Hey David, what are you using for your tee on the mat? It looks like the perfect set up. Currently I am using the rubber tees you see on the range but at times I think it interferes with the shot. Curious what you are using. Thanks.
Hi there, good video, very clear and comprehensive. I have already got the R10 and have used it several times. I find it generally very good although sometimes it does give weird results. One thing that I have failed to find is a guide to what is the target range for certain metrics. For example what would be the target for club path and what would be an acceptable range. I did get in touch with Garmin on their chat service but was told to consult with my local golf pro! That seemed a bit of a cop out. Many thanks for your thoughts.
Hey Bryan, thanks 😊 have you seen the pga tour averages that trackman released? You can get images of them from google. That should give you a good starting point
Been watch a lot of your videos on the R10, extremely helpful and thank you for these. I have a few quick questions. • I did order one of the leveling platforms you recommended, I assume if my hitting mat is 1.5” off the floor I want the adjustable legs on the platform to be 1.5” as well, correct? o If this is the case, how does this work when switch to hitting off of tee, leave it at the raised 1.5” or do I need to raise it to match the tee height? • It seems alignment of the R10 relative to the ball and target is key in the set up (hence the adjustable platform). Let’s assume I have everything setup and working correctly for iron shots but then want to switch to driver in which the mat tee is 6” to the right of where I was hitting irons, do I need to move the R10 6” to the right as well and recalibrate or is there a certain degree in adjustability to this?
Leave the unit level with the mat for hitting driver with a tee. The reason is need to be level with the mat for irons is so that it doesn’t make sure irons come out with extremely low launch. Because your setting driver up on the tee the unit will pickup the launch correctly as that’s what you do on course. But you don’t hit a ball with an iron from below the surface of the turf if that makes sense so the unit should be lower than the turf surface
Enjoy your videos. Wondering if you might have some thoughts about club path with the R10. I’m getting very unusual club path numbers. I use a laser to align my down the line videos and the R10. When I video my swing, I can see the club path is not out to end because I can pick up the laser touching the club before it touches the ball and it’s moving from the tow to the center of the club. The R10 is showing a out to in swing as high as 15 degrees. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Hi David. Wanted to see if I can email you a photo of my set up. I can seem to get accurate numbers. I have tried the leveler and messed around with the distances. My 9 iron its saying gets a cary of 70ish yards max
Hey David, I ended up buying the Garmin R10 and it’s been an interesting journey. I think I underestimated how much space I need haha. Having said that the backyard is big enough but it isn’t perfectly flat. Do you think as long as I get a stand for the Garmin and level it things will be accurate? Or is the fact my hitting area isn’t totally flat going to cause issues or will the stand fix that issue? Thanks for all the videos
Make sure you have enough room. (6-7feet either side of the ball and that the Garmin is on a stand level with the mat. If it’s calibrated that should fix most of the issues. Also use either Awesome Golf as an app or e6 😊
Thanks for the videos I have using awesome golf with the garmin for about a week do find it really good when I got it fully set up correctly, just wondering how do I save range sessions on it or can I?
Hijacking a bit on this thread: When using the garmin golf app (android phone only), how do you enter the clubs used during a live/real world round? All I see is score and # of putts. Does one need a watch in conjuntion with the app to record those stats?
Hi David Great video, enjoyed the thorough information I’m new to the launch monitor world. Me and my 15yr old son need one to help him with his game. Just wondering how accurate the R10 is to the higher end launch monitors like Foresight or Bushnell. I’m on a budget but I need a good one. Do the numbers compare relatively close to those?
Well actually the MLM2PRO is better and 24/7 golf have an outdoor package deal for $1,999 including the mlm2pro, net and mat. Just use my code DMAX200 to get the discount and price at $1,999.00
That’s awesome well done! And no I haven’t tried GSPRO but it’s on the list. The only reason why I haven’t tried it is because to my knowledge it doesn’t have an app and I use the R10 with my IPad. Too tricky to use it with a computer when I’m always moving my setup around 😊
Hey David, what other features does the Garmin R10 have. I have just started looking at launch monitors. This video was much more comprehensive that another I watched. The set-up seems very key in getting the accuracy. I am curious as to what else it does and if you will do a video on it. Thanks! Well done.
I am looking to buy a launch monitor to use on the range only and my primary use will be to lock in my carry distance and I like to work on my path numbers club and face, when I tried a friends R10 the path numbers seem to be off, do you agree and which monitor would you recommend?
