    I am definitely going to add my thoughts on your video. First congrats on being new to gear reviews and thank you for your honesty during the review. I can't speak much about the Strongarm because I don't personally have that blade but I absolutely love my Prodigy. The sheath design and price is why I chose the Prodigy. As for your video itself I would definitely agree with whomever in the comments mentioned having more lighting. Your video is absolutely dark and very difficult to see what you are wanting to show. Definitely keep up the work and stay honest in your reviews.

      I carry the strong all everyday I use it for everything from opting boxes to chopping limbs to anything else that needs cut the blade is a little thick for me honestly but it’s very durable definitely worth every dollar also makes a great bushcraft knife go strong arm 💪🏻

    Picked up the Prodigy a few years ago from Walmart for $45. I’ve used it on rivers, in the woods, SWAT operations, camping, etc. and it’s still kicking like the day I bought it. It has been a great knife! For a USA made blade from Walmart, it’s hard to beat.
    And I can attest the window punch on the handle will in fact break a car window lol.

    I think you may have gotten a lemon. I have a Strongarm and have done godawful things to it with no issues on any part of it. Same with my Prodigy and even my Bear Grylls knife. I’ve dug holes, batoned, thrown, and even used my Gerber knives as fishing spears. The Strongarm is going to end up in my boogaloo bag and the Prodigy will end up on my motorcycle once I get saddlebags because its sheath is more compact. That being said, I despise all of Gerber’s sheaths. Just give us a nice simple SRK style sheath without all the snaps, straps, and bullshit. If I want a MOLLE system I’ll buy it aftermarket or adapt an Esee MOLLE backing onto my sheath. Gerber’s sheaths are the reason the SRK sees more belt time. Same goes for the BK-7. You can have a sick ass knife but if you hate the sheath that knife won’t get carried. Anyway, that’s just my two cents. Sorry you had a bad experience. I’ve never had a bad Gerber. Maybe I’m just lucky. Lol

    I liked the Prodigy. I had one for years. Didn’t keep an edge but it was very easy to sharpen. Now as a survival knife I have an Off Grid Back Country and as a fighting knife a S&W Search and Rescue. Thinking about swapping the S&W with a Ka-Bar

    • @Unknxwn_Operator
      @Unknxwn_Operator ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I owned a ka-bar loved the thing and still do but I genuinely switched from a ka-bar to the prodigy for a good reason and you might as well I use my Ka-bar as a wood splitter/back up knife for my prodigy for one simple reason: the ka-bar is too big long bulky and just uncomfortable for the past what 50+ years it's been around nothing about it has changed besides the fact you can get one in a plastic/rubber/polymer grip and one in the traditional leather but other then that there a good strong reliable knife but when it comes down to it I would much prefer a prodigy over a ka-bar easier to work with easier to manipulate easier to hide, pack, and carry I'm still struggling to this day to find a proper way to attach my ka-bar to any sort of moly attachments

    I love Gerber knives, but I agree whole heartedly with you . The prodigy is much better than the strongarm. I believe they should've just kept the prodigy design. I've got 1drop point prodigy, and 2 tanto prodigy,with that said I also own 2 strong arms and I also love to throw knives. And why in this day and age shouldn't we be able to throw a knife without fear of damaging it especially when a lot of these companies have been in business for several years. Their knives should be good to go.

  • @LXT43
    @LXT43 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The biggest difference (in my opinion) are handles on both Prodigy & Strongarm. Prodigy's handle is thicker and smooth. Strongarm's handle is slightly thinner and rough. Firmly holding it in the hand leaves checkered pattern on your palm. Not good and not much can be done about it since it's rubber, can't be sanded down like wood or micarta. Strongarm is more tactical. Seems like it was designed to be used with gloves on. IMO

    Hello! May I? (escuse my english, please) I have Prodigy Tanto, Prodigy, Strongarm serrated and fine edge and that knives are my favorites. I have a lot of knives: ESEE4 (2 knives), ESEE 6, Ontario Rat7, few Muela Knives, Cudeman, Jarosz Turok made by KA-BAR (I love that), Trail Seeker made by TOPS etc., all very good knives! BUT my favorites are PRODIGY and STRONGARM, for what I'm doing with a knife in buschraft activities...

