Not an expert here, just sometimes have similar issues. Make sure you have proper rest, don't overtrain and gradually increase volume, have a good night sleep. These things are essential. Drink plenty of water and eat (at least) before your harder efforts. I love fasted runs in the morning, but before longer runs or hill/tempo sessions I try to get something (like banana) into my stomach. Also, I experimented with using gels during the workout or drinking pre-workout supplements. It def helped me to maximize my potential during the workout. @@EimantasMiksys thank you for all your advice! I definitely can see areas where I should improve on (like with reassessing my training so that it’s not too much for me) and I will definitely start experimenting with gels during my sessions. Thanks again!! Xx
I'm in a similar situation. I try to run 4 miles 4-5 times a week, and want to ad in some strength training. The problem I run into is that I work about 63-65 hours a week and have to run at the end of the work days. I eat very healthy for work, throughout the day, but don't know if I am overdoing the calories or not enough. I think it is important to eliminate as much sugar as possible though. I have noticed weight loss since doing that myself.Nick seems to eat oatmeal alot and that seems like great healthy food if you can flavor it to enjoy it more. It fills you while giving you good energy. Good luck!
I'm not a nutritionist but if you're lifting and running I would suggest getting in as many grams of protein per day as pounds you weigh. 190lbs = 190 grams of protein per day across 4-5 meals. Similar amount of carbs and not too much fat - but healthy fats are still essential especially for appetite. Plenty of apps to help track your macros so I'd suggest that even for a month to gauge where you're at and weigh yourself weekly - if you're packing on the lbs eat less carbs or fat, if you're losing weight and feel like crap slowly increase your macros.
I'm just gonna be honest here - I began my hybrid routine one year ago because I had really bad self-esteem about my self image. Flash forward to now and life has totally changed for me, I would highly recommend it. The only thing I don't like about it is how I'm not as efficient as Nick, and I actually do feel that I spend more time overall. Regardless, I know that this time spent will buy me a crap ton of extra life time later on by bolstering muscle mass and cardio strength. Oh yeah and leg days become extremely important. Bodyweight calisthenics are also a great alternative for weights (pull), and aside from aesthetics I find push exercises to be mainly accessory for me.
Like many others have said, this comes at such great timing. Was training for a marathon beginning of the year and have been getting into weight lifting recently. Your physique is inspiring and motivating! That’s what I’d like to achieve, and I believe it’s doable! I’ve also been reading Dr. Peter Attia’s book, which just reconfirms this drive to become strong and build endurance. Looking forward to the rest of the series. You’ve won a new subscriber.
Excited for this series! Have always lifted weights consistently and did some cardio but really trying to dial in the details and optimize. Sometimes I worry about having a good leg day lifting session and then running on sore legs the days after and gonna get injured bc it then puts even more stress on my legs/joints etc before they can recover
Having certain strength goals in the gym, that thought is going through my mind as well on a regular basis. However, going out for an easy run in zone 1-2 is one thing, I usually do that. Going for a max effort interval session or something that is pushing you past your anaerobic threshold, is not something I would do - in respect to recovery demand, which then is already high. Excited about this series, yes! 🙂
I’m gonna put in a plug for the BPN training app, specifically the hybrid athlete training program. 1) it’s free?!!!!; 2) never been stronger before in such a short amount of time(week 4/12); 3) my running has taken a small hit but I overall feel more balanced. Still getting a feel for it but loving the journey this far.
I would love to see a "Couch to Hybrid Athlete" type program from you. I'm just about to get started back on my fitness journey after many years on the couch and am really vibing with the Hybrid idea. However, doing running and weights training at the same time from doing nothing seems very intimidating haha
@@ITSJADAHHi second that. most failures to stick with a workout plan come from doing too much and getting injured, losing motivation, or the dread that creeps up before the workouts. if you put too much on your plate it becomes unsustainable. Nick, Awesome video. Love how you are spreading the word on hybrid athletes. Growing up a college soccer player/ professional. My entire life I have always been a hybrid athlete. Something no one ever understood. Getting up before anyone is awake and getting a run in and then hitting some type of workout later in the day. I’ve always been a believer in full body workouts. Never the type to just hit one body part. It’s always helped with my athletic performances as well as work on the ranch and job, and my everyday health. Continue the good fight! This type of working out is what people truly need for overall health. God bless you and your family. ✊🏽 HYBRID
You can strategically place your training to give everyone their due right. Your self has a right, your parents have a right, your wife has a right, your children have a right, your neighbours have a right, your friends have a right, Allaah has a right over you that you worship Him Alone. Also, looking after yourself, your cardiovascular health ultimately benefits your loved ones and the community as you give back with your strength, energy over a longer healthspan. So it's a win-win when you ponder

Hi Nick, I really enjoy your videos and your story. Your story has always connected with me because I have struggled with eating issues in the past, and as a current college cross country and track runner, I know how important it is to fuel my body. I enjoyed this video especially because I am trying to incorporate more lifting into my running routine. I am in the midst of summer training right now, and am hoping to make my body stronger. I also may be running a marathon in January, and have enjoyed watching your videos about your marathon. I have ran a half marathon and my PR is a 1:58, My marathon goal is a 3:30. Thank you for sharing your stories, vlogs, training, and nutrition advice because it deeply connects with me.