I think they’re spot on for me but I don’t like using launch monitors for numbers on the range if you’re using range balls. I’d prefer hitting premium balls into a net. Much more accurate to on course
thanks for the video David, is the alignment stick pointing straight down your ball line or is it aiming at the centre of the net? If its aiming down the line surely if i hit to the centre target of the net it will read as a draw? Hope thats not a stupid question :)
What is this like for outside usage and accuracy? As in on a driving range, also I guessing the ball has to be directly inclined with where the alignment stick is?
You have 2 foot either side where the ball can go. The range is good but it picks up the range ball numbers as range balls so you’ll never get premium ball numbers if your hitting at the driving range. If that makes sense. It actually makes the unit even more accurate
Hi David , using the awesome golf app but my distance are way out . With 82mph swing my 7 iron carry is 160m where is reality on course its 150m. Any suggestions ? 6 iron carrying 170m total 185m which is not possible
Hi David Great video. About to receive my R10 so this video really helped. Can I ask where you got the mat from? Or what I should look out for? Net wise I was looking at Spornia or Rukket SDPR.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Thank you so much for your response, just started the home garage simulator project and I'd like to find something realistic and doesn't injure the joints. I'll check that out. I really enjoy your videos, numbers and comparisons are king. Keep it up.
David, thank you again for the suggestion, per the Spornia web site their mats are sold out. Could you recommend a few other brands I could try? Thank you, Jack
@@davidmaxfieldgolf one more topic, I've seen all your "Set Up" videos including the Weather Conditions corrections, I have the Awesome Golf App and use a Titleist RCT ball. Have you encountered faulty readings while hitting towards a metal garage door (unfortunately, I also have aluminum foil insulation board on the garage door). Golf Test Dummy has mentioned you in one of his videos, he mentions metal objects behind the screen can cause faulty readings. Have you also encountered this? Thank you for your time, Jack
Great vid…I’ve only had issues with driver distances into a net. Just a little short but it could be me. What software update are you using? I’m still on 3.8 bc I’ve got good results and don’t want to screw it up. Thanks for your reply in advance!
I have just bought a Garmin R10 and tried using it on the backyard net but it did not register at all. I watched your video and noticed you are setting up 7 &1/2 feet back from net. I have yet to try this as many forums have said it can't be used with backyard net. I will try your set up before returning the unit for refund , it also may be a problem with Garmin app. Thanks
Really dumb question but can you show us how you set up the tee claw ? Do you use a regular tee and does it fly out of the tee claw or stay in after each hit
is there a certain max heigth the garmin can be before it gives you bad readings? I have a slight hill behind my setup and don't want to dig If I don't have too.

Awesome video! I have been having an issue with both not registering club path and carry distance being about 10 yards short. I have no idea why. Using RCT balls and the distances so measured with a tape measure. It is also about 12 feet to my screen. It seems like when I calibrate the club path will work once then stop working. Do you pay for the club path metrics through garmin as well? I am on the trial of awesome golf and right now I am really considering not keeping the r10 at all because of the low numbers and the fact it doesn't pick up club path. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the video! My R10 gets delivered later today so I am very anxious to get it setup correctly. Question about ball position. DO you need to be hitting directly in line with the R10 each time? For instance, if my mat has holes for rubber tees with a driver, can I move to the left a few inches with irons and back to the holes with a tee with a driver and still have it be accurate? Thanks for the help!
I will be using my R10 exclusively on the driving range, hence hitting range balls only. That said is the Awesome Golf software better for my needs than the software that comes with the R10?
It's getting a lot better. I think the distances if you use your current location are close. best way to check is record your shots on course then on the r10. But actually use measured data from the course, not just a personal calculation including rollout etc
That’s a tough one to answer as everything is so subjective. I wouldn’t even want to guess really as I could be very wrong. Check it out with a coach though and they will tell you
Great video David! How do you feel about the accuracy of the spin and face/path numbers. Do you feel like they have improved as the R10 sees more firmware updates? Is it on par with the flightscope Mevo+?
@@chadbeuoy7165 I’m not 100% sure as I haven’t tried but for me it give accurate numbers anyway so there’s no need to spend $100aud on balls that don’t last long in the hitting net 😊
Playing in my golf practice with the R10 and I too found it’s accurate but the Garmin software is basic. I tried to use the range sim which is fine but saving the sim and viewing the sim data is appalling. You need to download the file and open it in excel to analyse the session. If you want to play a virtual round is dreadful and forces you to look at E6 or Awesome golf almost immediately. Fortunately I am also a big fan of awesome golf so I really don’t need the range sim in Garmin. Perhaps a warning to others - R10 is a piece of technology you need but you also need to subscribe to Awesome Golf to get its full functionality
How does that Spornia net do from 7-8 ft away with catching balls that are mishit or off the hosel? I am thinking about going with this same setup in my garage, but needing to be 8 ft from the net with the R10 seems risky.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I’m setting mine up tonight. 10 feet from my net seems pretty risky. Definitely don’t want to miss the net! Thanks, enjoy your content.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf was it in your video that i've heard you mention that you feel like the numbers are more accurate in awesome golf? Or what program are you using? I've only hit a few balls into the garmin test range. looking to get a paid subscription
I don’t think at this stage the Mevo plus is worth the extra money. In terms of the sleep mode that’s just people not updating the unit on a desktop. Easy fix really
Hey mate great stuff! Are you elevating your R10 to the same height as the tee when using Driver? Or is the R10 on the same level as the mat with all clubs?
