How many lumens is your projector
What suggestions would you make regarding your platform (Stance Pad) if it needs to be for both left and right handed hitters?
,🔕🚕🚕😷😑🥝
What turf choice did you go with for the replacement on optishot the Matzilla or the T line turf? And did you go with the XL or just normal? Thanks for this video it is a huge help
That ductless AC unit would be a goner after day one for me.
Same hahaha
He uses foam balls…I really think people comment and don’t watch the video
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Gonna come back to this video in a couple years when I have the space for this kind of project!
Going to come back in 10 years and build this on the fking moon. Hopefully I can account for the gravity difference or else I’ll have 500 yard drives with a PW
Dude... God bless you! Been wanting to build a simulator for a while. This is the exact video I've been needing. Especially the info about replacing the hitting surface that comes with the Optishot. Thanks a million and consider me subscribed!
Optishot is not an accurate learning or practice tool. It’s a game
Working on my optishot set up today. Cool video. Definitely going to build a similar stance pad. I just got my Arsene golf tracking number for the upgrade turf!
Just ordered an Optishot but the Arsene website said he's not taking new orders for a bit because he's too busy. Do you have any recommendations for a platform. I like the idea in the video but was worried it wouldn't be durable enough if someone (mostly me) completely missed the optishot pad and drove the clubhead into the platform itself. I feel like it would rip right through that turf he used.
Just wanted you to know that I used your plan to make my hitting platform as I just got a used OptiShot2 with the JagManJoe turf. It came out great! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas!
yes, I caught the subtle Officespace reference at about 15:35 LOL great vid
Great video. Just a thought if you trowel the glue, spread it out the pad won't move. You might run into the pad starting to buckle under the turf.
Yea that probably would have been a little better way to do it. I guess I was just to eager to get it done
Great video 👌 cutting carpet is so much easier when using a curved Stanley blade though, a normal blade dulls too quickly and you end up hacking at the carpet.
I like this alot, very close to our setup at home. We have our hitting mat for Right/Left players. I am going to re-do my screen as you did yours with the bugies and 2 sided tape. great job.
Great "Low Profile, Low Space Impact" design. Gonna copy it.
Thanks
Thanks Bradley and good luck!
My man thank you so much!! I’ve been toying with the idea of building something like this for sometime and you made it look pretty simple. Thank you for your tutorial!!
I know it's a step up in price but I personally think Skytrak is the better way to go if you are serious about golf improvement. it is a real launch monitor and can be used in small spaces as well. Optishot is ultimately a glorified video game. I have a vid on my sim setup if you are interested.
I built a similar set up around 12 years ago. I had the Golf Simulator of America ( from Naples Florida) system and I used it as a portable set up to fit in my car and took it around hotels golf clubs and corporate days etc as a business. I had a lot of fun doing that for a few years. P.S. I also used foam balls for safety reasons. PPS. What's with the bagpipes. I live in Scotland near Carnoustie
Be cool to take the sensors and incorporate into the Country Club Elite mat. Great job and video!
My friends would hit a lot of stuff in that room but it looks clean.
Cool setup. Should have left 6" under the minisplit to be able to service it though.
One way to save a lot of money is to use a computer with a large flat screen monitor instead of the projector. The monitor would show the shot results. Obviously it wouldn't be on the wall where you are aiming when you line up. It would be in front of you - where you are facing towards the side wall - sideways from where the the ball goes. We had a set up like that with FlightScope software and sensor when I worked for a Golf Digest Top 100 rated custom club fitter. We had a small target on the netting. Also, netting is a lot less expensive than the projection screen. It worked well.
I think you should give a try to R-Motion golf simulator which is around same price with optishot and much more accurate and is able to give attack angle spinrate and etc. You clip the tiny wireless sensor to your club and you’re good to go. That is if you are looking for the best budget setup ;)
amazing! I have a pretty good epson 1080p projector and a serviceable Mac Mini that have been collecting dust. I've been thinking about doing something cool with them. I think I just found it! Now I'll have to spend the next few weekends cleaning out and making room in my garage...
did the optishot setup work with mac
Just wondering what happens when a left handed shot comes over to play?
Making that stance pad might be better if it were a little bigger and the optishot was in the middle. Food for thought.
Yeah also the “you don’t really hit the ball off your back foot” comment is false. I’d make the pad huge for both left handlers and so you could play the ball off your back foot for the lower chip shots.
This is awesome, but you must not have any left-handed friends. What would you suggest to accommodate both right and left-handed users?
I do. I would suggest building another platform that could go on the side where a lefty would stand
Awesome project! Next time we get together... TOP GOLF GAME ON!
