MIND BLOWING... The NEW $600 Garmin R10 Approach Golf Simulator...

- I test the new Garmin Approach R10 launch monitor, the first Ever indoor outdoor golf simulator from Garmin... and as a budget launch monitor just how good is it? in this video I test out the new Gamin R10 Simulator and see just how good it is... is it the best budget golf simulator? the best cheap golf launch monitor? How can this device help you play better golf? maybe it can get you hitting longer drives than ever before and beating all your friends? and just how good value is it for £529? Let's do it... and let's do it now!
This Garmin would be great to have even though the numbers may not be quite as accurate as a device 10 times the cost. It would have been interesting to see your launch monitor numbers as a comparison.
I feel like it's accurate and he's just having a tough time admitting his real distances XD
Lmao I was thinking the same thing
@@dustink2323 the fact that it is a radar unit would account for that. Otherwise indoors it is just looking up values based on some measured data
@@Brandon-youtube The radar unit may be accounting correctly for the lower launch angle. My understanding is that the spin numbers are way off (very high) with clubs that launch lower. The unit isn't reading the spin, therefore; it is causing the total yardage to be significantly off.
🤣
No the yardages are consistently short , it's like the new full swing KIT launch monitor which is 4k not $600 . They simply are just not very good unfortunately , if you are looking for accuracy which I think everyone should be then get a Bushnell launch pro ($2999.99) it's alot more obviously but zero comparison in accuracy
"R10" - Great tool at an affordable price. Would make range time so much more productive for a little more than the price of a new driver. I love it.
Don’t know about the distances in the range session, but your 171 5 iron approach when you played the course had a 10% power reduction applied to simulate the rough. So the fairway distance was probably closer to 190 and then it took off 10% leaving 171.
i think it being in the rough is what is subtracting the 10% of the "recorded shot' because hitting out of the rough does cause less distance...depending on the lie of course
"R10" I think the distances are fairly accurate on the course. When you were hitting the 5 iron in the bottom right it shows that power is reduced by 10% (not sure if that means ball speed or distance). Using distance that would mean your 5 iron in the fairway would have gone ~190 yards, which seems about right. Would be interesting to see this vs. flight scope.
i think it being in the rough is what is subtracting the 10% of the "recorded shot' because hitting out of the rough does cause less distance...depending on the lie of course
Shame the flightscope wasn't kept on so you could compare the two when hitting shots. Maybe a follow up vid?
Completely agree, would have been nice to see the deviation between the two
Please do new test with flightscope on I am sure I am not the only one who wants to see how accurate it is or was it Garmin the told you to switch It Off
I agree. The comparisons I've seen have made the garmin look very disappointing and almost useless tbh. I know for the price it's not going to be as accurate as the top of the range monitors but you want numbers and directions you can trust if you're going to use it to improve
You can’t directly compare them side to side as they both use Doppler technology meaning that the waves would interfere with one another .
I will jump in with everyone else and say I'd like to see a comparison.
Where was this “R10” last year!? I bought the G80 for fun into my net at home but this is what I was wishing for! Love the G80 on course though, very accurate gps…Garmin as always verified good products
" R10" - This thing is my dream sim since I dont have the room in my house to put other sims in. Golfing everyday will drop my 25 handicap quickly. Super nice of you for doing this give away
A track man or GC Quad is way out of my price range- this seems good enough for a mid handicapper like me. And the price isn’t that bad.
"R10" looks like you had the club selection on D when hitting your iron. Be interesting to see if inputting club selection makes any difference to the stats. Great video as always.
Image showed driver when stats were reviewed with iron shots
It does. I have one for myself and if you’re hitting a 58° when having “D” on, it says like 150 yards when it’s actually going 60 yards
i noticed this too.... surprised he didnt
I can't wait until these are available again. I just started getting back into golf after about a year or so of not playing. This device looks amazing! Thank you for the great video review!
“R10” my dads 60th birthday is coming up, he used to be around a 2 handicap but we don’t get to play too often unless we land the earliest tee time and he’s got it in him to walk (skin cancer & bad hip). This would eliminate the need for early tee time and walking so much, and it would bring a big smile to his face being able to play the game grew up loving
James I have heard that the r10 usually plays short inside and is a little less accurate. I would love to see you test this outside and see if your distance numbers are a little further. Thanks!
i have one - and i can say. Indoors it reads short. Outdoors I tested against a GC2 - carry numbers were the same within 1 or 2 yards
@@coreymoore01 what about club head data inside?