Great vid! Question - in your experience, and given your skill (as seen on this channel), are you able to move club path and club face by 1-2 degrees (either way)? Have you ever tried that? I'm currently working on that and wanted to know that the R10 is actually accurate enough to pick this up. Even better would be a video of you doing this. Better players are able to manipulate path and face by 1-2 degrees at will. I'm sure you can given your skill.
I like my Garmin R10 but I am not good at golf to this degree. I would say what you are looking for is only in the 10k+ monitors. If you change your swing will the numbers change on the Garmin sure but the accuracy is not to this level. From Garmin website Radar Accuracy Measured by Radar Club head speed accuracy: +/- 3 mph Ball speed accuracy: +/- 1 mph Launch angle accuracy: +/- 1 degree Launch direction accuracy: +/- 1 degree Calculated by Algorithm Club face angle accuracy: +/- 2 degrees Apex height accuracy: +/- 5 feet Carry distance accuracy: +/- 5 yards
im a high handicap golfer and it 100% helped me with face and path. feel vs real. it's easy to make what feel like major changes and see the data to see if you actually changed the face, or what helped me more was path. changed my game off the tee. i think it gives enough feedback to make changes for sure. I love it.
Hi David. I found the garmin golf app really inaccurate on the range setup properly with alignment sticks and levels hence trying Awesome golf. Tried setting e6 up to get to the range but too difficult. For now I am only really interested in the range to get club/ball data. 2 questions: 1. Can Awesome golf range only be used by paying $500? 2. At the moment Im still on 14day trial. How do I see my range sessions without garmin being connected? Rgrds
Hey mate, you’ll always need the Garmin app open while using awesome golf and yeah unfortunately their pricing structure if pretty much fixed with the 2 options. What part is inaccurate? Is it the distance?
@@davidmaxfieldgolf, thanks for the reply. It is mainly the distance. 10-15m carry distance. Garmin said 135 carry vs close to 150 with Awsome 7i. Shot shape was fairly similar. Is there a way to see historical range sessions with Awesome golf? I saw some videos of you doing garmin and awesome at the same time. How did you do that? It seems garmin only tracks it if the garmin app is active on iphone screen.
The other R10 review all indicated that the club speed and carry distances were very accurate when compared to the Quad. However, the R10 club path and face to club path numbers weren't close to the Quad. What has your experience been?

I’m new to the launch monitor world.
Just use my code DMAX200 to get the discount and price at $1,999.00
Thanks David!
Also, how do you connect the MLM2 to a smart TV?
You would need Apple TV or some casting application
Have you tried GSPro... I got an r10 arriving this week. got it from golf box... was on the mailing list. sold out in hours
Thanks! Well done.
Hey Kevin, check out my Garmin R10 video playlist. There’s about 55 videos of the R10 on there 😁
I am looking to buy a launch monitor to use on the range only and my primary use will be to lock in my carry distance and I like to work on my path numbers club and face, when I tried a friends R10 the path numbers seem to be off, do you agree and which monitor would you recommend?
I think they’re spot on for me but I don’t like using launch monitors for numbers on the range if you’re using range balls. I’d prefer hitting premium balls into a net. Much more accurate to on course
thanks for the video David, is the alignment stick pointing straight down your ball line or is it aiming at the centre of the net? If its aiming down the line surely if i hit to the centre target of the net it will read as a draw? Hope thats not a stupid question :)
I line the ball up with the Garmin and it’s generally lined up slightly to the right half of the net 😊
The stand you used to attach the matt to do you have a link for that.
The stand for the Garmin? Should be linked in the description. Global Golf tech Solutions 😊
Whats your ideal distances for garmin to ball, and then ball to net/screen?
6.5 feet to call then 10 feet (or more) to screen
Does your net stay outside all the time and if so how does hold up?
Mostly but better to fold it down for longer lasting
Must be reading the spin low, are you using the RCT ball?
