Why wasn't the Silverado in the 28,500 lb tow test? I realize that it's not "rated" to tow 30k but it would have been interesting to see how it would have compared to the "rated" trucks. I mean in the 2017 test the Silverado was at it's max tow capacity and bested the other two, I'm just saying. ✌✌
Good thing you guys don't have to live with air ride for any length of time. In full size SUV's and trucks, it's never been long term reliable. I'd be willing to bet that it's going to be the Achilles heel of that truck in the long term.
Own a F150 and dearly love it, but honestly there ain’t a bad truck in the bunch! The GMC is the looker, the RAM best interior a vehicle, big bad sounding HEMI and the Ford just a good all around truck to be basically the same since 2015. My advice get your best deal and enjoy anyone of 3! Congratulations RAM folks.
You sir are correct. I'm a gm guy and this was very fair review. We have our loyalties but we can be civil and appreciate other trucks , why? Because they are trucks!
But you’re talking about the American brands, right? Since the Tundra is 10 years old, and the Nissan Titan is worse than the Tundra, even though it’s 2 years old.
Right on, Popoy and Bryan. I also bought 2015 F150 and love it. But I ain't never seen a truck I don't like. Almost bought Chevy, but same dealer as Ram, and they are just not dealers I like. Ford dealer is great. So in my case, the dealer made the difference in brand I chose. In my small town, same old boy owns every dealership except Nissan and Ford! ALL of them.
This must have been a solid week of work to shoot and edit this with 4-5 people. HUGE investment by TFL, but exactly what sets you guys apart. It’s Halo work, it won’t pay bills from ad revenue, but it makes your power base trust and love you. NICE JOB GUYS AND GALS!!
I was going to say these videos take a lot of work and man hours...ok fine and woman hours to shoot, edit, and upload....TFL has some great information out there on vehicles regardless what brand.
Paul Rodrigues yea good callout, noticed that too, maybe editing backed up on other high profile “holiday ad revenue click friendly” videos? It’s a shame that stuff like this doesn’t drive traffic like flashier stuff but I get it. Just glad TFL is willing to invest in these.
Got a 2019 ram with the tow package and the 3.92 rear end based partially on this video. I haven't been disappointed. It's my first hemi, but it wont be my last. I'm a ram convert.
Good luck you will be seeing the shop a lot I have a friend that worked on these trucks & that can’t even surpass 60k miles without either transmission issues or some time electrical issues
don’t think the interiors of a ram limited should be compared to a lower trim level of a ford lariat or a gmc slt. should be ford limited and denali gmc
The interior of a regular big horn or night edition is still better then the higher trim options of Ford and Chevy. People need to stop being brand biased and realize Ram is the best all around truck right now.
@@sevnlight6313 I will always buy something that is 2-3 years old to save on the large depreciation hit. My truck is 14 years old, probably go another 10 years before I buy something else.
@@BrianNC81 I use to buy trucks that were 2 to 3 years old. I had too many bad experiences. Other people will never take care of a truck the way you will. Most of those used ones are fleet trucks, that's even worse. I would suggest buy it new and keep it forever. Or until the "wheels fall off." The smell the feeling of being the first owner and ordering it exactly the way you want it. Is just a huge treat in this life. One of the few pleasures in life.
@@sevnlight6313 We bought my wife's 4runner new with 50% down and the rest on a 3 year loan. Only reason is because they hold their value extremely well and difference in cost was minimal between new and used. I really dislike having debt so I'm more likely to buy what I can afford to purchase with cash. My 05 Duramax had 30k miles when I bought it used. Been a great truck and still runs like new.
The really sad thing is that GM fans made such a big deal over the LS7 with it's titanium valves and rods with it's 7k rpm redline line. When the 392 Hemi makes more power per cubic inch without needing to rev that high.
JerseyMikeP screaming revs is just plain hard on engines no matter what they are. You can build them with special whatever but later on you’ll pay a price for all that high rpms.
While i really like watching the ike tests, im disappointed to see the ford in last place, when it jerked the trailer up the mountain with much less effort than those screaming v8’s. The other two do have nice interior cabins, but is this a tow test or a beauty pageant?
You could tell they were in the tank for the RAM from the get go. Tests are not scientific. Their opinions leak in there very heavily. Video should be called the truck we like best.
It's so funny how people get mad because there brand of truck didn't come in first place so they have to make excuses, me personally I don't care what truck comes in first, second or third, I will still buy the truck that I like best
9 times out of 10 it will be a GM guy bitching about something. It seems like the Ford and Dodge crowd can be mature about a friendly competition, but the GM pansies are just BITTER! They're that way at the race track too....shit gets old.
