- I head off to scour Triumph's Spanish network of dealerships in a final attempt to find a gasket for my Bonneville.
And Monika and I grab Valencia's most famous drink; the Agua de Valencia.

Thank you so much all for getting in touch to help find the Triumph Cylinder Base Gasket (part number T1160127).
I had so many kind messages and helpful emails, so I wanted to thank you all here as I’m hugely sorry I can’t reply to them all.
To give you an update/overview;
I’ve contacted a number of different companies in the UK that say they have the part in stock, such as Worldoftriumph.com, I’ve then paid the money for the gasket, but I’m then contact to say that the part actually isn’t in stock and then refunded the money.
I’m almost certain this part is nowhere in the UK.
I’ve also contacted a number of different gasket manufacturers, but they won’t make an individual gasket for me- they will only deal with bulk orders.
I’ve also queried with different bike mechanics if the gasket can just be cut out from gasket material I’ve been told this isn’t possible (ie, it needs to be a genuine gasket).
I think the part has hopefully been located in Hungary (2-3weeks shipping, potentially), and a gentleman in the US has found one for me on the American eBay!
I massively appreciate the help, thank you all and have a fantastic weekend!🙂🙌🏻🙌🏻
I put a link up Freddie but tbh I think it was the wrong part. I'll put the word out to TOMCC, you never know. Hope you get it sorted soon.
Most gasket companies will make a small batch, for a price.
Get a quote. Fix your bike and if it works, sell the rest to cover your costs ?
I don’t believe the mechanics? Also if that’s true? How come you can even buy gasket material?
The only thing that would stop that gasket being made in copper is that you can get your hands on the thickness required to maintain the correct piston squish height and anyway that could be “tuned” to be correct with shim steel if required or skim the barrels to suit.
In addition I see that Wiseco make Bonneville head and base gaskets and say they have them in stock.
Plus try Cometic, see if they can help you out if you don’t want to make one
Looks like TH-cam doesn't like comments with links (been deleted twice). Anyway, took a look at a photo of the gasket, and doesn't appear to be 2 dimensional; looks like it is stamped from aluminium sheet, which would explain why the mechanics cannot hand cut one, and why the old one cannot be reused. Bike-parts-triumph claim to have them in stock (on their website), but I guess you may have already tried them
Hey Freddie, found the Base Gasket T1160127 for 26€ and a Headgasket T1152915 for 80€ at German Dealers online. Let me know the Partnumber you need, would be a pleasure to help find the part and send it over to you👍🏻. greetings from Germany
Well done
I also looked in Germany and found one out of curiosity as I live in Austria…
I love your videos, man. Very slick and entertaining. Well done, as usual.
Thank you so much! It is the Cylinder Base Gasket: T1160127 Gasket Base 2 Cyl Dia 90

Thank you Kus🙂🙌🏻
Another vote here for asking Allen Millyard to make you a gasket. He's an engineering genius and you could make a combined You Tube video on it.
Allen was my first thought too. A piece of card, a pencil, a hole punch & his Swiss Army knife
Yeah but Allen will only supply a gasket if he can add more cylinders to the T120 at the same time, whilst keeping its appearance stock :)
Seriously, he's a really great bloke but T120 owners should not have to call in favours from the likes of Allen to keep their bikes on the road.
@@derekp2674 A T120 triple, that would be interesting to see 😉
Hell ya. He”ll make ya gasket and cupcakes
And it would fit just perfect.
Monika is a rare breed indeed..was I the only one who heard her say " you're gonna have to get another Bike"!!! Wow..fantasy island!!! She's a keeper Freddie 🤣🤣
Hate to repeat what a lot have said in the past Freddie . Making a gasket is not a big deal. I worked in engineering at sea for 35 years. As you can imagine you cannot nick to a dealer when in the middle of the ocean. We always carried a selection of gasket materials should the need arise. Find a good old engineering company or even a classic car company. I assure you it is not difficult. This predicament could have been remedied weeks ago and very cheaply. Good luck!
Well said David 👏 my Father made all he's gaskets. Triumph need to come forward with a explanation and make an effort to put back confidence into they're company but l doubt this will happen.
