I just want to point out that Koopa Cape was 17 milliseconds away from a tie. That is almost exactly ONE FRAME. Absolutely insane how close of a shave that was.
@@masterfreeze1054 the thing is that tas gets to manip for perfect rng with tiny tweaks here and there, so if a random outcome is possible tas gets it for free
@@joyride6062 It still costs frames to manipulate the RNG, and sometimes you simply don't have enough leeway to get the best result because you got a bad sequence of RNs at a critical moment.
My wife often remarks to me that we should watch more movies together - I reply, "I dunno, honey, I don't really like watching movies." I then shamelessly watch a 95 minute TAS of a children's kart racing video game and think to myself, "This is time well spent." I see no inconsistencies. Great TAS btw.
General Strategies: - Driving in reverse to get to the first item block - Staying back for most of the race to get Mushrooms so progression can be made - Waiting for specific frames to use items - Using ultra shortcuts when possible
@@CristianTrainafrom what I know, computers are fully incapable of true random, so RNG (Random Number Generation) is effectively deterministic based on specific criteria. What waiting for specific frames does is manipulate RNG in such a way that it produces a desired result. Think of it like rolling a die and knowing _exactly_ what it will land on if thrown in a specific way. Any game with any sort of remotely random element probably makes use of RNG. In Mario Kart’s case, what items are given out of Item Boxes are likely determined by RNG. If you can figure out the generation criteria, you can effectively read the RNG seed. DS/3DS era Pokémon, alongside BDSP, are know to use the system clock to initialise the RNG Seed, for example. In the case of a TAS, however, save states are most likely used to brute force RNG for a desired result instead of actually reading the RNG state. In the Playback, the multiple resets for the brute forced RNG would look like the Player is just sitting there doing nothing.
TASes are usually like these super precise frame-perfect-filled marathons of magic but this is so hilarious to watch Funky Kong mock the NPCs by stopping in the middle of the track waiting for the whole field to drive by over and over again LOL
Grumble Volcano looks crazy!! Also I think this is the first time I've seen what happens when you reverse into a half-pipe ( 18:14 ) and when a thwomp tries to hit someone in a mega ( 1:11:46 ). Well done!
At first I was confused because I use the Wii wheel and the A button is just what lets you look backward, but then I remembered what it does on other controllers and was much more impressed.
Delfino Square was crazy impressive. I would never have thought about that course not having items for basically half of the track centered around the finish line. This is amazing!
Usually the credits 1 sequence isn't anything to write home about but it ended up being quite fitting for how most of the races along your journey played out...
I guess it does save time, so it's technically not purely style points. Although I'll admit that I doubt anyone challenges this record anytime soon. That said, eventually someone will, and I lowkey wonder if this is clearable with the box jump.
bc3 was so lucky because first place got combo'd just before the finish line! anyway this was awesome to watch :D so nervewrecking and so impressive! well done
It would be cool to see a TAS where you could only turn in one direction each track. Like, you choose left or right and commit to it for the full race.
wow this is really cool!! i think a great follow up to this would be to do this challenge in mario kart 8. im curious what that game would require to move forward without any button presses. (in seriousness great video lol)
"Your victory is a fluke, I'm-a get you next time!" "I will destroy you without even pressing the gas, man." They all laughed at Funky Kong. It couldn't be possible, they were sure of it. But with Spite, Funky Kong can do all things.
love how funky kong is just so incredibly enthusiastic and happy for the whole thing. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you were one of the other racers, taking the competition seriously, then this guy shows up, screaming with excitement the whole time, reversing sometimes, crashing into things, generally causing mischief, and then he wins every time.
Yep Funky is that uncle you take your Wii to when you can't beat the finale boss on your own. Then you find out years later he also beat all the bonus bosses but didn't wanna crush your spirit. Just let you know it was possible.
Coconut mall just ended up being Funky Kong looking for a parking spot
Typical mall experience lol
I like how doing the ultra while reversing is not actually much faster than a cpu doing a normal lap 😭
🤣
I just want to point out that Koopa Cape was 17 milliseconds away from a tie. That is almost exactly ONE FRAME. Absolutely insane how close of a shave that was.

Things I learnt in this video:
1. Every funky kong boost voice line
2. Sandbagging is very very OP
3. This TAS guy is very good at the game
If you’re wondering, this is 100% worth watching in its entirety.

Funky Kong: can’t my A button is broken

What a finale.
This part of credits has completely like the finished 32 races.
That run on DK Summit was absolutely brilliant, take my like
the gap jump and ultra on mushroom gorge went crazy lol
When he said "NUT" and "NO NUT" I felt that.
This is going to blow up. I can already tell. I hope you get the recognition you deserve. This was fatastic to watch.
That grumble volcano one went crazy
Amazing TAS, but my favourite track has to be GV. The barely working triple ultra was amazing! Good job! 👏
Wow this is so impressive!! Good job! - from France
This feels like a sibling of the jumpless challenge for new super Mario bros Wii.
DK Summit was unexpectedly hype to watch, all those mushrooms scattered by the lightning and the trick ramps made it possible to front-run.
Ridiculously cool challenge, hope we can see more for other Mario karts

The incredibly slow ultra shortcuts destroy me. Just slowly backing up in a parking lot outside coconut mall wins Funky the race
that trick at 16:26 is outright godly
That third lap on DKsummit was hilarious! Mushrooms free for the taking everywhere!

I love how you turned a racing game into a tactics game
1:13:28 why did peach not win this? she didnt spin out so wasnt hit and she is in a car so didnt get wheelie bumped
My explanation is that Peach hit a thwomp that was on the ground and because that doesn't spin you out, Peach couldn't win
Nothing short of incredible.
That KC and rbc ending was worth all of the time you spent on it tbh

About the description, i dont give a freak if it is "fake" or not, its amazing all de shortcuts you do, even if you cant accelerate

Watching reminds me of the times I've won a few races against CPs in Super Circuit after giving them a whole lap head start (5 Lap race).
You’re probably the greatest MKWii player out there
Did I spend one and a half hours watching this?

I bet finding mushrooms on the ground was really exciting
This looks like how everyone plays in MK8D online 😂
But seriously, impressive work!
wow really cool idea! I can't believe it was possible to frontrun dk summit!
If you think about it, it's actually the easiest to do because of the sheer amount of trickable ramps, half pipes and bumps
Im seriously impressed that this is even possible, awesome tas!

Nope. Pure game knowledge and RNG. And ultra shortcuts. Can't forget those, lol😂
