2023 rewatching this, i see so many changes happen to a smartphone world. Not only design have changed, but the device specifications also change rapidly following market demand, from tiny 2.8 inch screen to big 6" screen. Amoled HDR+ High refresh rate 120Hz. From 512, 1, 1.5, 2 until 12GB of ram supported single, double, Quad until 10 core processor and also bigger battery. And much more changed It's nice to rewatch this.
Bottom line: if you're into text messaging, emails and not much on games. Blackberry is for you. If you're into game apps, selfies or want to brag how rich you are, iPhone is the best phone for you.
Got my blackberry Z10 yesterday, I must say I do not regret buying it. Amazing device if you use your device for purely work and communication purposes. Has a good camera to. Crisp display, good for composing documents and helping me with power point presentations. I am not so worried about 3rd party apps as of now but hope to see some good ones released in the near future. I can proudly say this is going to be my device for the next 3 years without a doubt.
Last month (in Australia) I purchased the BlackBerry Z10 as an upgrade to my 64 gig iPhone 4S. The three foremost reasons for the upgrade was the promise of a better texting / email experience. Another reason for choosing the BlackBerry vs the iPhone (5 or 5S) was price. And lastly, battery life. I had been long frustrated by my experience of the iPhone iOS autocorrect. I found the overall experience no better with autocorrect switched off. The frustration seemed unavoidable to me. The Blackberry has solved this issue as best as I think is possible for a pocket device. On the Blackberry I have the autocorrect equivalent switched on and predictive text etc also on. I have to authorise a proposed 'autocorrected' word by press the space bar and I've set the phone to vibrate every time an autocorrected word is inserted into my text - so no more incorrect 'autocorrected' words slipped into my text and not noted by myself until it's too late! The larger screen and keyboard also helps the texting / typing experience. The BlackBerry screen is 355 PPI (sharp) as I understand it and substantially larger than the iPhone 4S and even the iPhone 5S. This helps my ageing eyesight! The BlackBerry has satisfied my quest for a substantially better texting and email experience, in my opinion. Price: I paid less than $400 (Australian $) for my BlackBerry Z10 with built in memory + a 16 gig micro SD card expansion. Total 32 gig. The 32 gig iPhone 5S currently sells outright unlocked for $999 (Australian $). After using the Z10 for two days now I have the clear impression I am the beneficiary of a bargain! Battery life. I'm not sure yet abiut battery life as I've only used the BlackBerry for two days. It is clearly at least is good as the iPhone 4S but I sense it is actually at least 20% better - but I've not conducted any "scientific tests" re this.... I'd say compare the manufacturers specs for comparative battery life. One can also swap out the battery on the BlackBerry. Apps: I'm currently missing a few of my favourite apps on the BlackBerry (vs the iPhone). However, this is not a show stopper for me. Furthermore, I understand the next operating system upgrade for the Z10 will allow me to purchase and install (and run) apps from the Android store. If so, this will soon solve any problems with short supply of apps as far as I'm concerned..... This upgrade to the BlackBerry operating system - allowing Android apps - is already available in many parts of the world....
bb is for it's phenomenal performance, and iphone is for entertainment. If you are a serious user or businessman, go for bb. And if you are a modern teenager who love to play games or use new and rich apps, go for Iphone. But overall, bb is always best compared to anything else.

people complaining about the Z10 having hardly any apps, BB ios 10 allows you to download and install apk files which are from android. So you can install android apps on the z10 and they work fine.
The Question is "is it a phone"? No one ever tells us about or compares signal range, sound quality, durability and stuff like security... things that matter most in a phone... Not stupid crap like how fast it boots up, you do that shit maybe once a month so its not really an issue. I hate the most when the battery dies, then you need to change the battery or the phone is totally useless and the # of phone users I see plugging in their phones in is the phones I wouldn't want to have to use.
I agree with Andy. Also Blackberry's boot up slower because they run a very strong security check. Speed test, realy? I seen test where the BB beats the Iphone 5.

The video looks so much nicer on the Zed! After spending a while trying to decide whether to get the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4, Lumia 1020 or the Z10, I found that I preferred the interface and actually pretty much everything on the Zed. Apps aren't really an issue if you're tech-savvy. I've sideloaded tons of Android apps and Games onto my Zed (some of the games run better than on the S4). Though I agree that there need to be more native apps for the Blackberry and Windows Mobile!