@@remyd1984 GC2 doesnt read club head data. So I havent been able to compare that yet. If i were to make an educated guess.. path and angle of attack is relatively close but face angle at impact and sidespin are probably still a work in progress. Reason i say that is because it tends to have trouble picking up a draw and instead it reads as a slight push, may have some trouble reading the closure/release of the club head through impact. But - firmware updates as they collect data from users and feedback i am sure they will be able to improve the algorithm that calculates the club head data. IMO its going to be pretty exciting to see how well garmin can improve the unit with the data they collect.
R10
@@coreymoore01 I was planning on selling my R10 and saving up for a skytrak after hearing about inaccurate readings and how short it plays inside especially w longer clubs. Plus skytrak you can play TGC on. Do you really think garmin can improve the unit that dramatically ?
"R10" so many courses to play is a massive appeal, nice piece of kit and maybe future firmware updates will improve accuracy
So you’re willing to pay $600 for something that isn’t accurate with the hopes that “maybe” a firmware will make it more accurate? I’ll wait for the firmware update before I consider purchasing…
@@petegalindez9961 well I can already tell you there’s a new update which has improved accuracy greatly for me. 530 quid for a launch monitor which I have already spent 50 hours in since release.
Hard to beat for value really. If you’re not happy with the accuracy there is a more accurate device called a GCquad priced at 15k+
@@rhysbrown4858 That’s great news if they were able to improve the accuracy! 530 quid (or about $600 USD) is a great price if the data coming out of it is consistent and predictable. For example, I have a $250 PRGR that gives fairly spot on numbers for swing speed, ball speed, smash factor, and carry distance. It’s the club data I’m more interested in. So far, the reviews I’ve watched, the club data is not accurate at all. I’ve seen multiple instances where club path is off by huge numbers, or says the swing was from the inside when it was from the outside (compared side by side with a Trackman). That wouldn’t help someone like me who is working on swing path, face to path, AOA, etc. If they can’t produce consistent numbers (not necessarily 100% accurate), then it could be useful. For example, if the numbers are within 5% or something like that, whereas the GC Quad and Trackman are spot on or within 1%, then I think it might be worth it, but still pushing it. If it’s giving a 10% margin of error…that could be a drive that goes 250 reading out as 225 or 275! That’s meaningless. 5% would be 238-262…better and more useful, but pretty much on the outer boundary for anyone who is a serious golfer trying to dial in gaps. When you are dealing with your irons, that 10% is even a bigger deal…if you hit a 7 iron 150, you could get a reading of 145-165. How could you properly gap your clubs with that kind of data? You can’t. Even 5% is pushing it…giving you 142-158…That said, it appears the r10 gives fairly accurate ball data, which is great. But, if you are taking it to the next level, the club data numbers don’t seem to be as accurate as the ball data at this moment from what I’ve seen…I still might get one as the ball numbers are useful, and with fall/winter approaching, the indoor capabilities of hitting on a range seem like a nice idea…I’m not much of a sim player, but may have to these days. Had both hips replaced in the last 10 years, so playing in sub 50 degree (F) is not in the cards anymore…I’m testing out the Mevo right now. The ball numbers seem to be spot on, but it’s almost the same price as the R10, so at this point, I’m leaning R10…
@@petegalindez9961 Pete thanks for this post. Any updates on your journey to finding one with accurate enough stats to your liking?
@@interpr3t Nope. I gave up. In the end, I was spending more time at the range trying to make sure the units were aligned properly and trying to figure out the wayward readings than actually just enjoying the range session. Decided to go old school and just rely on what I see! Crazy…
“R10”- Just watched video of you testing on the course as well. Looks like a great tool to for both beginners and experienced golfers. Me being a beginner this looks like a great device to help work in my swing and figure out my individual club distances without having to go to a driving range every time.
R10 - would love this for practicing in the winter. Thanks for the opportunity James.
I've seen a lot of reviewers playing home tee hero, and not noticing that they list a power reduction out of the rough. Which often explains the shorter distances. I just got my Garmin R10 and had the same reaction playing out of the rough. Only after did I realize they list the power reduction. Great fun though, I'm really enjoying it so far.
