And if i want to use HDR mode, i turn this "on" in alienware monitor settings and in windows 11 i enable the HDR mode or not? I'm a bit confused right now about HDR mode. Thanks in advance.
You don’t need to change anything on the monitor, that will auto switch between SDR and HDR mode depending on the input signal it detects. So you only need to enable and disable it in windows when you want to view actual HDR content. For some games, that can also trigger HDR mode automatically without you needing to activate it in windows too
Love mine! However, call of duty looks less vibrant colors wise compared to my QLED Samsung tv from 2018. My system is an Xbox series x. I have brightness at 100%. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!! Thank you! I’m assuming that I will be in HDR the entire time on Xbox - with settings at 4k & 120hz..
.The HDR modes, including the peak 1000 mode are all darker than they should be really and so that’s likely what you’re seeing I expect. There’s no easy way to fix that for an Xbox but you could maybe try the true black 400 mode instead of peak 1000 as it can look slightly brighter in some situations Some background here tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-oled-monitors

These are fine for FPS games too. Some people like to increase colour saturation for gaming so maybe stick with the custom colour mode as opposed to sRGB for the full wide gamut

@Wesleyy-87 the screen will remember its settings in both SDR and HDR mode independently. So yes you could do as you described. Then when you’ve finished with the windows HDR tool, just disable HDR and the screen will move back to the SDR mode you’d configured

Hey. Question. I noticed when turning on my HDR that some of the blacks become a little like dark grey which is annoying since i feel like blacks are “blacker” when using SDR. Any idea how I can fix this? Or is this how HDR is supposed to work
No that’s not how it’s supposed to be. But when you are observing blacks in HDR mode do you mean for SDR content like desktop patterns etc, or actual HDR content?
@Darebi ok that could just be the way HDR mode is handling SDR. Fairly common. See what blacks look like in actual HDR content, but i expect they’ll be fine. Best to only enable HDR mode when you are viewing actual HDR content
Hello 🙂 I got the aw2725df , should i go with the same settings than this one for hdr gaming on ps5 ? Like hdr Peak 1000 or true black colors and thats all ? Thx for the content 👌
Each mode is independent so whatever you select in SDR mode won’t impact how the screen behaves in HDR mode. But it will remember what you had it set as when you move back to SDR again

Hope someone can help me. Got this monitor a week ago and i followed all the instrucions here. Im still having two major problem with this monitor and i dont know how to fix it. The HDR mode have colors so damn washed out vs sdr mode and even this guide didnt change this thing. Also this monitor (at least mine) suffer with a real bad flickering while HDR ON, GSYNC enabled. This monitor is rated as the best one to get but its insane how bad it is on this two side. Is there some fix ?? Im goin crazy.
I imagine the issue with HDR looking washed out is when you are running in HDR mode and viewing SDR content and the windows desktop? That’s very normal and to be expected as windows is, amongst other things, reducing the colour space. When you view actual, real HDR content it should be fine? Oled VRR flickering is also an inherent problem with the technology and all OLED panels can suffer from it. Setting frame rate caps in games could help. Or simply disable Gsync and use vsync to entirely eliminate it
@@tftcentral Nope im talking about hdr content like playing a videogame as lost ark or stuff like that. The definition and color are great vs an ips panel but if i turn off hdr colors become more brilliant and vivid even in videogames and thats sad; Should i try something? Thx for the advice ill try to turn off g sync and see if the problem persist. If it persist, should i ask for a replecament?
@Kaylex_VII that could vary by game and is probably down to how the content is mastered. Also make sure the game actually supports proper HDR and is enabled fully. In SDR mode with wide gamut active, the content will be “stretched” to the wide colour gamut regardless of the gamut of the content and what it’s supposed to be. Whereas in HDR mode it will auto map to the gamut of the content. If the game is only mastered in SDR or a small colour space, it will operate in that and therefore look less vivid and saturated than the “stretched” SDR mode would. If the game is not a true HDR game or just has a “fake HDR” or “auto HDR” type operation then it’s very likely the content is actually mastered in a smaller colour space, and therefore that’s what you’re seeing. Nothing to do with the monitor as such, just the way the OS and content are handling the different modes
thanks , i was waiting for this. i come here everytime i get a new monitor to follow the recommended settings for my last 3 monitors.

