No Personal Interest Associated With Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway - Umahi

  • The ingenuity of the coastal road came from President Tinubu when he was governor. He procured the right of way on the Lagos corridor and gazetted it. If you want to come out of inflation you have to prioritize investments in infrastructure, this project will address elements of return on investments.
Sen. Dave Umahi, Minister of Works

My opinion is based on the fact that their guest has proven and kept proving logically and sensibly that he knows his onions.

Rufai was just doing his job. Which is "ask the questions while the minister answers"
If you pay attention to Rufai's questions, you will learn 1 or 2.
In other words, you should concentrate more on applauding the minister for responding well which shows he actually knows the in and out of what he is doing.
Remember, the minister included the Rail line gauge in his design as a yardstick to show superiority to the other design. However, the cost for that rail line was not included. Technically, that rail line guage alone might gulp 2times the current budget.
There is no time for politics here.

He dodged the question on fairness of bidding. High Tech might be the best company to handle the project but why was it not open to others? So that we could have seen the openness of the bidding process. Why the Government felt HighTech has the competence, therefore, others weren’t. I think that is why His Excellency Atiku Abubakar drown his conclusions that it was a friendship contract between His Excellency, President Ahmed Tinubu and the Contractor.

Fantastic Minister. I like the openness and the willingness to engage and debate his decisions. That is the only way a nation can develop.
This does not mean that his decision on Landmark Beach is right. He doesn't have the technical know-how to comment on the Economic and environmental impact of the project. What is Landmark without the beach?

If a minister could successfully enter the den of Arise and came out applauded, it means that he is in good hands. One of the ministers to watch out for. I also see him as a president after Tinubu 8 years of God permits.

Kudos to Engr Umahi, I have watched his interview with Channel tv and now Arise tv on this same project. And we can see that he has projected a lot of confidence in his ability to oversee a project of this magnitude. As an Engineer he has demonstrated his proficiency of been able to explain the technicalities of the road project according to his design, to ensure the quality and cost effectiveness of the project. This is why it is necessary that ministerial portfolios are given to experts who has the competence to handle each sector rather than just given ministerial positions to Lawyers. As an Engr myself, I congratulate him on his efforts so far in the ministry of works. However, my concern is that can the APC Government carry out this ambitious project and ensure that it is completed before the end of their administration.

Deepite my reservations, i still like how this man knkws his job and the confidence and preparedness he shows. He is doing the work and not just a figure head that has interns and subordinates doing the job.