Monica saying buy a new bike before freddie even thinks a about it is absolute relationship goals.....great video as always 💙
She’s a bad influence!😆
@@FreddieDobbsor a good influence 😎
@@FreddieDobbs. Is it a cylinder head gasket?
*Just to curb the enthusiasm by 1%, note that spoke wheels usually requires inner tubes. That means calling for a tow instead of fixing a puncture on side of the road.*
If ever there was an advert for NOT buying a triumph this is it, how can it be so difficult to get an engine gasket.
My thoughts exactly. As a previous Triumph owner, I would now be very wary of buying another.
@@haxan6663 dido, cant understand it. its not like its a super rare bike the bonnie is their bread and butter bike
I've heard triumph called the smoke and mirrors company 😏
This is becoming more of an issue for many brands of vehicles and not just motorcycles either. It's better business for the manufacturers to sell you a new vehicle. Of course in many cases the aftermarket fixes the issue, but sometimes there's not enough profit in that and some parts are complex enough that nobody has the capacity for producing them in a profitable way.
I bet they are made in Thailand, total sell out of UK labour.
Freddie, you need to get one made, it would be far easier than the search for the Holy Grail.
Agree - get one made - a local engineering shop in Ipswich should be able to use the old gasket as a template and make a new out of a sheet of copper. Job done!
I’ve been thinking the same thing
Freddie get a street triple
💯 agree ...
I agree with the previous comment. In addition made several to keep some in stock.
This whole saga has turned into an major public relations disaster for Triumph motorcycles . I cannot believe they sat back and watched this lack of customer service unfold. What a shambles for their PR. Freddie has 100k + subscribers and I bet any potential customers amongst them are seriously questioning if they would buy a Triumph. 🤔
Well apart from the 'fan boys' who would buy one no matter what 🤷🏻♂️
Just sold my speedmaster. Terrible customer service from the dealership and very underwhelmed with the whole triumph experience. Now have a Harley sport glide and couldn’t be happier
Shambles Suzuki, Yahama, Honda, and Kawasaki have lots of cheaper after-market parts, so look at another manufacturer, I say.
I bought my second bike this summer. I was seriously tempted by the Triumph Tiger 900, but I went for KTM instead basically because of local dealer support.
I can get a gasket for my 1954 Triumph with ease.
I own a 2015 Triumph America LT. The one knock, and it’s a serious one, is the lack of parts out there for Triumph. This is something really needs to give their head a shake about. If you want to create a brand that people will love then support your customers!
Very interesting to hear from another Triumph owner with similar experiences
Triumph have let themselves down, there’s nothing else to say, proves that when I fell out with Triumph it was far from an isolated case! Enjoy the 350 classic👏👍😀🏍, Cheers!
Good choice, 👍No matter which big motorcycle you have , a Classic 350 is a must have nowadays,no other motorcycle has the character in that segment atleast.
I checked with Triumph here in the states. Your gasket is readily available. I drink coffee at the Triumph dealer in Roswell Ga. yes also a coffee shop. Anyway, we looked it up and no problem.
I have recently taken delivery of a Speedmaster Chrome, exactly like the one you saw in the Valencia showroom. I negotiated to have heated grips (and the Triumph radiator guard) fitted free of charge as part of the deal - the very Triumph heated grips you were admiring in that showroom. They are great! Single button - you press it once and "Lo" comes up on the speedo display, and the grips heat at low power. Press it again, and "Lo" is replaced by "Hi" as the grips go to full power. Press the button one more time and the display shows "Off" for a few seconds, and the grips switch off.
I've only had the bike a couple of weeks and much of that time the weather has been awful, so so far only 200 miles on it. So still getting used to it. But also so far.... I LOVE IT!
I admire your restraint in respect of Triumph aftermarket experience. They seem to have the same attitude as Apple. 😢 Enjoy your upcoming RE 350 and when back in Blighty trade in for an Interceptor 650 🎉
I am shocked that Triumph UK do not carry a stock of spares for their own bikes! Even service items, like gaskets. It's quite incredible!! If someone like you, a prominent TH-camr and vocal Bonneville enthusiast with over 100k subscribers can't get them to pull their finger out, what chance the ordinary owner?! Heck, they shouldn't even need to get their finger out. These sorts of items should be readily available off the shelf!!