Stepping back into this life now. Since the start of Covid I’ve went from 5’9 160lb to 230lbs. I’ve been lifting but not eating well and not running and I feel so much worse than I ever have. Thank you for the motivation!
Been doing my own version of "hybrid" athletic training since 2010, but not near the level of this dude. As an endurance runner, I never painted myself in a corner of the common mindsets of "runners don't lift" and "meatheads don't run". I hate self limiting mindsets like that. Just. Be. thanks for bringing this back to the forefront.., I don't know when ppl stopped just training for everything, but I never quit. when I started training year ago.., the percentage was small, for those of us that lifted, and ran.., but we were out there.., good stuff bringing back to ppl..
Began sprint triathlon training a week ago for an event in Oct. Trying to figure out how to properly incorporate my strength training. Looking forward to the next vids.
I’ve been lifting weights pretty aggressively for nearly four years. No cardio during any of that until about 2-3 months ago. When I started adding running onto it (about 20 miles/week), I had hit a bit of a plateau with putting on muscle mass. Since I started running though, I’ve actually added on a decent amount of lean mass, and also dropped some additional body fat. My strength in the gym also shot past the plateau, even in upper body. I didn’t expect those changes and don’t know what to attribute them to other than incorporating running.
Hybrid training is the best, specially for the army. Im waiting for your video talking about nutrition, I think is the most important one 👍 Keep up the work, Nick!
Been bouncing between strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding and endurance sports (running and swimming) since I was 19. I love all forms of training but I think being able to squat 315 and run a marathon is where I’d like to be at in terms of fitness. 36yo male.

Beautifully said with everything; especially the not having to be signed up for an event to be considered a runner/power lifter/etc… Hybrid fitness is about showcasing a balance between multiple disciplines whether you’re a competitive athlete of “life” athlete.
I don’t think running loses muscle but it absolutely does slow down recovery, my strength went down slightly since running(I am also cutting so that could have a factor)
Well I have been Hybrid for most of my life, 70 years old now. I started at 14 with Karate, then at 15 included weights and running, then moved from karate to boxing, from there onto rock climbing, still doing weights and running, then hill running alongside weights. Everything was going fine until the age of 62, my right knee went (cartilage) the running stopped immediately, my leg would no longer straighten completely, so I moved onto the bike (should have done that when I hit 50). Two year later due to compensating when walking, my left foot arch completely collapsed. Basically that has been the trend ever since, I now require two knees and one hip, plus my shoulders aren't in great shape. I still bike, 30 miles X 3 per week and go to the gym 3X per week. I now use cables rather than free weights, less impact on the shoulders. What's my take on all this, I trained too much and I was carrying to much weight because of weight training (example regularly shoulder pressed 80/90 kgs), while my endurance running for decades around 40 miles per week and a lot of marathons. I now live in the absurd world of still being very fit but crippled at the same time, basically I can hardly walk anywhere and require a disability badge for parking my car and I also need that shopping trolley to hold onto to get round the supermarket. ''you pays your money and you takes your choice'' my mistake was lifting too heavy a weight and running too far with the kind of build Nick has. My goal was to get to 80 and still train like a beast, I still train like a beast but now walk like very old arthritic dog.
Everyone can adopt it... if it has no kids, stressful work, other responsibilities... The rest of us humans just have to periodize our training with more running oriented cycles and more weight oriented cycles.
This is the best training program I've ever tried. It is amazing for almost any sport and it does not get boring like every other program I've tried. I would like to come in contact with you for some advice. Is it possible?

Eat 30 grams of protein every three hours.
Whoever filmed and edited this did an amazing job with the sound design & pacing of the edit to keep the audience's attention!
I'm a multi-eventer, Pentahtlete. Runs, jumps and throws. All my training complements each other for all the events.
The man has his fitness together. I gotta give him respect he has put in the work.
However, doing running and weights training at the same time from doing nothing seems very intimidating haha
so start with one or the other then implement the other as you go. don’t overwhelm yourself.
