      AMD won't release their version of DLSS called Super Resolution to APUs since these kind of features require special hardware requirements to run, for example to run DLSS you need an RTX card with tensor cores, and most likely same will apply for AMD's Super Resolution meaning that unless they happen to include these hardware features with their next generation APU's, which I doubt they will, you won't be able to upscale games for improved performance.

With no graphics drivers on 5.4, 5.7, 5.8 and 5.9 not even booting with graphics drivers enabled and neither touchpad nor HDMI working correctly it is safe to say I can't recommend the use of new AMD laptops with Linux 'til 2021. Hey Philip, they did mention how much Rage Mode and SAM matter (not in the live announcement). RM 1-3% SAM 6-7%. Although I do agree with you that not everyone will be able to use SAM, they did only use it in their benchmarks on the 3090 vs 6900xt, and people who will get a gpu that's $999+ will get the new CPUs and 500 series boards. Their versions of ddls and raytracing are still in development and dlss won't be available at launch (driver patch later). Raytracing will be about 20% worse. Anyway, thank you for the good summary of the event and let's hope for a good price-war to come.

      @ScryTv the amd cards seem better for 4k gaming as they have more more vram and rt is fucking useless. RTX features are literally gimmicks apart from perhaps shadowplay, but with the multitude of alternative recording suites available now I dont think its really worth mentioning. I think a big factor to consider is going forward is that most gaming cpu's will be ryzen. I think some lawsuits might be brought forth to stop this new technology.

    The fact that AMD's new cards appear to be quite good and on par with Nvidia's offerings is some real good news for me. I'm a Linux gamer and Nvidia's famously been real annoying when it comes to Linux while AMD actually does a pretty acceptable job. So for generations you always had to chose between decent support and good cards. If AMD's cards are really as good as they seem here and on top of that don't melt, this might finally change. I'm looking forward to it.

    The large VRAM amount makes AMD the clear winner for machine learning workloads... or it would be if Nvidia's CUDA api wasn't so dominant over OpenCL/Vulkan in that area that you're practically forced to buy nvidia.
    Competition can't exist in the ML space because the industry had handed Nvidia a monopoly on a silver platter. AMD can't compete even if they wanted because they'll never be allowed to implement Cuda in any of their cards.

      There's a reason amd cards were favored by bitcoin miners in the crypto boom a few years back: Radeon's architecture is better than geforce's for compute tasks like hashing and tensor operations. The only reason nvidia dominates the machine learning isn't because their cards do anything special but purely because ML framework developers choose to use CUDA over OpenCL/Vulkan. Thankfully that is changing with newer frameworks adding opencl and vulkan support so that amd cards can be used aswell

    A couple of inaccuracies in the review... 1. They do have a comparisson available showing difference with SAM on and off and 2. Rage mode isn't one click overclocking, it's a boost to the power limit which means the card is more likely to achieve its boost clocks for more of the time. The actual boost clock isn't changed so there is still potential for overclocking.

    Rage mode only got you a 1-2% increase while SAM(Smart Access memory) was responsible for the rest of it.

    You addressed my exact worries about this presentation. I'm not SUPER worried about ray tracing. I can handle having way less fps with it on (as long as it's ~60 in 1440p) in select singleplayer games like metro and cyberpunk. However not having a DLSS equivalent is going to hurt bad in any game that's got DLSS 2.0 or 2.1 as it just allows or even beats that 60fps mark in most modern titles. That might be the real pain here for AMD. otherwise, I'm pretty happy with what they showed and I'm definitely considering a 6800XT.

      Call it semantics but by definition rage alone isn't increasing max clock speed the same way raising the power limit doesn't.
      However, if you end up reviewing these cards I'd love to see if manual overclocking benefits from the additional power headroom as well as thermals and if it can be stacked with other effects.
      Gamers Nexus, for example, has made multiple videos, old and new discussing power modding on Radeon and how it's not actually overclocking. If you're interested I recommend checking them out as they've done more testing than I have.
      The reason I seemingly got so hung up on semantics was because some may interpret what you said as a cause for instability and voiding of the cards warranty as overclocking traditionally is, whilst Rage mode does not.

I think in reality its actually a 30% reduction from the previous models, and the "50%" is being pulled from half of the new power consumption numbers. for example;
    Original power: 100,

    You appear to be unaware of FidelityFX. It is another name referring to a mix of in-driver features and middleware to be implemented by game developers. AMD GPUOpen is the equivalent to NVIDIA Gameworks (major difference being that GPUOpen is under MIT license and hence less black boxy to a developer). So when they say "we have an improved denoiser" it means that their collection of middleware contains a better denoiser. That is not a hardware or driver feature. But they also mix Dx12 Ultimate and recent Vulkan features in there.
    DLSS is middleware afaik, contrast adaptive sharpening for example is not. I presume AMDs "Virtual Super Resolution feature" will amount into an industry standard library that more devs might be willing to adapt. Also we can expect great implementations from game developers working on primarily console focused upscaling algorithms that would trickle down to PC (already happend with some great temporal upsampling implementations)
