      With that in mind, his body isn't that impressive. H-ck it is absolutely possible to have a similar body (or actually better) at that age all naturally wihout TRT or anything.. I'm 56 and cutting right now to get down to 205 pounds (about 93kg) in the summer at 182 cm (almost 6 feet). At that weight I can do full range chinups in rings with 25 kg added for 8 reps for example (That means pulling a total of 118 kg in the rings from bottom to top).
      People have too low expectations about the fitness of people in the higher range of middle age. What they often forget is that a person may have started very early in life working out like crazy. I did 13 pronated and 16 supinated full range chinups (I am European, Swede) when I was nine years old so I have that advantage going for me....
      I'm going to try to show how damn good you can be at 56 (well 57 in July next year for me) natural. Wil have to cut down even further below 93 to do that...Right now at 108 "full house" kg!

      I think thats generally the thing with america. Usually food here in Europe is less processed and higher quality or a lot less greasy and sweet and portions are much smaller. I mean look up White Castle burgers or cheese in tubes, the Heart Attack restaurant, or even worse: These lunchables they give their kids in schools - Highly processed food with only crap in it. Not saying you cant get your hands on similar low quality food here as well, but on the average I would be surprised if households in america have a healthier died with better food than europeans. I mean I saw a documentary and some family literally had some heated-up sweet waffle with a large chunk of butter + bacon as a breakfast.

    One "hack" I use for filling tasty food is substituting half a thing.
    For instance, if I make a fried rice dish instead of 1 cup of rice, I use half a cup the add 2 cups of finely chopped cabbage.
    The volume gets INSANE and cuts the carbs in half while giving you a ton of fiber.
    My fried rice dish I make is usually 60g protein and about 35ishg Carbs.

      I do somthing similar, instead of rice, I use the steamed Cauliflour rice in the steamable bag. It's very filling and it's super low calorie, one of the Green Giants bags is less than 100 calories for 1 whole bag, add some lean turkey or chicken breast and some more veggies plus some light soy sauce, whole meal is around 300 calories for me.

      I think it’s probably worth mentioning intent though. A lot of the random celebrity fitness trainers are trying to sell something and also don’t give good information for the goal. In those cases a lot of the time the goal is growing muscle mass and strength, and the complicated exercises they often give for that are not good got the goal. Rogan’s exercises are more focused on overall cardiovascular fitness/endurance, which makes sense considering his martial arts background; and he’s not trying to sell anything, just basically telling people the things that he does.

    You know, as a person who trains both bjj and weights, and is conscious of health, I would like to hear a bit more about efficient ways to train rather than the optimal ones. I mean, 4 times bjj + 4 times strength training sounds all well and good, but if you have a job and don't use PEDs, it's basically fantasy land. It's more than 1 workout daily, there's neither enough time to do it nor enough opportunity for recovery, without event taking into consideration the increased injury risk.
    So maybe kettlebells aren't the end all be all of strenght training, but maybe they're more efficient because you can blast a 20min circuit and be pretty much done for the day, having targeted the whole body.
    I truly crave to get better healthier and stronger, but in order to do that I need to know how to train wisely.
    And consider I'm Italian, so I have it easy since I can eat 3kg of bread and pasta daily and not get fat. 🤣

    • @FictionalAdventurer
      @FictionalAdventurer 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can do circuit training yeah or train one big movement for strength each day too. Also could have days you do bjj and days you do weights instead of always doing them the same day.

    • @tor678
      @tor678 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      This. I'm used to BJJ 3-5 times a week, but wanted to add strength training. For strength, injury prevention, and looks. The goal was strength training 2 times a week (simple upper body lower body split) and BJJ 3+ times. Turns out that's hard in practice with a full time job and variable quality/quantity of sleep.
      The times I've tried to "stick with it" regardless of how I feel, I usually end up with a cold or at best in "zombie mode" at work and social stuff. Next thing I'll try is same setup, but doing the strength training a bit further from fatigue - maybe that's more sustainable over time.
      Would love more content on this.

      It’s not exactly true, in the US our food companies have scientists whose job is literally to make the food as addictive as possible, they do this with chemicals, they do this with texture, crunch, etc. People who just say “calories in calories out” while it’s true in a plain mathematical sense, is ignoring the context for why we eat more here and the elevation of profits over health. Many Italian Americans still have a big family and care about food like those in Italy, yet many here are still fat.

