From North Dakota just got back from a 10 day trip to Anchorage with my Wife As far as conveniences in Anchorage there is way way more to do and see in anchorage than any city in my state. I would even say Wasilla has more to see and do than any cities in ND. Our biggest city is Fargo and it basically has a nice mall and a Walmart, way way more in Anchorage. One thing I found odd about Anchorage and the Mat su valley was how much warmer it felt then Minot North Dakota where I am from, I assumed it's alsaka amd it's further north so it's colder but There is basically zero wind in Anchorage and the mat su where as the whole state of ND is basically a wind funnel so 10 degrees in Anchorage is 10 degrees which isn't bad but 10 degrees in ND is usually like -15 or -20 once you factor the wind. I remember getting off the plane when I got back home yesterday and thinking holy crap it's way warmer in Anchorage lol.
I liked the Matsu valley and Seward. I enjoyed the southern half of Anchorage I didn't really like the Northern half of Anchorage it just had a different vibe and I wouldn't feel safe letting my wife walk alone at night in North Anchorage. South Anchorage felt much more safe and welcoming. My wife and I are still considering moving up to Alsaka but want to plan a summer trip to see some more of the Kenai peninsula and up to Fairbanks. I like a much more rural setting, Anchorage is too big city for me even Wasilla and Palmer felt a little cramped for me. My wife still wants to live close to a good sized town for the Amenities and convenience though. Trying to find and area that is a good compromise. She lived on the Air base in Achorage with her parents for a few years when she was a kid so has a bit of an attachment to Anchorage but like I said it's too big city for me. I'm looking to check out Soldotna and homer next summer

Right on! Let me know when you're checking it out. I've got great contacts in both those markets.

I live near Sacramento and I don't think Anchorage's urban issues could be worse than there. Probably seem fairly normal to me! Just stumbled upon your channel and watched a few videos. Interesting info!

It's all about perspective! If you were here you might wonder what everyone is talking about.

I am a 16 (almost 17) year old who wants to move to Alaska to find a much more simple and comfortable place to live. For the past few years of my life I have been battling depression and have thought of doing terrible things to myself. Recently I’ve been sort of longing to put myself in a situation where I can be comfortable with life. I believe that if I put myself in a more natural environment I can be more happy with myself and appreciate this world more. I’ve been looking into what I’m supposed to expect with Alaska and I’m willing to take on any challenges it throws my way when it comes to it.
But I do struggle on where exactly in Alaska I should go to, any suggestions?

Can you do the same type of video for the Kenai Peninsula?

No you were right the first time, the "therapist" just want money 🤑 all they see is green. Here is how to actually beat seasonal depression, take vitamin supplements, exercise indoors until you are a sweaty at least three times a weak, stop shoving garbage into your face hole, talk to people who you care about and who care about you, use fancy lightbulbs, save the money you would have payed for a therapist and spend it on a short trip.

My husband and I used to live in Alaska. We watch your channel for updates because it’s been many years since we lived there. You have one prevailing theme in all your videos…it’s all negative. I get your angle. You’re just being real. But it almost feels like you want no one moving to Alaska because it’s all about dark sides of cities and crimes and drugs and maybe you could pepper all the “realism” with the positives of moving to Alaska. Just my two cents.

He’s being real so people don’t think it’s a wonderland and get there and realize it’s just as bad or good as any other state. He’s not being negative he is being realistic. People need to know!

He has plenty of videos on Alaska and being positive. Go listen to his podcast! He does a great job of showing both negative and positives, which is what people need in order to decide if moving to Alaska is right for them.

I'm sorry it comes across that way. My intention is to make it as balanced as possible so everyone knows what they're getting before they arrive.
