    Many thanks. I've made all my monitor purchases over the last 12ish+ years based on your website. It was always tft central and the PSU guy who now works for corsair that helped the most. (Most other components are easier to research). So glad your still around and please keep doing what your doing. Things are getting exciting in this tech space.

    A quick note about "Screen saver" setting. With the MCM104 FW it now turns on the CPC ( the vignette effect ), not sure why did Asus change that thing, but you might want to add a sticky comment or annotation if possible, as this setting will now meaningfully change screen brightness even during normal use.

    Hey, I really appreciate your attention to detail in these videos, especially regarding perfecting the monitors with settings. Since it's so hard to choose, I wanted to ask you: between this and the LG, which do you think would be better for SDR gaming? I know this one has higher brightness, but outside of that do you feel it has any advantages? I read elsewhere that the ASUS has better color accuracy out of the box, but I don't know if that's true any more after all of these firmware updates.

    Asus gaming HDR seems to act like dynamic tone mapping when using Windows HDR calibration tool. Asus Console HDR looks like HGIG which seems to correspond to accurate values on the calibration tool. Now my monitor behaves like my LG OLED TVS and looks amazing. The monitor is amazing when set up properly. So use Console HDR setting before the Windows HDR calibration tool.

      The screen will automatically go to sleep when the pc is off or goes to sleep itself. You shouldn’t need to press anything on the screen for that. If you turn it off manually by it’s power button then you will have to power it back on again manually when you want to use it
      If you enable HDR in windows then the screen enters HDR mode automatically where most of the settings change and are unavailable. Only enable HDR in windows when you want to use HDR content!

    • @Drew9140
      @Drew9140 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No it doesn’t. OLED panels would get extremely hot if you ran a full white image at max brightness, so they need to lower their brightness. The unified brightness setting exists to lower the peak brightness down (I think it’s 250 nits at 100%) so the ABL never kicks in. This allows a small white square to be the same brightness as a full white screen which is signified in the name “unified brightness”. Blacks will still be black, so the screen is still gaining the amazing contrast of an OLED.

    Thanks for showing the settings! I have one question though and hope you're willing to read this:
    I just bought the LG version and I'm planning to switch it for this Asus one because mine is very dark (even in a dark room) and any color preset other than the default and reader mode forces smart energy saving on which reduces image quality because it constantly dims if the image isn't a really dark scenario.
    The uniformity is also pretty bad with the corners of a white screen turning yellowish
    So I've read about this monitor and it should not only be brighter and have beter uniformity but looking at your video I should also be able to turn off any automatic dimming while turning the monitor as bright as I want without locking out any color presets, can you confirm this?
    You might see this comment in other places too... Thank you in advance.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can avoid any dimming caused by the ABL if you use the uniform brightness mode on the Asus and that is also able to get a bit brighter than the LG screen too. There’s still a limit of how bright the panel can go, so whether or not that’s sufficient for you really depends what you’re used to and using already

    Could you please comment on an alt tabbing experience (from Fullscreen games)? Dual monitors. My pg27aqn WAS HORRIBLE. Took like 4-5 seconds to tab out, monitor would lose signal like 1-2 times during the tab out as well...

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a lot of different things at play with something like this. The usual recommendation is to run games in borderless windowed mode which should make this instant and avoid problems :)
      It's very hard to account for different situations and give a clear answer here, but on a single monitor setup there's instant change as long as you're switching between SDR desktop and SDR game, or HDR desktop and HDR game. if you have an HDR toggle enabled in a game, and alt+Tab to desktop, there's about a 3 second delay as the screen is having to switch between SDR and HDR modes - the same could be said for any monitor.
      The other thing which seems to cause some delay on this screen and we believe others is if DSC is being used, and I believe that's more down to the graphics card (NVIDIA) than any individual monitor. for instance running SDR desktop at 8-bit allows instant Alt+tab, but if you run 10-bit and DSC is then being used, there's about a 3 second delay when switching. not down to the monitor though i don't believe.
      prob simplest to use borderless windowed mode and avoid this anyway :)

