The fact this watch splits opinion so much underlines the point - it's individual, purposeful, therefore not for everyone. Having collected for 30 years, and this being the cheapest in my collection by a long way, say this: It's fantastic; love it! Unlike so many watches that have seemingly been become compromised in all but potential profitability and 'flexing', my 'FXD' does 'exactly what it says on the tin'. Even as a 'MN21' it's been de-stickered and enjoyed everyday. That makes this watch a success in my humble opinion.
Aside from the extremely high quality of this watch , the real genius is in the bezel as a redundant navigational system while conducting combat missions subsurface. Once you understand how the bezel actually works , one thinks , why hasn't anyone put this exact package together before this . as a former combat diver , originally issued a Tudor Submariner, I bought the FXD and absolutely love this watch . Can't wait to actually djve with it . Interesting review. thanx
Ironically, the Sinn 104 (a pilot watch) have the same setup and water resistance, just the countdown bezel is not lumed. It is vet practical for an everyday watch.
0 of 100 will use it as a combat mission tool, or a diver tool. there are plenty of computer and analog things that will let you to do the job easier, cheaper and more reliably. This is just a good expensive watch, nothing more
The solid bars make a lot of sense. The NATO strap was invented to keep a soldier's watch on the man even if a springbar fails. It would dangle around but a mission based on certain timings could be completed. Imagine the watch dangling from your wrist while trying to navigate under water. There's no room for failure! Hence the solid bars are only logical and because the piece is military themed, ther's no other option. Thanks for the informative video, it really stands out against all the hipe-vids.
NATO straps were not invented to rescue watches from springbar failures. The simple proof of that being that the watches that NATO straps were designed for NEVER had springbars. NATO straps were made to near 100% guard against a dive watch being caught on something and lost during a dive. Remembering that bracelets have over a dozen points of failure but a genuine NATO on a fixed bar watch has only one point of failure - the buckle pin that you fasten the strap with.
I think it’s pretty important to point out that it’s not as niche as it seems. Because it is used for underwater navigation, it can also be used for land and sea. Tudor notes this, but I think the water part was hammered a bit too much. It’s actually a great survival tool of all the batteries run out. Essentially, it has a stronger use case than is actually marketed.
Nice review Adrian, very thorough. I really like the solid bars for security. My LHD normally has a crafter blue strap, or a rubber b sink or swim, vital to allow me to loop it onto either my harness or rucsac when climbing, but the security of this design really appeals to me, bars can break..... But truth be told, I love my LHD and I continually swap straps/bracelets. Both the MN and LHD are equally effective for timing rehydration of wilderness rations and of course pizza at home, a benefit often overlooked in dive watches. I
Multi functional watches are always fantastic, but this one has my attention. Was on the fence with either the Ranger or this, and I think this video proved why everybody should own one. Awesome review!
I was the first in town to put my name on the list, literally during the press release, before anyone me included knew anything about the MN21 thing. The AD said: “you’re the first, you’ll get the call as soon as we get it”. After two weeks I get the call:”hello sir, you can come and try it, but unfortunately we have decided not to sell this MN21 piece, to keep it in the AD collection”. Note that I bought 3 BB58 and a P01 within two years from them, and put my name down on 3 Rolex (2 OP, 1 Explorer). I guess I’ll have to wait until I find a MN21 used, not going to buy anything from them anymore.
Another excellent video, Adrian! With such a plethora of TH-cam watch channels now available, I have recently decided to “slim down” the number that I’m subscribed to - namely Bark & Jack and The Timeless Watch Channel.
Love the fact that every single type of Pelagos was built to actually do something not a mere luxury style diver or something like that. Pelagos existence has a strong purpose, built as an ultimate tool watch, built to do something.
The FXD watches are my favorite tool watches currently in production. They wear way more comfortably than the dimensions would suggest. The Pelagos is a great family but the FXD really is it's own thing and has earned the right to wear the fully snowflaked dial.
I ordered one from the local AD as soon as I heard about them in November. I received the call in mid-January that it was in... to my surprise it was a MN.21. I prefer it on a regular NATO strap rather than either of the two provided. It's a cracking watch for the money.
Really liked this watch, but just realized that the bezel is a count down rather than count up, and seeing as I use my dive bezel to time my dinner rather than to located a place to plant a bomb for the French navy it probably rules it out for a future purchase for me.
Original Pelagos owner here. 100% agree about the bezel. It's really busy compared to the Pelagos. As for a purposeful watch with countdown bezel and 200m... Sinn makes much more visually interesting watches that fit this purpose. Minus the MN thing, of course.