Nobody has an iPhone anymore... 99% of my friends have Samsung. The Blackberry Z10 is great though because it can also run Android. So, yes, Blackberry now has Instagram, Candy Crush, Flappy Bird, you name it. The Blackberry Z10 is like an iPhone and Galaxy S3 combined.!!!

My vote is for the BlackBerry Z10. My reasoning is its robust and no nonsens design with a clear fokus on productivity and superior wireless conectivity. One correction to your review though is that the main frame (chasi) on the Z10 is stainless steel that has been machined and then imbedded with a layer of tough plastic to create an extremly tough frame. I'm rockin the z10! Played with iPhone but found that I was doing a lot of back pedaling to do a lot of things or look at other things. Is the z10 and iPhone 5 a good match up in the ring? No. BlackBerry is a productive professional that works at NCIS as to the iPhone is a fun filled GM for Starbucks that parties at her customers house raining free mocha coupons all night. Just sayin I'm getting older. This is my 1st BlackBerry and I was an android user for some time now.
My first smart phone was the Blackberry Curve (never have I been so organized!), then I went to iPhone, then Android, now Windows 8. Android is still my favorite. I have not tried the latest Blackberry experience, but I would take my chances and spend my money on either Z10 or the Q10 before I ever go back to iphone.
More resilient is right. Had my Z10 for over a month and while I have been careful, have dropped it twice and cannot find a scratch anyone on the phone. Excellent plastics used on the Z10, and love the rubber-ish back plate.
Have you considered that you can sideload android apps to the Z10? Just a thought. Not all will be compatible but then again it opens the Z10 up to some great apps.
The Argument should not be which is faster. But rather what are you the consumer wanting in a phone. Are you a campaign manager, attorney, doctor. Or a High School student, Music lover etc. The Blackberry Z10 is more appealing to me as my maturity develops for electronic devices. A phone you may want at fifteen years old may be different than a phone you may want when your 30. Thoughts?
I love my z10 better than iphone im running 1mobile market in my z10 witch allows me to download any app I want such as whatsapp and any other apps that you cant find in BlackBerry world so with this blackberry z10 its over iphone so if you want a good phone give it a chance to the z10
Used BB Z10 for a week.No thanks, going back to my old iphone 4. For clear reasons: 1-Lack of apps. 2-Speed Dial UI is too bad. Whatsapp has killed BBM. For BB, its just too little too late.
Using BB10 on a Q5, soon moving to a Passport. Other features of Z10 not mentioned is the expandable memory, keyboard text prediction where the next word suggestion appears on the next letter you, and there's BB Remember, BB Blend etc.
For me the z10 has definitely won, because hof the great keyboard and its awesome word suggestions, booting up isn't Something I do every day, maybe every week ones but thats it, its got a great hub with wich I can chat with friends more quickly than on any other phone and last but not least the quality when you're phoning somebody the quality is much much better than on Iphone or Android
Most of the apps in the apple and google play store are not meant for business or working at all. In fact, all you need is a solid email and sms app, a calendar and a clear mic and speaker in you phone and that's what the BB apparently goes for and excels at.. Even if you do work with digital media, you'll hardly use your phone for video or photo editing or animating or anything like that. PCs are for productivity, not phones. Most of the apps are just there for fun, not out of necessity. Just look at your smartphone and think about which apps you actually really need and use. Mine are: TH-cam, Chrome, Textra (sms app), WhatsApp, Weather, and Alarm. These 6 I use frequently, all the others I could do without. So, do more apps make a smartphone a better choice, especially if 90% of the apps are just useless or do the same thing as the other 10%? I don't think so. And yes, I know with that you can install Android Apps on BB since update xyz, but this video here is 3 years old. I'm not sure that was the case back then and even if it wasn't, that doesn't change the point I was making before.