    • @albertkam191
      @albertkam191 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tftcentral I see. My friend has the LG OLED version of this monitor, and his alt tabbing experience is superb and instant in any case (from Fullscreen). He is not using HDR, but he is using 10-bit color as well. He has an rtx4080.
      When I was researching how to fix my issue, I did read about DSC but that means there's simply nothing you can do unfortunately... And it would make sense that DSC would kick in for 360hz 1440p 10-bit due to it literally being at the very edge of the display port bandwidth.
      Just simply using borderless isn't an option in all games sadly. Most of the casual games are fine, but some of the competitive ones like valorant, CSGO, you always want to have them in Fullscreen.

      That will be from early adopters and reviews based on the original shipped firmware, which did have some problems with colour gamut in HDR mode. It only delivered around 80% sRGB coverage when viewing SDR content and Windows desktop, so colours looked dull and muted. HDR colour gamut was actually fine, but it was immediately obvious as a problem when you enable HDR. Asus released a new firmware last week to address this and it's now much better. I wasnt 100% sure about it at 1st bc all the reviews said the screen was to dark because of of the oled panel but based on my experience the screen brightness does not translate to in game brightness if that makes sense, like my monitor screen brightness is set to 60 which is pretty dim but in game i have no dark zones so those sweats wearing black skins and hiding in dark corners i can still see (except warzone). The only game that i have issues with is warzone, for some reason warzone changes my monitors HDR settings so when im outside and i look into a building or dark areas, those dark areas are really dark but honestly feel like its just my in game settings. @tftcentral  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We’ll both really. It entirely depends if the game or content is HDR or not. If it supports HDR, enable that in windows before you start playing, and then you will have already configured the screens HDR mode like in this video. If it doesn’t support HDR, leave windows HDR mode turned off, which will leave the screen in SDR mode, again configured to the settings in the video. Hope that helps

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @lucashoskins5385 that really depends on if the game is mastered in wide gamut or not. A lot of people prefer the more vivid and saturated appearance of the wide gamut mode anyway for gaming so you’d probably want to use that mode I think. Try both and see which you prefer
      I personally wouldn’t use Auto HDR mode, that tries to fake a conversion for SDR content to HDR. I’d rather play the content as it’s intended and if it’s not an HDR game, leave it in SDR. I’d probably just enable HDR mode when you’re going to view proper HDR content

When I shut down the pc I didn't turn the monitor off during the shutdown process as I normally do, instead I waited until the pc was completely off then the monitor shows "no signal" message, but it wouldn't turn off. Pressing the power off button did nothing, it didn't bring up the menu or anything. However I could press the other buttons to bring up the main menu but again no way to turn it off. It really depends how bright you want to make the screen. Uniform brightness will keep the brightness consistent regardless of the content and APL which is good, but your max available brightness would be a bit lower. This is assuming you’re gaming in SDR mode. If you’re using HDR mode then that setting isn’t used anyway

      Shadow Boost: OFF (включение функции ухудшает отклик что приводит к увеличению размытия)
      Насыщенность цвета: 60 (чтобы лучше видеть противников в играх с тусклой графикой типа Hunt Showdown)

      Depends on your preference and desire for accuracy. Some people prefer to just use wide gamut mode all the time, esp if mainly gaming and watching movies where you can enjoy the more vivid and saturated colours. If you want higher level of accuracy for SDR content, which is mastered in the sRGB colour space, or are doing any colour critical work in that space, you’d switch to the sRGB mode to emulate that smaller colour space

    • @191.
      @191. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah.. and it's not just the OSD..
      It's the sub-pixel layout. It's different than on other screens and it makes it look pretty blurry. To me, it feels like a 27" full HD monitor I had.
      Reading text feels pretty weird, so I wouldn't be surprised about the headache really..
      I understand it's an OLED.. And boooy, does it ever look beautiful in-game?!? But having, effectively, a full HD panel for well over a thousand euros is kinda ridiculous.
      The response times are AMAZING though!
      I was playing Pac-Man the other day and even though it was running just at 60 FPS, it looked awesome! Especially with the blacks!
      Oh, yeah.. and another thing I noticed is, it feels like it "highlights" low resolution/badly compressed textures as it looks even worse it otherwise would on a traditional sub-pixel layout. But that might just be me..
      Honestly, I'm thinking about returning it..

