Console exclusives are partly to blame for why video games are costing more to make and in turn more expensive for us as consumers. Shipping exclusively on a platform is preventing games from reaching more people on other platforms. And that's lost profit for the developers.

Most games are coming to PC because devs see the money to be made there, which is why I'll just wait for it to come to PC and if it doesn't then oh well I guess I just wont play it then, because I'm not gonna spend $550+ on a console for just 1-3 games

I'm the same age as this guy and I think consoles exclusives are garbage They were fine back then but not in today's world And consoles are holding back the gaming industry we should be seeing massive Worlds massive open-worlds but instead we have to cater to the stupid consoles .One of the things that really irritates me as we have 3 consoles right now the Xbox and Playstation cross platform games look exactly the same there's no noticeable difference Graphics or sounds Back in the 90s when NES Super NES And Sega and Atari we're locking horns there were noticeable difference in the cross platforms . And if Nintendo wants people To stop emulating their games then they should put all their old games onto the market for people to purchase and play . And there's absolutely nothing more cringe than having to pay to play online .

I have heard that Nintendo does not let you take digital games that you bought to the next platform like the old games, and Nintendo makes you re-buy those games if you wanna play em and that I think is a really bad business practice. ex. you buy Super Mario 3 on the Wii, you cant take it to the switch, you have to re-buy it on the switch.
That's probably why Nintendo hasn't ported any of their games to PC, because us PC players will not tolerate having to re-buy a game if we already own it.
Paying for online is wrong when you already pay your service provider for the internet and Nintendo, Xbox and Sony cant say its to maintain the services of these games when its actually the Developers that is maintaining the servers/services not Sony, Xbox or Nintendo. That is one of the reasons they use to try and justify to us why we should pay for Online MP.
The best thing about PC is the only fee you have to pay for is some MMO's like Warcraft for example buy most everything else is free
Pay to play online is the reason why I moved to PC after the ps3 generation. Sold my switch after they introduced the dumb Nintendo membership to play online multiplayer.
Nintendo needs to go back to PLAYING WITH POWER and give the developers better hardware to work with so they get more third party support and more games over 720p!!! Have a great day!!!
Most people have always hated exclusives, even when we were all younger. We didn't like seeing games we wanted to play only on one platform which forced you to waste money to buy another console you didn't want. With how things have changed, it makes me happy seeing exclusives releasing on other platforms as more people will be able to play and experience it. It's annoying that Returnal and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart are exclusive to the PS5 and I feel it's not worth wasting a lot of money for two games.
Its true and i Agree, most or alot of people have always disliked Exclusives in general and the main reason why some people defended exclusives is to feel special about their favorite companies and what games they can play on it. When the people who used to defend exclusives delved into extremes, they started creating these cult like communities which i have always found very ridiculous and disturbing.
it makes me happy as well seeing alot of exclusives going to different platforms because the games can be celebrated alot better with a bigger community and break boundaries in how we enjoy games with no limits. I also think its not worth spending money on consoles for specifically 2 or couple of games. I'd rather have a platform that can play variety of games.
Returnal was announced for PC and ratchet and clank will be ported to PC.

It's pro-consumer to buy "plastic box" you don't want to play 2-3 games you want to play lol. I could agree that like 20years ago "exclusives" make sense because of how different platforms were from each other (also their audience). But now only reason for games to be "exclusives" is money. Money from Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft or just lack of money (smaller studios).
Also any argument about "competition" is massive bulls*it because it's doesn't matter if game is exclusive or not, companies still compete with each other because if you could buy GOTY game like Elden Ring (action RPG) you probably won't buy Elex 2 (also Action RPG) that come out in like a week later (tbh Piranha Byte's RPGs are really good, especially Gothic series, you should try it, really, Risen or Elex were hated mostly because console ports were really bad, but on PC they're great).
I have played Risen and I liked it, but disliked Risen 2 for the combat and only played it for 5 mins and never touched it since. I do own the Gothic games all the Risen games and the first Elex game all on PC just haven't played em except for Risen 1 and Elex
Notice he gave no example of a game that benefited from exclusivity of a hardware. Because the potential examples are; Starfox 0, Arms, Kinect and Playstation Move games and 3D games on 3DS, all are trash.
There is one game that could perhaps be said to have benefitted from the Wii U setup. That is Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. It used the Wii U controller as the camera which was kinda fun. However, the current iterations of the game are just fine as well. It does not NEED the gimmick, which I think is true for most games. Oh and The World Ends with You also had a battle system that was reliant on the double screen system of the DS. So yeah, there are a few games out there that can use hardware gimmicks well, but I am still against exclusivity as a whole.