@@208SledHead All 3 brand loyalists are crybabies, neither one is worse than the other! I watch all these vids regularly involving Fords, Chryslers and GM. I don’t quite understand the results. This was presented as a difficult hill climb test. The GM and Ram were screaming up the hill, the Ram shifting up and down continuously. The GM was tickling the redline the whole way. The Ford was humming along, turning 3,000RPM most of the way in the same gear. The Ford was quickest to the top by quite a distance, without even struggling. Still with all of this, the Ford is last?? I like your videos, but this one made no sense.
@@dwayneelders9523 yeah and not only that but the Ford had v6 going up against two V8 I mean come on guys if it's going to be a pretty test then that's fine but don't try to take anything from one or the other truck I mean in my opinion all 3 are good trucks but please don't rig the test result it's just poor sportsman ship
How is the GOLD HITCH AWARD won by interior features and not towing capability? Suggestion: give a conversion factor for price- that way you can compare the trucks and not the bells and whistles. If you have a $30k swing in price for options it should be reflected in the score. Also if you load according to the lowest payload or tow rating of the competitors, factor the percentage of total. If one truck is maxed out at 7k gvw and another at 10k, take the average of the class and reward the manufacturers for building an above average offering.
Ford was the best at towing, it was going uphill with so much ease, between 2500-3000 rpm, unbelievable. Ford is the only one that offers Pro Trailer backup assist (amazing feature). Ford has a history of reliability on its trucks. Air suspension? "Better mirrors"? No, thank you. I will buy a Ford.
Ford reliability. Seriously? How often have they had to completely redesign? 5.4 with the 3 valve, considered the worst engine ever? 6.0 so bad it was replaced in record time. Ecoboosts showing lots of problems already. Don't use reliable and Ford in the same conversation.
Raul Zagarduga I hope you are correct about these Ford trucks, because I would have never purchased a Ford product had I not needed a truck...keeping my fingers crossed.
I think the real question is... which of these trucks has the most cup holders? I require no less than 16. Don't ask why... It's to hold jars of mayonnaise. .
I'm confused, I thought this was a towing test, not overall test. I would suspect the all new 2019 trucks would beat a 2015 designed truck, especially when it comes to interior. but who actually was the best towing truck?
@@BUILTDIESELMAFIA Yes, they can use their subjective to skew the test any way they want it.....they often do. Ive seen many where the truck that did the best on the hill got dinged in the subjective.
@@BamaShinesDistillery BUILT DIESEL MAFIA This is an overall test of the truck, and it's towing attributes. It's not just who gets up the hill the fastest. @@bookooc5605 no one said rigged, they just say take the subjective out of it. It should be purely unbiased stats. Like dinging for the mirrors in this, you know as well as I that anyone who tows like that will order the towing mirrors.....idc who wins, just take opinion out of it.
@@BamaShinesDistillery I was thinking the same thing. who gets up the hill fastest, towing is most controlled/convenient, and best fuel economy. Sure those other attributes are fine. But, if i wanted a review, I wouldn't have clicked this video.
You guys at the fast lane truck do a great job and I always enjoy the videos! Thanks for that. I just want to add that in all honesty, all these trucks will do what they were built for. Hauling the heaviest loads is great entertainment but in reality, they are all pretty decent trucks that will do everyday chores. Not that many of us are going to haul three tons up the ike gauntlet and worry about holding 60mph lol. Thanks again for the great job though!
This should just be about towing results. I own a chevy, but you can not deny ford is the best puller. Otherwise, I would buy what ever one I got the best deal on. They are all nice.
I'm ok with the results but the main thing that NOBODY mentioned was the fact those V8's were SCREAMING all the way up the hill and it took the Ford until the last block to downshift, they had to be careful not to speed. Not surprised the far newer trucks won out on this one.
What he said ^ with turbos, it doesn't matter what your altitude is. They're programmed to make a certain amount of boost at full throttle, regardless of ambient air pressure.
General rule of thumb is that a turbo engine loses about .5% per 1000ft in elevation while a naturally aspirated engine loses about 3% for every 1000ft. So based in that, the ecoboost is losing about 20hp while the RAM and GMC are losing over 100hp. I grew up in Pennsylvania, moved to Colorado for 6 years, and moved back. I moved out to Colorado in an 08 V6 f150 and you can literally feel the power being lost. I bought a 14 ram while out there and moved back with it. Again you could feel the power being brought back while dropping in elevation. I lived at about 6800ft in colorado. While I was driving, I could tell a difference in my breathing so I looked at my GPS, snd I was at 4000ft still. It was enough of a difference in the air that I could tell I was breathing easier. I literally could do almost anything without being winded for about a month after I got back to near 400ft in Pennsylvania. My f150 did 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds in PA with a cold air intake and custom tune. In colorado it was about 11-12 seconds. And the ram went from about 7.5 to 5.9 seconds going from Colorado to PA. Thses videos only apply to about 5% if buyers since it only covers what people in colorado and maybe Alaska might encounter. The lower the elevation, the closer the test results would be. These videos are interesting but really don't apply to most who watch them.