Hey Dave,
Love the channel. Question: Besides Awesome golf what app would you use? E6? Garmin?
Thanks
Yeah e6. I’ve just done a few comparisons on them all and put them up against awesome golf 😁
Do you need to recalibrate when changing from ball on mat to teed up?
I don’t but it wouldn’t hurt
Great video! What mat do you recommend?
Definite the Spornia mats. They're the best and priced really well too 😊
Hi David
Great video. About to receive my R10 so this video really helped. Can I ask where you got the mat from? Or what I should look out for?
Net wise I was looking at Spornia or Rukket SDPR.
The R10 is amazing and I got my Matt from SPORNIA
Great Vid! Is the awesome golf app way more accurate than using the garmin app? Is there a big difference? Thanks.
I believe there is. It’s incredible 😊
Great video, thanks. Can you suggest a "quality" mat, what will give us accurate numbers? Thank you, Jack
Sure it’s in the video here 😁 the spornia 2D mat is fantastic and that’s what I use
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Thank you so much for your response, just started the home garage simulator project and I'd like to find something realistic and doesn't injure the joints. I'll check that out. I really enjoy your videos, numbers and comparisons are king. Keep it up.
@@johnjunto5346 Thank you mate, much appreciated.
I’m in 4.0 and it’s great 😊
I have just bought a Garmin R10 and tried using it on the backyard net but it did not register at all.
I watched your video and noticed you are setting up 7 &1/2 feet back from net. I have yet to try this as many forums have said it can't be used with backyard net.
I will try your set up before returning the unit for refund , it also may be a problem with Garmin app.
Thanks
Should be at least 9.5 feet. And you will need to update the R10 on a desktop through Garmin Express then everything will work
Really dumb question but can you show us how you set up the tee claw ? Do you use a regular tee and does it fly out of the tee claw or stay in after each hit
Just screws into any mat 😊 then has a string also that you can connect to another tee claw
@@davidmaxfieldgolf thanks! I do the same set up but my tees keep breaking I was seeing if you did anything different
Oh yeah my tee breaks too
Looks like the Spornia screen is not loud at all. Is that the case?
Definitely not loud 😊
is there a certain max heigth the garmin can be before it gives you bad readings? I have a slight hill behind my setup and don't want to dig If I don't have too.
Enough to swing a club is fine
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I’m talking about the height of the garmin compared to the mat. Like mat is 2” thick and the garmin would be almost 6” higher
@@EHUDPOWER no just sane height as the mat
what size of golf mat do you use? would a 3 x 5 foot mat be big enough?
yes i think so. I use the Spornia D2 Mat
What non-garmin brand watches will.work with the R10? Is there a short list of products?
There are plenty that I use with the R10. They don’t integrate but you can use them at the same time and they’re amazing. Check this out below and use promo code DAVID10 for discount

Hey Greg, can you send me a picture of your setup on Instagram so I can trouble shoot with you 👍🏼
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Ill DM you Some pics on instagram in the morning. Im over the US so its about 10pm here. You da MAN!
@@gregmurtha428 no worries mate 👍🏼
Hey David, will this work in my garage? I measured and have the required space to fit. 6-7 feet behind and 8 feet in front.
Yes definitely. I have about the same room in my garage also
Thanks for the video!
You have about 2 foot either side of the unit
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Thank you!
I will be using my R10 exclusively on the driving range, hence hitting range balls only. That said is the Awesome Golf software better for my needs than the software that comes with the R10?
Absolutely
it will be nice if you can do a video of your latest clubs, i can relate to your speed just where i live no chance of getting custom fit
I’ve done a 2022 WITB 😊 check that out
What kind of tee setup are you using?
It’s called a Tee Claw 👍🏼
What net are you using? I get nervous hitting wedges from 7-8 ft away..
I’ve got the SPORNIA spg7
If using Garmin app, do you still need to put in fake elevation etc or do these steps negate that need? Thanks!
It's getting a lot better. I think the distances if you use your current location are close. best way to check is record your shots on course then on the r10. But actually use measured data from the course, not just a personal calculation including rollout etc
Just got mine what is good spin rate and ball speed , club speed for a 59 year old in your opinion
That’s a tough one to answer as everything is so subjective. I wouldn’t even want to guess really as I could be very wrong. Check it out with a coach though and they will tell you
I can get my Garmin Approach R10 to connect to the Awesome Golf App. It connected fine to the Garmin app. I double checked everything. Any ideas?
Should be fine. Mine never has an issue. I connect mine through Awesome golf
Great video David! How do you feel about the accuracy of the spin and face/path numbers. Do you feel like they have improved as the R10 sees more firmware updates? Is it on par with the flightscope Mevo+?
