I just watched it again for the first time in years, and I totally agree. He really exemplified the unassuming, gentle nature of the folk, and he was manipulable because he didn't understand the situation, not because he was some cowering little man. One of the best minor characters in film
Every nominee was great in their role, but np country for old man became a instant classic, great performances from every role, he played such a sinister character👏🏼
Javier would make a great bus driver. "Is that your quarter? That quarter is from 1995 it has been traveling for 22 years just to get here. You have a choice to make...do you want a transfer or not?
came here while watching No Country For Old Men, he was sterilising his gunshot wound in the bath and I was thinking to myself like... "there's no way this guy didn't win some sort of award for acting this transcendently"
In Brazil, a group of psychiatrists watched a list of films to analyze the character who most showed symptoms of psychopathy. Javier's character in this movie was what everyone showed to have a psychopathic profile. Javier's interpretation was perfect. One of the characters he beat was Hannibal Lacter.👺
I wonder what it feels like to be considered Oscar-worthy and watch yourself on screen? Do you think that they can even enjoy the movies they're in? Would you?
What an amazing lineup of actors. I have to say that right on Javier Bardem's heels was Tom Wilkinson in Michael Clayton. If you've never seen it, do yourself a solid and watch it. It is a magnificent flick.
The fact that they had to choose between No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood for those awards is no short of agonizing. That must have been hell. What a year for movies.
For those of you without volume, he said: "Everything. Long in the short places, short in the long places. It should be both from the future and from the past. Like something a child would do to a doll."
That year, everybody had a crush on Javier Bardem, but I loved the most Hal Holbrook. If that performance doesn't break your heart, nothing will. I know it must be bizarre, but I wish Mr. Holbrook could have another oscar nomination. He seems to be still working even though he's over 90.
I can watch clips of The Silence of the Lambs now and go ho hum... But I can hardly bring myself to watch any Anton Chigurh clips because he's so freaking terrifying.
i didn’t realize how great of a lineup it was this year. absolutely loved PSH here, and hal halbrook completely tore my heart out in into the wild, but i think at the same time it was kind of no-contest when it came to a performance like bardiem’s. it was something that pushed the envelope when it came to the idea of a villain. i feel like it was kind of like forcing to see a fear we all might have to confront one day. needless to say, all performances were fantastic.
Honestly he deserves to be nominated in "Leading Role" category, probably Academy wants to award both Daniel Day Lewis and Javier Bardem for their incredible performance I.e. they put him in Supporting Category.
I really wish there was a way to give them longer speech time. Maybe cut out the segments with the host and just keep it an awards show. When it's a standout performance, or the highlight of your career, you really need more than 45 seconds to talk about it and the winners are oftened too stunned to speak. A lot of times the backstage interviews are more interesting than the ceremony, because it really starts to sink in that a filmmaker won and it'll never get taken away. Just wish there could be a way of, I dunno, maybe conducting a day after ceremony/luncheon with the winners and opening up a discussion into how it turned out that way or how the films might be remembered now that they have achieved excellence status.
He was scary as hell in that movie. Such a well deserved Oscar.
RobotYoshimis I agree. And you're scary ass hell in this picture.
He was PAID to be so scary :))
Coz this is Richard
A segue, but Aphex Twin-fucking awesome.
@@huhuruz77 as all actors get paid to be whatever they are asked to act as

livia1881 I had a nightmare after watching this guy in that movie, that the mafia & him were after me. Scary shit
You don't have to worry about the mafia.
Wait until u meet me Mike. Your gonna have nightmares alright. Just wait....
Just recently watched it for at least the 8th time...it's so odd to hear him speak in a fast Spanish accent after watching No Country for Old Men lmao
livia1881 A fly would scare the shit out of you in the daytime your such a wuss.
i would like to see him in a Tarantino film
wow great idea. yes please.
i would like to see him in another coen bros film
But Tarantino's movies have a lot of talking

incredible performance.
I thought he was the actor from into the wild :v

Javier definitely deserved that Oscar! His performance in No Country For Old Men was nothing short of incredible!
Based on the clips I thought the old guy shoulda won