You may have to go to a custom gasket maker to sort your problem out here but in the meantime I certainly wouldn't be throwing my money at another Triumph to fill the gap. Not after this customer service disaster anyway...
You could pick up nearly new/new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 for between £5-6.5K to see you through and sell it on in a year if you wished and loose very little. Worth a thought perhaps...
Not made in Uk anymore.
Freddie, buy an old Suzuki V strom 650. bomb proof reliability , great winter hack sub £3500 for a good one , you won't be disappointed and then you have time to fix you Trumpet !
Freddie, Thank you for highlighting the supply issues from Triumph. I have seriously been considering a Triumph Scrambler for some time now, but this is just unacceptable from a manufacturer. It’s time for me to consider other marques now. Keep up the good work 👍
There you go Triumph! another lost customer, all due to a stupid gasket...unbelievable!
Bare in mind his Bonneville is 13 years old. Supply is very different on their newer bikes.
@@thefooleryoftom13 years old ! That’s not even run in.
I was thinking of one of the new tr 400s as a 2nd bike, but I think I'll give it a miss, looks like triumph couldn't give a hoot
@@thefooleryoftom yes but for how long? So you buy one as a keeper and parts dry up 13 years in? Then what?
Freddie, why is it you just reminded me of Charlie and the kids enthusiastically grabbing wonka bars! Loved how you wanted to feel and touch everything. It put a smile on my face. What more can anyone ask for. And as for Monika, I loved how she managed you. Good job guys.
Thanks for all the insights into this matter, fantastic example of why not to purchase a Triumph. They seem too big for their boots these days. Had a terrible buying experience with them, poor customer service, everything an extra and a useless warranty so never purchased in the end. I’m starting to find these instances across other brands, it’s as though they all think their as big as car brands/networks yet the pool they sell too is extremely small.
you can tell when Monika is impressed as my wife Linda does the same ,they say mmm. nice video ,nice music . lovely place .
Freddie, how difficult would it be to make a base gasket? Waiting for 2 months is ridiculous. Are there any classic bike specialists that can make you one? (I see someone suggested Alan Milyard, I bet he would be able to find a solution). What on earth are Triumph doing? You should be on the phone (or indeed go in person) to their managing director and ask that he personally finds a solution. If they can't get a batch made, they should get one cut by hand. This should be done for any customer, but even more so to a customer with a hundred thousand TH-cam subscribers. Come on Freddie! Even more so COME ON TRIUMPH!
Good to see you in Valencia Freddie. You literally walked straight past Jimmy Glass Jazz Club! Best venue for jazz in the city.
Cylinder head gaskets are complex items but base gaskets are simple affairs and easy to make unless there is something special going on down there.. Good luck with your quest.
Here in Ireland my Triumph dealer is also a Harley and Ducati dealer, all in the same showroom. Heaven!
Do you need a base gasket or head gasket? The base can be cut from suitable paper, but the head is a composite construction.
I thoroughly enjoyed that. I admire Monica's camera work: Smooth: No shaking or jerking (unlike so many youtube vids). That, combined with how relaxed you both were made for an extremely pleasant watch.
agreed
such a shame about the triumph ... but you only live once bite the bullet and go for a harley the sport glide looked good on you 👍
Royal Enfield is waiting for you with open arms, awesome bikes and endless parts from India if even necessary.
I had a similar problem with finding a TPS from my scrambler. None in the US, I found one in England. Triumph needs to up their parts game. I bought a GSA to bridge the gap. Lol😂
Hi Freddie. I have a 57 plated DL650 V Strom you can borrow until your bike is fixed. I am trying to sell it at the moment (Autotrader and I am based in Weybridge if you want to take a look). She has 59k miles but is a stonking bike and can easily take a pillion. No strings, just take it and enjoy it if it helps you through the summer. It's a cheap bike so nothing to worry yourself over if something happens, I can fix it. Regards. Will.
Triumph haven’t made the air cooled Bonnieville for over 7 years now so I’m not surprised that they don’t keep stock on the shelves for it tbh.