vulcanman64 They are all around the same for reliability. I drive Chevy for my work, they are good, however that have their problems. I prefer Ford for towing and Ram For interior. Chevy beats the Ram in towing and payload, whereas Ford beats the both in payload. But to be fair, they are so close that you will be happy with either one of the 3.
@UgoMarsolais the 2 v8 trucks were running high rpm all the way up while the ford has greater torque at much lower rpm that's why they sound like they are working harder .
First mod I did to my 18 Power Wagon was to install rear air bags in cradles. I knew I was going to tow and haul a lot in it and there’s nothing better than being able to tow/haul at stock height. It’s the way the truck was designed to ride/handle best. I had bags in an 06 F150 as well. It makes a world of difference. For RAM to offer 4 corner air suspension in the 1500 is genius.
Here’s what I learned on these three trucks in regards to towing. The best part of the Ford is the Ecoboost motor which you can get in all trim levels. The Ram is it’s air ride suspension which I believe you can get in all trim levels for about $1,800. The GMC is the motor which you can only get in the top trim level. Which is why I drive an XLT Ford with the 3.5 Ecoboost.
@@zackthomas1944 Buying Turbos is cheap, labor is what gets you. Especially, when manufacturers are designing the layout in a way you have to remove the engine to get to the Turbo.
All depends who’s driving. They get as technical as they can but my 6.2 pulls just as good if not better then the Ford but I have the 8 speed auto and older body style. And it’s broke in. Not knocking the Ford because I like all three. Have a Durango with 5.7 and considered Ford when purchasing.
Huge Ford guy here, and I am very much ok with those results. The Ford is 4 years old and will probably be 5 years old before they replace it with a new model. Ya can’t stay on top forever. The other 2 ( especially in the Ram ) have a way better interior and the fit and finish is a lot better. So until Ford releases a New F150 these are the results you can expect to see.
Yeah, but i would like to see a "just the facts comparison" also, without the operators input, ie. speed, fuel eco, braking, ect. I feel like they do a good test .just hold back some info.
Did you know that Ford helped the Nazi’s in WW2 winning the Nazi Party’s Golden Eagle award for great service to Germany and was awarded by Adolf himself? Now FoMoCo funds the alt-left terrorist group Antifa. I just learned this a few months ago and will no longer support anti-American, Ford.
@@ChuckBeefOG hah, antifa. Ford supported hitler pre war where he was getting the hyperinflated Germany get on its feet and he saw that as a great thing. Doubt he saw the war or holocaust coming at all.
Exactly what I was thinking. Best towing truck of the test got last place? Worst towing truck got 1st? A turbo truck will always tow better at altitude. Closer to sea level, where I spend most of my time, the 6.2 kills the Ecoboost.
GM is last to me personally in interior and Ram is definitely first. The GM trucks really make you wonder what you pay for when you enter the high trim levels. 6.2L is a fantastic engine from GM but come on GM stop making the 6.2L a ghost in the lower trims. It would be very tempting to buy a trail boss with a 6.2L. Just make the damn 6.2L available in all trims already. TFL let’s get that 5.3L on the IKE. You know the engine that most GM owners will have in their truck.
@@JsGarage out of 30 half tons 1 will be a 6.2 rest will be 5.3 v8 or 4.3 v6. Most people opt for 6.0 litre and 3/4 ton Chev before they go 6.2. TFLT needs to wake up. They think the people watching are stupid.
Great job with this test guys, I really appreciate the real-word analysis topped with the subjective score comparison from each of you. This takes the work out of trying to compare these trucks by going out to each dealership and trying to learn what you can from test drives. Well done!
TFL is the best, grateful to have a channel like this out there providing this type of content to assist folks in picking a new truck. he fatal flaw in this test is that its cold outside which gives the Ford a level play field with its turbo engine. From first hand experience the Ford is a great truck but cannot tow and handle 100+ degree weather. Towing a 4 seater Can am maverick from Phoenix to Flagstaff on a 100 plus degree day and the Ford goes into restricted performance mode. Talking to folks that live here in the Arizona desert they say the same thing. Love the truck, great truck, dont try and tow on a hot day at altitude.
I’m a GM guy and I have to agree that they need to update that interior compared to ford and dodge especially. They’re all great trucks though so it boils down to personal preference.
One thing that they didn't point out but was obvious in the video, again, is that the GM and Dodge V8's had to constantly downshift and scream to redline to hold that 60MPH. The Ecoboost seemed to stay in the mid RPM's most of the time until they seemingly manipulated it to do that downshift right at the end to get the sound level test. LOL
Thats because the f150 has twin turbo's and the chevy and Ram are naturally aspirated and they are a mile above sea level meaning less o2 in the air ! Ofcourse its gonna stay in the lower rpm range !!
