Hi there, recently got this monitor and I notice that when I try to set the peak nits via the Windows 11 HDR calibration, it seems to cap out at around 490 nits, despite windows stating the maximum peak brightness is 1,316. Do you know why windows won't allow it to go higher? I tested the same HDR calibration on a Samsung G80SD and had no issues hitting 1000 nits on that, which is obviously a dimmer display. I tried on all of the HDR modes (which visually are changing NOTHING when I swap them too), and get the same result.
That will be related to the EDID info being sent from the monitor and how it differentiates between its true black 400 mode and the other modes. See our review for testing of each mode to see how they’re different in practice. I’d prob skip there windows calibration for now, it doesn’t make a huge difference anyway. Although check you’re on the latest monitor firmwarw first too?
@ Both monitors are excellent, but I ultimately chose the UCDM. In a dark room, the difference in black levels between the two is pretty minor-you’d only notice it with them side by side. What really sets the UCDM apart for me is the shadow detail. It looks noticeably better right out of the box, with no crushed blacks, and it gives darker scenes more depth and clarity. That said, I think you could likely achieve similar shadow detail on the UCDP with some careful calibration. The glossy finish on the UCDM also gives colors a vibrant, “wow” factor, especially in HDR. Plus, it’s still on sale on Amazon. If you don’t mind playing in the dark or a well dim room, I’d personally go with the UCDM. Playing in a lit room can work too, but the black levels can raise quite a bit.
@@ValRuca I was seriously tempted to order from Newegg, but decided just to wait for the monitor to come in stock at Scan UK, just in case there were any issues and I needed to return it.
Mine arrived today, going through the settings now. The "screen saver" and "auto logo brightness" only seem to lower overall max brightness (by quite a lot on the Screen Saver setting) i'm leaning towards leaving them off since image retention is supposed to be addressed by pixel cleaning and the Screen Move which i don't mind having on. Plus this thing has a 3 year warranty covering burn in etc.
@@xellestar yeah, I turned off screen saver as it dimmed the image quite a lot. I left auto logo brightness on as its effect is less pronounced. Overall I'm really liking the monitor - it was worth the wait.
@@ijmcd curious do you see much difference switching between Gaming HDR / Cinema HDR / Console HDR / DisplayHDR? It's hard to tell with DisplayHDR because when you change to/from it the monitor blacks out for 5-10 seconds which is annoying. But toggling the other 3 while in a game it didn't seem to change anything, not even a little.
Hi when will tft icc profile will be up? Also no one seems to talk about it but is the stock cable (dp) provided by asus is good enough or its better to buy other cable?
I have weird issue when toggle HDR on which the near black in some scenarios will be raised, it is happening in most dark games, it is not vrr flicker because I tried to turn off G-Sync and it is still happening, can you please check that? I have a video I uploaded on reddit showing what I'm talking about.
Would you know if there be any cheaper WOLED variants this year? I was reading a lot about cheaper QD OLED 165hz variants comming out in September, AOC AG326UD and MSI 321UP which come at great pricing, for example msrp for aoc one is 850$. Are there any cheaper WOLED variants in the making, with lover refresh rates like these? I somehow always prefered LG panels, find them softer and more pleasant for the eye, but here in CZ, LG 32gs95ue is 1500€ and ASUS PG32UCDP is 1650€.
I returned the UCDM due to lack of brightness. Is this one any better in terms of overall brightness? Like snow maps and sunny days? I really want to try one but if it’s almost the same as the UCDM than I probably will wait to see what 2025 brings.
@LexLutha ok do you remember which HDR mode you used for that on the UCDM, and was it before or after they did the firmware update to offer the brightness boost in HDR?
@LexLutha ok thanks. You’d find the P model brighter then generally as the old Console mode on the M model before they updated the firmware was quite dark in high APL scenes like many “peak 1000” modes on QDOLED panels. tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-oled-monitors
TFT Central, I used your settings guide for the PG27AQDM, and they worked wonders. Now, I went and purchased this monitor because I couldn't pass on the $300 off deal. My question is, do you recommend updating the firmware, or is there not one yet, considering this monitor is fairly new for Asus. Thank you.
I order the monitor a week ago. Should I bump up the saturation from 50% and if so should I do so from the OSD or from the Nvidia control panel? It’s justs that in comparison with the PG32UCDM it seems like it lucks some vibrant because of the panel type.
The Screen Saver setting seems to dim the edges of the screen immediately when enabled. Tested this in games, video, and even on the desktop. Anyone else see similar? I’m on the 103 firmware fyi

I just got this monitor but it's only displaying in 1920x1080 480Hz connected to my new PC using an 8K DP cable and when I connect it to my Xbox Series X via HDMI my Xbox says this monitor isn't 4K compatible. I'm trying to update the firmware using the USB-A to USB-B cable but I keep getting the fail message, close and retry... Anyone else having this issue? I assumed for $1300 it would work in 4K out of the box but it's not looking that way.
You’d need to disable the frame rate boost setting in the OSD menu, or via the dedicated pressable button on the monitor. That’s what switches it to 1080p 480Hz mode
@tftcentral thanks!! ! I figured it out, but now the screen keeps flickering on and off when gaming on my Xbox Series X using an elgato HD60X to stream with. Never experienced this monitor flickering with my other 2 ASUS monitors (PG27AQDM), only THIS one. Some on reddit were saying to turn on/off VRR, but that seemed to only make it worse. It seems to be most stable at 1080p 60Hz refresh rate right now, which is crazy considering it's a 4K 240Hz monitor and that's what I wanted to game at.
@MVRKOFFCL well the max the monitor would support from a console would be 4K 120Hz but if it’s flickering on and off that usually points to the cable. Have you got another you can try? It needs to be a proper high speed HDMI 2.1 certified cable
@MVRKOFFCL id try another one if you can. Also check how it behaves if you connect straight from Xbox to the monitor without the stream device in between
@@tftcentral I tried a new cable still the same problem does it do it for you when ever you open any full screen app/game it blacks out for 3 seconds and another thing is the camera on the monitor on by default or do you have to turn it on? and do you use gsync
Is this only happening when you open a full screen game and alt+tab out of it? Or does this happen if you open something basic like excel full screen, or chrome?!
@GoofyGamerProductions ok I’m with you now. That’s an NVIDIA and Windows issue with how they handle displays that use DSC, like most top end displays do. I believe it’s somewhat improved in a very recent windows 11 build, you’d have to look around though for details. Only way to help avoid it other than that is to play games in full screen windowed mode I believe
Oled anti flicker mode is only available if you have adaptive sync VRR enabled and active. In terms of black outs , that’s normally caused by the cable. I’d try another one, of a high quality
I've saved up to this monitor a few months now, and i'll get it when i get my next salary.