Whoever thinks that he has both worlds when having Z10 is just kidding himself you can't even download many Android apps that are related to Google services (TH-cam, hangouts, Google+ and so on) Simply put, Z10 is not mature when comes to Appstore, Amazon and Snap are not the answer to the shortage of Blackberry World iPhone is the king when comes to ease of use and cloud based apps are user friendly, while Z10 lacks many things regarding the cloud Battery, Z10 is notorious about the battery despite having 1800 mAh, the rate which battery drains is annoying. iPhone 5 has less mAh and it beat Z10. the both have the same mega pixel camera and iPhone has a nicer shots that Z10 There are many things nicer about iPhone 5 than Z10 that I can possibly mention Pro of Z10 form factor, built quality and nice looking phone apps integration, gorgeous looking keyboard and accurate prediction texts
I've had a Z10 for about 4 months now and it's a great phone! I've used (but never owned) all the different iPhones from 3G-5 and they all pale in comparison as far as UI, typing/texting, autocorrect and just about everything that you use everyday is concerned. The "flowing" way the OS works is also far superior in my opinion.

I got the Z10 in november last year... it set me back only 350Eur unlocked! i am very happy with it, now i install android apps with no problems and the latest software upgrades are a bomb! (i am actually running a alpha 10.3 version for almost 2 weeks with little or no issues - ok let's say a few limitations and no issues) I am happy with my choice and don't regret not getting an Iphone. :D
Unfair to compare these two phones as there is a quite large price gap between them, I don't know about the US but here the Z10 is way cheaper (z10, 200Eur vs Iphone5 350eur (and thats the cheapest iphone 5)) I got my Z10 last year and I can safely say that its the best phone i've ever used, I actually enjoy using it, I would buy the phone again no questions asked. The z10 made everything look easy, the software is pretty self explanatory, easy to use, fast and also looks great all around to me. Yes its missing alot of apps and games, but I don't care, I use my phone to talk, text and the occasional picture.. FYI the people saying you can get android apps on bb10, are dreaming, I love this phone but come on guys, not that I have downloaded many apps from the playstore.., 5 maybe... but so far NONE of the apps downloaded from the googleplaystore worked as intended, most if not all 5 never even launched. On the other hand blackberry store and amazon work fine and offer more than I could ask for. The best feature for me is the bb HUB, which if customized properly filters out all the shit you dont want (email spamm etc...)and has every social network in one place, which works damn fine for me. I just recently purchased the BBZ10. Not bad so far. Wasnt that hard to learn to use. Could use a few more apps like inknote.com apps. I wanted to transfer my notes over and could not do so because that app doesn't work on Blackberry. Wanting for good protective case to come out that doesn't affect the swipe up.

The Z10 has a higher screen resolution, greater PPI, faster processor, double the RAM, higher megapixel front facing camera, and a higher capacity battery than the iPhone 5s. You can also download and install any Android app you want on BlackBerry 10 phones. In my opinion, the BlackBerry 10 OS is much smoother and more intuitive than iOS7. I'm not saying the iPhone 5s is a bad phone, it's not, it's quite good but I would much rather have the Z10 or Z30.

I want to find a phone that will give me the easiest transition from iPod to phone. So whatever is the most similar to the iPod. Mainly I'm looking at camera as a deciding factor. Looking at just specs, blackberry looks better than the lucid. But I want a user reccomendation. Which would better suit my needs? Also app interface and music EQ are important. How easy are the apps to access and use? Stuff like that.
I use both and have both at the moment.... the z10 is awesome :) That's my daily phone now and i enjoy using apps on my house TV.... great for kids to watch on the TV with out using or spending 50.00 on a adapter. Not too mention battery life is great on the z10.... great phone over all on the z10. typing is better on the z10 no auto correct. hope this helps and not to mention on AT&T the z10 is free for now...

I am waiting for BB to fully mature over the next 2 years. I had the blackberry curve back than and I loved it. I even brought the BB playbook tablet, but it was very disappointing to me... and I heard it still didnt receive the update for BB10! Right now I am using the iphone 5. Nobody has an iPhone anymore... 99% of my friends have Samsung. The Blackberry Z10 is great though because it can also run Android. So, yes, Blackberry now has Instagram, Candy Crush, Flappy Bird, you name it. The Blackberry Z10 is like an iPhone and Galaxy S3 combined.!!!

My vote is for the BlackBerry Z10. My reasoning is its robust and no nonsens design with a clear fokus on productivity and superior wireless conectivity. One correction to your review though is that the main frame (chasi) on the Z10 is
stainless steel that has been machined and then imbedded with a layer of tough plastic to create an extremly tough frame.

