You've done pretty well there Stu--shame that some of the basic items were out of stock--you'd think they would order more of the things that are popular!!. But as you said, these things can happen from time to time. Guess this is part and parcel of comparing supermarkets! Who knows, on a different day you might of got all the items you ordered and been completely happy with Asda. See that Millie obviously had her opinion on the matter!!😄 Have a good week Stu!
I've been planning meals for over 20 years now, which helped when my husband was alive and we had three kids under 12 to feed, helped when I was caregiving for my elderly parents, and still helps when it's just me and the little dog. I mix and match to do soups, chilis and stir frys and also use my grill. Noodles, rice and beans cost less when purchased in bulk, as does soup mix. I have two online meat companies that ship with dry ice, and prices much better than the supermarket. My deliveries next week will allow me to stock the freezer and pantry enough to last me the rest of the year and into next year.
I think you did well too, Stu. You have a good variety of food. I usually opt for Sainsburys and book a saver slot (4hrs....3pm to 7pm) Almost always get delivery between 3pm and 4pm which is great. Last week I ordered a pack of 40 teabags. They were out of stock so they sent me a huge box of about 160 for the same price! Pleased about that. They'll last me until Christmas 😂 Angie
Great shop Stu. Shame about the substitutes though but you’re making the best of it. Looking forward to the meal planning because that is something I really need to start learning to do.
Thanks for doing this supermarket series, it was really helpful and has made me consider looking into sainsburys! I choose the late £1.50 asda delivery usually too, and they'll often come a bit earlier which is handy. Plus I take the trolley to lidl in between for the cheaper items they stock and pick up asda reduced bargains in store in the evenings. All these tips help so thanks for sharing👍
I stopped shopping with Asda because of so many substitutions. It was happening every week. It's not the end of the world but we have food intolerances in my family and it takes me ages to shop anyway, so turning up with a load of different products wasn't great really.
So does this one grocery haul get you through the month other than having to get wraps from somewhere else? Does Milly need additional chews as well? Pups need those chews or there goes a shoe or the corner of the couch by my German Shepherd. Love to see the different shops in the UK.
Hi. Stu. Hope u enjoy you dog chews. Ha ha. Food selection looks OK. Surprised asda didn't have everything you need. We're back home now. Thanks for advise on skeg Vegas Premier Inn steak house. Hope u enjoy the lovely weather coming up. Best wishes to u both. David and Beverley Norfolk
I think I may have "out frugaled" myself. Now that I know that I can successfully grow fruits and vegetables, I have a place for freshly caught fish very reasonably priced and I found a beef provider who has great deals, the two biggest grocery expenditures after factoring out coffee and creamer, are pizza and pasta. So I bought a pasta maker AND a pizza maker and that will be MAJOR savings!
@@frugalstu Making my own pizza and pasta will literally save me hundreds of dollars per year. I can put those savings in my gas tank, since I'm so close to everything and can take my golf cart to the beach and supermarket if I wanted to.
I do Walmart pick up and with substitutions they always try to find something similar. Usually more expensive name brands. They notify me if things are out before I actually put the order in. Their site is pretty user friendly
I remember when morrisons was seen as a cheap supermarket - I think it's the most expensive now. I usually shop at Aldi as its the closest but I think sainsbury is pretty good the the quality is decent
Is it possible to find out when that store gets their deliveries? Then, if it works with your budget and shopping schedule, make your order the day after the delivery so they'll have time to put the items on the shelves and you won't get unwanted substitutes.
@@frugalstu I don’t know why my name shows up as yvettenj on certain blogs and just yvette on others…weird! I go by yvette. Just to let you know ha ha 😁.
How do you stretch that for a month??? We have what you ordered for a week and a half, just my husband and I. I like Aldi, but also have walmart delivery sometime. Helpful hint for walmart delivery, if the date on an item is good till next day you can ask for money back by hitting the return button online and put expired for reason on return and they refund you immediately. Also if you didn’t like the quality of something you ordered you also hit the return and for reason you get a drop down menus and just click on poor quality and they refund you and you do not have to return to store the item. I do it all the time and they are great about it. I do give a tip to driver but it is optional and not what they put on website for recommendation. I usually give 5 dollars for 150. Dollar order, because I pay 13.00 a month and can get free delivery anytime in that month as long as it is over 35.00 each time. If you don’t pay the 13.00 a month they charge 9.95 for one order alone so I think it is worth it, because I spend less on line then going into the store, so it is a win, win for me. As far as substitutions go if you don’t like the substitution just click on do not like the substitution and they also refund you and you can throw away or donate to a food shelter if you haven’t opened the can or package. Hope this has been helpful. I have done all above many times with no problem getting refund to my credit card. If for some reason, they don’t refund you you can call the 800 number for food delivery and request it that way, and you always will get a refund. Sometimes they give you a 25.00 credit towards your next order for your inconvenience. Yes sometimes I get soft tomatoes but I just put expired and get refund for them. Good luck if you try walmart next time. 😃
Thank you Margaret that's very insightful and very helpful. My food bill is just for me and it does take some research to get it low. But also food prices in UK are cheaper ♥️👍👍
The running out of stock I expect is inevitable if you go for a late delivery slot. Quite understand why you opted for ot though. As I am at home now I go for a wide ranging midday slot. This means for the sane money you have paid for delivery, I get the choice of a 4 hour delivery window. No problem if you are around all day. I find substitutions are minimal then.
Don't know what's happened with Asda lately but since the eg group have taken over things seem to have gone downhill. I used to be a regular Asda shopper but 6 months ago I swapped to a combination of Aldi & Lidl because of the rising prices, out of stocks and general scruffy look of my local Asda store.
Stu you are so patient. I am trying to be more stoical about everything but I’m afraid I’d have been annoyed about some of those subs. Millie looks very interested in the steak 😁
@@frugalstu I know a couple who do their online shop at Waitrose. If what they’ve ordered isn’t available Waitrose substitute it for a posher, more expensive version. 😂 can’t imagine Asda doing that! I claim mental health reasons for not frequenting Asda😁
I’ve stopped shopping at ASDA, they are crap. I used to like them but they seem to have massive issues with stock and the budget range is very poor compared to Sainsbury’s. I think it shows with your shopping haul, stock issues and poor dates on products.
Thanks for the inormation
Thanks for sharing your food shop with us!😀🐶

I think you got a lot! I shop Aldi in the US and my budget is $37.50/person/week.