Really? What place did it come in? The ecoboost slaughtered the other trucks and the 8:00 minute benchmark was set by the ecoboost. The Ford lost because of something that has nothing to do with towing or work related. I like all 3 trucks. Its difficult because I want to see the actual mpg measured and not just go off of the computer.
Wanted an F-150; spent 4 hours negotiating and got nowhere. I didn't just walk away, I walked away feeling like I had been insulted. I'd been a Ford guy for decades, but what they wanted for what was admittedly a really nice, fully loaded truck still didn't make any damn sense when you look at what it really is. We tried a few different dealers, even tried the local Toyota dealers who were really nice folks, but we hit the Ram dealership (knew nothing about the new Rams until the night before) and as soon as we sat it one it was all over. It's not even close, but at the end of the day it is a truck and it costs money and it had to make sense. Not only was the Ram a nicer vehicle, but it was about $15K cheaper than the Ford. I will say that 3.5L ecoboost with that 10 speed is damn impressive, but there is something to be said for just going with a naturally aspirated motor vs something that has boost in it. Gas mileage sucks in both of them, but that Hemi does sound nice. It worked out in the end, but Ford would have had another sale if they didn't let me leave. I swear it seemed like every time the salesperson came back with an offer from the manager that they thought that I was an idiot....it was the same damn numbers every time, just moved around a bit. I buy a lot of cars and they didn't just lose one sale.
Good luck trying to find a RAM with the Air Suspension unless you order the Limited. Why dealers don't stock them with lower trim levels baffles me. I buy a truck to tow mostly , and don't want leather etc.
Having owned an 2016 Ram Rebel with the air ride I can say that, when it works right, it's nice. Key being works right. I loved the interior of the Rebel but I had may issues with this truck. I have had, and currently own, many F150's and loved all them. I hate that the score comes down to subjective. It was obvious that the older guy already had Rams. The F150 from what I saw, was quicker up the hill and seemed to not kick down as much. That's what I would be rating. I hate trucks that are always kicking in and out of gears, which is why I have an Ecoboost now instead of N/A. They were all nice trucks, but my personal experience would have put Ram on bottom.
Our 2018 RAM 2500 HD, 4 doors, 6.5 bed, and a 6.4 Hemi, 6-speed auto transmission and 4:10 rear end tows our 9500lbs travel trailer very well so far. We towed the trailer from the coast of NC to Asheboro NC and got 10-13mpg. and get 15-19 running around without the trailer. Any thoughts about this truck.
I can’t speak for the other trucks, but the Ford is supposed to have a weight distribution hitch for anything over 5,000 pounds. It’s written in the towing guide and owners manual. Edit: I looked at the other manufacturers and Ram recommends weight distribution over 5,000. Chevy recommends weight distribution over 7,000. I couldn’t find anything on the Nissan and the Toyota doesn’t require weight distribution for max towing.
Hahaha really? That’s sad. I loaded a guy this summer with 4 cubic yards of processed blast rock on a dump trailer on his Ram with coil springs with no equalizer. So his trailer was probably 3500# and the gravel was 10,000+ #. I wouldnt personal do that but it didnt even look to bad on that dodge.
Lol, I saw a guys in box tool chest crushing the side rails of his box because it was too heavy for the ford aluminum, funniest shit ever, i took many photos.
Just cause it went up the fastest doesn’t mean it’s a good towing truck. Stability is a huge factor, it the vehicle can’t handle the weight and is fighting to stay in its lane that’s simply not safe and frankly not acceptable from a major brand.
I don’t know if you were ship at the Chevrolet well. The rusting on the big three for pick up trucks are all equally in the toilet. I’ve seen 10 and 12-year-old Chevy Ford and Dawn trucks that have less rust than some that are only 4 1/2 to 5 years old. I think it’s a crying shame whether it’s the Chinese firm General Motors or Ford motor company or dodge they all have the ability to build them not to rust. Back in 1982 dodge had all of their trucks with galvanized undercarriage I had by 82 Dodge truck for almost 16 approaching 17 years that I drove that truck and it was rust free not even a blister on the bottom of the door sills. And I live in a state that uses 2 inches of salt for every quarter inch of snow. Just remember the auto manufacturers want these vehicles to totally rust out So before you worship General Motors or worship Ford or those of you that worship Chrysler just remember every one of them has taken measures not to protect the steel. Even one of the best automobiles built that had a 15 year track record of being the best four-door sedan the Toyota Camry. Even the quality control this car in the last 3 to 5 years has dropped drastically. Maybe we need some company that has not been formed yet To build a product the same price with maybe a few less gimmicks but one that will last. There’s absolutely no reason why an automobile cannot last 30 years. Mercedes-Benz did it with her 200 series diesel four-door sedan’s mini of them untouched had pushed 300 to 500,000 miles original engine and transmission’s. Even Mercedes Stop making cars of that extreme quality. It would be nice if someone would get back to building cars the best they could possibly be

