Since I drive myself, I picked the EQS 580 (no need for AMG, enough power already and more range vs AMG), if you plan to be driven, I think the BMW is the the car to go for, much better seating for passengers. Style: I love the look of the EQ family, but the BMW is also something new and fresh, glad to see new cars don't look all the same anymore. Don't dream it, drive it!

Unpopular opinion right here, but as someone having considered both cars as my daily car, mainly for traveling to and from work, I like the EQS’ looks significantly better. I do understand the i7 looks more imposing, has more road presence, and looks more expensive. All of these are factors, that steered me away from i7. Just not what I like being perceived as. Now people might object: “one shouldn’t care what people think!”. Since this is about customers and employees, I have to disagree. It is important what they think of me. Lastly, I like that Mercedes went the hardcore EV approach, being fully aware that they’ll get sht for it. They make so much more use of the car being a BEV, with similar dimensions internally, for a significantly smaller car externally. Also, the EQS is significantly more efficient at high speeds, which is really important for me, who travels a lot on the German Autobahn. So, my choice is the EQS. Literally, as I am waiting for my 450+ to arrive. Doesn’t mean the i7 isn’t a great car, I just wanted to offer a different perspective.
As someone who's sat in both of these cars, I have to say that if i had the kind of money, I'd go for the bimmer. Not just for the statement part (but that also plays a big role to potential buyers), but overall comfort and feel of the interior Mercedes feels way cheaper inside than BMW with those screens and whole dash being a magnet, but that's not even the worst part: the rear seats are horrible. For a car that a lot of people will be chauffeured in, it sucks. The batteries make the floor so high that you don't have any underthigh support, and I couldn't imagine myself sitting through a long journey in them. BMW nailed the rear seats especially with that huge TV in the back.

I love the way it looks overall (also saw one in person), but the headlight part just screams bad design. Not even the grille; just that exact position/configuration of the split lights.

Would like to see Rory take a look at the Nio ET7 even though he has said he's not convinced by battery swapping. The legacy manufacturers seem to be producing cars that for the price just can't compete with these new Chinese EVs.
@@Featherface01 Funny, since the majority of spontaneously combust ING EVs have been Teslas which are American, and it's the Chinese BYD blade battery that is basically impervious to spontaneous combustion and Tesla's built in Germany are now using those batteries. Hello nice test, but if it comes to the back seat, you have messed up the specs a little bit and also compared apples with oranges as the Mercedes was not fully specked out if it comes to the seats. The leg room in the Mercedes is actually bigger and there is no long wheel base version available any more in the i7 as it comes standard with the long wheel base. The screen in the i7 is indeed one of a kind and definitely without competition.
The main problem with the Mercedes is that the seats are too low to the floor. It is much more comfortable in the BMW due to this and having much more headroom.
Some of the camera angles make the i7 appear to have staggered wheels. Anyone out there that can confirm?? My 2013 has a 2” stagger front to back and It was an awesome feature not all 7 series have.
9:42 The screen in the back opens up on 'The Grand Tour' a direct competitor to the latest iteration of Top Gear (one which Rory was on) and Rory states "Let's find something good".

IMO, the EQS even not up to luxury standards compare to the MB gas models - e.g. many reviews pointed out the back seats are not comfortable at all. So in this comparison, the i7 wins without a doubt….look at all those cool and innovative features!! 👏🏼