@@ITSJADAHHi second that. most failures to stick with a workout plan come from doing too much and getting injured, losing motivation, or the dread that creeps up before the workouts. if you put too much on your plate it becomes unsustainable. Build a foundation of movement(aka low intensity exercise) then sprinkle in some spicy stuff. nick bare didn't get up off of the couch to train 6 days a week
Listen to the guys above. It's completely fine if you start by going on a walk everyday and doing some pushups, situps in an honest and organized fashion.
I second this. Need program for those w/ zero lifting experience and zero running.
😂
Love this brotha. I've been lifting for years but the end of last year wanted to up my game and started going hybrid. Running several times a week, my weekly long runs are now between 10-13 miles and still lifting 3-4 times a week on top of playing basketball for fun. It can be a lot to manage but I've never felt better and it's all worth it. Looking forward to more hybrid content!
Okay, I am happy that I found this channel and especially this "How to Hybrid" thing. Right on time. I want to combine weight training + kickboxing (which includes running as well). Balance is key!
Thanks
Great information! I’m 44 and have been hybrid training for over 20 years. I feel it is truly a prescription for anti aging when done correctly. It’s fun to be both strong physically and be able to easily do cardiovascular activities…I’m able to enjoy exercise with my teenagers and keep up with them. Currently training for my first ultramarathon in several years and feeling great while still making progress in the gym.
So why didn’t you trademark “hybrid” 20 years ago when Nick was 7?
@@jms0313 pretty sure it’s not trademarked.
This series is going to crush. Trained for marathons & been consistent with strength training for 3+ years. Yet to find a consistency between the two and would love to see full training & diet split for beginners all the way to advanced. Gassed.
This content comes at the right time!! I’m getting into Hybrid training and really need to understand how to all things about it. Thank you for creating these series🙏
Thank you Nick and your team for promoting the hybrid athlete training approach. The insight and educational content is very inspiring and helpful. I recently pivoted from primarily strength training to a hybrid program. Incorporating swimming, biking, and running and have made significant progress in all areas over the past three months…. Registering for age group 50-54 Texas Ironman April 2024. 💪
I’m on the start of week 3 of the hybrid athlete program. I’ve been loving it
Nick,
Awesome video.
That serie is gonna be dope!! Im 39 always been in the bodybuilding lifestyle, getting older and having a harder keeping the weight, i switch my training incorporing a lot of running, 5-10-20k and bike. Its been a Little more than a year now and i love it! But still got a lot of thing to figure out about this style of training, cant wait for those next episodes!!😎💪💪
Im excited for this series! I have been doing a lot of running and strength training and am having a hard time with nutrition and recovery, thanks for doing this!!
Eat more, and cut down abit on the leg training volume. I train 1-2 leg excercises per day instead of full legdays and it helps running alot
Brilliant timing. Im training for a Half Marathon whilst strength training.
I hope you cover how to best schedule these workouts. How many times a week etc.
Hi Nick,
I really enjoy your videos and your story.
Running, cycling and weightlifting. Been doing it for 10 years. I wouldn't have it any other way. Keeps everything balanced...
Stepping back into this life now. Since the start of Covid I’ve went from 5’9 160lb to 230lbs. I’ve been lifting but not eating well and not running and I feel so much worse than I ever have.
Thank you for the motivation!
You will get their brother go get it 💪💪💪
@@Mike-up6hw appreciate the encouragement bro 😎
Thanks Nick! Looking forward to this series!
I was already regretted buying a new running shoe thinking that I was gonna lose my muscles, but seeing this video my hope got back! Let's get hybrid!
Been doing my own version of "hybrid" athletic training since 2010, but not near the level of this dude. As an endurance runner, I never painted myself in a corner of the common mindsets of "runners don't lift" and "meatheads don't run". I hate self limiting mindsets like that. Just. Be. Active...in various ways and often!
I don’t do this for anyone. But I’m clicking that bell. I’m a 46 year old marine corp infantry recovering fat ass wanting to run a marathon. And lift 4 days a week. I’ll follow for more!!
thanks for bringing this back to the forefront.., I don't know when ppl stopped just training for everything, but I never quit.
when I started training year ago.., the percentage was small, for those of us that lifted, and ran.., but we were out there.., good stuff bringing back to ppl..
i love this series of content nick, i fell in love with hybrid training; this helps me out keeping my motivation in the highest level
Started three years ago combining triathlon and bodybuilding. Thank you Nick for your videos. Go one more.
This is what i want for Such a long time
Deeper and honest topics
Hybrid training is the best, specially for the army. Im waiting for your video talking about nutrition, I think is the most important one 👍 Keep up the work, Nick!
I’ve always wondered this because I am starting to concentrate on physique but also love running and cycling. Looking forward to this.
