      Bought a brand new 2023 Limited WRX six speed for 6K under msrp. I negotiated everything over the phone. It’s my seventh brand new WRX!!! I’ve had every color except the orange or white. I went with the Base. Didn't want a sunroof, and I think the trunk on the Base model looks the best. 😎 17k miles on my '22 and no regrets choosing the Base model. I did add the factory fog lights after picking mine up, and about to add the LED fog trims.

    • @VB_Bryan
      @VB_Bryan ปีที่แล้ว

      is there any way to go straight to the LED Fog trims without having to buy the OEM bezel? I have a 23 base and really want to add the bezel with the LED but don't want to buy the OEM Bezel just for the foglights.

    • @icemantuck2638
      @icemantuck2638 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OEM kit comes with the fog lights, the bezels, a fuse for under the hood, and the on/off switch. I don't know if you would save much money buying the parts individually minus the bezels v/s the kit. There are some Subaru dealerships that sell parts online for under list price. I paid like $285 for the OEM kit. It is plug and play.

    • @DilbertReckinridge
      @DilbertReckinridge ปีที่แล้ว

      Completely agree. The sunroof adds extra weight ... and at the very top of the car, marginally raising the center of gravity.

  • @bretthansen8166
    @bretthansen8166 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I purposely bought the base model. I didn’t like the big screen on the limited which is gloss black and will scratch easily, preferred the dual screen which is easy to keep clean, and simply looks better than the ugly big tablet.
    Didn’t want a push button start, heated seats, etc, it’s just more electrical nonsense that can go wrong in the future. Didn’t want a sunroof as I wanted the solid structural integrity of a full roof.
    I already have a 700whp Camaro 6MT, and still have my bone stock 2007 WRX STI (not many are stock) with 59k miles.
    If there was any performance enhancements I would have gotten a premium, limited etc, but truth is that stock, the base is the fastest with no sunroof, lighter weight without the gizmos and most structural sound.
    The base is the best value and performance for the $, was an easy dicision. My 2023 came with the STI short shifter and that’s it, got it for $34k in California after taxes, registration etc with an 8 yr 80k mile warranty. I already have a fast car and a Hawkeye STI so I was happy with the purchase 👍🏻

    If you want a nice daily driver and are looking at the wrx; in my opinion, spend the extra money and get the limited. For a daily that you use for a commute, you'll really appreciate the significantly better speakers, and the more comfortable ultrasuede seats with lumbar support for the driver - I recently had a couple of 6hr trips, and I had no comfort problems at all. Plus, on the limited you get a bunch of "soft touch" leather in the front dash that looks and feels better than the premium and base trims.
    Also, make sure to look at dealer pricing, limited trims (and GT trims) are usually discounted higher than base or premium trims. If you're just comparing the MSRP, the premium looks like the best bang for the buck, but actual pricing at dealers for base and premium trims were kinda crap. In my area, after dealer discounts, a limited was only ~3k more than premium trims. base was around 30k, premium was 32k, and limiteds were around 35k.

      @keiser255 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soft touch interior stuff is pretty nice, and good point about possibly getting bigger discount on more expensive models... On the upgraded interior bits, I noticed someone else had a video out about a optional OEM ultrasuede inserts for the door panels, dash and console - looks NICE. Thinking about doing that one myself.

      Another VB Limited driver agreeing. Im loving the hell out of it as a daily driver. The sound system is definitely a step-up for someone who likes havig the music on while i drive to keep me focused. The heated seats and the remote start is awesome for when i leave for work at 11p.m. in winter. I did get mine factory customized with a few style updates which pushed the price to $40k+ at the end of the day, but absolutely no regrets.

    • @dieseldouche7735
      @dieseldouche7735 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the 2023 limited models are $37,000+ before options, closing in on 40 grand for a wrx is pushing it. Would be nice to have a sunroof delete option as well because if you're over 6 feet tall you'll likely have your head brushing the roof with the sunroof option.

    I bought a base 2 months ago. LOVE IT!!! It’s a work car, so I don’t need all the fancy options (I have a 2021 GLC300 with all the fancy options). I don’t like black wheels so I have no choice but the base. The split screen is fine for me and it’s easy to use. I installed 4 JL Audio speakers and it sounds quite good now. Wrapped the car and now has body color flares. The only thing I wish it has is the keyless entry and push start button. At $30k, 6 speed, 270hp, AWD, it is the best value and best car period!!!

    The benefit of the GPS in the limited is that you will always see the local speed limit on the digital Speedo. To me that's priceless. I use Android Auto, so yes, traditional GPS I don't care about.