I'm rockin the z10! Played with iPhone but found that I was doing a lot of back pedaling to do a lot of things or look at other things. Is the z10 and iPhone 5 a good match up in the ring? No. BlackBerry is a productive professional that works at NCIS as to the iPhone is a fun filled GM for Starbucks that parties at her customers house raining free mocha coupons all night. Just sayin I'm getting older. This is my 1st BlackBerry and I was an android user for some time now.

My first smart phone was the Blackberry Curve (never have I been so organized!), then I went to iPhone, then Android, now Windows 8. Android is still my favorite. I have not tried the latest Blackberry experience, but I would take my chances and spend my money on either Z10 or the Q10 before I ever go back to iphone.

More resilient is right. Had my Z10 for over a month and while I have been careful, have dropped it twice and cannot find a scratch anyone on the phone. Excellent plastics used on the Z10, and love the rubber-ish back plate.

Have you considered that you can sideload android apps to the Z10? Just a thought. Not all will be compatible but then again it opens the Z10 up to some great apps.
The Argument should not be which is faster. But rather what are you the consumer wanting in a phone. Are you a campaign manager, attorney, doctor. Or a High School student, Music lover etc. The Blackberry Z10 is more appealing to me as my maturity develops for electronic devices. A phone you may want at fifteen years old may be different than a phone you may want when your 30. Thoughts?

Used BB Z10 for a week.No thanks, going back to my old iphone 4. For clear reasons:
1-Lack of apps.
2-Speed Dial UI is too bad.
Whatsapp has killed BBM.
For BB, its just too little too late.
Using BB10 on a Q5, soon moving to a Passport. Other features of Z10 not mentioned is the expandable memory, keyboard text prediction where the next word suggestion appears on the next letter you, and there's BB Remember, BB Blend etc.
Exactly, plus what "apps" do you need to get work done? It has pretty much everything you would need in a work based scenario for the most part.

For me the z10 has definitely won, because hof the great keyboard and its awesome word suggestions, booting up isn't Something I do every day, maybe every week ones but thats it, its got a great hub with wich I can chat with friends more quickly than on any other phone and last but not least the quality when you're phoning somebody the quality is much much better than on Iphone or Android

Only had the z10 a few days but I love it, makes business so much better and supports all my company internal web sites.
Most of the apps in the apple and google play store are not meant for business or working at all. In fact, all you need is a solid email and sms app, a calendar and a clear mic and speaker in you phone and that's what the BB apparently goes for and excels at.. Even if you do work with digital media, you'll hardly use your phone for video or photo editing or animating or anything like that. PCs are for productivity, not phones. Most of the apps are just there for fun, not out of necessity. Just look at your smartphone and think about which apps you actually really need and use.
Mine are: TH-cam, Chrome, Textra (sms app), WhatsApp, Weather, and Alarm.
These 6 I use frequently, all the others I could do without. So, do more apps make a smartphone a better choice, especially if 90% of the apps are just useless or do the same thing as the other 10%? I don't think so.
And yes, I know with that you can install Android Apps on BB since update xyz, but this video here is 3 years old. I'm not sure that was the case back then and even if it wasn't, that doesn't change the point I was making before.

I have both Amazon Appstore and Snap installed on my Z10, and the android apps downloaded from these stores are heavy, took more time to open, unresponsive and many sometimes laggy and buggy. Whoever thinks that he has both worlds when having Z10 is just kidding himself you can't even download many Android apps that are related to Google services (TH-cam, hangouts, Google+ and so on) Simply put, Z10 is not mature when comes to Appstore, Amazon and Snap are not the answer to the shortage of Blackberry World
iPhone is the king when comes to ease of use and cloud based apps are user friendly, while Z10 lacks many things regarding the cloud
Battery, Z10 is notorious about the battery despite having 1800 mAh, the rate which battery drains is annoying. iPhone 5 has less mAh and it beat Z10. the both have the same mega pixel camera and iPhone has a nicer shots that Z10

I've had a Z10 for about 4 months now and it's a great phone! I've used (but never owned) all the different iPhones from 3G-5 and they all pale in comparison as far as UI, typing/texting, autocorrect and just about everything that you use everyday is concerned. The "flowing" way the OS works is also far superior in my opinion.
The 10.3 Blackberry update includes the Amazon App Store, so all of the big app titles will be downloadable for the Z10.