Been bouncing between strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding and endurance sports (running and swimming) since I was 19. I love all forms of training but I think being able to squat 315 and run a marathon is where I’d like to be at in terms of fitness. 36yo male.
I'm loving this new series. As someone who's starting to incorporate running into my fitness regimen to train for a 10K in October, it's important for me to keep focusing on my gym gains as well.
Been doing it for decades help me recover from massive body trauma at 52. Currently 58 almost back fully minus distance running due to shattered hip and pelvis. REAL LIFE RESULTS
Love your videos, i started ro train like an hybrid athlete 3 months ago because of your videos. You are a reference for me. Best regards from Spain!!
I also love your videos about how do you eat in a day
This content just keeps getting better and better. Big thumbs up to you and the team behind, doing the editing 👍
Oddly enough, I did my first session yesterday of hybrid 3.0! Perfect time for this series to come out!
That is true no need to sign up on any platform just do it for yourself Your Body your Rule's....

Thank you for taking the time to do these videos and help us. I have learned a lot from you. Looking forwards to these next videos and learning more from you. 🤙🏽😎🏁
Thank you! I follow you from Argentina. Can’t wait to ser the next video!
Let's goooo!!! Perfect time to hit this type of content, I ran for the last 2 year, almost without much muscle work or workouts and now I want to gain some muscle and became even better at trail running! So excited can't wait! 💪🏋️♂️🏃♂️
Big ups! From South Africa
Awesome video man. Looking forward to the rest of them.
Excellent! Looking forward to the rest of the series! Thank you!
Thank your for the amazing content. Really looking forward to learn more valuable insights from
you in the following videos as well.
I don’t enjoy running, but I do enjoy BJJ. I also don’t plan to sign up for a competition, but the cardio is insane.
Love it, can't wait for more episodes.
Nice! I’ve gone thru seasons with running and lifting, but lately I’ve been doing both! Excited for the series, thank you!
Love It Nick, Great Job!!!!!
Really high production quality and great information!
Great video. I'm looking forward to the next!
This video is incredibly well done and gets the message right across. Go one more.
I try to follow urs..since 4.yrs ago...ended up...i did x move to hybrid..still stuck as an ultra runner..BUT...i get lot of victories.
NOW..since i hv injured.. only can start training for RUN aftr 7 months resting.(today is my 4th months) it is time..i fully and must make it happen as a hybrid
doing everything just makes sense from a healthy and longevity perspective. i believe the hybrid athelete is the way of the future.
I’m listening Nick
Be lifting for 4 yrs, just got into running about 1 yr ago. 15K coming up in a few months. Feeling like it’s impossible right now to do both.
Beautifully said with everything; especially the not having to be signed up for an event to be considered a runner/power lifter/etc…
Hybrid fitness is about showcasing a balance between multiple disciplines whether you’re a competitive athlete of “life” athlete.
Hi! Thanks for a good channel!
Hoping you can be honest here: Are you on any type of TRT or HRT?
To be that size and burn all those calories with all that endurance training he most certainly is on trt
Perfect timing! Just signed up for the Spartan beast.
Everyone can adopt it... if it has no kids, stressful work, other responsibilities... The rest of us humans just have to periodize our training with more running oriented cycles and more weight oriented cycles.
excited for the series. make vlog documenting your hole day
This is the best training program I've ever tried. It is amazing for almost any sport and it does not get boring like every other program I've tried. I would like to come in contact with you for some advice. Is it possible?
Great video, info and leadership! Thanks for leading by example!
gotta love the Mic Quality in this video.
Yes!!!! So excited for this
Been doing hybrid for years and have a youtube channel that focuses. Recenty moved to the Austin area,. Had a health issue come up and had to get surgery last month near Nick's HQ ay Baylor hospital in Round Rock, and now trying to get back to health
So ready for the next episode !!! Go one more ;)
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and Knowledge. , Respect for Saudi Arabia 🥂
Love it. Excited to see the rest
Perfect timing as I got into this recently over the last month and I still have a lot of questions
I make coffee for a living. Nah dude you are a barrista! I serve beer for a living, nah dude you are a mixologist! I lift weights and do cardio.....nah bruh you are a hybrid athlete lolololololololl
Can't wait!
Just fitted my GO ONE MORE decal to my car. 💪🏼
so stoked for this series. need a new goal and challenge... triathlon seems like it could be the thing for me. I already cycle and strength train, now to start swimming and running. Lets go! G1M
Nick Bare: You should lift and run.
Mike O'Tren: You're a hobbit.
LETS GO! would love more information on hybrid training
Pretty much doing this all my life. I feel it's just re branded😊 but yes it is a good source for overall physical fitness that will lead to longevity.
