My take is that many gamers _do
_ take bullshit. The players that have come of age in the last... 5 or 10 years? They've never known anything _other_ than bullshit so they think it's normal.
The gamers who don't take bullshit gravitate towards quality and value, which tends to put them mostly in the indie space, and nowhere near modern AAA.
HD2 pulled _those_ gamers in by being both good and respectful, and then when Sony tried to add the bullshit a community with a high percentage of those gamers is quick and forceful to call foul.

I have ps5 but I still prefer pc because anytime any new technology hardware that boost my gaming experience I can just open my pc replace some part to upgrade it on which you can't really do in consoles unless you wait and buy the latest version which is not economical compare to just changing existing parts inside your computer

@@tr1bes Sony has been porting their biggest games on PC for years. Why? Because it MAKES MONEY. Extra money that that they need because of ever increasing game development costs. Do you honestly think that a corporation that has to please shareholders is suddenly going to stop porting their games to PC out of spite and lose out on all that extra profit? It's pretty clear where the future is going. And, it's prretty clear why Sony backed down on Helldivers.

Well, they can draw out the white flag and make a truce with terms satisfying both sides. They can provide extra stuff if they want a player to link a PSN account like it was done multiple times before with other games
They will do the exact same thing with the next game (ghost of tsushima) only they wont make the mistake of allowing a temporary lift of the rule at launch. The only reason they walked back with HD2 is because steam refunding and pulling the game from the store and the dispcrepancy with the E.U.L.A on sony's side.

Good thing Lord Gaben started giving out refunds. Steam would have charged Sony for it. There's also the class action lawsuit from the locked out countries with consumer protection laws.

Guys we need to keep up the pressure because Sony is still requiring you to create a Playstation network account if you want to play the multiplayer mode in Ghost of tsushima which releases next month on Steam. They have not caved in or back down at all and they are still thinking that we want this game so badly that we will just give in and sign up for this account. It's time to send a final message to Sony and prove them wrong by not pre-ordering ghost of tsushima and not buying the game until they remove the requirement from all Sony games moving forward

Create the psn account. Sony is going to require it for games going forward because it was supposed to be implemented but arrowhead turned it off because of the severs.
I don't want Sony to stop porting single player games to PC if Ghosts bombs. Creating an account is a WAY better alternative than having to buy a 550 USD stupid box for a few games.
@87crimson They're not going to stop porting ANY games. Sony's plans are pretty clear, and they're moving to bring more & more to PC.
They're a business, and money matters most. They've been very transparent about how much their profit margins have been cut, and even MS has said the console market is not growing anymore (the overall market, not their own consoles).
Sony needs to expand their audience to cover these expensive games. They even bought a studio just to develop PC ports.
Don't support crappy practices just because you're afraid you won't get more games if you don't.

Last year, I got Jedi Survivor, and it wouldnt play because of a problem with EA's BS launcher, not showing the game. Fortunately, enough people complained and they fixed it. This has to end. I want to get a game and just play dammit.

One thing overlooked in the PSN account vs the others. Sony wanted a photo of our government issued ID or passport; a valuable piece of data for identity theft given their record of 8 breaches in the last 10 years. If they are collecting biometric and govt IDs I can see why they get hacked so often. If they had tossed in some free exclusive DLC and only needed an email address like most of the 3rd party signups they probably would have had an easier time. Some of us don't even let Steam have our ID or store any credit cards info for faster checkout (no one should).
That applies to UK only as far as I know due to British laws.
It's not required in majority of other places including EU.
The bigger overlooked issue in the whole debacle was that Sony essentially would've broken EU laws against geo-locking a product/service since PSN is unavailable in three EU states as well as at least one non-EU state that's still included in the policy (Liechtenstein if I remember correctly).
And while the gears of EU beaurocracy can be slow, they're relentless when it comes to corpos like Sony, Apple, Microsoft, etc.
I'm old enough to remember people's outrage when Steam first dropped, and now it's the only launcher most PC gamers use. The difference is that Valve has a pretty good track record as far as protecting their user's privacy, and Snoy absolutely doesn't.
On another note about console gamers standing up, it worked with Xbox a few years back. They were planning to increase prices for their service, to much outcry, and Microsoft reversed the decision just days later.
Don Matrick and the wigs that wanted a DRM monstrosity caused Xbox's downfall.

Can 100% confirm I am no longer planning on buying ghost of Tsushima if it has mandatory PSN linking. I didn’t know a PSN was required until this weekend. The helldivers debacle changed my mind.

The PC market is consistently 80% of the Helldivers in the game. That's what I call reliable.
And it is easy to figure out the breakdown. Go in the game. Write down helldivers active number. Go to Steam active players game top 100 list. Subtract that number from helldivers active. The remainder is PS players.
Over the weekend even with PC players up in arms it was around 80/20 PC to PS.
Once again PC gamers PS buying game more than PS fanboys.

PS: The worst part of this debacle was Sony trying to Force Players from Ukraine to buy a PS4 or PS5 to link their Steam Helldivers to a PSN account (even though PSN is available in Ukraine) FKNG shocking.

Even if this worked its necessary to keep on the pressure as Sony may eventually revert and change the thing they said they wouldn't. Be on the lookout and stay vigilant.
Also, Sony Pony's accept anything Sony tells them, they can screw them over royally and they'll gladly bend over and enjoy the screwing, including having their wallets raked dry.
Sony still needs to be held accountable for their actions. As the publisher they allowed Steam to sell the game to countries that don't have access to PSN for three months when the PSN requirement was intended from the start. Intentional or not, they'll liable for fraud.

