Any time you change out your processor you should clean and replace the thermal compound. This will help ensure the proper dissipation of excess heat produced by the processor.
Thanks! I'll be upgrading my processor this weekend...
thanks, it helps me very much to replace CPU very easy
Great explanation and Video right up to the point where you put the heat sync back on without cleaning it or the CPU and replacing the thermal compound. Kiss the CPU bye bye in a month or less. I always use MG Chemicals 150g Silicone Heat Transfer Compound after cleaning the heat sync and the CPU till they are spotless.
Lol....Kiss it Goodbye!
@vicnoserac Replacing the processor in the Dell Latitude D820 will be very similar to replacing the processor in the Dell Latitude D630.
@mprintz2010 There is nothing about thermal paste and thermal pads. How to clean, what to clean, what not to touch, how to reapply, etc. Only that.
Btw, I've changed dozens CPU's. Video is still good, for everything else.
extremely helpful, thank you
Very usefull. Thanks!
It will be very similar but not the same. You could use this video as kind of a guide with a few minor tweaks. Unfortunately the D820 cannot use Core 2 Duo processors.
I just used this video to figure out how to get the case taken apart for a Dell D531 pretty much the same setup - Thank you so much! It was the blasted keyboard screws that had me stuck. :0)
Thank you! Nice video!
thanks for the answer...great channel
thank you!
man I had to use brute force the get the touch pad bezel off, man it was like glued in there maybe from overheating as the old D630 I had always shut down from heat trouble. I did get it apart 'cause I needed to use the 2.2ghz CPU to replace my 1.8ghz I'm now using, tyvm for this vblog, even though I missed one screw in the upper left corner
If you have a Dell latitude D630 you should be able to upgrade to the T7700 or the T7800 CPU's.
Thanks a lot
thank you professeur
actually this is all worth it
faster processor makes daily routine a lot easier
It appears the palm rest piece covers the heatsink, which must be removed obviously to access the CPU. IDK 100% yet though, have yet to disassemble this one.
Thanks!
What's the max CPU a D630 can handle? I heard it was a T9500.
I'm planning on upgrading mine from a T7100 to a T7500 or T9300, will I notice a big difference going from 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz or 2.5GHz? Also, you took off the cables for the LCD and wireless card, why is that necessary? Can I just unplug the LCD cables and leave the screen on the laptop or is it necessary to take the screen off?
Does this replacement process work for the Dell latitude D820 as well? Also, my D820 runs a Intel core duo processor, but there are none available online anywhere. Would a Core 2 duo suffice and run the laptop correctly?
It would appear that it is compatible. I don't have one to test so I can't tell you for sure.
where is the bios "IC" in the motherboard?
En pleno 2022 le he puesto un intel T9300 a mi Dell 630 y corre Windows 10, navega y ejecuta el office que da gusto: suave, suave y rapido!!!
I like that thanks
can i change the Intel t7100 for a t9500? the bios is A17..thanks for the video :D
i subscribe
It isn't enough to remove the keyboard to get the processor??
i have an Inspiron 1720. I'd like to upgrade from a T5750 cpu to a T9900. Can i just change out memory from the 667? to the required 1066?..?
@vicnoserac The two systems should be similar.
What is the name of the processor replaced?, i want to find it but i dont know. And can you suggest the best processor? So my laptop can be faster
Unfortunately the D630 only takes Core 2 Duos.
What about thermal compound?
No thermal paste?
You can use T8000 and T9000 series Cpus - I just upgraded to a T9300 on a Dell D830 working fine, heat ok but only downside is the 1066 bus speed wont be attained but it is faster and has more cache and you can possibly use PC2-6400 memory.
Core 2 Duo T9300
SLB47 (C0)
SLG8N (C0)
SLG9F (E0)
2 2.8 GHz 6 MiB 1066 MT/s 10.5× 1.050-1.162 V
35 W
Socket P July 2008
AW80576GH0726M
$530
If it was a D830 it would be able to use Core 2 Duos but the D820 cannot. The D820 can only use Core Duos and Core Solos.
@tarassu What about it? It is always best to clean off the CPU and apply new paste, but there should be enough paste on the heatsink for the new cpu. You'll see when you do it.
Add New Paste!
Thanks for the time, and I see you posted taht the D630 only takes core 2 duos, so there is there any other, preferably more powerful, processors that could be used in the D820?
T9500 CPU, 8gb Ram, & an SSD! you'll be Flyin!
@lentmain Unfortunately the Dell Inspiron 1720 only takes the 667 MHz SODIMM DDR2 RAM. It will also only except the following processors:
Intel® Core™ Duo
Intel Core Solo
Intel Celeron® M
how come none of these experts mention that dell d 630 actually has a thermal pad betwen the cpu and heatsink? (guess why it needs a pad and not paste )
You wouldn't happen to know where I can find the full CPU support list for the D630 would you? Specifically with the A19 bios update installed.
Mine currently has a T7250 and it's unbelievably slow even when I do a reboot over into Puppy Linux.
maybe but when I upgraded the bios from A4 to A19 it didn't do much to improve the speed I found A19 from google
I know. For me it only fixed that annoying keyboard bug.
And I did find the list. The highest chip support is a T9500 or a T7800.
(800mhz FSB 2.6ghz)
From what I've seen it can handle PC4200 or PC5300, 533mhz or 667mhz. Dell says it maxes out at 4gbs but I think with a 64 bit OS you could do 8gbs.
Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my dell d630 laptop. Where do you get the new bios upgrade? Can you help me out?
Dell support!
1. The D630 cannot use an i series processor. It can use Core 2 Duo processors with 2mb cache and 800Mhz bus speed.
2. If you use a 64bit operating system, it can use more than 4gbs of RAM (i believe up to 8gbs) but with a 32bit system it maxes out at 4gbs.
3. It will be able to use a 320hdd. The graphics card is built onto the motherboard and is not upgradable.
4. Finally, the processor and the RAM do not have to be changed at the same time.
what processor is it?
I have installed Linux Mint 18.3 on my Dell D630 My understanding is the bios needs to be upgraded to A 19 to upgrade the cpu. My bios is at A 3. Is the bios upgrade doable w/ LM installed or should I reinstall xp to do the bios upgrade then reinstall LM.
You will need to launch the BIOS update in Windows.
Thanks for the response. :)
I have Dell D630 and planning to upgrade the HDD,Processor and RAM.
What is the maximum capacity for HDD,Processor and RAM?
And what type of processor should I buy?
My processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 cpu T7200 @ 2.0GHz
Thank you
+Bharathkumar Yadav Here are all the processors that we have available and know are compatible with the D630. www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=140&subid=150&refine=cpu+processor
T7500 on the CPU, 8gb on the Ram, then drop an SSD in there!
Dell D630 punya saya
HDD upgrade ke SSD 256 GB ATA Device.
Memory upgrade ke DDR2 2GB
Rencana akan upgrade CPU core2 duo ke CPU 7800.
Can I upgrade my Dell d630 from T7300 cpu to T7800 or T7700. ?
Thanks for you Help!
Yes!
Could you upgrade to a Core 2 Extreme?
No it cannot.
Would it be possible to change a processor like this but attach a i3,i5 or i7 processor on this computer?
No!
Dell D630 Lat. Laptop for 60 bucks, 8gb Crucial PC5300 memory for 120, 200 for Crucial solid state drive, the look on peoples face when they go and spend 1500 bucks and it takes them 10 times as long to boot to the internet = Priceless!
I did everything just like the video, replaced the CPU, put it back together, but now my Display is all Scrambled,...Help?
I would suggest using an external display to troubleshoot your issue. If it displays correctly that would indicate your problem is not the screen itself and the display cable may be loose or going bad.
it makes the computer run too hot, and drains battery in like 45 minutes, the 8300 is the best processor to use on the Santa Rosa Platform
go to Dell's website, it is the A19 BIOS upgrade I believe, do the BIOS upgrade, the processor, do the 8gb of ram, and get yourself a nice hdd or even better a ssd, and you will be in business, I suggest using the 8300 or 8500 processor, all the other processors that are faster, use to much battery power, and cause to much heat and that is not worth the little bit of extra processor speed that you might notice
Yes, Dell has released a new Bios Upgrade, I have 8gb Ram, Looking to do a processor now
That u?
Upgraded the CPU in a "Dell Latitude d630 Laptop"..... I think I Toasted my display, ....I took the battery out, but didn't hold down the start button down for 20 seconds to get juice out before working on it. Then I upgraded CPU, now display has vertical & horizontal lines running thru it,.... went back to old CPU and same problem, swapped out the motherboard & same problem,... installed a new cable from motherboard to display, same problem, hooked up a VGA desktop display, & that one was fine,... So I think the display is Toast!.....Help?....Any Ideas?
Based on your troubleshooting I would suspect the screen is the issue. Especially if you're confident the new video cable is functional.
@@dellpartspeople Update....I just hooked up two different desktop monitors with the VGA connection.....Both desktop monitors won't come on? Still vertical lines on laptop....
If you initially got an external display to work but now you cannot, I would suspect the motherboard is the reason.
From the specs I've seen it can use a Core 2 Duo with 800mhz bus and 2mb cache. The T9500 has 6mb cache so I don't believe it's compatible.
Update the BIOS then drop in a T9500
Did you know Dell D630 able to change CMOS battery or not?
Yes!
cant i use a different cpu? like core i5 or i3
+Avi Parmar It can only use Core 2 Duos. i Series CPUs are too new.
No!
is it possible to add desktop cpu in laptop ?
No, they use different types of CPUs.
thanks
No!
If you're still here what is the maximum supported processor in the D30
I'm not sure. I don't have a list of CPUs but people have been listing them in the comments.
Thank you for responding I hope you have a good day Keep making videos
T7500 on the CPU!
La pasta termica no existe. Jeje
What about thermal paste? No visual explanation at all.
Add New Thermal Paste!
ram 4gb?
@@NervousNick 4gb max
I did this upgrade, now laptop will not fire up I did this to the letter any suggestions would be appreciated I upgrade to T9400 now will not even power up
Dell D630 bios 17
Bad chip put old one back in she fired right up
From my research, some people are saying to not go higher than t9300 on the D630. Has something to do with the 800 mhz FSB clock speed of the D630 maybe. Also, looks like there is an A19 bios as of sometime in 2013. I don't think that would fix this issue though. Looks like the T9500 has a 800 mhz bus clock but 6 meg l2 cache and I don't know if the bios will run that or not.
I put wrong chip went with T9300 all works great thanks for the video very much couldn't of done without you God bless
Way too much hassle for what would likely be a minimal performance gain.
It's only a hassle if you are either lazy, incapable or both.