The Ford should lose 25 points for the engine noise augmentation...and that’s coming from someone who has owned 3 F150’s and still has an ecoboost. Any truck that doesn’t allow permanent shutoff of the start/stop also loses points. I think a lot of guys would agree with me.
Auto start/stop is so useless. Come on Ford. Give us the permanent disable option, otherwise tuning shops will continue to make money while you threaten customers with voiding their warranties.
Love how the Ford whopped their arses up and down the hill but still came in last. The tests need to be more scientific. I want the data to tell the story, not opinions, as they can be bought(not saying they were in this case though).
Love your videos. I will say that the only part I don't agree with is the grade brake test. I think you should either use cruise control, or what I recommend, is to use manual shifting. If I am towing a load downhill in Colorado, (which I do every year in camping season), I will manually downshift on steep declines. I rarely use the brakes, unless engine rpms get too high. This would be a more real-world experience of how capable the gas vehicles are at handling the downhill portion of the Ike Gauntlet. If a driver is going to get into trouble, it is more likely to be when going downhill. If someone is traveling through any area like the "Gauntlet", then they should pay close attention to how well that vehicle holds on the downhill grades, and how to properly approach them. Watching Kent demonstrate proper downhill shifting would probably help educate the great following that you have.
Always like these reviews, thank you TFL - still going with my 3.5L Ford vs. the other two though. Re: I tow REGULARLY through the IKE tunnel. And the biggest thing I hate, is a truck that needs to stay at full throttle and push the engine and systems to the max to keep up. This video only substantiated this - 5000+RPM for both Dodge and Chevy to get up that hill. More specifically and probably more "real world" is the constant ebb and flow of the I-70 IKE pass. Almost always your coming to slow downs and having to get back up to speed on a regular weekend. I appreciate you guys doing this and probably scheduling this on a Tuesday at 10am when no one is on the road so you can showcase the trucks. But this is a MAJOR consideration and should be factored in. Having the F150 with that torque with turbos is huge in comparison in this regard. I routinely pass Chevy/Dodges, etc needing to rev WAY High to get their rig going again - meanwhile I am only at 3500 rpm (or less) and leaving them in the dust. This makes you less of a bottleneck to other drivers and in my opinion safer. Great review, but that would be my feedback.