    The thing about Italy, Joe, isn't that the food is less caloric (though we aren't comparing the average diet here, only the average pasta), it's the lifestyle that's healthier on a whole - they use less cars, walk more, etc.; that includes a better diet on average too... This means that their average diet and activity are gonna make less people fat, but the pasta specifically isn't that different.

    Regarding the italian lifestyle and eating: first of all, most italians don’t really have a full breakfast. Coffee and cornetto is quite typical (high calorie dense though), then they have lunch around midday (often pasta, maybe a salad or some tramezzinis), but then there is a long gap before they eat again. Good luck trying to get something in a smaller italian town between 3 and 6. Dinner is typically late and often it’s just fish and vegetables or meat and vegetables or if they have pasta it’s either the only main dish, or an appetiser, but then a much smaller portion. Portions in general are not as big as in the US. Just compare the coffee size if you order a cappucino in italy and in the US…

      Now unfortunately I have to agree with Jr on this. European health standards are incredibly higher than the United States in regards to their allowed ingredients. And while yes, calories in calories out is the most important aspect, quality of ingredients has a massive impact on how food makes you feel how you eat it and how you exercise throughout your day.

    • @holdwhatdoor7629
      @holdwhatdoor7629 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@definitelynotcole Exactly. Italy also restricts the use of herbicides like glyphosate, which US crops get sprayed with to kill them and dry them out right before harvest. Glyphosate impacts gut microbiome and hormones. This is a part of the reason why US obesity rates are horrific. Its not the only reason, people are lazy, food has less nutrients because of speed of harvest and not letting things properly ripen - which also means the fruiting process and maturation of grains doesn't happen properly and so a lot of food does not develop the proper nutrient profile. This induces a lack of satiety and increases the feeling of hunger even after eating because more of the calories are less nutrient dense. Granted, laziness is still a big factor, but the laziness compounded with the absolutely fucked food system and standards in America makes for a higher likelihood of gaining excess weight on lower quality food doused in herbicides that disrupt hormones and the gut microbiome.

    In Italy we get LESS fat (compared to the USA) just because junk food is a minor part of our (average) diet. So, we eat less calorie-dense foods than Americans do. Sure, we have pizza, gelato and fried things, but we don't normally eat that every day. Also, we have on average a more varied diet, including in it more vegetables and fruits than Americans. That said, Italy is indeed getting fatter and fatter, as it's almost the norm for every modern country.

    • @Geomaster115
      @Geomaster115 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Dr. Mike didn't say a single time kettle bells are excellent for hypertrophy. They are going to grow muscle and strength in beginners because beginners will grow a lot from most any resistance movement. Once you get past beginner gains they basically do nothing. It's good for general health but that's about it. Which is what he said in the video.

      @ ok, fine smartass. So folic acid, like all organic acids and folate are interchangeable. Any time you mix acid with water the OH group detaches leaving the -ate portion. I.e ascorbic acid->ascorbate, folic acid->folate, acetic acid->acetate. Folic acid (or folate) is absolutely essential for the function of the human body, most importantly DNA synthesis and RBC production. Not to mention the benefit for pregnant women in reducing the risk of neural tube defects.

    • @7anamanneh
      @7anamanneh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is actually a good thing that wheat based products in the US are all supplemented with folate, reducing these risks. So yeah, Joe shouldn’t weigh in on shit he doesn’t understand.

    • @7anamanneh
      @7anamanneh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @ I don’t know where my reply went. Here we go again, folic acid like all organic acids, when added to water dissociates the hydroxyl group and becomes folate so they are interchangeable. Other examples include acetic acid becoming acetate, ascorbic acid, which is vitamin C, becoming ascorbate. Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production, not to mention the benefits in reducing the risk of neural tube defects and pregnant women.

      Yeah, I've seen other RP videos where Dr Mike talks about food and dieting and motivation and all that and they've been amazing, but the condensed version is what he mentions there. In my case changing that plus other strategies like more, but smaller meals (and in my case getting my anxiety, and anxious eating in check) have made all the difference in the world, controlling my weight has been easy now, which lets me use my willpower for those days when I don't want to go to the gym, or don't want to go hard on a tennis court for training.
      ....sure is nice when you see the benefits of the hard work though either in wearing clothes you never thought you'd wear again, lifting heavy things without issue or doing xyz athletic feat.