    • @keiser255
      @keiser255 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I've noticed that a lot of times the local speed limit doesn't show on my limited. Maybe it's just me, but I've also noticed that it seems to show up often right after passing a speed limit sign, so I thought the camera might be reading the sign. Getting from GPS makes sense, but odd that it's not there a lot of the time.

    When I clicked this video I was a bit apprehensive cause I bought the premium and felt like I was gonna hear something that made me regret not getting the limited or the GT. After watching this video, I am glad I got the premium. All the extra stuff on the limited and the GT i really didn't care at all about. Didn't care about the seats or seat material. Didn't care about the moonroof. The better sound would have been nice, but not necessary. Mine did come with the performance transmission, the eyesight, drive mode select and RAB. So, thank you for the video and helping me feel much better about my purchase!!

    Australian model for a base has:
    - Rear passenger air vents
    - Front fog lights
    - Larger infotainment screen
    - Keyless start button
    - Keyless entry
    - 18” Gunmetal Alloys
    - Daytime Running Headlights/Led
    That is because we only have 3 trim levels in Aus.

  • @paulyg21

    I went back and forth between Premium and Limited. I ended up with the Premium.
    I didnt care about the power seats, I actually find power seats in my wife's car annoying. I didn't care about the upgraded stereo but my wife thinks thr stock stereo doesn't sound great, so maybe that is needed if you are an audiophile.
    I dont need moonroof, keep that weight down.
    The two features I wanted are the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
    The other factor is that wanted the sapphire blue. Took a lot of calling around to find a car in that color. Most dealers didnt want to bother investigating a transfer. And when i asked about chance of finding a sapphire blue limited the guy said "fat chance". So I would have had to factory order it.

  • @huudstar91
    @huudstar91 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The difference in trims is so interesting. Here in Australia we essentially have 3 different trims. WRX, WRX RS, and WRX TS. The base for us would just be the WRX, and the GT would be the TS. RS I assume would be the limited as far as I'm aware all of them have blind spot monitoring and should have eyesight for the my24s. That includes the manuals

    • @Konformation07
      @Konformation07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the Premium is your WRX. Base comes with the dual 7 inch screens which Australia never gets at all.

    • @keiser255

      Some regions also get rear seat heaters. No freakin clue why they left those off the US models!

    • @huudstar91
      @huudstar91 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get rear seat heaters for the RS, and I think the TS as well. What I don't get is why we don't get the memory seats and only the TS gets that. The top spec manual should at least get that.

    I went with the '22 MGM Premium with HK & Sunroof - Only thing I'm missing is the Blind Spot Monitoring, it should also be on this trim in my opinion.

    • @steve8803
      @steve8803 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @stlroofer314 you're also missing the much nicer seats and much nicer headlights, integrated turn signals in the mirrors, better quality interior trim bits. If you are not on an tight budget, the limited is easily worth it. But there is nothing wrong with a base or premium either. It's just false to say the limited doesn't offer much more.

    • @keiser255
      @keiser255 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thing the Premium is missing vs the Limited is Rear Cross-traffic monitoring, which I honestly thought I wouldn't care about, but it is very nice! If a car is flying up the road behind you as you're backing out, especially w/ obstacles close to the road, I've noticed it can 'see' way better than you can from where I'm guessing the sensor is on the back bumper. Works for kids on go-carts also, that might otherwise be difficult to see. Underrated safety feature.

    I picked the base for 29,500. I personally liked the two screens over the one, it can’t update so my firestick will always work on it, I know unpopular opinion. I was planning on wheels from day one and I didn’t want any of the beeping bs for safety. My only regrets are lack of heated seats, the side mirror defroster and no fog lights.

    • @dustinhoward2990
      @dustinhoward2990 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh and I wanted a key over the push start because I don’t like all the tech that will probably break and I want to be able to pop start if it’s dead and I’m stranded. I also don’t like how the ac controls are on a touch screen and the main reason I got the ten year warranty

    I have a 22 Base MT. I got it for about 27k during the crazy dealership stockpiles that were happening around the country earlier this spring. The split infotainment is unimpressive but you get used to it, I wanted fog lights so I added the OEM fog light kit myself for $375, and the ONLY thing I wish it had is remote start so I could warm it up without leaving the house (especially in the winter). A lot of the features you can get on other trims are nice, but they get pricy pretty fast. For the driving experience alone, I don't think you can beat the value of the base model (especially if you want to save some extra $ to do some mods).
    I think the only other consideration that would have made a difference for me would be if the eyesight/safety features had been available for MT at the time, and were only available on higher trims. In that case I probably would have opted for whichever trim got me into that whole system, because this latest round of eyesight/safety features are pretty awesome IMO.

