Coastal Road: Landmark's Properties Were Not Destroyed, Shoreline Was Illegally Subletted - Umahi

  • President Tinubu instructed that two factors must take prominence in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal road, the fear of God and a human face, and that is what we have done, in some cases, we have followed the gazetted route and in some cases, we have had to make hard decisions by realigning to the coastal line. Unlike Peter Obi while he was governor in Anambra, the Tinubu administration is showing mercy by paying compensation for structures illegally erected on the right of way for the coastal road
Sen. Dave Umahi, Minister of Works

The resort landmark created is a pride for us as Nigerians just as dangote refinery is a pride. This is not politics though they have turned it into politics. We want to come with our foreign friends to Lagos and show them the beauty. With practically every sector in Nigeria falling below indices, why the necessity of this wasteful project? Stable electricity? No. Meaningful living wage? No. Oil/Food production? Little to none. So basically the country has nothing in the immediate works to provide economic boost that will offset (even if partially) the cost of major projects such as this. This coastal highway that will supposedly open up commercialization will cost upwards of N15t and at take least 8 years to complete, so expect a minimum of 10 years (optimistically) before the realization of any benefits (assuming all other factors hold). It is simply inconducive to embark on a project this massive when we're plagued by so many other factors that have left the economy in the doldrums.
Moreso, a coastal highway does not mean it must be built literally on the coast. I'm not a civil engineer, but I do know any structure you build on a coastal area will require the use of much more material and will be more labor intensive just to combat the effects of the ocean and rising sea levels furthermore adding to the overall cost.

Did you see the video of the trailer that toppled over crossing deep water on what is supposed to be the Benin-Auchi express way? If it is in infrastructure, security, economy, uniting Nigerians, I think God has helped him to do very well in each and every one of them,” he said during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.” How can we believe what anything he says?

Peter Obi was Governor of Anambra State more than 9 years ago. You are presumably rehabilitating deplorable roads done by past federal governments and most of those dilapidated roads happen to be in the neglected South East. Majority of those bad federal roads are still there and begging for rehabilitation. I must commend you for being the best performing Minister under President Tinubu. We are very proud of you. He used Buhari to fight Obi and other southeast governors and ndi lgbo as whole as a governor now he is using Tinubu to fight Obi and to extension southeast. Recently he went to the extent of saying that Ebonyi people doesn’t belong to Ohaneze ndi lgbo just to please his political slave master Buhari because Ohaneze didn’t support Buhari and Tinubu. Peter Obi didn’t call his name or anyone’s name in his tweet over coastal road but he is here calling his name. Can someone please educate me on the importance of this road to our development? There are vital important roads that impact on our economic development that are currently dilapidated and have become death traps to humans and vehicular traffic eg the Ibadan/Akure Road, a vital link road to the FCT and the northern axis.

Why dont they use that money to build a nmodern train from lagos to the East. That makes more econimical sense. And if I may ask how many people live along that axis that will be plying that road everday, how many traffic will it generate. I dont know how many lagosians who work in those coastal cities and vice versa. As far as am concerned this is a misplaced priority, why dont they use that money to develop a robust river transport using modern ferries along these coastal cities instead.

That is where you are getting it wrong. And these things have been successfully executed because he plants his boys as governors and they follow the master plan he has drawn for lagos and that is the man you want to compare to peter obingo and atiku.