Console exclusives make sense from the point of view of the publisher without a doubt since it gives incentive for consumers to choose their platform over others but its definitely not pro consumer. I'm privileged enough to have a powerful PC, Switch, and PS5 that I bought over time saving money so I have all my bases covered but a majority of people have to choose one or the other. Fuck that

I did bring up the fact how they are anti-consumer and how if you want to play an exclusive game but miss out on playing with your friends then it's Anti-consumer because you are force to a pick a product you may or maybe not want especially since consoles can cost up to $500. So I was told then that Netflix and Disney+ are also Anti-consumer for their exclusives. So someone was comparing a gaming platform to a subscription service for TV and films.

At this point in the gaming community it would just be better cost effective to just get a PC because you can upgrade when you want and wait to buy games when they go on sale. Once you spend some time on PC and see there's no subscription service to play online, Upgrade when you want, the huge library of 100k+ games that you can get on sale and save a lot of money. Once you get that taste you'd be like I'm never going back to console.
I do know why some people still get consoles is because its just easier and less hassle which is fine. In my opinion Consoles are just more expensive overtime when you think about it, when they break you have to go and get a new one, the games barely ever goes on sale unless you go to a store and buy a used game, and the peripherals- headsets, controllers, etc are made so cheaply that your replacing them once every 6months to a year or so (depending on how well you take care of em)

I'm gonna go even more boomer mode here. Being born in 1985 is too young to notice the corporate landscape of gaming. By 1990, you are still 5 years old. Exclusive games then wouldn't have been on your radar and most likely you were happy with what you were given by your own parents. I was born in 1980. By 1990, I was fully aware of the console exclusives and the unfairness of it all. My friends and I used to talk about it almost every day to make a point about our console war. The most famous one was the Mortal Kombat. Nintendo lacking the blood and genesis having the blood code. When you're old enough, you did care about those differences. The dude in the video wouldn't have known that. If anything, he would have been one of those weird younger brothers who just followed someone older and not know wtf was going on.

This guy's mentality is part of why people don't like Linux, it's not doing the computer things like one expects so it's bad and it sucks vs "change the way you think your computer should react to you and you'll realize all software sucks".
The problem with Linux is the consumer experience and lack of on-call tech support.
Linux fundamentally demands you to have some level of tech savviness because the tech support is yourself, windows, apple and now chrome machines allow you to dump the problem on tech support guys and forget about it, that is something that people are willing to pay for, to don't be bothered to learn the kinks and intricacies of the machines.
@@carlosdgutierrez6570 Well, yeah, the average consumer has grown up with Windows, knows Google as the start page of the internet, and the Apple will take care of everything for you, all of which have mega corporations backing these products --their experience is those systems and familiarity is worth its wait in gold. I could take my Linux computer to any repair shop and they'd be able to run diagnostics on it just as well as they could for any other OS, maybe after learning about running diagnostics but w/e.
The problem with Linux is that no box store sells Linux computers so consumers have less of an option when it comes to purchasing them, not to mention the brand recognition that the other offerings get to enjoy and that because it's not the default option people will generally never try it. Linux has come a long way in terms of becoming more user-friendly, depending on the Distro, though the people who are more technologically inclined still refuse to use it because of edge cases (specifically talking about gaming and things like anti-cheat) before returning to what they know like some Stockholm syndrome victim. It's real easy to use Linux without ever using the terminal, I just don't because talking to my computer is more efficient than pointing and clicking.
The Steam Deck is dead simple to use and you can just send it back to Valve if something goes wrong. Now if only Epic had Linux support, I could give them head too, though there's all kinds of reasons for people to simp for corporations :/

one thing nobody seems to point out, back then consoles were completely different. Architecture, hardware, and how games were developed for it. Now a days all consoles except Nintendo because they at least innovate their hardware, are all the same XSX and PS5 literally hold mostly the same exact hardware and architectures lol.

