    If you’re in the position in life where you can afford a $5000 launch monitor, you are most likely not worried about a $10 a month subscription. God do I wish I can get one of these for Chase and myself for when it gets to 100° plus Fahrenheit with 95% humidity. Here in Thailand.

    The subscription price ($100/yr) for Garmin Golf absolutely isn’t hefty in comparison to the rest of the industry. Bushnell charges $500/yr just to unlock basic software functionality. Uneekor charges $400, Skytrak+ and Rapsodo charge more than Garmin. The Garmin Golf sub also unlocks green contour mapping if you have a compatible Garmin golf watch.

    • @Evan_Rodgers
      @Evan_Rodgers หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      There’s no cost to use third party connectors, so this is actually one of the cheapest continued-use LMs for GSPro.

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Evan_Rodgersthat’s what I thought! I don’t like subscriptions but compared to the market it’s positively cheap! And if you have the garmin watch (which no one else is talking about but I happen to have one) you get the benefit on the course too. Great deal from garmin in my opinion. I think they should’ve thrown in a free year maybe for the price you’re paying for the unit, but still I wouldn’t be complaining!

    • @MrFeelBueno

      $199 annually to Uneekor and a separate $250 annually to GSPro on my Eye Mini, if helpful.

  • @OMG-2
    @OMG-2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think you nailed it with the simplicity EXCEPT you didn't mention the constant bending to interface with the unit while playing a round. During practice that issue sort of goes away unless you want to map the data to a particular club and change often. As much as you hammered home the price it seems to be right priced for a unit with all its features. For folks without enough suitable space for radar units there currently is no great option without any subscription. The Uneekor Eye Mini and Eye Mini Lite have a $200 annual subscription minimum and the golf courses that you get with it are pitiful. The Eye Mini, with a screen that does much less than the R50 (yet is still better than Bushnell/GC3) is typically sold at the same price as the R50 and requires an iPad at minimum to get a driving range and shot shape and to play a sim round you need a PC to play the terrible Refine golf courses that are included. The Eye Mini LITE version costs much less but has no screen and MUST have a PC or iPad to get ANY data similar to the SkyTrak+. The only upside is, like the Garmin, they do not charge extra to connect to 3rd party options. So I guess, like everything else, you get what you pay for and the R50 earns its hefty price with all the features and simplicity it provide.
    One more thing... I can't think of another unit would be better to go out in the back and hit balls into a net for a golf simulation experience.

    Garmin is nailling it. Is an apple like business model that just gets you at some point. Ive been using garmin approach watches for the last 7 seven years, Ive tried to use apple watch ultra and Tag Heurer but somehow I always come back to Garmin, its just better in every single feature. I also got the Garmin R10 and I just love it. So, when you are into the garmin ecosystem, paying a $100 USD suscription that you’re gonna use in all your devices is nothing.

    Like a lot of LMs it will be better after one maybe two software updates after initial product launch.
    The R50 is definitely the LM which spent rather too much time at the "all you can eat" buffet!
    Things I love:
    - no subscription fees for the basic club and ball data
    - options for temperature and humidity, I love the idea of finding out what a cold day does to my carry distances.
    - no need for a PC unless you want to play GSPro or E6 Apex or similar. HTH2 is still a bit cartoonish but very playable.
    - Garmin subscription is very reasonably priced
    - Software is very customisable
    - speed of response
    Things I think need improved
    - ideally I would like to see a 4K version. 1080p is good but it could be better.
    - does not provide descent angle data
    - not convinced that the club data is as accurate as it should be - but that is very common issue for new LM
    - HTH2 should include course total yardages with each course description
    - price
    None of the negatives are major other than the price. This is a great device, there could be some interesting integration with other Garmin devices such as their GPS watches, rangefinders etc

    “This is just to prove what we already know that this [the R50] is accurate […] Garmin is known even with the R10 and some other units to be very accurate. ”
    Um, no we don’t know that this is accurate. I would think that’s one of the main points of a review like this!
    Saying that is completely disingenuous.
    In fact, the R10 specifically is known to be pretty inaccurate, especially indoors, and especially with both higher ball-speeds, even with RCT balls, and shorter chip shots.
    And the R10 and Garmin’s other LM’s are all Doppler radar-based systems. This is their first photometric unit, so they don’t have any experience with a unit like this.
    From what I’ve seen on Reddit, the GSPro discord, and some TH-cam comments on R50 reviews, this thing can spit out some weird numbers.
    More testing required!
    And what is the size of its hitting area? Looks tiny?
    I couldn’t recommend this at this point over a BLP/GC3 or Eye Mini/Lite.
