It's a seriously sad state of affairs when £20.5k is considered a cheap/no frills car these days. The fact most people lease cars these days seems to give manufacturers license to inflate prices to eye watering levels.

Fine as a second car but the larger battery version could be an only car for someone without a family. I think the current crop of smaller EVs are going to be interesting used buys in a few years when they won't be eye wateringly expensive. The eight year battery warranties take away a lot of the risk of a three year old car too.

At £15 per day I either have to replace it with an eye watering £40+k new EV SUV if I still want to drive inside the new bigger zone (where I live) or buy a 2nd car such as this for half the price. These figures make the 500 very attractive to Londoners.

I own a petrol Fiat 500 and I love it. I’ll definitely replace it with a new electric one but I have to admit to not really liking how they’ve redesigned the back - that said, I was really struck at home much better the whole car looks in white - I really wasn’t sold on the three glum colours of the rest of the range. A white one with all of the bigger battery and all the bells and whistles, with the addition of some cool vinyls, would be my perfect new car.

I have always liked the 500, I was lucky enough to own an early proper 500 (1968 model with the 499cc 2 cylinder petrol engine), it still has an appealing look even now though I don't think much of the headlight design, the lower range battery would be no good for me as I do a 74 mile round trip daily commute which is mostly motorway miles, in this area, the infrastructure just isn't good enough, having done some research, at present it's still cheaper to run my 2011 Smart diesel as I am unable to have a home chargepoint, I would have to have another vehicle to complete my working weeks journeys as I would only be able to charge up on my days off due to the only chargepoints being in a car park which closes at night, I work long unsociable hours and wouldn't be able to get to the car park during opening hours very often.
At present I am going to have to stick with my little Smart diesel until battery range on vehicles improves and prices become more affordable, admittedly battery ranges are improving, in so many reviews, it's assumed that drivers want range for doing longer journeys, in many cases this is true, but it's also needed for those of us who are unable to have a home chargepoint and where the infrastructure is also very poor, just as a side point, I have written to my local councils and MP on many occasions but have never received a response.
Thank you for your reviews, I enjoy watching this channel and have subscribed, although not many of the cars appeal to me personally, I am intrigued by the advances in battery technology having also briefly owned a Reva G Wiz many years ago.

I think they've missed a trick here. There are plenty of grumpy old gits like myself who would like the stripped-out interior, but still have a big battery. All the new satnav stereo stuff will go out of date (or even obsolete) very quickly, and I would rather be able to just install third party hardware that can be easily changed.

@@q3b26 Aye, but if you're simply after a no frills car, that's different. Plenty of us want a gorgeous car (which is not a Dacia) but without the annoying electronics and gadgetry that plagues modern motoring. I still drive a 1999 Saab because it's a nice balance of looks and comfort - and fitted with a newer stereo - provides enough modern convenience without getting in the way with annoying beeps and bongs, and warning messages. It's sublime. A lot of gadgetry in cars never gets used, and a lot of customers would be happy not to pay for annoying distractions.

Apart from the fact that if you did 12000 miles a year then the hybrid one would likely cost you at least £1200 in fuel, more likely £1500, whereas with cheap rate home charging it could cost around £150, so over the course of 5 years it pays for itself, especially when you add in lower servicing costs as well.

I cannot believe there's people that buys humongous 50k€ electric SUVs with a 300km top range, that defeats the need of a big car in the first place. Small cars are perfect in city commutes cos there's going to be a charging point somewhere were you can plug it in for the night and with what you save you can rent a car to go further if fancy strikes you. I just drove one today and was disappointed. The infotainment system is terrible (cluttered menu and counter-intuitive) and having buttons to select the gear is an idea you need to have a very peculiar mind to find useful. The indicator arm was mechanical and often remains in the active position after you complete the turn. The navigation was slow and fiddly.
Unless you’re a family of midgets or your passengers are pugs, the backseat is only for show.
It’s hard to see where the car ends (both ends). The lane assist was worse than driving with an anxious mother-in-law in the backseat.
The worst thing was the lack of mechanical door opening. To get out of the car, you press a button so make sure you NEVER run the battery to zero or you will need to break a window to escape.
The positives: Good acceleration and nice dashboard. The size is of course convenient but that’s common for all small cars. Two USB ports but the old USB2 standard instead of USB-C which is the new standard and a proper space for your phone. Good size cup holders and the glove compartment was decent for the car size. The seats were comfortably firm.
All in all I think this is a car that will appeal much more to women than to men. They may find its quirks more charming than utilitarian men.

well, this video is noot actual any more, because there is no "action" after 4/22. it is now called icon 22 and it is rather a cheap version of that new icon 22. it has the smaller battery, but a lot of icon equipment, so as the bigger screen, the dab+ radio and the uconnect5. and there are more options than before to choose from, for example the split back seat. if i had known that before i might have waited, because the old action was too poorly equipped. it is now a better alternative than before. the price has risen for about 1200€ in germany. an even better choice than before, because it is nearly as equipped as an icon, best choice now if the range is nor so important.

$20k pounds is $27.7k USD. Nearly $28k and it doesn't come with cruise control or heated seats? Seriously, Fiat, get your ish together. I am sure the wiring harnesses are identical for models with and without cruise. They can't possibly be saving more than a few bucks per car by not including either.

It takes me 12 seconds to charge my electric car. Six seconds to plug it in at night before I go to bed, and another six seconds to unplug it the morning when I get up. I usually do this every 8 to 9 days. Oh, I really miss standing in a puddle of spilt diesel, having to hold a filthy fuel nozzle in place until the car is full. I've not been near a petrol station for two years. I'm welling up at the memory.....

  • @ramiroini9504
    @ramiroini9504 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm sorry, but back to basics is the security equipment, power steering, air conditioning, and central locking. This is unnecessarily equiped with loads of stuff that just add price and could be solved including the screen with less apps. It's a more rational usage of resources and even a cost saving solution that is very easy to lower the final price. This care is definitely not worthy.

    • @patrickjr11

Sadly, a lot of the kit it comes with is mandated by the EU these days as standard safety equipment so it has to have it no matter what. Granted that adds to the price and does explain that new new cars will be more expensive then a car designed even 1-2 years ago. The Uk agreed to accept the EU standards as part of Brexit so it will be the same here too.
