I’ve had my Strongarm since 2015, but just found out today that there are fakes of this knife. I bought mine from Amazon, but I’m not convinced it’s legit. The box is correct, but it has a different cardboard liner. Mine was missing the molle snap-in strap. The knife edge and logo looks legit, but the instruction sheet is exactly like the one from the fake in this video. I’ve had it this long it doesn’t matter at this point.
The fakes have taken over Amazon as of late. In recent months I ordered 11 knives from 6 different sellers, from Amazon including Amazon itself. Only 2 out of 11 were real Gerber Strongarm. I returned 9 fakes with notes that these are fakes. Ordered 2 from MidwayUSA and 1 LMF II, all 3 are real Gerber products. Albeit, the prices from MidwayUSA were higher by $20.
Habe eben eins aus einem Messergeschäft gekauft und bin mir gerade total unsicher. Ist es normal dass das Messer in der Scheide etwas spiel hat und man es 2mm rein und rausschieben kann, oder muss es komplett fest drinne sitzen ?
Also bei meinem verrastet es mit einem Klack ein und hat auch dann noch locker 2mm Spiel zum rein und rausschieben. Wenn alles andere passt, musst du dir keine Gedanken machen ;)
@@helpful_photographer danke für die rasche Antwort. Da bin ich erstmal beruhigt. Jedoch sind mir noch zwei weitere Dinge aufgefallen, die bei vielen anderen Reviews nicht zu sehen waren. Und zwar hat meine Scheide am Ende nur ein Loch als Ablauf, nicht zwei. Gibt es da möglicherweise verschiedene Bauweisen je nach Herstellungsjahr ? Und das Zweite ist, dass die Klingenspitze von oben gesehen, auf der rechten Seite etwas mehr angeschliffen ist, als auf der linken Seite
@@remixato Interessant, von den Abläufen an der Scheide hör ich zum ersten Mal. Bei mir sind es auch 2. Meins ist aus 2016. Von daher kann sich da auch über die Jahre was geändert haben Der Schliff ist bei mir auf einer Seite auch stärker ausgeprägt.
I bought a fake off of eBay great price thought man did I get a bargain. After watching these videos two days after buying it I was so pissed. I turned the seller in to eBay and contacted the seller I got part of my money. I asked the seller what to do with the fake knife he said keep it he didn’t want it because it was fake. I bought a real Strongarm and everything about the fake one is wrong when you compare them. Don’t buy a knife from eBay.
It is really sharp but you can tell them apart the lousy thing is that how well will the blade hold together. I put the real Strongarm in front of my son and let him look at hold put it in the sheath the packaging and just the quality. I then put the fake one out did the same thing and asked him which one fake. Never seeing a Strongarm until then he picked up the fake one and said this is the fake one. I have it to and told him to be careful with it. I learned my lesson about the knife.
I think you compared two counterfeits to each other. A very well made (coyote) and a really poor one. If the blade hasn't a 5 digits long number then something is off, as far that i know. They should have the serial number 08723 (coyote)/08722(black) and and both prints see to be at the wrong position. The strongarm with tooth cut, can't remember which one US or EU version or colour should have 08721 as i have seen from another bushcraft channel from austria. Or am i totally wrong and got me a fake from amazon official gerber store? Everything else than my number issue seems to be on point to be complete original.
My version is also from Amazon. Year 2016 -> 8 years old. Serial number 08711. I don't think it's fake. Maybe they changed some little things about the years.
@@helpful_photographer I couldn't read the number on your coyote knife and it seemed to be longer than 5 digits. Around 5:48 in your video and the closed shot was blurring the last digits and also seemed too long. So i was confused. But 08711 back then seems legit. Also i needed a day to get Gerbers number system right. 087 Bladeshape; last two digits sometimes production year? Mine is new with 23 and i found a video seeing 16 or 18 (video was hectic and nearly couldn't get a frame to read) in the end, the first below 21 number. Then i got it, how the numbers work.
I just bought a fake one. The guy made a shipping label but it hasn't actually shipped yet. The box is wrong and I got the Portlamd box knife. It's in the pics of his knife. I'm trying to get my money back before the UPS guy picks up the knife. $70 is what I paid. Ebay.. The sheath is wrong too. Even in the pics the seller has up on eBay. Fuuuuuuuuck... It never crossed my mind. I'm watching Strongarm vids and a vid on a fake one popped up in my search. I would have never known if not for the videos.
I got real ones from MidwayUSA. Current price is $80 but they have sale and free shipping offer from time to time. I got a 10% off + free shipping. I yhink they are running a 20% off for the Gerber LMF II now for $89.

That's lousy. But the fake one works also. According to the price it could be a win-win for you.

It looks solid, but yeah i would never trust in the quality of the fake one and lever something or work really hard with it.
I am staying clear of eBay for buying any more knives.

Sharpness test is pretty much irrelevant! You need to test edge retention.
That's true. Stress test video is still on my to do list :-D

Easiest way to check is the box. You don’t even need to open it up. Then if there is bubble wrap the instructions and the sheath.