Collecting my FXD 23 tomorrow. 23’s my lucky number, so it’s all the more poignant (to me). My LHD Pelagos can have a well earned rest for a while as the FXD will take over “Every Day Wear” duties. For my line of work (construction industry), the rubber strap will take precedence as it’ll be less likely to attract dust and grit. Great design
Used to own an LHD which I love. However I moved it on because I wanted the Submariner down the line. As soon as my AD indicated I may be able to secure an allocation for the non date Sub, I sold the LHD on. Got the Submariner 124060 in mid Oct so glad to have got it from my AD. Then my AD offered me a MN21 FXD three weeks later and any regret I may have had letting the LHD go disappeared- love the FXD for the thinner case and fixed bars. Despite no bracelet, I’m happy to wear this with a NATO. If l need a watch with a bracelet, l’ve got the Sub anyway 😎
Adrian, I freaking loved this review! Absolutely fantastic! I really love this watch - aesthetically it really does it for me. It's nice to re-consider this watch after the hype. I think now that everything is simmering down about the FXD I've only grown to love and appreciate it more. There's a lot to like about it! I just wish it was smaller to fit my wee wrist!
It might be time one of you two (my most enjoyable watch geeks) puts in line a 42mm divers' comparison. This, the SMP, Aquis, SeaQ..dunno, one for price bracket 😅😊
Love mine one of the best and most interesting watches that I own. The colors, no date and uniqueness, size, shape, thickness. I love how the face of the watch is so close to the crystal. Also I don’t think you gave the Julian Faure Velcro strap the credit due for its understated beauty and function. I would love to have an aftermarket version. I wear Natos exclusively with all of my watches and this strap is my current favorite.
Great video and glad you are feeling better. Watching this on my last day of quarantine. I love how you change the lighting in your studio space for each video. Love the mixture of warmth and depth you create in your framing. I got one of your nato 2.0 straps for Christmas and it is the nicest strap I have ever used. It has not left my wrist the past month. Cheers!
Welcome back! Glad to see you healthy and doing what you love. This watch was designed by literal professional divers to their specifications, meanwhile all the desk divers out there love to leave comments about how it's "too big", "fixed lugs are stupid", "countdown bezel is bad (i.e. the Submariner doesn't have it)", etc. But hey I'm sure the MN will consider your input on the next model. 😂 😂 😂
You need to see this piece in person to judge it. I felt underwhelmed when it was released, loved it when I got my hands on one, and needless to say i own a mn21
5:14 if the bezel is really used for that purpose. I feel that the bezel really needs a locking system so it can't be accidently moved. a unidirectional bezel has some guard against movement in one direction, if it moves then it woves in the direction which shortens your dive (safer). A bi-direction bezel feels so much insafe and I wonder if it's easy to move the bezerl. I know that a lot of dive bezels rotate easier above the water than below the water.
Aside from being too large for me, I’m a fan of this watch. Some say Tudor disappointed watch enthusiasts by including a bunch of common “dealbreakers:” Fixed strap bars, a busy bidirectional countdown bezel, & downgraded WR, etc… Personally, I think by being relatively faithful to the service version, Tudor challenged watch enthusiasts, and now they are starting to accept the FXD for what it is. It just proves that Tudor doesn’t “settle” and can still push the comfort zone of its audience.
Yup! It's purpose-built. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. Tudor couldn't care less. They didn't make this watch for you. They have plenty of other models that would probably suit you better. I happen to like the Pelagos FXD quite a bit! 😀
I was able to get my hands on one right before the new year…it has quickly become my favorite watch. I always loved the lhd but it’s just a hair too thick for my liking. I already have received my green and yellow Erikas original MN strap..I absolutely love this watch…great review sir
I don’t wear it everyday. I have a 5-6 watch rotation but I don’t have a mark on mine yet..just vacationed with it…traveling beach etc…it is holding up great…maybe part of it is no bracelet..that usually gets beat up 1st lol

I adore this watch. I hope I get one. I remember 3-4 years ago talking to my AD about Tudor hoping they release a Pelagos with dark blue dial. I would love this with Tudor Chronograph as a collection and both cheaper than one Submariner. Amazing.
Separate model? No way, but it shows Tudor’s commitment to the Pelagos. I’ve got the matte blue Pelagos and there’s a reason why it’s been so successful, it’s nigh on perfect so variations and limited editions were sure to happen and I say, keep ‘em coming.
As a blue Pelagos five liner owner AND diver i appreciate what tudor have done here, but you’re right, the lack of bracelet option kills it. One of the reasons to choose a Pelagos is the amazing bracelet and clasp.