I had a gasket set for my 2012 Bonnie until a few months ago and tried to sell it on eBay with no success so I ended up throwing it in the bin! 😮
It‘s ludicrous not being able to get hold of a basic wear and tear item, hope you both agree on a solution for the future.
Thanks for taking us through Valencia, looks gorgeous.
Big hugs and lots of luck Freddie
🥰
Seeing this and remembering our visit I much prefer Valencia to Barcelona.
A joy as always
Vienna and Valencia are to me, one of the two best cities on the planet. Saying this after touring the US, China, North Africa etc.
Ok 👏🎉 Freddy saludos cordiales desde el Puig de Santa María Valencia 😸
It will be out there somewhere! 😊 One gasket to rule them all 😅
Flippin Sandals Freddie & still as cool as fook ... if i could live my life again I'd want to come back as you ❤ fantastic ⭐⭐👍
I'm an engineer over here in the states and while I know gaskets (depending on shape and what they're made of) can be precision parts you can likely get the spec from triumph and have one made. Talk to a custom shop like Del boy's Garage in the UK and see if you can have one made. He also has a TH-cam channel and that could allow for a video collab. Heck, for parts like that we've taped down trace paper over engine parts and spec'd parts off that. You can definitely have one made. Just have to find someone up for the challenge
Freddie ..you can ask a Mechanic shop im sure you'll find someone already did a similar thing with gaskets...they will make a solution... its not that difficult as you may think..just ask ... choose the easy way to solve the problem 🙂.....
Or write ✍️ down here the Parts Numbers for us as a Followers you may accidentally find some help to find it and send it to you...
Greetings 💐👌🏻👍🏻
Is this what you need? *"Cylinder Head Gasket - OE - Triumph Bonneville 865 EFI - 2008 - 2016"* ? There is a famous auction site in which someone has one new *"OEM"* left for sale, they are in the UK. They have others also (different engines) I think your Triumph is the 865 - year 2010 - double check though with your mechanic. (I have no affiliation with any seller or any auction sites)
glad to hear the classic 350 is coming back, your video on it last year is what convinced me to get one. Absolutely loving it!
You can buy sheets of gasket material, we used to make our own back in the last century ;)
This time, he said base gasket.Earlier I though it was a head gasket.
Whatever, any decent apprentice training school ought to be capable of making one as a "homer" but we do have any engineering apprentices left in the UK now?
Great vid brother! I had a laugh when I heard the infamous “lets go Freddie”😅 Famous words from a lady, hope you get this gasket fiasco figured out, ridiculous but when it does happen absence just makes the throttle hand fonder. Being in Arizona I do love our year round riding season
you just put me off swapping my 1200 gsa bmw for a triumph, thanks. I had a t100 black, vibration was a problem. after your videos of triumph parts, I won't touch one again. Good luck
Triumph speedmaster all day long have one myself its only 5 months old so not had it so long but a beautiful, beautiful bike just love 💕 it.
I do as well like the chrome and light blue Triumph. The Gulf racing colours on the o e Monica likes is nice too. I seen one that you like here at our local Triumph dealer. It is stunning. That was a few weeks ago and yes I checked for the gasket. They didn't have it... Lucky for me the they had the rubber head gasket I needed. Oh Cheers 🥂
Ohh Freddie & Monika great to see you both enjoying the sun & orange plonk👌 My lord, the Bonneville is toast. Long live the Classic 350. It’s not fast, but it’s fun. So great to hear you both cracking jokes & making Monika laugh🙌 Take care & enjoy your holidays ❤️
Amazon Freddie. 24 hours and you have the part. I’d make one myself, being a baby boomer, thats what we do!
Nice video, as is usual. I feel you don't even want your Triumph to be repaired, as this is such a great talking point. Anyway, you still getting bikes every now and then, and we all have new content so often. Good luck for your gasket, something tells me it will go for awhile (you know the guys below are right, there are people who making "custom" gaskets for living, some of them better than the original). I loved your most recent trip to Morocco.
Hi Freddie, you should consider getting a bespoke gasket made for the Triumph. I am sure there are a few specialist companies in the UK that could make one for you. Good luck with the search.
Looking forward towards Freddie's reunion with the RE Classic 350. His initial review (from Lithuania) is what sold me in this bike; my 14th in 55 years.