Trucks are built to be rugged to handle work. They should not break the bank. I assume the average truck buyers purchase a middle of the road truck. Why not test each manufacturer's top selling truck? Would you still choose the same truck if you could only spend 45k?
I have nothing against turbo power and I love that engine, but if I have to wiggle up a mountain doing 60mph then I'm choosing a different truck. For me though at 9000lbs I'd feel more comfortable in a 2500...
This Ram got 4.7 mpg on the trip computer pulling 9100 lbs trailer here but it also got 4.7 mpg towing a 7000 lbs trailer on another Ike run earlier. I've owned two Ford F150 and really liked them, but after I got injured in the Navy I had to have a truck that would lower to help get in... I saw the Ram on commercial and decided to check it out and MAN was I surprised! I got the 2019 Limited and to tell everyone that will listen, this truck is Unbelievable! The ride is incredible. With my Ford Eco boost I had a lag getting off the line or trying to get out in traffic. This truck does not lag. The Ram gets about .5 MPG less than the Eco Boost. We have always been Ford people, but now I'm sold on THIS Ram. Will it be my last truck? I hope so, because these rides are very expensive.
I would think "squat" would be good. I like that actually. I thought the GMC had exhaust braking now as well. Totally prefer the GMC because it's the best V8 engine ever built (I own a 99 Ford...always been a Ford guy.) No way I would ever own a Dodge because of their axle disasters. GM wins hands down on that as well. Obviously no less than the entire War on Terror agrees with this assessment as well..
Was a Ford guy for years but I got a Ram this year because the prices on F-150s were insane and I gotta say, I wonder if I’m ever gonna go back. I love my Ram.
Nick Morpus i have one i can tell you don’t keep it more than 3 years because you’re gonna miss your ford.... also after 3 years nobody want a ram because we cant work with this car
Bull crap, my 08 hemi ram is still going strong after 10 years and 250k miles and it is pulling a trailer almost every day. Its had very few problems until 240k when I finally had to do a water pump and radiator. Probably the best truck I've ever owned .
Dustin Blair you have no choice to keep your fiat for a long time if you don’t want to loose to much money when you trading it... nobody give a lot money for a chrysler all the specialist telling us to take care after three years the reliability is not there
I am a big Ford fan but I gotta admit the F150 has grown long in the tooth, which is remarkable given that's only five years old. The competition in the half ton truck segment is red hot. I've never liked Chrysler products, much less Ram trucks but I gotta say, the new 1500 is an incredible looking truck inside and out. The press really seems to love it. Still not convinced it will be reliable, given FCA's record.
Just wait, when 90% of the people buying shit lose their rigs to the bank youll see the price of used rigs crash. Its hard to pay that $1000+ a month truck note when you lose your stimulus miney
Brendan McGrevy the anti sway only kicks in when actual dangerous trailer sway starts up. This was very little away. He was saying he just felt the sway more in the ford than the other two.
The Ford is the lightest truck with its All Aluminum Body Panels, and its engine is the lightest. While it's a Power House it does't help with its stability when loaded down.
I also have the GMC and Dodge at the top of my list. I think the GMC has a much better exterior styling with more body lines and a more aggressive look. If I had to pick one it would probably be the GMC but the Dodge is a close second....I wouldn’t even consider the ford
This isn’t a Toyota thing but an honest question... minus looks which truck would last the longest with least problems? For me, that’s the most important feature of any vehicle. I’ll worry about goodies afterwards.
My 08 Tundra had bad rear axle bearings, a bad water pump, and a bad front differential all well under 100k, Toyota's aren't as "heavy duty" and trouble free as people try to make them out to be. I've never had any of those problems in any of my vehicles with well over 100k in far harsher conditions than my Tundra was ever put in. Was not a fan of the Tundra with all those problems...and expensive problems at that.
Chevy by far will last the longest with the least problems. Toyota is close second, but you will hate to sell the chevy when you are done with it, and love to watch the Toyota go. Believe me, you can have a relationship with your truck.
All aluminum Ford with v8 Coyote 302 will out last them all with no question, especially if you live in the rust belt. The RAM and Chevy look nice but but who cares about all the fancy electronics and plush seats when the truck has reduced itself to a pile of rusted scrap in the corner of a salvage yard in 10-15 years
Question on the downhill test. If I recall you try to keep the speed below 60mph going downhill without applying the brakes. How does the truck know that you are trying to limit the speed? You are looking for transmission downshift on its own? How does the vehicle know what speed to hold at or below? I am Tundra owner and love it, even though you y'all are Tundra haters.
Three awesome trucks the RAM'S interior was in a league of it's own but the Ford was the quickest uphill I believe it should have received a higher score and should have a 2nd place finish 👍🔧
These trucks are so confusing anymore because the ram has a 3.92 and reved so much higher than the 6.2, yet it got way better mpg....that literally defies what the rpms and gear ratios say. I dont get it.
Difficult to understand why the big V8s did not provide better engine braking than the little V6. Given the 10 downhill braking score for all, I wonder if they were in Tow/Haul mode. And, a horse trailer without equalization/anti-sway hitch? The subjective scores overruled the objective measures in this episode so far as we viewers can tell without the scores being clearly revealed.
That dang 10 speed. I drive a ford with a 10 speed and my older 6 speed had WAY more pressure to hold it back. But I thought it was the v8 till now... great review!
It's all in the tuning. The tow/haul shifting and engine braking never works perfectly on any of them. If it did there would be no reason to have manually selectable gears. When you get to the hills put it in manual mode before you go up or down. Use D for the flats.😉
The Subjective scores did increase the margin a little in favor of the Ram but where the the Ford and GMC really lost was fuel mileage, at 1 point per 0.2 MPG, the almost 1 MPG better than the GMC and almost 1.5 better than the Ford is 5 and 7 points respectively. That more than anything else is why the Ram scored so much higher than the others, take that away and the score would be almost dead even as they all had the same number of brake applications and all were within the 5 second margin or error in the timed test.
I’m from Australia and f-250’s are upwards of $160,000 and ram 1500’s $100,000 and dam we get ripped off the finish is shocking. They are really slapped together how do they get away with it
Didn't you guys also notice that the ram was revving closer to 7000 RPM at the end and a Chevy at 6400 RPM and the ford at $4600rpm . In my opinion the Ford destroyed the competition put a $500 set of airbags it would have been toast for the other two competitors
@@jamespenner1412 James you can tell they are totally Dodge fan girls . Poor review also did you notice James how much the Chevy and the ram revving at. Lol put a set of airbags at $600 on a Ford F-150 it would wipe this s*** out of Ram and GMC
And we can totally tell you're a seriously biased Ford fan. What's the matter - do you have to knock the other trucks to try and justify your purchase or make you feel better about owning a now outdated vehicle? If you like it, then buy it...it really is just that simple.
dads 05 f150 had rust on one wheel well, gas tank edge and a little under one door panel. The frame was pretty good and only a haze of rust could be seen. Truck was parked outside and was taken offroad many times along with trips to Canada. Live in indiana where there's nothing but salt. Truck held up very well I thought.
3.8 MPG...........my 1996 Dodge Diesel would be getting around 15-16 with that load. And I paid $11,000......someone tell me how buying a new truck makes sense? Oh, and my truck has 174,000 miles and zero problems. And no smog required. So should I pay $60,000 for a new truck that will break down a lot and have fancy electronic crap in he dash? Lol
Bummed the GM 5.3 wasn't tested, it's what most buyers end up with. In Ford's tow package, they add capacity but the weight you can pull pushes the truck around, maybe lighter isn't better if you tow near max capacity a lot?
do the test over and over and see which truck goes back to the dealer first. :) you know when real things matter, its durability, longevity, and dependability
OMG - when Mr. Truck said, "I place this class of half-ton trucks..." I knew IMMEDIATELY what he was referring to! Too many years of 4-H animal judging. Thanks for shared memory.
Would be nice if they actually used the technology like downhill assist and the blind spot monitor that Ford has in the FX4. Wish I knew it was a Ram commercial before watching it.
I have an old 2006 Dodge Ram with the 5.7 engine and tow package rated at 10,600 lbs. I have towed a tandem trailer loaded with 6,000 lbs water a minimum of 850 miles a week for the last three years. Both engine and transmission still work flawlessly. Nuf said.
Thanks for the comparison, TFLTruck! Competition and choice is a good thing for everyone with a wallet to open. Keeps the auto makers innovating and giving us more bang for the buck as they try and out-do each other with every design generation. Ram wins this round, GM is showing vast improvements since the 08-13 era, and Ford will likely come out with another home run when they cycle over to their upcoming new design (all you insecure and upset Ford fans can relax). They're all great trucks and the margin of difference today is literally tiny compared to the differences between the brands ten-plus years ago, and tiny differences are exactly where we need all of them to be so we, as consumers, win.