Speaking about authentic tool watches, it would be great to watch you review the X33 and Z33... the watches astronauts really use today. I heard from Omega in GVA that they now issue two watches to each astronaut: the standard Moonwatch for historical purposes but also the X33.
ordered it from their boutique yesterday and really looking forward to the call, (whenever that happens!) cant believe though that Tudor are now playing the same waiting games as Rolex!
Adrian, I find myself on your channel more and more with a great coffee. I travel to England often. Would love to grab a pint with you sometime!... or a coffee, as it were! Cheers mate!
Totally agree with your contextual review It was created for the Marine Nationale and, as such, is exactly what they wanted. Desk diver complaints, whinges or often repeated wish list suggestions just sound pointless - so I am really glad you didn't go down that route. Bottom line is this is a cool uncompromising watch. Your strap does look very cool on it too lol
Tudor created for the French Navy ? 🤔 What about the French YEMA Navygraf Marine Nationale which we know became the official watch of our French colleagues ?! 🧐
Thanks to the release of this watch I bought a Sinn 104: 200m water resistance; display case back; count down bezel; 41mm; available on bracelet; less than half the price of the FXD. Apart from the movement, it's a superior watch for the everyday wearer.
I mean the Sinn is a great watch, however not comparable to the FXD there very different and in honesty the FXD is far superior hence the increase cost.
Picked up MN21 on second week of December together with the new 36mm Rolex explorer 124270. Surprisingly the FXD got more wrist time than the explorer from me 😂
I’m a big fan of the Pelagos and own the blue model, it’s by far my favourite dive watch - and yes, I do actually wear it as a redundant timer when I’m diving. I’m not sure that a dive team would use one, it’s cheaper to buy a watch type dive computer like the Shearwater Teric, this would show you time (using both your dive time and/or stopwatch and would also use the inbuilt digital compass and costs a third of this watch. I think Tudor might be bigging their part up a bit, I’d still like one though just because it has my initials on the case back :-)
Yep, there's no way a professional diver isn't wearing something like a Shearwater Teric/Perdix and is relying on a Tudor Pelagos as their primary information source.
I think you must remember it was built for a purpose. Can't say I like it, even though I love Tudor's quirkier pieces, love the Pelagos LHD and the P01. However, I agree that the bezal is too busy and your limited with the strap issue. It's one for the collectors for sure. Can't believe I saw one on the net advertised for 5.2k . This is exactly the reason why I won't buy pre-owned watches at silly prices. Buying them just perpetuates the market for people out to make a fast buck! Great vid as usual Adrian
I can’t really say it much better than you did. Your 100% right this isn’t a watch for just anyone or someone who only wants a one watch collection. It is a watch built for a specific purpose only and that is pretty much the only way it should be looked at
@@r0ky_M of course you can I was just saying it’s a niche watch it’s ment to have a specific appeal to it and not be as versatile as some other watches
please do a review/video of history and info on the JLC Sector Dial of the Master Control. I think it is the classiest "simple watch" I've seen under $10,000 and I can't find any online. Thanks. love you stuff.
Really good point regarding the discrepancy between the actual military version in comparison to the retail. So what really is the point of the retail watch then?
Great review Adrian But we know you really like the original Pelagos so which one would you choose?? I have the LHD and don’t think I would swap it for the FXD 👍 LHD for everyday and 925 for Sunday best 😉
I'm interested in this watch... Just gotta find an AD that has one I can put on wrist. Thanks for the great info, didn't know there was a military only version made.. and I have to agree.. They should have just offered those to general public...
I’ve had the LHD for serveral years one of my favorite watches have never worn it on a strap. Now with my FXD it’s straps only but I like it can’t scratch a strap😀 it’s not bad !
I live in an area where it wouldn’t be easy to try one on, even if I did travel they might not be available, wondering how these would fit on a 6.5” wrist? It’s a large watch but it seems like it wears well despite the lug to lug
There are bound to be more of these. Provided you don't need year 1 with MN21 on the back, don't buy into and feed the hype. There will be more and become easier to find. It's a pretty niche design anyways and the fact it cannot sport a bracelet option will be a major turn off for most buyers... Especially if they are also the types that don't like NATO straps, also. I get coolness of the singular purpose driven design of the FXD. But, I wouldn't mind if they develop these into more options down the line. Keep the FXD design. But, maybe further differentiate with a more civilian friendly version has spring bar options and a matching bracelet. Will that kill the current 500m Pelagos? No, I don't think it should. That could still be the heavy duty dive tool watch. But, for those who want a trimmed down version with a more than sufficient 200m WR such as the FXD, but without the FXD case/lugs, I think giving the options of choice would be good.