Once again a great video. Such a relaxing way to unwind after an exam. Keep up the good work!
It would be cool to see a Sumo on your channel, something like the Yamaha 250 WRx. A simple bike that's good for the city.
That would certainly be something new on your channel, but any bike is great!
greetings from Zurich, Tim
Thanks Freddie and Monica,
It must be frustrating to discover Triumph dealerships piled high with new bikes and accessories but not essential spares like gaskets.
At least for Harley, there are 3rd suppliers for spares such as gaskets, so I'll count that as plus for that make.
If you have the cash, you could do worse that grabbing a nice used Harley to ride while your British bike is off the road.
Springers are very special Harleys, so it's a shame that Monica doesn't seem to like them. They're not cheap to buy used though...
For an affordable used Harley, you probably need something in the region of £5k - £8K.
This IS a lot of money but you could get a nice 1200 Evo Sportster or an Evo or Twin Cam Dyna for that. The 1994 (and on) Dyna Convertable is a forerunner to the Sport Glide that you recently enjoyed. (Please steer way from FXRs - they're reserved for special folk like me!))
When I owned unreliable Italian bikes, it was often necessary to have a spare bike. Anything cheap and cheerful but reliable should do.
My historic spare bikes were a Honda CB 200 Benly and a Honda CB400T Dream.
The Benly was cheap, 100% reliable and an absolute hoot to ride. My ex-partner kept it when we separated.
Folklore has it everyone hates CB400Ts because they replaced the iconic CB400F four hundred four. But having owned one of each, a sorted CB400T is much more fun to ride :)
These days, a nice cheap but reliable "proper motorbike" is probably Japanese with at least two cylinders and at least 600ccs. But other inexpensive options are available....
"Buy a new bike..." says Monica. Freddie, you silly man, MARRY HER already!
Hi Freddie, I can see how you must be struggling finding the part you need.
I’ve had similar struggles with finding parts and repairs going wrong, it can become demoralizing and feels like the world’s against you.
My own experience is when it all comes together the elation is so sweet.
The funny thing is that after 30+ years of this I never really remember the trials just the elation of success.
Proof of this is I’m currently restoring a 1970 Z28 Camaro which was parked up in a garage in 1985, so you can see how addicted to the journey I am.
Please keep the faith don’t give up.
It’s like a different type of journey with your Bonneville.
Chris
You need to call Triumph out on this one Freddie
Invite them on your next video to explain themselves
Maybe one is on its way to you but they should keep you updated
It's annoying as someone has probably got one hanging on a nail in there garage
Himalayan would be a good second bike to tie you over and also a good winter hack
I've got a 350 enfield classic in my dining room at the moment so will be interested to see if you still like it
What a beautiful city, I’m amazed you never bought a bike while there, that takes some doing. I hope you manage to source a gasket or get one made. I can’t wait to see your video with the C350, I absolutely love mine, great bikes that put a smile on your face. Love your channel, great filming by Monika.
Entertaining content again F and M. Thank you. I have a stunning Triumph T100 Black on offer.....😀
Making gaskets is not that difficult even if copper / alloy formed. I reckon you’ve told Monika that you need a new bike you can’t get the parts to repair the old one!
Well all your talk about Triumph I’ve finally gone and got one! You will remember the advice you and some out your followers gave me about the selling price of my Indian Chieftain Ltd, I took it onboard and went to a dealership and sold it, at the same time purchased a Triumph Thunderbird LT 1700. Wow what a great bike, do I miss the Indian? NO the Thunderbird ticks all the boxes and handles so well, and looks amazing. Thanks to you and the TH-cam community.
T100 & T120 share most components, the frame and engine are the same physical size. The T100 is a 5 speed 900cc HT engine instead of the 6 speed 1200cc on the T120, and has a single disk on the front. This makes it slightly nimbler to steer.
hi Freddie - an old school mechanic may be able to make up a gasket for you. That's what we used to do in the old days. You would need the old one as a template and you will be able to buy gasket material of the right thickness - worth a punt!
All your parts videos and cost of service videos for Triumph makes me glad I went with Royal Enfield. Now that agua de Valencia looks refreshing!