Might be a dummy question, but for sdr mode i turn HDR "off" in the alienware monitor settings and in Windows 11, right?
And if i want to use HDR mode, i turn this "on" in alienware monitor settings and in windows 11 i enable the HDR mode or not? I'm a bit confused right now about HDR mode. Thanks in advance.
You don’t need to change anything on the monitor, that will auto switch between SDR and HDR mode depending on the input signal it detects. So you only need to enable and disable it in windows when you want to view actual HDR content. For some games, that can also trigger HDR mode automatically without you needing to activate it in windows too
Im getting this monitor for my xbox series x, what does turning on console mode do?
Would the best settings specifically for an xbox
These settings are still fine for a console. Console mode I believe just changes the monitor EDID to ensure 4K 120Hz is detected properly
Thanks for the vid. I was pretty much there but this helped. For consoles p5s , would you use the console mode with source tone mapping on ?
Yes that’s probably a good bet
Iv been using the True Black 400 mode. Plenty bright enough for me as I only have time to game at night
There’s no easy way to fix that for an Xbox but you could maybe try the true black 400 mode instead of peak 1000 as it can look slightly brighter in some situations
Some background here tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-oled-monitors
Are these still the BEST SETTINGS? I just got this monitor and followed all of your instructions
Yep. Only further addition would be if you wanted to consider forcing a brighter HDR experience using the Dolby vision mode as described here
tftcentral.co.uk/articles/hdr-brightness-investigation-and-how-to-get-a-brighter-hdr-experience-on-the-dell-alienware-aw3225qf
Does the Preset Mode in the OSD affect the picture in HDR mode or it only changes how SDR content will be displayed?
No it doesn’t impact HDR mode
If I’m using a PS5 should I switch Dolby Vision off or it doesn’t really matter?
The PS5 doesn’t support DV so I’d leave that turned off to avoid conflicts
What do you recommend for playing FPS games like Warzone. Mine is hooked to my PC and it won't let me change anything and says "Currently processing HDR content. I can't seem to turn smart HDR oiff
That will be a pc display setting as opposed to anything on the monitor
Could you please do the PG32UCDM 🙏
Is there a similar video for the aw2725df? or is the same anyways
No we don’t have one for that screen I’m afraid but you can find our recommended settings and calibrated ICC profile in the database on our site 😀
What connection would I need to use a speaker for this monitor?
Either a headphone jack from your motherboard or if your on console you can get creative like me and use your secondary controllers audio jack to plug your speakers into 😂 I plugged my dualshock 5 into the USB c in the front of the monitor and plugged the audio jack in lol bam surround sound.
@@alexanderivarson856 haha. Well I just plugged it into my ps5 usb and It worked perfectly
What’s the best settings for fps games ?
These are fine for FPS games too. Some people like to increase colour saturation for gaming so maybe stick with the custom colour mode as opposed to sRGB for the full wide gamut
Thanks man !
Can i use these settings for aw2725df?
some of the general rules and settings, yes. But the brightness and RGB settings would be different. We have some recommended settings and a calibrated ICC profile for the AW2725DF in our database here though if that helps
tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc-profiles-and-monitor-calibration-settings-database
Do we need to use the windows 11 hdr calibration app?
Yes worth running through as well
Thank you! Can I also set this up in display manager? So turn off hdr. Set it up like you. Then hdr on. En calibrate hdr in windows?
Yes that would be fine. But only enable HDR when you’re going to view actual HDR content after that 😀
@@tftcentral yes I know! I always turn it on in game. In display manager I can’t find creator mode so that’s weird. So the best thing is: turn on pc - turn off hdr - go in the on screen display - set it up like you - turn hdr on in windows and calibrate the sceen. That’s the right way to do it?
@Wesleyy-87 the screen will remember its settings in both SDR and HDR mode independently. So yes you could do as you described. Then when you’ve finished with the windows HDR tool, just disable HDR and the screen will move back to the SDR mode you’d configured
@@tftcentral great! I will do just that! Isn’t it to dark when you use only around 30 brightness? In windows I mean.
@Wesleyy-87 feel free to adjust that to your preference depending on your ambient light conditions etc
Does it have internal speakers? How are you supposed to get sound from it? Connect it to a sound bar?
No internal speakers but it has eARC sound pass through to a Soundbar. Or you can use the headphone connection
@@tftcentral it has a headphone jack?
@octoman511 ah sorry no this one doesn’t. Which is rare!
I had this monitor 2 months ago and it was incredibly dim in HDR 1000. Any suggestions to what I may have done wrong?
This explains the situation with many of the new QD OLED monitors
tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-oled-monitors
Will these settings work for my ultra wide dwf?
