This has added meaning right now, as John has just gone through life altering surgery for mouth cancer and has part of his jaw removed. No one knows whether he will ever sing again, so this brings us to tears at present. All of Australia is behind you John, we love you, you ARE the voice!!

It's not just John's vocals that are amazing when you see him live. His involvement with 'his' audience, his personal connection with everyone in the stadium etc is also one of the best I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few Australian and top international acts over the years. He makes you feel like he's invited you around to his house to watch him and a couple of mates have a jam session! Definitely 'one of' the top performers of all time.
The real amazing thing with his vocal ability is that even in his 70s, he still sings his big songs such as 'You're the Voice' in the same key as he did in his 30s.....

Nah, it’s “let’s work together to beat this!” for the absolute majority of people. We’ve done this before, you know. In the 50’s and 60’s there was compulsory vaccination for polio and tuberculosis. There were compulsory lung xrays in special Health Dept mobile vans on street corners for adults. There was no asking peission from parents. We were just lined up at school, walked to the Community centre and they did class after class, school after school, year after year, by the way. As a young adult I had those lung xrays for 2 years for tuberculosis before they were no longer needed. By doing this, working together for the good of everyone, we got rid of polio in Australia. We still have a special tuberculosis quarantine facility in Australia and a leprosy one for the rare cases that usually are started by people coming back in from overseas. Before WW2, a relative of mine, at age 3, was identified as a carrier of diptheria ( a horrific childhood disease where a membrane grew over the throat slowly suffocating the young children that it struck. In those days many families lost a child to this. This young 3 yr old was placed in a quarantine on her own for 3 yrs without seeing a member of her family. This is 2021, not the early or mid 20th Century. We have vaccines now. Grow up and do you bit!

I think it was a Stevie Wonder concert or Doobie Brothers (it was a long time ago) in Sydney very early 80's, John Farnham opened. Blew me away. I have to say his band was better than Stevie's. Personally the main act fell flat for me; that's saying something bc I was not a Farnham fan. Stevie commented in the papers that John Farnham is the best singer he had ever heard-words to the effect.

Hearing Mitch Tambo talk about how John and the band were so welcoming to him puts an exclamation mark on John's inclusiveness. Sad what cancer has done to Livvy's voice though.

Great video! I’m a Aussie and work as a professional viola player. I generally do symphonies/ballets/operas etc but I also freelance for all types of shows. A number of years ago, I got to play in a couple of John Farnham stadium shows(as part of a string quartet -augmenting the house band). Hands down, some of the best gigs I’ve ever done. He and his band are phenomenal! I’ve grown up with his legend but seeing Farnham live is something else. This video brings back lovely memories. Ps. My favorite part of show was mid-chorus, looking up to experience full band, backing singers, audience, John and 2 bagpipes players belting it out. I almost lost my mind!

I think it is the tune itself and the production that builds it from the start. Imagine 20-30 thousand people all singing this at once....thats what he does with this song in a stadium. I've only just discovered your channel, and I gotta say how happy I am that you discovered Whispering Jack. An absolute solid gold 100 carat superstar of Australian music, there is nothing that John cannot do. John had a massive career during the 60s and 70s, but by the 80's and the end of his brief stint as lead singer of Little River Band, his star had lost it's shine, and he was considered a bit of a relic and a joke. That is, until he recorded "You're the Voice" and created Australian history.
The album this song is from, "Whispering Jack" was so successful, that one in every four Australian households had a copy of the album. My household had 2 copies on cassette - one in the house, and one in Mum and Dad's car.
Fun fact - in the film clip you originally began to watch, you see a couple arguing in their kitchen. The husband is played by Derryn Hinch, who is a well known shock jock here, but more importantly the wife is played by his then real-life wife and future two time Oscar nominee Jackie Weaver!
