I've been waiting for someone to do some testing of the fake Strongarm. They're going for $33 and up on eBay now here in the states. Real ones are going for $75 and up. The Prodigy can be found for as low as $50 if you're patient but mostly $60 and up. I already have an older LMF II but I want something lighter so I've been debating between the fake Strongarm or a Prodigy. Thank you for helping me make my decision, lol. In return, I subscribed.

The real gerber strongarm from gerber isnt manufactured in china. Its made at a factory here in Portland Oregon. Tho i do know that gerber does go thru a factory in China for some of their knives so its possible that factory has access to the strongarm specs and design
@@Thoringald77 From what we told , but if it's assembled in Portland Oregon and products in China then they can say made in USA so I've been told. Not saying that the case but they can manufacturer a item in China and box it in the USA and say it American made.
I’ve got the Gerber Strong arm but the rest of my knives are Mora’s. Garberg Carbon and the Kansbol, the Eldris and the companion and companion HD and last but not least I’ve got the outdoor wood carving basic. I’ve also got the Fiskar X7 hatchet. It’s a good wee start for me.
Hello, I have the same fake knive.. ordered it from aliexpress for 19 euro .I was curious. Only optical difference I could find is the buttons on the sheath are coyote brown and on the original gerber they are black. On the webside they don't show the logo's name etc. But it looked just like the strongarm and I ordered it. When I got it I was quite surprized.. Gerber box, Gerber logos , made Oregon USA, all the sheath options... WTF..... On the Chinese webside they say the steel is "stainless" So I started using this as a knife to beat on.. And was so surprized .. like you in the video... It holds an edge decent, about aus8 I would guess. It's a very good knive for the price I have to say. I coundn't break it, I still use it... Now .. I'm totally against clones and fake knives , I have high end knives and I pay for them. But for this one I have to be honest, it's an amazing good knive for the price... Gerber should sue them!

R.L. held up well. I own a few original Strongarm knives and there's not much difference that you can see unless they are side by side and from the footage of the fakes I have seen those R.L. are not too bad , especially for a budget buy blade.
I bought one from eBay which I believe it to be a fake, but an awesome fake, tough, and I ordered one right off the gerber website and I can't tell the difference. I went ahead and ordered another fake Strongarm this time with serrations and I'm hoping it's as good as my fine edge fake one.
I f ok t get it, how can China do these fakes that look and behave identical to the real thing? If it’s exactly the same but fake then how are they exactly going to make money using same quality materials and manufacturing? Maybe it’s to try to sabotage the real company
I have the exact same one. I believe that is a true Strong arm or a very good fake. Mine has the serial numer 0870118B on it. The opposite side of the molle attachment clip has a capital A on it. I got mine directly from Gerber website, so I'm assuming if yours has all that, it's legit.
Even if it’s a fake at £14 and keeps an edge win win. It looks to be well made so only time will tell. Bit like a Rolex from Thailand u know it’s fake but keeps time and is sum what waterproof best 10 quid I’ve spent lol.
Paul Brock used it again at the weekend and it's holding up amazing starting to think it might be real but regardless as you say if it works it works lol
@@outdoorbasics2562 It's not real, it's certainly fake. It can be noticed by some details on the chief. In the original, the canvas strap goes over the buttons on the back. I can see that much in the video.
Few things that stand out on the blade is your handle has a sharper profile where it dips in and the bade has a rounder curve where it meets the grip. On the sheaf you have two small holes for water drainage whereas mine has only one. It makes me wonder if it’s really worth them making fakes if they are so close in quality to the original. Like how is that supposed to be financially viable? This is what I think is happening. Gerber (along with myriads of other companies) moved the production over to China for cheaper labour (slave labour in some cases allegedly) the problem is is that for these companies trying to make a quick buck or two don’t realise the future implications. China has no problem with stealing intellectual property whatsoever and now they have there manufacturing factories 🏭 and will simply carry on making i phones, Strongarms McDonalds etc and sell them back to us and thereby over saturate the market and undercut the real companies not to mention how much they sell in China itself, they simply rebrand the name. It’s not to hard to realise when they are making Knives for Gerber like the Bear Grylls etc, they can make flawless copies of the originals no problem. And it serves our companies right since they have totally betrayed us.
I picked up one of these from temu a few days ago. If i hadn't watched youtube about the fake ones i would never has known. This knife is almost a perfect copy of the real thing. It looks good, quality so far is good and the blade was pretty sharp out the box. Not bad for 15 bucks. At this price i can beat the hell out of it and not feel bad.
I got a couple from temu too. I’m curious when you remove the belt hang/ vertical carry part and your left with just the part that snaps around the handle you end up with a few inches that just dangle off the end. Like I feel there should be a button male vs female swap to secure it back down.
If you were on a budget and looking for a knife to really torture the hell out of it (I mean really take it through it's bushcraft paces), which one would you chose, this fake Chinese Gerber for £18 or a real SRK for £65??? How is the steel of this fake Gerber holding up 5 years later???
I have the same knife. I do not think it is false, it must be a batch of Gerber that came out with some irregularities and decided to put it on the market at a lower price. Counterfeiting a knife to that level of accuracy and quality is not something that results in profit.
If your Strongarm has hollow grind then it's Counterfeit. If it has flat grind then it's Original. Yes, Chinese can even make a decent fake product but it's still a fake. They still make profit on it or they wouldn't make it. Use your brain!
@@LXT43 I have 2 green color fakes that I got from an ebay China vendor; one was hollow ground and the other flat... They cost about $30 CDN each which is less than 1/3 cost of the real Gerber. I do have a legit Gerber version and while the fit & finish is slightly better, Gerber QC failed to notice that the webbing was missing one snap.

@@b.bushcraft7332 i decided to try one. i ordered the one from aliexpress that states its made from 12c27 steel.i dont know if its true or not but i have beat it pretty hard and it still looks almost new. it has totally shocked me with its toughness. it looks just like the real one. it weighs less though.

The fakes are hollow grind as opposed to saver grind. Just another little difference that most don't happen to mention

Just saw another vid. He had the real,& fake. The fake didn't clip into the sheath just right. It should make a kinda popping noicewhen seated.
If this is the only Difference i go for the "Fake" 22€ instead of 100-120€ that´s a huge difference