Yeah, you and Monika need the Speedmaster! 😊
I got Freddie's number on the gasket gig: Freddie doesn't 'want' to find one. That can help justify buying a new bike for a few weeks more of summer biking. Ya ya lol
Get an old v strom Fred. No reliability issues and very comfy for two. Will take you wherever you want. Keep a cheap 2nd hand one as a spare
Your comments about heated grips, they are great but what is better and more versatile is heated gloves.
I thought you were looking for a head gasket. A cylinder base gasket would be much easier to fabricate as it’s a much less stressed component.
Some great help on here Freddy, i would however also email John Bloor and get him in on the act.
I guess you could take the barrel, put some printers ink on the surface & press down on some gasket material & cut out the bits as needed. Used to do that years ago. If nothing else you have a template to send to a man who can 🤷🏻♂️
If it’s a base gasket then a good mechanic can make one out of gasket paper. Take the old one along and perhaps the cylinder.
You've all my empathy here - I'm currently going through my own thing with Triumph & my bonneville. From the point at which I discovered an oil leak, had the dealer repair it and subsequently deliver the bike back to me it had taken approx. three months. However, it doesn't seem the repair has fully worked.
I have given up with Triumph as a whole on the back of my experience and have decided to move back to BMW - I hope the same doesn't happen with you!
Freddie, buy a Classic 350 reborn. You, and Monica will love it!
After 40 bikes, I couldn’t agree more, classic 350 all the way.
Valencia and Barcelona next year for us. We are doing the Picos and Portugal this year. The east cost of Spain next year before Switzerland and Italian alps
Oxford now do heated grips with integrated controllers for 22mm handlebars. I reckon the HotGrips Pro Touring would suit the Bonneville best.
Thank you- these look BRILLIANT!
another stunning video Freddie and Monika, we need more of Monika in shot, sorry Monika :) nothing to worry about Freddie, just think it would be good to have your charming partner in the shot as well as her handsome chap... anyhoo... what is going on with Triumph? its beyond, way beyond disappointing, I am surprised that a true advocate of the brand is almost forced to choose a different brand, yes I get the bike's age plays a part, but that length of time is simply unacceptable, and surprising that Triumph have not jumped on this one given that you are such an advocate of their brand... totally bizarre... right, enough said... awesome video perfection.. thanks.. enjoy your time together.
Hay Mate DOT is a VERY old safety standard from the 1970,s . We had our own Safety in AustraliA/ New Zealand AUS/NZ etc , but they replaced this around 5 years ago with the ECU Helmet standard ( one of the best safety standards ) DOT is not legal in Australia and if the Police know the law you can be fined for basically not wearing a helmet. FortNine does a fantastic review on all the safety standards .
The blue and chrome Bonneville is beautiful, I have a DGR edition T120 on order but I'm quite tempted to swap for the chrome.
Just found this channel and newly subscribed. 👍🏻
I have many many bikes from a 2022 T120 all the way to a 1934 Ariel. I think someone else here mentioned to get a gasket made and I would recommend a copper gasket. There are a few gasket makers in the classic bike scene (I have spare copper gaskets for my A65’s). And this may solve your woe’s.
Also up here in North East Scotland and the midges aren’t as bad as the west coast…. But even now after half a century of life they still drive me nuts….
Take care.
I just got a Triumph XE and I am very happy with it.
But have to say you're dealing with this much better than I am.
My pulse would be slightly about normal, putting it mildly... 😏
Hi Freddie, as previously mentioned its no big deal to get one made or make one yourself. You just need the right material and the cylinder head to make a template. I made one for my old Honda CG 125 out of cardboard and made sure I used plenty of gasket sealant. The engine is still good and doesn't leak any oil after 2000 miles.
This has put me off from buying a triumph bike and I have had two before it’s pathetic that they won’t supply parts in Britain for a British bike. By the way got a quad lock and it’s great
I have to say it has put me off Triumphs even more, the fact that you can't get such an important yet basic part for the engine. Really, what is wrong with Triumph! I used to own an America quite a few years ago and waited a month for a couple of front mudguard bolts (they had a shoulder, they weren't just basic bolts), eventually the day before I was going away the manager of the local Triumph dealership kindly and embarrasingly took them off a bike in the showroom. It seems nothing has changed...
