    Thanks for this - I just put a t7600 into a D820 and this made it very easy (didn't even lose a screw) !

    I upgraded the bios from 17 to 19 on my Dell 630, before going to Win10. Thank you, nice concise video, sir!

      I updated my bios to A17 as well and I was able to install 8 gigabytes of DRAM rather than the 4 gigabytes as stated bye Dell. Made a big difference. Also went to a SSD 120gb hard drive for a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. Our 8 year old Daughter accidentally broke Mom’s laptop and Mom has gone back to college to get her teaching certificate so she needs a laptop for studies. I have provided her a stable platform bye updating and upgrading my D830.

    This is going to be my upgrade setup (all components from aliexpress):
    - intel core 2 duo T9500 CPU (I think is the max)
    - intel 4965agn WiFi card (same as you)
    - DDR2 8GB PC2-6400S 800Mhz SODIMM memory (with BiOS A17, 8gb is possible)
    - CR2032 2032 Battery Wire 2 pin ( yes )
    - motherboard with NVS 140M graphic card (just because I want)
    Extra upgrade, External GPU:
    So, a external GFX card with connection to one of the mini PCIe slots using one of these adapters:
    - JHH-Link Dock-mini PCIe
    - PCE164P-N03 from versions V006c to V011 also N08 or other "N", also a MPCIe connector to USB if needed
    - EXP GDC Beast 8.4d
    GFX card... well some of these adapters say you must have a Gforce 1060 or later and windows 10.... but I'll try something older, perhaps an old Quadro cards (not a gamie card but still I want to have a Quadro) from 2010 to 2014... and I'll try WIndows 7.

    Bonsoir, suite à votre vidéo j'ai entrepris de faire la même chose sur mon Dell D830 mais après avoir reçu les nouvelles pièces avec les bonnes références, au moment de remplacer le processeur avec lui aussi la bonne référence je me suis aperçu que l'espace rectangulaire laissé par les 2 pins manquants du coin de positionnement étaient placés perpendiculairement par rapport au socket et au processeur T 7200 d'origine. Comment cela est-il possible? Quoi faire? Merci d'avance de m'éclairer.

    excellent and clearly explained step by step. still, i do not understand why you have to unscrew the bottom cover when all the work is performed under the keyboard. it seems like you did more work than necessary.
    un grand merci pour une vidéo fort utile.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the screws on the bottom secure the top cover with the keyboard. With the top cover off, you can remove the heatsink and CPU and GPU.
      He could have and should have removed the top cover completely for best ease and lowest risk of damaging something or another.

    Great video. I have the same laptop and i purchased SSD but running windows XP 64bit. I will buy new processor but will it fit. I want Core 2 duo T9600. It says its 1066mhz, is this compatible? If not then t9300 is best bet? Thanks

    • @ChrisFixTec
      @ChrisFixTec  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks. No, you must choose a 800MHz FSB CPU like the T9300 or the T9500

    Do you have to save stuff on usb drive and then install drivers after this cpu . Windows ten and dell drivers do I update bios . I'm just messing with 3 or 4 old dell d830 .I'm a beginner

    • @ChrisFixTec
      @ChrisFixTec  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Mike, It's always better to update to the latest BIOS before upgrading to Windows 10 and/or replacing the CPU. You might have to install a few drivers manually if you install Windows 10 from scratch (I don't really remember if it's the case with D830).

    where did you download the wifi card intel 4965agn DRIVER from, thanks?

    • @ChrisFixTec
      @ChrisFixTec  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I downloaded it on the intel website, but it's not available anymore. You can still found it here, for example : driverscollection.com/?H=Wireless%20WiFi%20Link%204965AGN&By=INTEL
      With Windows 10 64bits, I use the Windows 7 64bits v13.3.0.137. Run it in the compatibility mode (right click on the file, select properties and then compatibility tab)
      After installing the driver, to avoid problems when the computer wake up after sleep mode, go to device manager, double click on you wifi card, select "power management" tab and disable "Allow this device to wake the computer"

      I wouldn't recommend a D830 for serious gaming. Maybe old MS-DOS games? NES/SNES emulation? That's about it.
