SHEFFY and Macky initially met online, speaking for years until they finally met in person. When they did, they had a whirlwind wedding, mainly so Canadian Sheffy could live in the US with Macky. Speaking to Truly, Sheffy explained: "We knew we wanted to get married anyway so we thought why not do it sooner rather than later?" But both of their families have expressed concerns about the relationship, particularly as they come from different cultural backgrounds - Macky is from a Christian family in the Southern US and Sheffy's parents are Muslims from Bangladesh. Macky explained: "My family, they're concerned about the cultural differences between the two different religions." It even led to Macky's mum carrying out a background check on Sheffy. In this episode of Love Don't Judge, the pair will meet with Macky's cousin, Austin, to hear his thoughts on the relationship. Reflecting on their journey, Sheffy said: "All the things that we face, I feel like other intercultural relationships face."

Honestly this is a good example of why I can't marry anyone with a stupid or crazy family. I have no patience for nonsense.
Some of us have chosen to completely leave our unhealthy families. But then there is usually discomfort as to why we aren't speaking to our blood family members. It's so difficult to survive a super toxic, traumatized family system, and sometimes it feels like you can't win as far as how people view you, whether you stay or leave.

Seems like racial bias to me, not racism per se. I hate when people blame everything on race, But in this case I do agree that it’s racial bias. At least for most people. Most people wouldn’t think a white woman from Canada wants a green card.
Though I will say that it does feel like to meet more people who have brown skin are more likely to want to come to the US than just somebody who comes from a majority white country. My feeling may be incorrect, and I’m open to be disproven. But that’s a side point anyway.
Oh yeah, and also I have additional points/question. You’re calling it racism, though I disagree with that term per se, are you saying that the white people are “racist“ or the Muslim people too? A lot of people will answer that question and say both families are being racist, but I would say most of them have their initial accusations being directed at the white people until they’re asked a question and they have to think about it and realize there’s really no difference between the two different families.

As an American no one from America is suspicious of a Canadian regarding green card issues. Any other country, sure, but not Canada. We practically consider Canadians American ourselves. And some Americans are trying to get Canadian citizenship so we don't bat an eye abut Canadians. I've never heard of a Canadian seeking out an American for citizenship. In my personal opinion Canadians have universal healthcare so that to me is a pro to remain in Canada.

I was in an interracial relationship when I was 17 until I was 19 and his mom sat me down to tell me I can't marry him for citizenship or his money(they weren't rich and we were both born in South Africa) to the point where I had to private my social media . Mind you I am university educated with at least 2 generations of masters /phd candidates in my family and I was the "gold digger" while my ex and his new gf just have high school diplomas. Exactly..I'm Malay n it is our tradition for families to have a background check on the potential partner. Our parents would send some elderly people to do the job. It is called merisik or espionage in English. But nowadays this tradition is not widely practiced anymore because young people tend to choose their own partners n sure enough, a lot of problems arise due to lack of espionage n the divorce rate is very high.