As someone without a PC but with a PS5, I dont underatand being mad that Sony pulled back their choice. This is a wonderful change and, as a Sony player, I hope Sony is learning a lesson. They censor and curate too much of our experiences and ask for FAR too much control.
I've been big in the Division series and played both games on a daily bases for a decade. But since Ubisoft decided to simply DELETE a product from customers UPlay library, I am certainly NOT buying Division 3 or Anno or any other product from them anymore. They deleted themselves with this action.

Last year when people dared Gaijin to permanently shutdown Warthunder, back in 2015 when Valve wanted to paywall mods and 2007, I think, when Microsoft wanted to make PC online multiplayer a pay feature like in console.
Those are the past times that I can recall when the PC community told the megacorps to shove it up their asses and the megacorps backtracked.
ghost of tsushima on steam says "Requires 3rd-Party Account: PlayStation Network (Online Multiplayer, PlayStation overlay) (Supports Linking to Steam Account)" Sony will not give up on idea of pc account linking for user influx. They just let you pass on HD2.
Ghost only needs it for online, so if you don't plan on playing online, you can ignore it.
Edit: Nope, Sony fucks up once more. Even though it's a mostly SP game, just because parts of it is PSN required, the same 170+ country restriction applies...

One thing that might be a slight inaccuracy in this. I think it was Steam who was delisting the game in regions that didn't support PSN because they knew this shit storm was going to get even worse if Sony decided to double down. So it made it easier to flip the switch off and start issuing refunds for people in those regions who wanted it, while also not having people buying the game that they might have to issue more refunds for. Pretty sure that was not an indicator of Sony doubling down, but Valve covering their asses while Sony figured their shit out.
Im proud of us as gamers. Consumers are still mostly tools.

As a console gamer myself i was disgusted by this malarkey. Only reason i didnt cancel my PS subscription is because i bought the year long package and its not due again until November. Canceling it now would only be a waste of the $50 i spent 6 months ago. After i heard about them shutting down sales in countries that dont allow PS plus, i threw a 1 star review at em for helldivers 2 on PS store. I very pro consumer. I want as many people playing games as possible. I want crossplay. I passed up Stellar Blade because they censored it. Sony has struck out twice this year. One more and im selling my PS5 and going exclusively XBOX. I'd go PC, but im not tech savy enough to do it. And its a little bit too expensive. I could buy another rifle for the price of a decent gaming rig. Sony gained some respect by reversing this decision, but i know they wouldn't have if it wasn't for the backlash. Im proud of you tech nerds in the PC market. Good job! I despise Sony ponies. I will never understand brand loyalty. What a waste.

Sony inflating the psn numbers makes no sense. They could just say "this many PSN numbers plus this many steam players play our games per day"
Sony took a hit from the stellar blade situation as well as some purchases they did. People pissed off even more with the stellar blade at some point that started refunding their money to the point Sony was trying to stop. All this was for 2 reasons
1. as a retaliation for the Stellar blade
2. an attempt to gain as much PSN account info as they could so they could sell them to advertisors and patch up the losses of stellar blade and to cover their purchases.

People bought a game with certain expectations, and Sony had to censor it. And I have heard they have done it with a few other games too, this is just the biggest one to come out yet. Apparently the violence was tuned down as well. It's like pre-purchasing Gears of War, and all the gore was taken out. Stellar Blade is a rated M game, so whatever issues Sony has with it shouldn't matter, because children are not playing it

I WAS - past tense - going to buy Ghost of Tsushima when it launched on Steam. Not now. Yes, they are STILL saying on Sony and elsewhere that "PSN would ONLY be required for the online part of the game. The Single Player will NOT require it"... but they went and stealth changed their wording on Sony's FAQ regarding all Sony games on PC... who is to say that in a few months they won't turn around and demand all players - offline or on - be signed to PSN? Who is to say that, if that goes through with no fuss, they don't then say "Oh, but we're supporting this online so you need to go PS+ sub to play"...
No, I'm not buying another Sony game for a LONG ass time. As good as GoT looks, and as good as others have said it is... I can live without 1) my personal ID being required to start a PSN account (ffs, really? My Passport? O_O) AND 2) then waiting with baited breath for the next exciting Sony hack that spills my personal details all over the Dark Web. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll "suffer" not playing GoT or any other PC port of Sony's crap.
I've still not changed my down vote on Helldivers 2, nor reinstalled it yet, as the game is still de-listed in those 170 odd countries and players who WERE able to play from them currently can't. Also, Sony haven't made a definite statement that PSN will NEVER be required in HD2... they've just walked back the current "date set" to do so. Obviously they're looking for a better way or a smoother way to fool us into it.

Sony is always going to try to force a psn account on you, I think the executive team for Playstation all get a higher bonus based on psn user counts.
After this weekend, I am not interested in any Sony or PlayStation Studio published games. Not going to give money to people that ruined my weekend and wasted my time. I was totally willing to walk away from Helldivers 2 just to avoid linking to a PSN account, and this was after Steam refused to reimburse me.
I don't know if I wanted to link an easily hacked account to my Steam account
To be fair, a dev at Arrowhead did clarify that people in countries without PSN access would be exempt before the rollback. At the end of the day, I still liked the outcome and would rather not have to link my account.
The arrowhead discord needs to get their moderators and community managers in check some of them were literally falsely accusing people of sexual assault
Dont think sony learned anything cause they still plan on launching ghosts with the mandatory psn for online in a few weeks

Maybe then you wouldn't be stuck with $80 basic online, increased hardware prices 2 years AFTER launch, paying $10 upgrade fees for PS5 versions of PS4 games, "remakes" of remasters or 3 year old games, etc.
