4RT1LL3RY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am actually hoping Ryzen+ is exactly like Sandy Bridge. I'm still using my i7-2600k @4.6ghz with a GTX1080. Once NAND and DRAM prices stabilize and Ryzen+ comes out I might finally go for a cpu, mobo, ram replacement.

    • @SilverforceX
      @SilverforceX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually Intel is still on the CORE architecture which is derived from the Pentium M a long time ago, first debut as Core 2 Duo etc. Nehelem took it up a notch and was the first with their ringbus and memory controller on chip.

    just upgraded from an i7-2600(non-k) to the ryzen 1700, although gaming performance isn't that much better it's amazing how little cpu usage i have with it while playing games

    • @jorge69696
      @jorge69696 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to be an ass but if you waited a bit and went for an 8600k, you would be killing it in gaming performance for the next 5 years, just like your 2600 did.
      But now you have a cpu that's barely an upgrade over your old 2600. Check if it's possible to sell the platform and upgrade to intel for a bit of money.

    • @groden0
      @groden0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      my cpu + b350 mobo cost me £210 while that cpu + z370 would cost at least £350 currently, i get prices will eventually come down though.The difference in upgrade would be better spent in upgrading the gpu if i wanted better gaming performance too. Although I got my stuff at a really good price so if someone was building new they may be better off going with the 8600k for purely just gaming.

    • @BreakingDimes
      @BreakingDimes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Groden what gpu do you have because the there should be a lot better in gaming and what is the 1700 clocked at

    • @njsullyalex2744
      @njsullyalex2744 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But in reality, is an 8600K even that much of an improvement over the 2600 in gaming performance? Even a 2600 non K will barely bottleneck even a GTX 1080ti.
      Intel gaming performance has not even improved that much over the years, which is why there are so many gamers still using 6 year old Sandy Bridge. That was the last big jump in gaming performance. Plus, there is no game Ryzen can't run. My R3 1200 overclocked has had no trouble with games so far.

  • @MajatekYT

    As an Intel fan, it's great to see AMD showing up the bigger CPU manufacturer. The more competition there is the better, and the more options for the end consumer. I tend to go with extremely small highly specific builds - all which Intel have covered, unfortunately, so I won't be able to make an AMD rig anytime soon.
    Still, I wish AMD all the best in spite of the controversies that happened with its Vega GPUs and the likes. We need a company like AMD to offset otherwise by-default monopolies like Intel.

    • @user-wx2wx9fl4i

      Majatek uhm extremely small specific builds? Wdym lol

    • @MajatekYT
      @MajatekYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certain motherboard/GPU/expansion card combinations with the micro ATX form factor are limited to Intel-based CPUs as the motherboard offerings with the smaller size is more limited as most (if not all afaik) AMD alternatives don't have more than one PCI-E slot that runs at the same speed, among other things. We're getting into the weird overly-specific, "are you making a workstation/capture card build" or "is it going to run one more than one operating system" territory - as examples. :P

    I own the R5 1600, and I believe it's the best "bang for your buck" chip. The hyper-threaded six-core CPU is perfect for game streaming and media creation, and it's also a pretty good gaming chip as well. All that for around $200 USD? Hell yeah.

It's similar to my old 4770K in single threaded stuff, possibly a bit better, but blows it away in multithreaded work, which is a lot of what I do. And it does all this at lower temps and lower power draw from what my numbers read. I'm not over Intel or anything, but I can definitely say it's an upgrade, and a fine one at that.

    Thanks to AMD's supply of low-price high-performance cores, I was even able to get an 8700K for my build. It's just been a pain in the arse to run swarm agent on my "old" xeon 1231v3. Even without overclocking, I was surprised that the upgrade tripled my speed in this matter. I hope something similar happens to RAM at some point, but we don't have enough competition going on and overall ram chips don't seem to be a good business at the moment. Maybe 2019?

    I was thinking about upgrading this past year but ultimately decided not to. I think what would make me jump onto ryzen is if they try to start increasing there core clockspeed. Especially for those of us that are mainly using these CPUs for gaming.

    Been loving my 1600 :) Once the Ryzen+ architecture hits shelves, I'm definitely jumping on the R7 train. Although, as soon as next GPUs appear, I'm dumping my RX 480 for Nvidias xx60 line. Their GPU end is quite the joke, especially their OpenGL drivers in Windows. Otherwise, the CPU side is phenomenal.