Did the ford have max tow package becouse i thought thay came with tow mirrors and 373 rear end?

My advice get your best deal and enjoy anyone of 3! Congratulations RAM folks.
You sir are correct. I'm a gm guy and this was very fair review. We have our loyalties but we can be civil and appreciate other trucks , why? Because they are trucks!
But you’re talking about the American brands, right? Since the Tundra is 10 years old, and the Nissan Titan is worse than the Tundra, even though it’s 2 years old.
The outgoing GMC is a much better looking truck.
Right on, Popoy and Bryan. I also bought 2015 F150 and love it. But I ain't never seen a truck I don't like. Almost bought Chevy, but same dealer as Ram, and they are just not dealers I like.

Those are some good ideas, but it'll never happen. TFL isn't the same no nonsense reviewers they used to be.
Exactly- this is suppose to be a towing test, and the Ram won because of its interior? Best interior, I agree, best at towing, NOT!

I'm ok with the results but the main thing that NOBODY mentioned was the fact those V8's were SCREAMING all the way up the hill and it took the Ford until the last block to downshift, they had to be careful not to speed. Not surprised the far newer trucks won out on this one.
EcoBoost rules !!
I have a f250 lariat and love everything about it, inside and out
Both of the v8's were revving to the moon while the v6 ecoboost just loafed along not breaking a sweat. All 3 damn nice trucks.
The v6 had turbo at high altitude, that's kind of expected
What he said ^ with turbos, it doesn't matter what your altitude is. They're programmed to make a certain amount of boost at full throttle, regardless of ambient air pressure.
The v8s power band comes in at 4000 Rpms, where turbos come in around 1200 Rpms.
See: Torque curve. Also see: Forced Induction at high altitudes
I thought it was a towing test the Ford didnt even break a sweat the other two were ready to drop a valve at over 5 thousand rpm and it still lost.
You're right.somebody's getting paid.
Yeah that's what I thought to a little bias opinions if you ask me
Are you high? Ford sucks with poor reliability.

They are all around the same for reliability.
Everyone loves to shit on Ram saying you'll be in the shop all the time but my 2014 Ram has only needed a battery & tires in 7yrs.

You don't need air bags in the front total waste of money .
Gm needs to pull their head out and make more options available across all levels.
I Doesn't Matter What Trim Level You In The Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost V6 But You Can Get A 3.55 Axle Ratio & That Is A Maximum Tow Package.