The stapler comment was super funny😂
Great video. I didn't catch what room of your house this is, garage? Really high ceilings
Step 1: Have a high enough ceiling
haha yeah a mate of mine just didn't understand/believe me that I can't swing a club inside my house.
Step 1: nope
Lol right! No one but Rogue has that high of a ceiling.
Yea :( I think I’m dead in the water cuz I have 9 foot ceilings.
Isn’t 9’ enough?
Step 1. How to build a big garage!! I would love this set up for winter here in Canada. But first, need my step one. Might have to fill in the inground and make it into a driving range/golf oasis. :OP
been wanting to do something like this when i buy a house. thanks for the idea, looks like it will work out great
Great video but one question. How will you putt?
What movie projector did you purchase? Your link no longer works for the specific model you are using.
Thanks
Man.... I am jealous! I love me some golf! Really enjoyed today's project!
Thanks man!
How does the auto tee system function I’m assuming when the camera detects that the ball is hit it tells a program that controls the electric motor of the tee amd retracts it and the balls just funnel to the tees lowest point of movement so it can just pick one up? Also how does the tilting surface work? Because that would have to pull data from the course correct? So I assume golf zone just sets all their products up to function together but I kinda wanna build my own so I’m curious if I can sync my own creation with their game data and construct the hardware portion without having to buy golfzon products to reverse engineer
Good luck servicing that Minisplit AC unit
I've all the sudden become interested in golf.... :) Great video
You’re a beauty bud. Can you send me a link for that magnetic stud finder? I’ve never seen that and it’s that’s so simple.
Please pleas please make a video of a version of this for baseball off a tee. I have done some research into and would gladly share it with you to get you started.
great set up to practice your stinger shots.
I'm assuming you're hitting the foam balls you got with the otpishot - how well is the projector screen holding up from the impact?
How do you adjust the OPTi shot sensors for the new height of the 2” hit pad? I don’t see that step
Lol, say goodbye to that mini split😂
Does this correctly track spin and slice etc? My main goal with such a tool would be to practice that damn slice.
Very impressive 👏
I really enjoy watching your video special this one because I have been planning to purchase a simulator but really expensive. Now, I can do it myself with the help of my Son. How big is the actual projector? Do you think the 7 1/2 feet height will fit? Let me know pls. Thanks
I have already built my platform and am waiting on my sensor to arrive. Can you tell me the dimensions of the hole you cut to drop the sensor into the pad? Also ordered the pad you suggested from Arsene. Thanks for the info. Great video!
Why not place the sensor in the middle of the stance pad that way left and right can hit?
Awesome video and will definitely be building this soon!!! One question, if using foam balls, can you use a motorized projector screen? Wondering what kind of tweaking would be needed to make it work…. Appreciate replies with any ideas 🙂. Thanks!!!
Great setup.
My only thing is: simulators are events, not actual golf. I would go the full 9s on tech that gives me swing speed, ball speed etc.
Work on distance (information) in the offseason. This setup is more for entertaining/activity.
Your talking about a launch monitor. 10-15K just for the monitor, then whatever you spend on the mat, screen ect.
how far away is your platform from the screen? Just trying to get my garage dimensions down
should of centered it so if you have a lefty comer over they can hit too
nobody wants to be friends with a lefty
Have you had that minisplit worked on since you put that up because alot of minisplit units have to be able to access right below them?
Nice build - what's the software you use, and what would you say is the minimum height to ceiling? Thank you for the videos
Which pad did you select for replacement from their website since there are multiple ones if you don’t mind me asking? My optishot 2 should be in this week! Thankyou
the ball doesn't ding the sheetrock behind?
Great Video! I'm currently making a similar set up. How has your projection screen held up to the impact of the foam balls? I'm going to be using Almost golf balls, was wondering if I should put up a net in front of the screen. Thanks!
Looks great amazing room but for that much ,wouldn’t a skytrak be better than the opti shot? Great video though.
Ant yes but a skytrak is $2,000 and an optishot is $350
And a SkyTrak won't work with foam balls
what about someone who is left handed? Do you just turn the platform around?
You're going to kill that mini-split. lol
Very Professional Done. Great Job!!
Amazing video pal! Really enjoyed the thorough explanations.
How do you hit wedges in that room?
My man, just finished this wish I could send a pic! You rock
Anything you would change or do different. I'm going to build one soon
@@davidartrip6732 it mainly goes down to ceiling height!
I mean it’s nice but anything over an 8 iron will just go over the screen?
Very cool. It looks like it would be a blast. Great job.
Thank you!
No chipping signs are a must lol
Is the foam ball to club impact similar to if you hit a normal ball or is there a significant difference?