@mr.lassig3671 Even if that's the case, I'd never bet on Mercedes. Its engine is currently the least reliable engine in the world from the 2022 November statistics while BMW takes the 3rd spot after Toyota and Lexus, and that is why it's losing in the formula F1 cause their new hybrid system sucks. Although the new i7 might not come with a M, I'd rather settle for the current M750 xDrive or the hybrid M760e xDrive. It might not be as powerful as the Mercedes but I'd rather stick to BMW for the value of my money plus Mercedes is ridiculously expensive. I've seen lots of videos about high end electric cars that most of us can't afford, ive also seen lots of videos about family friendly electric SUVs and saloons etc but where's the fun cars for the future electric car owners, for the people who haven't yet got kids or don'twant kids, the cars for those of us who's kids are grown up but we haven't retired from driving for fun and aren't really concerned about how much boot space or leg room there is in the back. Seeing a lot of new electric cars but not much in the way of fun and excitement?
I’ll take the egg. I have an S class and I love Mercedes. I do like the look of the BMW, but you can beat the drive of the Benz. They both are beautiful cars.
I drove the EQS 580 and the BMW i7. BMW did the smart thing: make the car a FULL SIZED, uncompromised EV. Mercedes screwed up. The EQS doesn't have the road presence of the S-class. It isn't selling well at its inflated prices. Right now Mercedes will give you $10,000 off of EQ products just to sell them. I enjoyed the i7, even tho the big screen TV in the backseat is a TOTAL gimmick.
Good call, the Taycan absolutely belongs. The AMG 53 and BMW 60 models have a junior sporting ambience, so a non Turbo S Taycan would be a perfect foil.
When I'm going to buy my i7, the first thing will be to take it to the best body shop in the country and wack the FL g30 5 series headlights and grill on IMMEDIATELY!!!
I7 any day of the week. Looks mighty and imposing. Electric cars need to be just cars rather than the bar of soap the merc is. Saying they have to be built that way due to range is a cop out. You should not need to compromise
Great video, but… You compare the EQSAMG against the I seven, which is a performance Mercedes against the base model i7. BMW,( no m version yet) it would be better if you compared the EQS 580. Also, you use the range of the 580 or the 450+ an estimate 450 miles range on the Mercedes amg which is not correct. It’s closer to 300 miles.
The i7 wins by a mile. The job of being a flagship and being a good place to be just oozes from its surfacing and the great ride and handling compromise. The grille remains an issue, no doubt, and is totally colour and trim level dependent. Spend your time wisely in the configurator before ordering! That said, there’s nothing about the outside of the EQS that says luxury car, flagship, or even close to the job of the S class. The Tesla ModelS is a more elegant design than the EQS ( but is hopelessly outclassed by both of these for interior features and quality of appointments) I see the extra range advantage but the price of the bar of soap visuals isn’t S-Class appropriate.
I believe two items not reviewed but important for some are the ease of the infotainment center operation and the semi-autonomous driving capability. Add in the Heads Up Display. Also, rear seat height needs to be at least 14". We had an American car that was 11" high and it was effectively a two-seat sedan because it was so uncomfortable sitting back on our hips (and I'm only 5'7").
🤔 The BMW i7 model is best suited to dark colors (otherwise black), but the M-B EQS looks much better because the body lines are more aerodynamic!. 👍🏼👌🏼😉
Nothing attractive on the EQS aside aerodynamics, doesn’t actually mean a Tesla looks better than the i7, so does the EQS, and both Benz and Tesla are biggest money pits in the car market right now
Interesting that the EQS wins the 0-60 time but only if you spent another $9,000 on top of the extra $20,000 you spent just to buy the thing. Between the EQS looking like a performance Prius and the cost difference, the i7 is surely the way to go.
What is interesting is how "the more things change the more they stay the same", I remember when cars first came out with Tv/dvd players mounted on the center of the roof, then the screens were mounted on the headrests and now its back to the center roof mounted screen...only wider. My oh my. And now BMW's which were known as "the driver's car", the electric versions have now become rear passenger cars...Mercedes which were more oriented for the "passenger" car, the electric version is becoming driver oriented...what's happening?
I love the BMW the best! However, if I was to get the Mercedes Benz I'd just go for EQS, because I think the less expensive Mercedes long range EQS is better than the EQE. I do think the BMW looks way better in every way though.
As a mercedes lover i'll choose i7 for use the car with driver. I would buy eqs for personal car.(eqs is very comfortable car no one cant say its not comfortable)
I'd get the i7 because if I was rich enough to afford either I'd be in the back seat not the front. And I'd much rather be in the back of the Beemer. Bit academic, though.
@autotrader at 8:58 you says in the longer wheel bases you can recline more - There is only a long wheel base :))) to recline you need to sit on the passenger side ;)))

But the biggest problem i have with merc is i cannot understand why i have to go
EVERY Year to inspection. and the inspections are more expensive then by audi or bmw.
AMG's 53 models are not competitors for BMW'S M models.
@mr.lassig3671 you're actually wrong. BMW is about to release their M70 model from the M division. We will have to wait for a true comparison.
Is that i7 a Carbon Black or Black Sapphire?
The Lucid Air which has been out a year is the most aerodynamic production car at 0.19.
@8:53 ....the front seat shook from his push
Rear space in the Merc is really cramp and not spacy at all. Should have taken the efford to take a seat in the rear.
9:40 I see what you did there with "The Grand Tour"😉😏
What is the drag coefficient of the i7?
These prices are just getting out of hand for such limited design 😢
I prefer the look of the I7 way more imposing and classy. And the interior looks a lot more higher quality than the eqs
That was nice breakdown of the EQS and I7..A quick reminder on the BMW XM please..would like you to break that’s one too down
What do you guys think about the Taycan? Is it in this luxury category? Or too sporty?
I very much dislike where the big touch screens are going. If you damage one side the whole thing is practically done for.
Ahh this was great. Top notch as always Rory. This video made me so glad I got an i4 M50 though 😎
The Tesla ModelS is a more elegant design than the EQS ( but is hopelessly outclassed by both of these for interior features and quality of appointments)
I see the extra range advantage but the price of the bar of soap visuals isn’t S-Class appropriate.
🤔
The BMW i7 model is best suited to dark colors (otherwise black), but the M-B EQS looks much better because the body lines are more aerodynamic!.
👍🏼👌🏼😉
Nothing attractive on the EQS aside aerodynamics, doesn’t actually mean a Tesla looks better than the i7, so does the EQS, and both Benz and Tesla are biggest money pits in the car market right now
Isn't the i7 already an extended version from the start?
Lots of ❤️ from India 🇮🇳
I love the BMW the best! However, if I was to get the Mercedes Benz I'd just go for EQS, because I think the less expensive Mercedes long range EQS is better than the EQE. I do think the BMW looks way better in every way though.
As a mercedes lover i'll choose i7 for use the car with driver. I would buy eqs for personal car.(eqs is very comfortable car no one cant say its not comfortable)
If I remember corectly there is no short wheelbase version for this generation of the 7 series / i7
Great Video, thorough. Has to be the hundredth time I’ve heard the name Hans Zimmer in the last year
I'd get the i7 because if I was rich enough to afford either I'd be in the back seat not the front. And I'd much rather be in the back of the Beemer.
Bit academic, though.
My favourite one is BMW i 7 , technologically superior with ultimate rear seat comfort & drive pleasure....look is superior ❤
The Merc is delightful. What a car.
Great comparison video. I choose the BMW purely because of the looks.
@autotrader at 8:58 you says in the longer wheel bases you can recline more - There is only a long wheel base :))) to recline you need to sit on the passenger side ;)))