I really like this direction that Tudor is going in. They seem to be evolving into Rolex of old, and most likely by design. That said however... the FXD is actually unappealing to me personally as some who uses this type of watch for professional purposes, simply because the Sinn 104 exists and I wear and use it as a tool in my kit on a daily basis.
To my eyes, this is the most beautiful watch ever made
Most comfortable watch I own. Especially using a single pass strap set-up. Great re-review
Exactly!

The Tudor Pelagos with the sky blue dial is the most beautiful blue dial watch I have ever seen. I have to have one eventually and I love it!

The reverse-time shot at 1:02 is super cool. Watched this video several times without noticing it.
Both the MN and LHD are equally effective for timing rehydration of wilderness rations and of course pizza at home, a benefit often overlooked in dive watches.

thanks for this video! i like the dial and the titanium case, but i wish it had a bracelet.
Prefer this to the Pelagos to be fair! Really functional piece with a fantastic background.
I love it... just there's many watches that I want to by before it, even from Tudor. The regular black bezel pelagos being one of them.
Wish I could order a LHD version of this. That would be awesome.
ordered it from their boutique yesterday and really looking forward to the call, (whenever that happens!) cant believe though that Tudor are now playing the same waiting games as Rolex!
Looks great on you brother. Another great video, I really enjoyed it 👍🏼
Adrian, I find myself on your channel more and more with a great coffee. I travel to England often. Would love to grab a pint with you sometime!... or a coffee, as it were! Cheers mate!
Great review, thanx!!
The watch looks amazing on your straps!!!!!
1:02 I see why this is a very different watch to the Pelagos, this one runs backwards ;)
Glad I wasn't the only one to see that! Thought my coffee was just kicking extra for a bit.
The FXD was created for the combat swimmers of the Commando Hubert. A specialist arm of the M.N.
The Yema M.N. Is for all personnel.
Thanks to the release of this watch I bought a Sinn 104: 200m water resistance; display case back; count down bezel; 41mm; available on bracelet; less than half the price of the FXD. Apart from the movement, it's a superior watch for the everyday wearer.
No thanks, prefer FXD
I mean the Sinn is a great watch, however not comparable to the FXD there very different and in honesty the FXD is far superior hence the increase cost.
Adrian we missed you man lol. Great to see another vid
Missed you too buddy.

It is a watch built for a specific purpose only and that is pretty much the only way it should be looked at
@@WatchUnwind
LoL .You can wear FXD like
any other watch if the
idea is to tell the time.
@@r0ky_M of course you can I was just saying it’s a niche watch it’s ment to have a specific appeal to it and not be as versatile as some other watches
@@WatchUnwind
It's no diff to a Rolex submariner ,
in that most purchasers will only
ever buy them for show, never
requiring the dive features.
the Rolex Seadweller also has these irregular increments on the bezel -- four between 0 - 5 - 10 - 15 and then three after that.
6:34 - I like lefty watches, is this still possible?
please do a review/video of history and info on the JLC Sector Dial of the Master Control. I think it is the classiest "simple watch" I've seen under $10,000 and I can't find any online. Thanks. love you stuff.
Really good point regarding the discrepancy between the actual military version in comparison to the retail. So what really is the point of the retail watch then?
$
There are some rumors that the FXD is being discontinued after 2023, have you seen any indications or heard anything through your contacts about this?
Really good explanation of all the bizarre "versioning" behind this one.
Another fantastic video and seamless plug! But one question: when’s the Exp2 video coming?
Great review Adrian
But we know you really like the original Pelagos so which one would you choose??
I have the LHD and don’t think I would swap it for the FXD 👍
LHD for everyday and 925 for Sunday best 😉
I'm interested in this watch... Just gotta find an AD that has one I can put on wrist. Thanks for the great info, didn't know there was a military only version made.. and I have to agree.. They should have just offered those to general public...
Yes I agree, Tudor should have made the retail version as near as possible to the military one.
Great video Adrian, as always 🙏🥃
Thanks Mark 👍🏻
I wonder if the Grey Seventy 30 strap would suit this model as well as the grey tubular?
Explorer II 226570 Polar white review PLEASE😌
The navigation term your looking for is 'dead reckoning'.
I’m going for this one I think got to see it in person still but it might be the one
Love your lighting in your videos
I bought it and it’s real good
I’ve had the LHD for serveral years one of my favorite watches have never worn it on a strap. Now with my FXD it’s straps only but I like it can’t scratch a strap😀 it’s not bad !
i ordered one, can't wait for fit! Not sure if it's going to be the 21 or 22 model.
Worth the wait. Best review of this meh watch.
Cool watch, perfect with B&J straps
Hi Adrian --just got a MN21 in to review ...and i really really want it ....
