    Best video comparison I’ve seen yet on all 3 different motors in one solid video .. i bought a 2018 3.0 diesel king ranch and simply love it , I was concern at first about the low horsepower , wish it had at least 300 horses but , you’ll said it the difference between gas power and diesel power .. thanks guys for this video , 🤝🏽🤝🏽🤝🏽

    “No new technology here, been around forever” is not true about the 5.0. In 2011, it was the first dual overhead cam (independent intake and exhaust cams on each bank), 32 valve v8 in an f150. Here in 2018, the 5.0 gained supplemental direct injection along with the port injection, while 11-17 5.0’s only had port injection. It was also bored out in 2018 going from 302 to 307 c.i.d.

      Michael Godsey just traded my ‘15 eco on a 5.0.. that eco was problematic. Some valve on the fuel tank at 34k, Oil pan gasket at 38k, turbo at 46k .. our work truck is a ‘14 5.0 and it’s at 128k no issues other than a battery, brakes and tires .. yes the eco is very strong and smooth but I just don’t trust them for the long haul .. cheers 🍻

      Ecoboost equals turbo. Ever wonder why the 5.0 doesn't have a turbo?? And ever wonder what if it had a turbo? heck what about a supercharger! It would blow the v6 away!

    I have a Blue Ox distribution anti sway hitch to lend you if you are willing to do this exact same test with 7500 lbs towed.
    Need it back of course, did my research before buying. It's a top of the line weight and anti sway hitch. Setup correctly, the rig feels like you are riding on rails.
    I have an F-150 V8 towing dry weight of 6700 lbs. Would really like to see how the new diesel with 10 speed compares to my V8 as I'm faced with a choice of either putting in a tuner and air intake for 10% more hp/torque or upgrading.
    Thank you.

    Basically the same fuel cost per mile with the EcoBoost and PowerStroke, but the PowerStroke is more expensive to own and buy. The 2.7 EcoBoost would be an even better competitor for the PowerStroke.

  • @jeffw6894

    So what are we talking here in regards to purchase price for these engines? $1500 for the 5.0, $2500 for the 3.5 Eco, and $7500 for the Baby Powerstroke?
    If I was occasionally towing I'd stick with the V8, more often would benefit from the Ecoboost. Anything more, for the money I'd step up to the Super Duty and call it a day.

    They are engines,…not motors. Motors are electric. Engines are internal combustion that require fuel. I’d take diesel power over the 3.5 eco any day. I had a ‘12 Eco and it sucked gas like crazy while pulling my 23 foot bow rider. And never stayed in overdrive even on level roads. My tow vehicle now is a ‘15 F250, 6.7. Now THAT!…is a towing machine.

  • @jnk26
    @jnk26 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    "Diesel hp"? What is that supposed to mean? The hp rating is a facade. It's just a rating of how fast the work gets done. NOT HOW MUCH WORK GETS DONE!!!! If you break down the hp ratings of the different engines you will see where the capability lies.
    5.0 395hp@5750 = 360lbft.
    3.5 375hp@5000 = 393lbft.
    3.0 250hp@3250 = 404lbft. Eventhough the diesel has the lowest hp it has the most torque at rated hp because the speed is slower. Same example for the HO 6.7L cummins with 385hp@2800=722lbft vs ford 6.2 V8 385hp@5750=351lbft. Theoretically they "can" do the same work through gearing, at the cost of reliability, durability, and fuel economy. Also who wants to listen to a truck scream at 5750rpm for any amount of time. The reason that diesel was so good at towing is the peak torque is at 1750rpm so it can peak all the time. That same applies for the EcoBoost vs the 5.0. There is more leverage(torque) at a more useful rpm(peak is 3500rpm)but it has more than 420lbft at 2500rpm. Where as the 5.0 doesnt cross the 400lbft until 4500rpm, but the torque available torque at 2500rpm is less than 250lbft. That's a huge difference for out of the hole pull and more importantly my sanity, and wallet on long steep grades lol

    Please tell me how the 5.0 is tried and true old school when it’s got every bit of technology the ecoboost does , which by the way the 3.5 has been around longer in non turbo form and the same amount of time in turbo form as the 5.0 . Your statements have ppl thinking the 5.0 is in some way related the the 5.0 that was in the mustangs and f150s in the 90s and I don’t think it even shares a nut or bolt with that engine .its no less related to the old school 5.0 as the ecoboost is . You need to factor in maintenance , DEF fluid and repairs with the diesel before making the call. The diesel may pull well on your test with only 5000 lbs , with heavier trailers on hills it falls way behind the 5.0 and a mile behind the ecoboost. I still feel for maximum towing and performance you can’t beat the 2.7 or 3.5 ecoboost.

    • @kingdaniel3519
      @kingdaniel3519 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tony, while they share many parts, they aren't the same. The heads, cams, intake, and any other number of parts are different. They're the same "family" of engine, but the 5.0 in the F150 isn't the same 5.0 in the mustang. If you had spent more than 5 seconds to look them up, you'd have known that.

    Your basis for judging the towing performance on the trucks gear position is irrelevant. For each engine, the transmission program mapping is different. The transmission program is designed to keep the rpms in the torque peak depending on the engine type. Of course with the 5.0 the transmission will want to pull in 5th gear, it's peaky torque curve requires the high rpms. The Diesel is programmed to shift into every high gear possible because, 1- it doesn't rev high and 2-its flat torque curve starts at 1300rpms 3-programmed for fuel economy no matter what it will use 10th gear every single chance it gets.... the 3.5EB program is in between..... your judgment using fuel efficiency however is a good basis point....
    Really, this review did not tell the audience much than what is already known about fuel efficiency when towing.
    Also another point, I found the presenter very annoying as he couldn't stay put in one place while standing, seems like he had too much coffee.... it was really distracting in your video.

    Only 5k? Damn, I hope they didn't struggle. I've seen front wheel drive SUVs rated for that. I tow 9K+ 5th wheel all over the US with no problem, but the fuel mileage is worse than pulling the same trailer with my wife's 5.0. 9.5mpg versus 10.5 mpg. That is opposite of your little "test".

Just got back from a 800 mile trip through the Smokies pulling a 32' Jayco (7400 lbs) and was EXTREMELY impressed with the power. Have NO idea what truck you are driving because it can't possibly be the 3.5L that I have...NO shortage of power on takeoff AND on hills! I was out-accelerating passenger cars. Yes, gas mileage suffers when towing (hope that's not a shock to anybody). I averaged 8 mpg on the trip home at about 70-75 mph.

Honestly, I can't figure out why all the hate for this awesome engine, I'm on my second one, (1st a 2011, and now the 2018) and both of them have been spectacular trucks. Maybe all the hate comes from little punks working at McDonald's that realise they'll never be able to afford one? Idk.