    The Strong-arm in your video has all the signs of a knockoff.
    I know because I had one. Amazon purchase.
    Edge comes all the way back. Not supposed to. Holes are not centered.
    Sheath belt loop broke under FIRST use.
    Logo is in wrong place.
    The box mine came in said made in Portlamd Oregon 😂 but I was pissed.
    Hate sending stuff back.

    I bought a Gerber strongarm a few years back for about 35 bucks new. I should've bought 5 of them for that price. Too bad I did not have any extra money. Anyhow I gave the knife to a friend because I felt guilty for a trade that he made with me where I had a very obvious advantage in the deal. Anyway my good friend lost the damn strongarm. That freaking breaks my heart knowing how good of a damn knife twas... I almost feel more guilty having given it to him at this point now. LOL!

  • @LegalAmerican4
    @LegalAmerican4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've got both and prefer the Strongarm, but I would definitely recommend the Prodigy for the price. Paid $75 ish after tax for the Strongarm, $100 is way too much. Both are basically the same knife, it just comes down to handle preference, sheath preference, and cost. Anyone who loves one of these and thinks the other is a total waste of money isn't very realistic considering they're such similar knives.

    • @courtneyhodges5782
      @courtneyhodges5782  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Due to the pandemic and subsequent crash in the US economy, coupled with the constant threat of civil unrest, the price may have been affected. my point was that these knifes are so similar the price shouldn't be so different. I did see the other video posted in retaliation to this one and the guy there was right on a lot of things but at the end of the day he did say he was sponsored and didnt mention a single downside in the difference. I on the other-hand, see how Gerber and their sister company Fiscers conduct business leading to the major differences in priceing. Ive been using the strong arm more and more to try and take it to the limits. But its practically the same blade as its cheaper counterpart.
      If the sheath is something you are looking into the prodigy is more versatile then it lets on and way more durable. Definitely more of a bushcraft knife and less of a tactical blade.

  • @powerplay4real174
    @powerplay4real174 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Gerber Prodigy is a good knife and they are vertualy the same as you said but WalMart sell the Prodigy at a special price because of their buying power and it's a exclusive with a plain edge others could sell them at a similar price but don't because they want that profit margin and with all those extras you got on your StrongArm ,your should feel so type away about that knife ,but l like both may Strong Arm & WalMart Exclusive Prodigy
    .
    You StrongArm
    It's still a good knife and you should talk to Gerber about that handle issue.

    1. Do this video in some light so we can actually see what you are complaining about. "Let that sink in...." I can't absorb it if I can't see it.
    2. Why are you throwing your knives? There are virtually zero reason to throw your knife.
    3. Have you checked with Gerber to verify you have an authentic Gerber and that you didn't get a fake?

    Never had a prodigy but im about to buy one. I have had a strongarm, it was stolen from storage a couple of years ago but the knife was okay, To me the sheath made it worth the money when combined with the knife. It did have the rubber on the handle fray a little bit from playing with it but nothing you wouldnt expect.
    Edit: That prodigy does not look near 3 years old. Even with the toughest of mid range coatings that isnt worn very much in the middle.

    And I removed the sheath from the fabric completely, and just slapped on a leather strap as a belt rig. It sits partially in my back pocket while on the belt. The leather is detachable to serve as a strop.

    Worst knife in the market is the Prodigy. Best knife in the market is the Strong Arm 💪. The prodigy has THE worst steel, THE worst grip, THE worst edge, THE worst price and THE worst cutting power. The STRONG ARM 💪 has, THE BEST PRICE, THE BEST steel (420 HARDENED carbon) THE best grip, THE best retaining edge and THE best all round usage, INCLUDING throwing at trees. I know it hurts your butt because the prodigy is being discontinued and replaced by (to be frank) a MUCH better knife. I know it hurts your butt that you paid more money, and SO the plot has been uncovered. You don’t like the fact that you paid MORE and your inferior (in every possible reality) knife has been discontinued. The REASON a knife is being discontinued is because a better and much more capable knife has come along. And it is made in AMERICA 🇺🇸 case CLOSED.

      I implore you to-do mor research before making a fool of yourself. Walmart has made no claim to discontinue the prodigy, nither has gerber. Do you own ither of these blades? And if you claim to be Christian, who shairs the gospel on your page as well as advocates for the persecuted Christians in China; why are you on my page spreading hate?