No I’m afraid not.
So no option to change colour temp in hdr mode on this one either ?
No afraid not
Have you dealt with white spots on the screen? Or know how to clean it without messing it up?
not something we've experienced
@@tftcentral this might be a dumb question I got the one with spots exchanged. And I got a new one should I wipe up or anything like that when I take off that sticky screen stuff it comes with?
@oscarleiva470 doubt it needs it
How to connect speaker to this monitor, there is no aux or 3.5port
It can handle HDMI eARC if your speaker system has that? Or it’s also got a headphone jack output
The box comes with a color report, is that important to setting up your colors
that’s confirming the factory calibration applicable in the creator sRGB and DcI-P3 modes
Where change Hz?
My monitor came with a Calibration Factory Report Sheet. Does it mean I don't need to calibrate it?
Up to you, but those calibrations only apply in certain preset modes (the Creator modes) and you may still want to try some of the other settings included in this video
Hey.
@@tftcentral SDR desktop content
@Darebi ok that could just be the way HDR mode is handling SDR. Fairly common. See what blacks look like in actual HDR content, but i expect they’ll be fine. Best to only enable HDR mode when you are viewing actual HDR content
What are your settings for ps5
Same as these
Hello 🙂 I got the aw2725df , should i go with the same settings than this one for hdr gaming on ps5 ? Like hdr Peak 1000 or true black colors and thats all ? Thx for the content 👌
We expect peak 1000 mode would give you the better performance for true HDR content from a PS5 but try both to see which you prefer
@@tftcentral ok , the standard, creator , game 1 etc... are only for sdr and have no incidence on HDR settings ? Thx 🙏
@yvory1600 correct
@@tftcentral thanks a lot
@@tftcentralI’m using hdr peak 1000 but on some games it looks too dim like horizon forbidden west
Weirdly enough, on my AW3225QF (arrived yesterday!) I can't turn of Dolby Vision. 🤔😔
-> connected via DisplayPort
You’d need to update to the latest firmware from their site. It was added recently as an option
@@tftcentralThank you! 😍
Does the monitor save the settings between sdr and hdr settings in the osd? Every time I turn HDR off or on in windows the settings stay the same.
Each mode is independent so whatever you select in SDR mode won’t impact how the screen behaves in HDR mode. But it will remember what you had it set as when you move back to SDR again
@@tftcentral interesting. When I’m in HDR mode and try to change settings the screen shows a message saying it’s processing hdr content. It doesn’t even allow me to change settings in HDR
@titanplaya29 no there’s not much you can change in there anyway only the HDR mode
Anyone know to turn off hdr to actually change the settings?
Disable it in windows display settings. You should only enable that when you’re going to view actual HDR content
does this apply to AW2725DF ?
No. But we have recommended settings and a calibrated profile for that one in the database on our main site
Is there going to be a settings guide for the aw2725df
Not sure if we will have chance for that one. We do have best settings and a calibrated icc profile available though already in our database on the main site 😀
@@tftcentral Just grabbed it from the site and inputed the settings that go with it, thank you very much. :)
what is the very latest firmware for this please ? i am seeing m2b105 ?
That’s the one. Always up to date on their website
@@tftcentral thank you reply, i am also having faded colors on my new monitor just doesn't seem very bright or colorful any advice please
@Pensioner1203 are you running with HDR enabled all the time in windows?
Hey @tftcentral WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE A "BEST SETTINGS" video about the ASUS PG32UCDM, AND WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET A "ADVANCED ICC" COLOR PROFILE FOR HDR FOR THE PG32UCDM? THE ONLY ICC PROFILE FOR PATREONS RIGHT NOW IS THE "SDR" ICC PROFILE.
Probably as soon as you stop messaging in ALL CAPS 😀 we hope to have a best settings for that screen at some point soon but creating profiles for HDR mode isn’t possible I’m afraid, and you wouldn’t really need them in the same way you would for SDR
Turn off your caps lock.
What about MacOS? Thanks!
Should be same settings for the monitor really but it’s not something we’ve tested I’m afraid
Can we get the best setting guide for the AW2725DF?
No plans at the moment to do one of those but the best settings and calibrated ICC profile are available in our database on the main site which will hopefully help 😀

Do any of these 32” OLEDs have option to play at a 24” size like on the 360HZ ASUS IPS?
Nope
i think Asus does. well at least their LG panel will have it on the 4k 240hz / 1080p 480hz UCDP model
You can turn off scaling... and map a lower res to native pixels, yes
@@mildmannered1086yeah I know I can do that with my GPU, I was just curious if the monitor has the quick toggle feature other monitors have.
@@mz1929I didn’t see that would be a possibility in the ASUS W-OLED. Mind sharing where you saw?
Nothing to do with the monitor as such, just the way the OS and content are handling the different modes
how to enable g-sync?
u can do that in nvidia control panel