I buy a lot of cars and they didn't just lose one sale.
ashasha3 , I had same experience in 2015, ford guy converted to Ram because the price and how you get treated, love hemi!
F150 didn’t go up the hill as forced
That’s a big plus and made it faster
If they were to rate only objectively and not subjectively......Ford still the best truck.
towing up the mountain at 5,400 rpm with the v8 or 3000 rpm with the turbo 6. The turbo 6 just breezes up. This is real world not some sea level test.
They are anti Ford
Guess you did not hear how he said the Ford kinda of wobbled and he to keep constant control of steering .
Turbo helps in mountain heights. I’m curious hoy coyote would do it.
You would put ram on the bottom because you’re not very intelligent
Our 2018 RAM 2500 HD, 4 doors, 6.5 bed, and a 6.4 Hemi, 6-speed auto transmission and 4:10 rear end tows our 9500lbs travel trailer very well so far. We towed the trailer from the coast of NC to Asheboro NC and got 10-13mpg. and get 15-19 running around without the trailer. Any thoughts about this truck.
Check their playlist. They ram this truck up the Ike against the other 2
King Daniel 🤣🤣🤣 keeeep talking you dumbass fanboi!
I have the 3.73 and it is awesome.
They should have known about that sh$t.
Lol, I saw a guys in box tool chest crushing the side rails of his box because it was too heavy for the ford aluminum, funniest shit ever, i took many photos.
Guess the fords a little too light huh?
I think its the same for all trucks past a certain trailer weight, at least in every other vehicle I've ever owned, the manual states this.
Just cause it went up the fastest doesn’t mean it’s a good towing truck. Stability is a huge factor, it the vehicle can’t handle the weight and is fighting to stay in its lane that’s simply not safe and frankly not acceptable from a major brand.
Love the Channel and the results of the Test! Pretty impressed with the Ford EcoBoost though despite being a huge Mopar fan.
They are all similar, however my experience is that the Doge will rust first, pre-rusted steel.
Just remember the auto manufacturers want these vehicles to totally rust out
So before you worship General Motors or worship Ford or those of you that worship Chrysler just remember every one of them has taken measures not to protect the steel. It would be nice if someone would get back to building cars the best they could possibly be
Yes, I see the under side of a lot of vehicles and Dodge products seem to be prone to rust faster.

Can't wait for the 2021 half-ton test! All of the trucks will be updated and more evenly matched!
IM PERPLEXED W FORD'S 3.5TT. I THOUGHT IT WAS BEST FOR TOWING ALSO. ECOBOOST NOT VERY ECONOMICAL. WORST MPG OUT OF 3 AT 3.3! THATS HORRIBLE. THE HEMI GOT THE BEST AT 4.7 MPG EVEN AT HIGHER RPM. IS THE FORD STILL WORTH IT?

Trucks are built to be rugged to handle work. They should not break the bank. I assume the average truck buyers purchase a middle of the road truck. Why not test each manufacturer's top selling truck? Would you still choose the same truck if you could only spend 45k?

This Ram got 4.7 mpg on the trip computer pulling 9100 lbs trailer here but it also got 4.7 mpg towing a 7000 lbs trailer on another Ike run earlier.

@Rick Johnston Guess that says something about the Ford doesn't it? The others didn't sway with the load
@@AB-coyote engine weight between the Ford 3.5 TT V-6 and the GM 6.2L V-8 is going to be about the same.

This isn’t a Toyota thing but an honest question... minus looks which truck would last the longest with least problems? For me, that’s the most important feature of any vehicle. I’ll worry about goodies afterwards.
Babbles gmc or ram!
The RAM and Chevy look nice but but who cares about all the fancy electronics and plush seats when the truck has reduced itself to a pile of rusted scrap in the corner of a salvage yard in 10-15 years
hojo70 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️
Question on the downhill test. If I recall you try to keep the speed below 60mph going downhill without applying the brakes. How does the truck know that you are trying to limit the speed? You are looking for transmission downshift on its own? How does the vehicle know what speed to hold at or below? I am Tundra owner and love it, even though you y'all are Tundra haters.
Love this test! For me, the most important test would be how many times the truck is in the shop for repairs over a 5 yr period.
Well, if you have a Dodge, the answer is Many!
Ford wouldn't make it pass 2,000 miles before it leaves you on the side of the road!

Really interested in comparing their new Diesels (?)...power, mileage, towing, reliability, etc
The RAM was at 4.7mpg the whole way? I don't think it was reset at the standard point. At the end of the day, all these trucks would do great
These trucks are so confusing anymore because the ram has a 3.92 and reved so much higher than the 6.2, yet it got way better mpg....that literally defies what the rpms and gear ratios say. I dont get it.
Towing contest:
TFL= I like the interior, so I gave it the most points.
Hysterical.
Surprised me too. They ran a 2016 F150 5.0 (six speed trans) through the "gauntlet" and it required only three brake applications.
If the trailer has electric brakes, did each truck have the exact same voltage output and at the exact same time relative to the truck brakes?
I’m from Australia and f-250’s are upwards of $160,000 and ram 1500’s $100,000 and dam we get ripped off the finish is shocking. They are really slapped together how do they get away with it