I got the Z10 in november last year... it set me back only 350Eur unlocked! i am very happy with it, now i install android apps with no problems and the latest software upgrades are a bomb! (i am actually running a alpha 10.3 version for almost 2 weeks with little or no issues - ok let's say a few limitations and no issues) I am happy with my choice and don't regret not getting an Iphone. :D

Unfair to compare these two phones as there is a quite large price gap between them, I don't know about the US but here the Z10 is way cheaper (z10, 200Eur vs Iphone5 350eur (and thats the cheapest iphone 5))
I got my Z10 last year and I can safely say that its the best phone i've ever used, I actually enjoy using it, I would buy the phone again no questions asked.
The z10 made everything look easy, the software is pretty self explanatory, easy to use, fast and also looks great all around to me. Yes its missing alot of apps and games, but I don't care, I use my phone to talk, text and the occasional picture.. FYI the people saying you can get android apps on bb10, are dreaming, I love this phone but come on guys, not that I have downloaded many apps from the playstore.., 5 maybe... but so far NONE of the apps downloaded from the googleplaystore worked as intended, most if not all 5 never even launched. On the other hand blackberry store and amazon work fine and offer more than I could ask for.
The best feature for me is the bb HUB, which if customized properly filters out all the shit you dont want (email spamm etc...)and has every social network in one place, which works damn fine for me.
My only problem with the z10 is that I believe blackberry has officially put a red cross on their bb10 software, which is awful, instead of releasing a kick ass upgrade for the z10, with maybe a nice slider they went ahead and released the Priv, which looks okay,(that slider kinda looks retarded to me though, why not on the side like htc dream to have an actual keyboard...? Oh well...) but android platform..? No Thank you..

Web browsing will be somewhat slower on the Z10 due to adobe flash images and objects being downloaded and processed, the iphone does not have this feature.

I just recently purchased the BBZ10. Not bad so far. Wasnt that hard to learn to use. Could use a few more apps like inknote.com apps. I wanted to transfer my notes over and could not do so because that app doesn't work on Blackberry. Wanting for good protective case to come out that doesn't affect the swipe up.

shaking the folders on the Z10 is not copied from the iPhone5 .. They do it on the BB PlayBook too.
The Z10 has a higher screen resolution, greater PPI, faster processor, double the RAM, higher megapixel front facing camera, and a higher capacity battery than the iPhone 5s. You can also download and install any Android app you want on BlackBerry 10 phones. In my opinion, the BlackBerry 10 OS is much smoother and more intuitive than iOS7. I'm not saying the iPhone 5s is a bad phone, it's not, it's quite good but I would much rather have the Z10 or Z30.

I want to find a phone that will give me the easiest transition from iPod to phone. So whatever is the most similar to the iPod. Mainly I'm looking at camera as a deciding factor. Looking at just specs, blackberry looks better than the lucid. But I want a user reccomendation. Which would better suit my needs? Also app interface and music EQ are important. How easy are the apps to access and use? Stuff like that.
I use both and have both at the moment.... the z10 is awesome :) That's my daily phone now and i enjoy using apps on my house TV.... great for kids to watch on the TV with out using or spending 50.00 on a adapter. Not too mention battery life is great on the z10.... great phone over all on the z10. typing is better on the z10 no auto correct. hope this helps and not to mention on AT&T the z10 is free for now...

Bbz10 is amazing my cousin has Iphone 5 first time she dropped it it broke, first time I dropped my phone with no case it didnt break and still works fine this day! But then again I dont see hot it runs android apps because I want instagram but its not coming up on bb app world!?

I've heard online somewhere that it is based on the Android's SwiftKey (one of the best onscreen keyboards around). The mechanics and looks are different, but I believe the text prediction is the same.
I am waiting for BB to fully mature over the next 2 years. I had the blackberry curve back than and I loved it. I even brought the BB playbook tablet, but it was very disappointing to me... and I heard it still didnt receive the update for BB10! Right now I am using the iphone 5. Used both and the Blackberry is cracking. Used all sorts of tablets and mobiles, sold the iPad and the iPhone. Can't see any beauty or good looks of an iPhone, it is just a fashion thing. Love my iMac though!