I did a comparison with GC quad and they’re very comparable even to that. So to me they’re very accurate 😊
Thank you David!
@@davidmaxfieldgolf do you feel like the Titleist RCT ball can even better improve the accuracy with the R10?
@@chadbeuoy7165 I’m not 100% sure as I haven’t tried but for me it give accurate numbers anyway so there’s no need to spend $100aud on balls that don’t last long in the hitting net 😊
@@chadbeuoy7165 no worries 😊
What is the best watch to go with the garmin r10
well they don't specifically talk to each other but the Garmin Golf watch range
@@davidmaxfieldgolf ok thank you 😊
Excellent video mate - which model Spornia net are you using?
Thanks Barry, I have the spg-7
And which size Spornia mat? - cheers
@@barrycurtin I got the D2 😊
I’d like to use it for driving range numbers but not anymore indoor fairway game, can i still get the driving range function without subscribing
Yes you can 👍🏼
Hi David, quick question. How much did you get your Garmin R10 for???
They retail in Aus $879
100% agree with this
Superb..so helpfull
Thank you 🙏
How does that Spornia net do from 7-8 ft away with catching balls that are mishit or off the hosel? I am thinking about going with this same setup in my garage, but needing to be 8 ft from the net with the R10 seems risky.
Get the spg-8 that’s a lot bigger. I’ve just received one of those and I’m about to do a review on that. It’s a lot safer in that aspect
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I've considered that too, but don't think I have enough room for it.
@@adamhurley2406 the spg 7 has side nets available that you can get which would also fix the issue
Does this read hitting big hooks and slices? Seems like a majority of shots go semi-straight but I assume about all the simulators work that way
It can as long as there is enough room in front of the unit. At least 10 feet
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I’m setting mine up tonight. 10 feet from my net seems pretty risky. Definitely don’t want to miss the net! Thanks, enjoy your content.
@@davidbartsch255 you’ll be surprised. Will definitely teach you not to miss haha 😂
@@davidmaxfieldgolf was it in your video that i've heard you mention that you feel like the numbers are more accurate in awesome golf? Or what program are you using? I've only hit a few balls into the garmin test range. looking to get a paid subscription
Been in between the r10 and mevo +, would you say the mevo + is worth the extra money?
Also I see a lot of people talking about it missing shots and falling asleep frequently, are these things you ever experience?
I don’t think at this stage the Mevo plus is worth the extra money. In terms of the sleep mode that’s just people not updating the unit on a desktop. Easy fix really
Hey mate great stuff! Are you elevating your R10 to the same height as the tee when using Driver? Or is the R10 on the same level as the mat with all clubs?
Same level as with all the other clubs. Same level as the mat
@@davidmaxfieldgolf so the bottom of the tripod legs are at the same level at the top surface of the mat correct?
David where did you get your mat?
Spornia Aus 😁
What is that tee contraption you are using?
It’s called Tee Claw 😊
You can do that quite easily, just a difference of adding a fade swing and the club path will change 😊
I like my Garmin R10 but I am not good at golf to this degree. I would say what you are looking for is only in the 10k+ monitors. If you change your swing will the numbers change on the Garmin sure but the accuracy is not to this level.
From Garmin website
Radar Accuracy
Measured by Radar
Club head speed accuracy: +/- 3 mph
Ball speed accuracy: +/- 1 mph
Launch angle accuracy: +/- 1 degree
Launch direction accuracy: +/- 1 degree
Calculated by Algorithm
Club face angle accuracy: +/- 2 degrees
Apex height accuracy: +/- 5 feet
Carry distance accuracy: +/- 5 yards
@@davidbryan3347 all launch monitors will have similar parameters. None of them are 100% accurate
im a high handicap golfer and it 100% helped me with face and path. feel vs real. it's easy to make what feel like major changes and see the data to see if you actually changed the face, or what helped me more was path. changed my game off the tee. i think it gives enough feedback to make changes for sure. I love it.
Great video
Thank you mate 😊
You say 6feet behind the Ball other people say 8feet is it okay if i do it 6 or 8 feet away or is 6 the best set up ?
Anywhere from 6-8feet works for me 👍🏼
Hi David. I found the garmin golf app really inaccurate on the range setup properly with alignment sticks and levels hence trying Awesome golf.
Tried setting e6 up to get to the range but too difficult.
For now I am only really interested in the range to get club/ball data.
2 questions:
@@juanbotha6634 the Garmin app is short in my opinion. You can adjust it by increasing the elevation in weather conditions
