This was very informative and others will know what to do which is good. You went way beyond what others have said in the past. A person grows when they seek to enhance their life and thought process, it opens up the possibility of what one can accomplish. Blessings.

Alcohol and depression don’t mix well. Alaska is a beautiful place but it can be very lonely and harsh in the winter months

Excellent video! Anyone thinking about moving to Alaska needs to watch this and be aware of this reality and have a plan to handle the mental challenges of living there. Jamin, you presented solid, helpful information in a calm, friendly manner. Very well done! There are aspects of living in Alaska that appear to be so unique (from other states in the US) that until you are living there, a person just has no idea of what it is like. I am an outsider but having had family that lived in Alaska for 40 years, I've heard some stories. Thank you, Jamin! I hope TH-cam let's this video stay up because it is important and useful information with no sensationalizing.

Thank you for this video! Moved up to AK in May of 23 and I struggled with mental health before moving here with my family. While most videos about Alaska subject on moving tips wildlife and the weather. Not a lot is talked about on the cons. Depression and anxiety are huge. For me personally the swing in sunlight is hard to understand unless you’ve lived it. From 4 hours of sunlight in the winter to almost 24 in the summer can sure work on a guy. I feel like I didn’t sleep until fall and then after getting 3 feet of snow in 4 days last November was overwhelming. Secondly the isolation is inconceivable until it’s been experienced. It almost like you feel like you live on an island sometimes. Thirdly to see a therapist up here is almost impossible. Some have up to a 6-12 month wait to be evaluated. Lastly as one of my coworkers said. This place wouldn’t be so bad if we got maybe 60 days of more sunshine. Just my two cents.

One of the strongest reasons men complete suicide at a significantly higher rate is that men, typically, choose very sudden, very lethal methods. This is in contrast to women who, typically, choose slower, less violent methods. Because of this, there is generally no time to intervene with men, but because of the methods women choose, there is more time for a friend to find them or for the person to have second thoughts and act to save themselves.