Hey Tyler was it worth the purchase? Considering buying one now
@@backflipsaresweet I love it. I use it mostly indoors, but it's been great for me over the winter here in Canada. Is it _as good_ as the higher end simulators? No, but it's pretty darn good.
"R10" - Would love to try this. It would make range sessions a lot more fun and could even be good to get a feel for courses you haven't played before.
If this uses the same radar tech as adapted from the S80 I have found it does measure short indoors....outside on the range it is pretty spot on. I think its worth doing a comparison indoors / outdoors if you can.
R10 - I love garmin, has a way finder 30 years ago, got a bike computer and a watch I use for golf. would bloody love this
The R10 seems great, I would love to try it out, the range function looks great to identify the exact distance of each club in a visual fun way
"R10" looks a really good training aid. Like a few have said it would have been great to see the comparison between the flight scope and R10
Wouldn’t be surprised if Garmin has some language in rights of use and all the reviewers to not do comparisons - haven’t found anyone that has done a comparison.
"I am astonished by how accurate this probably is". Lol
“R10” This would be perfect to improve my golf game, been playing for a year and am trying to get my handicap down! This would be a huge help! Great video as always, keep it up ⛳️
It's about time hey made a launch monitor that doesn't break the bank and has all the bells and whistles that the average golfer need! thanks James
R10, This is exactly what I'm looking for!! This is the next step in dialling in my distances!
Garmin G80 has helped me become a better player- net, golf mat, warm weather year round helped as well.
Can't wait for the R10. "R10"
"R10" For a guy like me, who spends his "golfing" time hitting into a net, this would be fantastic! Right now I can only judge how well I am striking the ball by the feel and sound. Would be nice to know how good my strike "really" is!!! Thanks Garmin and Thanks James!
R 10 coming out party was great. Thank you for the exposure!
Garmin R10.
I would like to try before you buy. It is something you can use at home if you have a big enough garden.
Great vid again. Keep up the good work.
This is perfect for me to use in my garage in the winter.
R10 Wow, this is just what me and my husband need to improve our golf. Only been playing a year so help needed. Love your channel James.
“R10”. Tasmania is very much like the UK with the weather. I believe this would allow my golf game to improve by being able to play more at home. Fingers and every thing else crossed!!
R10. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these for my budget garage simulator setup
"R10" Im 28 and I just started golfing this year. Every single round I play my score is dropping and I want to keep that trend going but winters here in Canada are probably going to make that difficult until next year. I. Totally addicted and don't want to stop golfing this winter! 😭
“R10” - My brother has introduced me to the game of golf and would love to get something like this for us to practice at home. He’s recently bought his first house and has informed me that he’ll not be golfing for sometime because of budgeting reasons so a launch monitor that doubles as a simulator was the first idea that came to mind. I think he would get a lot of good use of this technology.
Gets better with every update. Awesome product.
R10. Watching every day! Love it, James!
R10 seems to be a very good help for beginners to learn and understand every stroke. I think it is a good way to fast improve your golf.
"R10" more like a "Fore...10" for me :) - which is exactly why I need this little beauty to fix my swing - Great Review!
"R10". The R10 looks like a great simulator for training. Thanks for reviewing the R10.
"R10" - followed some of your content for years on and off through other people's channels and one offs that made my feed. Couldn't believe I hadn't already subscribed! Done 🥳
I absolutely need this R10... This would definitely get me to a single digit handi.
“R10” gamechanger, I hit high lofted soft landing shots and I have been trying to reduce club loft at impact. This R10 would help me monitor my progress
R10. Would love to have one of these to make practice over the winter months more appealing.
R10 - Would be great to practice in my garage during winter!
“R10” This piece of kit would be a game changer for a newish golfer who’s just bought his first full set of clubs, I’m not up-to scratch on my actual distances as we don’t have anything to measure. Price seems so reasonable for what you’re getting and would be a fantastic addition to any golfer.
R10" Thing of beauty! Thanks James, thanks Golf Bays 👍👍
"R10" - great video, solid fair review. Nice to see a solid home setup doesn't need 5grand these days!
R10... Currently building a indoor simulator in the garage for my boys(6&4) they love golf! But with winter here in Minnesota it makes it hard. Would love to get my hands on one of these
"R10" I need this in my life! Thanks for the amazing content
“R10” - Pretty impressive, especially to take to the range and get some solid statistical feedback.