    Just want to thank you for this! As somebody that doesn't have a calibrator this will come in handy when mine arrives later in the month.
    As somebody that ignorant I have a few questions:
    1) Is the 120 nits just based on preference? I'm guessing 120-150-200 is just based on the lighting in your environment
    2) For gaming, movies and just general social media consumption. Which is "better" to use, SRGB or wide gamut and why?
    3) As as early preview....does this monitor get a thumbs up from you guys for PC users? (shame about the HDMI 2.0)

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the brightness level is down to preference. Really just set that at what you feel is comfortable for your environment and individual preference
      Try both modes but for accuracy sRGB mode would be better, as that kind of content is mastered in that colour space (SDR). But many people just prefer the more vivid and colourful appearance of running in the wide gamut DCI-P3 mode for things like games and movies, esp if they’re not bothered about colour critical work
      Yes it does. Similar OLED limitations as the LG model (text, costing, image retention risks) but performs better in several areas than that model

      Try using the wide colour gamut setting instead of sRGB. but ultimately if you’ve found other settings you personally prefer, stick to those 😀

    • @kuzen75
      @kuzen75 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for the best input lag and response time you should not change any presets, well if you dont care much about input lag and respons times go ahead and change it up. all advertised specs are on the preset value.. i honestly tweak it too for the better image quality and with monitors like this its not a big deal its still performs fast enough, if you tweak settings on the nvdia control panel vibrantcy or something you have much better colours i use 80% its default on 50% and it should keep your monitor specs on default speeds

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @kuzen75 this is such bad advice. Changing settings on the monitor like this will not impact response times or input lag. I’m not really sure why you’d think it would. It will impact colour, brightness, gamma etc but that’s exactly the point 😀 for what it’s worth, our testing of both response times and lag in our written review were after calibration, and you can see that there really is nothing to worry about when it comes to response time and lag 😀

      @@tftcentral yes like i said its not a big deall, the manufacturers do everything to get fastest responses so they put Presets so you dont have to worry for best settings.. there was a Reddit Post about this i red, it made sense i am in no way competition for guys who knows this stuff but the important part was just that manufacturors advertise those response time without saying how to reach those cause settings that changed from the let us say FPS mode changes the pixels responses on specific colours.. so thats why they have to proof there advertisement as 1ms response time and fast input lags are legit otherwise they cannot advertise it like that... most of the time actually its not that accurate i have seen on different models and revisions but still like i said its a really none to minimal difference that we wouldnt feel its just about the placebo effect too if you know you are faster you will be faster :) but thanks for your answer this will enlight people up i just tried to help with what i know

    please answer whether there will be an update of the article about the monitor AOC AGON Pro AG274QXM
    I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also interested in the settings in the AMD video driver, your calibrations and profile for the limited RGB mode? I realized that the monitor cannot switch to full mode, which is obvious for the PC and for the Xbox console? I didn’t see in your article on local dimming, in standard mode and in hdr, turn it on or not? It seems to me that in the standard, if you turn on dimming, then the colors turn blue, in the TV setup mode on xbox you can see a lot and understand about the monitor’s operation, please try this it clarifies a lot of the utility. The data exchange setting is also hidden near the monitor. You can get to it by rewinding up in addition, the part where the logo is turned on

      @JohnnyBg2905 that indicates it’s a problem with how Gsync is configured and working then. In NVIDIA control panel under the Gsync section try selecting the “active for full screen and windowed mode” option, then underneath that you’d also need to tick the box to “activate for this display”. Once fully enabled that counter should change, although only on occasions you’re using VRR in a compatible game etc