Javier’s Anton Chigurh performance is one of the best acting performances in the movie history! He %100 deserved it!
Awesome actor well deserved...And a dedication to his mother in his native language, simply BEAUTIFUL 👏🏽😭
His reaction is perfect. He is one of the best actors of our time.
This Oscar ceremony was damn efficient. He gave a terrific acceptance speech and behaved like a boss with great dignity. Love this guy.
he was a scary dude in that movie. pure phycopath

What an amazing bunch of actors nominated that year. Bardem thoroughly deserved it though, no country for old men gives me shivers every time
One of the best Oscar speeches I've ever seen. And in two different languages
that hal holbrook scene... damn. It's all in the eyes. That's some great acting
+Mobley Hernandez Yeah, I remember watching that film for the first time and that scene really just caught me off guard.
+TopDog69 totally agree... he knows the kid ain't coming back.
Mr.Holbrook is an immortal man/actor.
That scene always tear my heart apart...
It's so amazing that the scariest guys on camera are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in real life.
He is really scared by his performance in that movie. He absolutely deserves this oscar. Best performance ever.😍😘
Javier won Best Supporting Actor and DDL won Best Actor for There Will Be Blood that same year. What a fucking year in performances.
This was an insane performance. Ive had nightmares about Chigurh
Every nominee was great in their role, but np country for old man became a instant classic, great performances from every role, he played such a sinister character👏🏼
Javier Bardem is one of my favorite actors - very versatile.
this is the most deserved oscar in oscar history
No damn character has actually made me feel uneasy like Anton Javier nailed it

Javier Bardem's Silva is the BEST Bond villain since 1989's Franz Sanchez. 007 fan and collector since 1981.
Fred Scuttle nah he was good his character was ridiculous
have to agree, one of the best roles played in a movie, ever

Absolutely. His performance was flawless.
Well deserved Oscar and moving speech (the part in Spanish). Great actor+great guy!
fuck he nailed that role!
One of the best actors of all times!!!! He plays everything and he doesn't have prejudices about characters and nudity.
now that's what an oscar speech ought to be!
Translating" Ive eaten paellas everywhere, but yours are the best mum"
No. . . that is not what he said.
ahahaha
Not even close.

javier bardem scared me in that role!!!!
Javier Bardem deserved that award but Tom Wilkinson... oh my. He is so awesome in Michael Clayton! :)
In Brazil, a group of psychiatrists watched a list of films to analyze the character who most showed symptoms of psychopathy.

I love Josh brolin cheering him on like a proud dad
If Javier is in a film, I go.

Came here to just tell myself he is just an actor.. And the character is not real.. Boy he gave a scary and haunting performance!!
The best film of that decade.
I wonder what it feels like to be considered Oscar-worthy and watch yourself on screen? Do you think that they can even enjoy the movies they're in? Would you?
The first guy looked kind of embarrassed his scene was pretty stupid
no actor likes to watch himself. Actually many of them don't ever watch their movies. You can take a look at some THR roundtables with actors :)
vesocsm I know they say that, but that's because they can't come off as being vain.
Sam Jackson watches his movies
Probably tough to enjoy

GRAN ACTUACION BARDEM!! MAESTRASO!!
A truly scary character that, despite his profession, you don't want to see killed....And there was NO spoiler in that comment.
The fact that they had to choose between No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood for those awards is no short of agonizing. That must have been hell. What a year for movies.
That was such an incredible year for movies.
The man earned it he made the character terrifying
Case in point of this man's acting calibre: his role as a psychopath had no accent.
Little bit, but I think it added to the character.
MIL FELICIDADES JAVIER !!!! ERES UN GRAN ACTOR...Y LOS HAS DEMOSTRADO AL GANAR TU OSCAR.......TE MANDO BESOS Y ABRAZOS........
Just call it.....heads or tails....call it....
The fact he dedicates it to his mother is amazing. But can anybody please translate what he said?
He dedicated the Oscar to his mother and ancestors, he comes from a long line of great actors.
Very impressive adversaries in this award. I guess at least three deserved the Oscar at that time as well...
Just watched the movie, didn't know he got an Oscar for it but holy shit he was incredible in that role
i really love him i think he deserved it
Bardem looks like Negan to me.
X2
Who gets the Oscar?
Call it!
I cant believe that his role is consider as supporting, imagine the movie without him
Imagine he says, "If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?" to the other nominees. XD
this is a great comment!
Now that's a multi dimensional actor!

It would be great if someone wrote a comment saying what he said in Spanish.