      I've got the exact same setup in the WR blue. You can dramatically improve the sound quality of your stock system by going to Crutchfield and getting more efficient and higher quality speakers that fit in your car's stock enclosures. It'll cost you several hundred dollars and an afternoon - that's it.

    Given that all the trim levels have the same engine, the best performance will come from the Base, because it's the lightest car of the bunch. Many will choose to upgrade the 17" wheels to 18" or 19" and upgrade the Dunlop tires to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which are far better than the stock Dunlop tires. Add an Accessport and a pro tune and you're all set. You really don't need anything else (currently ~340HP at 20 PSI boost).

  • @Daniel-dj7fh

    Imo the only reason to look at higher trims is if they offer something you can't upgrade (easily) when time passes.

    I got the Premium in black silica (matches my wife's Ascent). I really like the large display and wanted the heated seats for the cold winters here. I would have opted down for 17"s because of all the potholes and rough roads in NW PA. Also needed the fogs- lost last car to deer. Also opted for the HK/Moonroof package. In summer it is nice to let all the heat out of the car with the sunroof, and it is a great vent the rest of the year. You cannot buy car stereos anymore (lost art!) so I wanted better audio and the sub. I also negotiated the STi shifter as part of the deal (installed) when I got in a stalemate with the sales manager. Good idea for anyone. You should get $2k right off the top of any trim. If you don't walk or bring up the website of a bigger dealer where they are advertising $2k off.
    I had really nice nav in my last 4 cars, but with the Noble bluetooth box, I have a beautiful Google Map on the huge portrait display that rivals any of those. I think $2k nav systems in cars are a useless expense. YMMV.

I've also got an '05 Legacy GT Limited and Japan had a rear-wiper option that we didn't get. I think about that all the time, haha - would be really useful!

    Have a 2023 WRX Premium. What I found amazing, is that Subaru released this car with the enormous screen, but then only gave full screen access for Apple, and not Android. You literally pay to get the experience of the base model if you have a Android device. Hoping they resolve this soon, as it's a very poor experience. Shame the Premium didn't get the blind spot detection, as that's my only gripe about it to be honest. (The sloppy shifter can be resolved.)

    • @HeavyMetalWRX

      I am most disappointed with blind spot not being on the premium. Tbh it should be on all models. My base 19k Jetta had it. However starting next year all the WRX are supposed to come with eyesight I think. So that's a plus I guess.

      @HeavyMetalWRX  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Tbh if you can get a Limited for under MSRP that's the best option. If you can't and delseds won't budge for price then get a premium. The TR is amazing if you have the budget for it though. As for color WRB is just absolutely classic and you can't go wrong. Besides that it's pretty subjective. I love all the colors for specific reasons. For me WRB and Ignition Red stand above the others haha.

    One thing you may have missed is the slight difference in turning radius. Base at 36.8 feet and the three others at 36.74 feet. My
    understanding is this is due to the premium, limited and GT all having the inverted front struts.

    • @icemantuck2638
      @icemantuck2638 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may have been the case with the previous gen, but Base VB uses part numbers 20310VC220 and 20310VC230 for front struts, same as Premium and Limited. Subaru def lists a slight radius difference though.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually still not good value. Most people that shop for a WRX are looking at the 30-35k price range. The average owner is mid 3ps with either 1 kid or 1 pet. 32k for a WRX that's great all year round with adaptability is really good. Then after warranty(If you care about it) you can spend about $1200 and get a nice bump I power. If your budget is 48k you might not even be looking at a WRX.

    • @ttis3701
      @ttis3701 ปีที่แล้ว

      @HeavyMetalWRX I beg to differ, F80 M3 is a great value for around the same price as a new GT Trim 2024 WRX + taxes. In fact, I traded in my 2015 STI, which i got brand new from subaru, for a 2018 F80 M3 CPO 1 owner, 11k miles + 4 year CPO BMW extended warranty for 52k from BMW, I negotiated it down from 55k.
      Even their service and sales dept is eons ahead of subaru. The sales manager even threw in a full body 3M PPF install after we had been chatting via text for a few weeks after i got the M3, as he checked in on me to see how i was enjoying the car, and he still texts me to this day!
      Definitely something subaru would never do nor care to do, especially being with subaru since 2015, they just don't care about the consumer or the experience.
      They gave me 28k equity on my STI trade in, i put down 5, financed 21k (taxes). Solid car, don't miss the subie one bit, I highly encourage anyone to look into an M3, especially having owned a STI for so long. Night and day difference.