Excellent video. I’m still trying to determine how to design and build my own affordable garage simulator, and this is a great resource. Nice content and delivery,
This optishot upgrade is very enticing vs the $kytrack. However, I would like to hit real balls, so other than a different screen setup, is there anything you would have done differently in hindsight? Thanks in advance 👍🏼
Great video, have you any suggestions for building a diy hitting mat?
8:35 No matter who you are or how handy you are, you will always try to plug the usb connector upside down the first time.
No Left-handed friends? Great video.
That window to the left of the big screen... did you board it up yet?!
Very nice video! Great job
Just wondering how tall the matt is after everything is said and done?
Did anyone catch the Office Space reference when he mentioned using a stapler? ;-)
As a lefty this pains me. But great set up!
Just flip the pad around
@@joejohnson273 Won't work, the sensor is towards the front. You'd need to build the pad deeper and center the sensor more for that to work.
What's the turf upgrade you got. What model ?
What’s the size of the screen and how high is your ceiling?
That's all cool but what's the total cost .
Bro, that was so cool. What an amazing video. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool video. Didn't know you could build an affordable at home simulator. $1500 all in is not bad at all.
What keeps your iron for getting caught in the sensor canyon RIGHT BEHIND WHERE THE BALL SITS?!??
Please tell me what app you are using for your laptop
That's great, and I actually had a P3Pro simulator in the past. I paid 2k for it, and only used it a handful of times because it wasn't that accurate. The optishot is even worse. But, your setup is awesome. I would rather invest in a decent launch monitor with a net.
I totally agree. I know it's a step up in price but I personally think Skytrak is the way to go. it is a real launch monitor and can be used in small spaces as well. Optishot is ultimately a glorified video game. I have a vid on my sim setup if you are interested.
@@bitario723 Here you go: th-cam.com/video/97pePtttzhY/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video and setup! Too bad if you have any lefty mates though..
Excellent looking simulator! One question though, are you not worried about your AC unit up top there for higher lofted clubs?
You can hit foam balls. The OptiShot tracks the club head movement, so a foam ball will get you the same simulated result. No damage to your house that way!
Hey well done on the stance pad build. Im copying a lot of your steps. Is there anything you’ve noticed over time that you would have done differently? Would you still use the carpet pad adhesive or has it caused problems over time?
Sean I'll ask you the same question. Anything you've noticed or would you change anything. getting ready to build one myself
@@davidartrip6732 Yeah so I was pretty happy with the way the pad i built felt underfoot. I used thinner foam in between bc that’s all I could find. But I am going to redo the entire stance platform as a full width fold out platform to be able to incorporate room for left handed golfers also. I will still use the same types of techniques and materials as the video so I guess it’s holding up after all.
Dope setup man! My only question is, what if one of your buddies is a lefty? I'm looking into building a similar setup but, I myself am a lefty and all of my buddies are righties. Should I put the sensor in the middle or build a second slightly smaller platform for the other side?
Jackson Stewart If the mat and sensor is light enough you could just move it 180 degrees and there ya go
@@kripticgam3r155 i dont think you can because the sensor is in the front... you should build a pad twice as wide and put the sensor in the middle
We're building this today. Thanks for the idea and instructions!
Good idea. You and your friends must be really great ball strikers to not have anything to stop a mishit from going through the wall/ceiling. lol
Do you mirror/duplicate screen to projector using WiFI Dongle on PC?
So we got that goin for us... Which is nice!!! :)
what is your ceiling height?
The only thing I can't see working is pitch shots that elevate quickly.
What about the window
Man bro. Great vid. I need to assemble one of those asap.
How in the world is having a big strip (sensor) right in front of the ball that not horridly distracting?
I wonder how many times that air conditioning unit up the top is going to get hit?
With a wide groove in the mat 2" behind the ball (this contains a sensor, presumably) what happens if you hit it fat, 2' behind the ball?(admit it, we've all done it) Does it break your wrist?
Toby Barker it does not, but it does not feel great lol. About the same as you feel when you do it on the course. Just sounds worse 😂
Optishot should give you a vision
Hi! Great vid! I got one and only question, i checked the screen you bought and seems to me this is not impact friednly? Is it still flat after hitting countless shots? Thank you, i hope you got the time to reply :]
Its not an impact screen just a movie screen. He uses foam balls, if you're planning on using real ones you need an impact screen.
@@bclarkwood20 Oh, i somehow missed that, thank you :]
Nice “Office Space” reference lol
How high of ceilings do you have in your garage??
I have 9 1/2 foot ceilings in my garage sim setup and it works well. I have a vid of the setup if you are interested.