"R10" Great info on this test session. Would work fantastic in my garage this winter!!
very nice , its about time someone has come out with a sim thats afforadable. nice work garmin and james
“R10” it looks like a game changer, not only for me but for the competition! Great review James
R10 baby. Taking lessons now and this would definitely help.
“R10”- as a beginner this would be absolutely ideal to improve my golf game. I just don’t have 600 to spend which is a shame because this little thing seems awesome!!
R10
Agree that making these brighter (ie not black) would help it stand out.on the ground and against the competition.
I have one as well and right out of the box you get lifetime access to 5 e6 courses with a code. Also looked pretty dark you get more accurate numbers in better light
“R10” - Would love to give one of these a go!! The fact that it’s so compact is very appealing and the data feedback is great. Great product Garmin👍
”R10” Im junior and would love it when practicing! Nice video!
“R10” thanks for the demo! Can’t wait to get my hands on one!
R10 I love this in the golf bag James. I can see how much my son hits the ball than me
R10- Would love to have a launch monitor to help improve my game. New to the game since Covid, it has been my outlet, and enjoying golf!
R10. Cool golf launch monitor. Love Garmin products!
R10 - I would love to have this and have fun playing courses with my dad
R10. Would love to have this for the winter range sessions coming up!
R10. I could really use one of these to help may game and try to go further into the professional side of golf.
R10. Trying to practice into a net in the garage. No idea of ball flight. This looks ideal. Like that it doesn’t have to be too far from the tee location.
"R10" Nicely described and made this sounds ideal for someone like me spending the odd 30 minutes in a net at home - I just don;t have the time to visit the range every day. I can see this making a big difference to a high handicapper.
R10 looks great for the price. Would be very useful for my Chicago winter downtime.
“R10” - great vid James and cracking mini launch monitor
R10- would love this. Good luck to everyone 😊
“R10” this would go great with my analytical background helping me with my golf game, thanks!
I watched multiple reviews on this. Same thing in everyone. Spin was way more then the better launch monitors(gc4) distance was down quite a bit in comparison as well. Good price for sure, but what’s the point of the numbers are way off? Plenty of launch monitors for cheap that produce false numbers. This is just a new one
R10 would be perfect for my winter practice James
Oh my more gadgets! I will definitely buy one to accompany to my range finder
R10. Excellent review James. Keep up the good work.
“R10” - As someone who lives in the PNW, trying to work on a new swing this fall and winter in the off season, I think this is going help me crush it next spring. This would really easy the monotony of constant range sessions.
R10 - what an amazing piece of tech this is and great value, would love to win this
Approach R10 all day. !!!!Been using my Garmin gps for years !!!
R10
I bought the Garmin approach G18 over lockdown, it was pretty good all shots are short on it though/ This R10 looks better.
"R10" Being a Type "A" personality I will be spending a lot of time looking over the numbers portion! However, I am always trying to improve my handicap and this would be the perfect tool to help in that direction! Would really love to win this item and report back on my experience with it! Perfect price point.
Type A people don’t ask for silly handouts online.
R10
Looks incredible. So crazy all that from a tiny little device!
R10 - Seems an amazing value, love all the data
R10, would love this James!
R10- would love to get this. Looks like a good product
"R10" - Can't get this anywhere, and moving across the country, getting new people to play with is hard. Picking up the hobby after many years with to much work and too little time. Really enjoying shaving shots here and there from tips from great videos.
R10 - Good video, leaning on buying one of these!
R10!!!
This thing looks awesome! Thank you.
"R10" - Amazing product. Seems worth to try this product.
"R10" - would be super excited to try this, need a away to track my slice 👍
“R10” I have been trying to find a way to better analyze my swing and what I am doing on club impact. Having something like this will help me actually understand what my inconsistency is stemming from
R10. This looks amazing! It could really change my game!
R10 - just returned to golfing after a 20 year break , feel this could really assist in developing a consistent swing and impact
R10 - great video a very real and true comparison of the two products. For me the R10 would be a step up from the Garmin Truswing I use currently
"R10" Great review man could be super helpful for range practice!
Great tool, R10I've been looking for good launch monitor for quite a while, this one has gone straight to top of my list.
R10 My game needs this! Love the channel!
my friend got this based on good reviews. he said it was miserable and returned it. he was very dissapointed. He is the best golfer i know. My other friend talked trash saying that he was cheap for only spending $600 on a golf simulator.