    I completely agree that Ryzen is more than good enough for gaming, at 4ghz it's hardly a bottleneck except than with the highest end of gpu (end even then 140+ fps is great in my book).
    However there's no arguing that a 5ghz intel chip is more futureproof, but maybe the next AM4 gens will carry enough IPC improvement to close the gap. I doubt that Ryzen+ (1.5) releasing early 2018 will reach 5ghz, but I really hope it'll do 4.5 at least (best Ryzen chips can get to 4.2 so maybe it's still a bit of a stretch).

    Built my first PC with Phenom II, and I upgraded to Haswell in 2015. While that CPU is still fine for now, by the time Zen 2 rolls out I will probably be more seriously looking at upgrading. When I went haswell I definitely learnt how much less competitive the mobo prices are. I'd be happy to go back to AMD if the gaming performance is right. Glad to see they're competitive, though, it's forced intel to release better products.

    Hey Philip.
    Just wanted to say that if I were you I wouldn't trust all gaming benchmarks made with Ryzen as some might well be off by a significant margin.
    For example, a channel named HardwareUnboxed (great channel btw) recently made a video benchmarking CPU performance on PUBG's latest build. On the graphs shown Ryzen perform worse than Intel but in the gameplay clip that he recorded that couldn't be further from the truth.
    Just print screen the beginning and ending of the clip and see by yourself the minimal frames, averages and max frames.
    Thanks for the video btw.

    i used to have an i5 6500 which i paid about 220€ back in the day, a few days ago my new ryzen 5 1600 arrived, and not only does it have much much better multi core performance (even better than most of i7 processors, including last gen's x99 processors with the same amount of cores and threads) but it also manages to beat it in single core with an easy overclock from 3.2ghz (stock) to 3.7ghz (which is not even where it will be capped, more like 3.9 up to 4.1) that i was able to achieve with the stock included cooler, which is a little loud i'll admit, but can definitely hold a good 0.5ghz overclock, which made my cpu-z benchmark score go from about 380 points to 420 in single core, which already is much more than my "old" i5, not to mention that the "old" i5 is basically an i5 7400, which may be priced lower compared to the 1600, but it's only about 20€ cheaper which the ryzen is totally worth (and i have no doubt a 1500x could handly beat the 7400 if overclocked)

    The issue with "good enough" is that if and when at all it becomes better than Intel. It could be this year it could be in 5 years. One major thing going for AMD is that their CPUs don't have major exploits in them and it's why I'm going AMD in the next build ( I don't need anything at the moment, as I'm running a 4790k with a 1080ti ), my next build is more than likely a year away.

    I own an Intel+NVIDIA system, but I can't help but respect and even prefer AMD over those two. For such an underdog company with a less vocal community, I'm glad they did so well. Quality wise, Intel and NVIDIA are superior, but for the average consumer AMD pays off much more. Similar performance at a lower price.
    The new GPUs aren't super great compared to the CPUs, but they finally rolled out ReLive last year, which was rather buggy at the time I was using it, but so is Shadowplay in my experience. And again, the GPUs also offer similar performance to NVIDIA cards for a much lower price. It's very impressive to see AMD tackle two opponents at once and doing quite well, at that.

    I'd be hard pressed to replace my i5 2300 and i7 3770K in the next several years because of the stagnant progress. I remember the times when the P4 was painfully slow within 5 years after purchase. My current PCs are still going strong for me. Plus, there is barely any software to properly tax the system apart from brainless mining. People might be at the limit of using all the power, being too disorganized and dumb for big ideas.

    this upgrade to ryzen is so tempting from my dying 860k @4.1GHz system but DDR4 prices and sparse availability of mITX Zen based boards are keeping me back ;_;
    honestly I've started thinking that Intel is paying board makers to not make ITX boards for ryzen, holy shit the asus B350-I STRIX is nowhere to be seen yet the Z370-I STRIX was availible from day 1
    now I also feel tempted to buy a Z270-I STRIX and a Z370-I STRIX to see if they are just rebrands with different BIOS firmware so the Z370-I doesnt accept Kabylake or Skylake CPU's.