I sold my Bonnieville a few weeks back and know exactly how you feel. 😢 miss her still. Did I do the right thing? But have bought a classic 350 which hopefully be a couple of weeks. 😀 so will be super interesting now to see how you get on. Valencia looks lovely on our to do list now 👍
I’m the proud owner of that sweet T120 Chrome Edition. It’s an amazing bike.
What's trying to get out of the bag at the end of the video? 🤣
Another enjoyable video, wishing you all the best with securing the part. Good luck!
Another lovely video by the Monica Dob's team❤
Wow, It makes you doubt Triumph. I had heated grips on my 2010 thunderbird. They packed up and the accelerator grip sheared its housing . Triumph could not supply them and eventually I fitted Suzuki ones!
The Suzuki ones are still on the bike!
Three videos time: Freddie adds a brand new RE Classic 350 to his garage 😂😂
If he has any sense he will
@@sidweazel2883not going to argue with that one bit.
Considering the price of a used bonneville if he sold it, it would cover the cost of a brand new 350
Cheers Monika and Freddie
I owned Hinckley made Triumphs from 2001-2019, loved them. During that time the ownership of my dealer changed, the new one couldn't offer MOTs nor could they give a f***. My 955i failed near Strasbourg (parts that had supposedly been changed during a recall, Triumph Strasbourg quoted 2 weeks (about a week after I should've been back at work). Local small bike shop fixed it in 48 hours. Since Triumph started plastering their bikes with the Union Flag and moved production overseas they've lost their way.I'd love to buy an affordable bike made in the UK, but failing that I'm happy with my latest bike that's made in India. Such a pity Triumph have let you down. it'd be easier to get bits for a 1970s T140.
Definitely buy another bike and take us all on that journey, and let Monica choose. Could you imagine what would have happened if this problem (the triumph engine problem that is) occurred when you were in Morocco.
To be fair with Triumph, sourcing parts for many vehicles has been disastrous. It’s becoming the main reason I own four bikes - surely they all can’t break at the same time!
Freddie try Dobsons gaskets in Yorkshire. They will need a pattern to replicate. They were excellent when I needed gaskets for a 1930s AJS and they were quick to turnaround too.
Hope this helps, certainly worth a call
I remember in one of Henry Coles shows he had a pattern gasket made in the UK can't remember the company name, maybe worth a Google.
Triumph bits are a nightmare, my chain snapped when I was down at Wheels and Waves in Biarritz.
France estimated delivery 2 to 3 weeks.
I managed to get the bike recovered to Normandy, where I'd planned to spend the summer.
Ordered the part in the UK (aftermarket) delivered in 3 days managed to get the Triumph sorted here I Normandy so I now have 2 bikes here.
I'm riding one back to the UK at the end of August then come back out in September to get the Triumph.
Expensive nightmare.
In future I'm staying Japanese.
My 3rd bike was a triumph 650 in 1978 I kept it 3 weeks. Utter crap after jap 2 strokes and then cb350/500/750 which preceded and followed. The owner of triumph should read this vlog and get off his arse and make sure spares are ubiquitous
Perhaps consider getting a second hand Gen 2 Vstrom 650 as a cheap bike for the rest of your summer. You can find some for exceptional pricing and regardless of mileage they’ll still last you a life time. Comfortable, fun, reliable and good for two up. You could even find cracking deals on Gen3s depending on what your budget is 🤙🏼🇦🇺
Another great video. As regards to the heated grips please don't get them. I had them fitted from new to my triumph. They're good at anything above 5 Celsius but that's it. Oxford now do heated grips with a similar set up (No control box on display) all built into the grips.
Hope that helps.
If you still have the rental 350 can I suggest the mountains 40 min to the north around Serra is a lovely ride out. Beautifully mountain roads and old villages off the tourist track.
Have you considered a Guzzi V7 Special? Rode one recently, and it had a lot of character, and wasn't excruciatingly slow like the Enfields
Minute 5:47 , Monica says " buy new bike" that is unvaluable, my vote for Monica, ot many partners are like that
Back in the day , we used to get a copper sheet the correct thickness and made one . Just a thought.