Right now, this very second, I'm not thinking about much. Just thinking about what I'm actively doing, which is snacking on some grapes after midnight and downloading updates and stuff on my 3DS before the eshop closure (thanks a lot, Nintendo) while being curious to check out this video because I used to be in the "exclusives benefit the consumer" camp. I mainly changed my stance on that with the help of TH-camrs like you who give clear and rational reasons why exclusive games can be harmful for customers and are more-or-less an outdated concept in gaming.

I had only consoles from super nintendo to the ps4 and then I saw just how anti consumer sony was becoming heading into the next generation and I thought why the fuck do I want to get a ps5 just to play the next uncharted game? so i decided to get my first gaming pc instead and with the countless anti consumer moves sony keeps making I know I made the right choice Yes pc might cost more up front but look at ps5 when you add it all up scalper prices, then they increase the price 2 years into the consoles lifespan right when people might finally be able to actually buy one at msrp., $100 a game (here in canada) when a majority of these games are on gamepass day 1 or will eventually come to gamepass, extra controllers, paying to play online, ps now catalog is crap and overpriced, then you need to buy an ssd for more storage, what if your ps5 breaks, what happens to your digitial purchases 10 years from now? yes the same could be said for pc or any media but look at the backlash sony got when they tried to shut down the ps3 store + there will always be a way to preserve these games on pc the list to NOT buy a ps5 just keeps getting longer. I was mad when I saw just how many games were dirt cheap compared to what I had paid to play them on console, that I had wasted $100s just to play online and needed it for cloud saves because my ps4 storage filled up so fast. when you add up what you spend across an entire console generation you could probably buy multple high end pcs. I can never go back the only reason i still have my ps4 is because i need it as a media player and thats it. Im a boomer like this guy and used to love the console exclusive model becuse thats what I grew up on but times change exclusivity does not sell consoles anymore and sony is obviously realizing that with the ps4 catalog increasingly coming to pc now , and my approach to gaming has changed too I absolutely embrace this shift that we are seeing gaming is not a niche thing anymore gaming is and should always be for everyone the less barriers to entry the better.

Basically Crytek’s argument can be thrown out since simply put, Crysis 1 was an unoptimized mess, DICE’s argument can be tossed since it’s probably just hot air marketing & the 3rd one can also be binned because basically also owned by EA and that last one isn’t even talking about PC, but instead Next Gen consoles being held back by previous Gen consoles when your argument has been about PC “allegedly being held back by consoles”. Basically the games that are outright PC exclusive sure don’t push PC’s to their limits and the one that did (Crysis) was an unoptimized nightmare

Im 35 and been gaming since NES. Idk where this guy grew up but we definitely would sit around and talk about what games we wished were on Sega, Nintendo, SNES, Playstation, Nintendo 64 all the way up. Even now, it's still a thing. I think it always has been and always will be as long as exclusives are around.
I was thinking about how recently, from watching your videos that a Console ecosystem is destructive for the consumer because it really forces brand loyalty. Sony, Microsoft, nintindo are able to have full control over there entire ecosystem, with pc you get a free open market.

Since when is leaving a big portion of consumers out of the equation pro consumer? Exclusivity creates safe barriers for a Company, which in return creates a monopoly. Monopoly means that the company has full control over a game, including the cost of the game and the shity practices in it( like microtransactions, bugs on release etc). Thats why Tears of the kingdom costs 70 dollars one year later, and the sad part is that Nintendo fanboys are happy with the price and defend it. And I m not even a Nintendo hater, I have a switch along with my Pc.
Not really argue against doing away with exclusives but I did have a thought idea I wanted to see how others will. If a company decided to make a new console, BUT every single game cannot be install on it, therefor requiring a physical copy and they made that the selling point of their console, would exclusives be justified if they take the stance that they want their customers to own every game on their platform physically simply and purely out of that principle?

What about all the PC Exclusives...PC has more Exclusive games than Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Combined... games you can only play on PC
Exclusives have always been anti-consumer, always, at the very least back in the day, making ports was hard, so they had an excuse, that a port would be almost an entirely new game, but now, why do they even exist? I can understand that from Nintendo, they make their own games, it's still anti-consumer bullshit, but slightly more reasonable, what excuse do Microsoft and Sony have? They just buy out other companies and hold them hostage
