    Help is a Beatles song.
    One thing that nobody mentions about John is his amazing mic discipline. He never has it smashed into his gob, because he knows how to project, and he knows how to move it away so as to keep from overpowering the sound system when he belts. He's especially careful about it when singing with less powerful voices. Master of his game!

    Andy warlow was lead in the phantom of the opera in Australia and is one of our best musical stage singers .the song they were playing around with at the end is Sadie the cleaning lady John's first Australian hit , check it out its fun . My all-time favourite song from John was when he was with The Little River Band its called COOL CHANGE and is beautiful it was also sung by the original band singer and was equally as good please check it out you won't be disappointed .

    Anthony Warlow is one of the greatest Theatrical/Stage Musical Singers of all time, and in my honest opinion, the GREATEST vocalist to perform lead as Phantom of the Opera!

  • @JoelWende
    @JoelWende 3 ปีที่แล้ว +96

    Some context. Anthony Warlow is a fantastic opera singer. He also does swing and musical stuff. At the time Anthony was recovering from multiple cancer treatments so probably wasn't up to the opera stuff. This was from a televised concert where the two of them and Olivia Newton-John (from Grease) played together. They all did solo stuff and then various bits and pieces together.
    The stuff about 'Sadie the cleaning lady' at the end of the video refers to John's first hit called 'Sadie, the cleaning lady'...and there's a long running joke at John's live shows that he hates the song, and has to be convinced and bullied into singing it (he doesn't really and it's all a joke).

    • @TheBrownlj
      @TheBrownlj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I was actually at this concert. Anthony had at this stage already recovered from his treatments and could definately if he wished sing opera however this concert was not the place for songs like that.

    Aussie here. I was lucky enough to see John live 17 times. I love him to bits. One of the best compliments about John Farnham that I ever heard from another artist, was from Freddie Mercury (lead singer of Queen), who said in an interview that John Farnham was the most technically perfect Male voice he'd ever heard. Coming from Freddie Mercury, that's gospel

So glad you have discovered John's talent, he is absolutely amazing. John has been a major feature in 5 generations of my family, and the exact same for most other Aussie families across Australia. I was (and remain) obsessed with John Farnham and Anthony Warlow's version of ''Granada''. This is a song which really shows off their vocal chops. Anthony is a trained opera singer and John Farnham really steps up his game to meet every vocal challenge that Anthony throws his way. In addition to this, Anthony sustains a note so long he manages to walk around the stage THREE times. The breath control is stunning. There is a video of their performance on TH-cam uploaded under the title ''Anthony Warlow elevates us to 'high art'''. 10/10 recommend to have your mind blown + they are a great laugh together on stage.

John Lennon once said that this was the way he would have liked the original version to be, but it finished up more an upbeat version. As a proud Aussie, I absolutely adore your reactions to our legends in music. John Farnham is one of the best. I love your reactions watching John and Jimmy Barnes. I'll have to watch your earlier vids to see if you've already reacted to Guy Sebastian too.

    Anthony Warlow is an Australian opera/musical theatre star. He played Phantom until a throat cancer diagnosis. In this tour, called "The Main Event", c1999, which also included Olivia Newton-John (Grease, opposite John Tavolta), he was in recovery, hence the shaved head. Just after this clip ended, they went on to sing a challenging song called "Grenada" - worth a watch to hear JF doing something different!
    "Sadie, the Cleaning Lady", which Anthony Warlow alludes to, was John Farnham's first hit single - a "pop" number which he has never lived down! He was eighteen!

    His very first song was Sadie.
    That will give you context to the ending of this.
    Anthony is a Broadway entertainer.
    The two Aussie boys teamed up with Olivia Newton John.
    Another brilliant Aussie
    This was such a brilliant concert. I was lucky enough to be there back in the day.
    What talent we have.

    “That’s Life” that Anthony Warlow sang is a Sinatra song I think. “Bad Habits” was written and sung by another Aussie, Billy Fields.
    I also vote for John with Olivia N-J from the Main Event. Awesome.
    Also remember the US has what? 330 million people? Oz has 25 million. We go pretty well for talent per capita.

    Two Australian Icons. This concert was Labled the Main Event and Olivia Newton-John was part of it. They all did solo songs of their own, but also sang together. This particular song is called Help, originally by the Beatles but John’s cover was Epic! After this they followed with Granada. Anthony the Opera singer had John singing opera! I urge you to listen to it. Their voices together are amazing, and they were having a lot of fun with it. I went to this concert and it was one of the best I’ve ever been to.

    Sadie (The Cleaning Lady) was the 1st hit song John (Johnny as he was then) Farnham had in around 1968. The audiences at his Concert's always yell out to him to sing it. His usual reply is Fair Dinkum, Poor Sadie's retired. She's Sadie the Grandmother at home watching TV, now.

    Basically John is and will always be, an entertainer, not 'just' a singer. Nothing wrong with just singing, but thats why many love John so much, hes a complete package and you never know what youll get. Hes collabrorated with many performers across many genres and is just so adaptable. Laughs at himself too which makes him so real. I do feel for him whenever Sadie is brought up time and time again, but then again everyone has a past and started somewhere.
