I recently got the Q20 used and the previous owner thought it better to reset it. The complete setup notification was so annoying primarily because I am using it for calls and messages and unnecessary notification light or buzz just irks me until I check it. Thankfully though, I found a hack on how you can turn on reader mode and when you go to the network page where it usually gets stuck, the reader will read out various options including skip and you can skip it then, same thing for one of the last steps in the process. Once I did that, I haven't faced the setup notification again and it feels so much better now haha great video and comparison, I thought about getting a Q10 but couldnt find one in as good condition/price as the Q20, but im really happy with the Q20

True, but I am happy to see someone give these phones a second look… when I look at these phones I am always reminded of the limitations of modern economies or civilisations. I think people still like these types phones but they’re not many enough to make business sense. So, I have to ask is there or, can there be a nonprofit organisation that can offer new phones of this type? Or a business that can operate on slim profile margins to produce phones like these?
There are some communities that still use these phones, they find solutions to bugs like the one you mentioned and exchange programs that still work today. Yes, it is the father of smartphones, and it is a shame that it was discontinued.
I love how the internet provides useful information like this. I haven't thought about Blackberries for years until today, and I found this perfect video when I needed.
1) Blackberries aren't dumb phones, they were and remain designed as secure, productivity devices -- especially important in this age of constant distraction. 2) BB10's heyday has gone and past especially with respect to the App World, but it's still arguably the most secure "smartphone" OS available. (Point being, BB10 was when BB wasn't just a productivity device and it had more entertainment than BB7 devices including Amazon apps, but was still the paramount of security). Circa 2020 BB's CEO John Chen stated as much and was the only device authorized for HQ employee use in their evolving business of IoT security... 3) Android 4 apps can still be sideloaded AFAIK, and some App World apps APKs are also in the wild. 4) Yes, the Q10 is a better form factor than Q20, and roughly same form factor as the Blackberry Bold that also had the toolbelt. Ran the Bold until the shutdown as my primary for a decade... The toolbelt on the Classic is clutch however -- but also don't forget BB first had "gestures" in BB10/Q10 that controlled on an Android 4 system, when Google didn't have gestures until Android 9 IIRC (and the newest BB devices -- Key 2/Key 2LE -- both capped out at Android 8.1, so never saw the gestures functions). 5) You're lucky you're in Europe where using old devices don't get you booted from networks. In the US, that's a thing... Some old BB enthusiasts are using UK/EU sims to keep on keeping on. 6) BB10's Hub is and remains awesome tech, and it's unfortunate that most calendar and contact syncs no longer work. I think gmail email still works, but the rest -- not so much. The loss of consistent calendar and contact sync is a "bridge too far" for day to use for me... YMMV.

How are you syncing your Q10 calendar to your other devices? Microsoft/Outlook services are no longer compatible, as an example. And when you type on Q10, how do you either send or transfer your electronic mail messages?
You can bypass the setup screen by enabling the screen reader and when asked to connect to wifi, double tap skip icon when it shows and then turn off screen reader and proceed with setup. You need to be fast on the draw for this procedure. The phone will try to update and after a few minutes, will say setup complete. No more setup notifications. I am not sure about carrier support because I live in France. I buy devices that are unlocked and they seem to work okay as far as carrier issues.

The phone should work fine but you may get stuck with an annoying notification to complete the setup process. If that happens check out this link th-cam.com/video/7tu1VMWNGZU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3P6sdFP-CcxatIyC
The setup loop is happening because the devices need to connect to BlackBerry servers to complete. The servers were shut down years ago so it can never complete. I wiped and reset one device just before the shutdown and never touched the other. On the second device I can still see old BBM chats that are saved on-device. Memories ❤
So I've been making a distraction free phone. I think I have the actual answer to this problem but I need some early adopters to buy and test as I work on customizing the OS. Or I need to run a Kickstarter or something to raise some funds to complete the project. I have a couple videos of the WIP project on my channel. Also I'm not the spokesman and much better at writing than explaining out loud. Would you be interested in helping out or checking it out?
From what I have found out.. the “ complete setup “ happens after you have reset and bypassed the phone.. if you brought it and it had not been wiped you wouldn’t have this problem. Annoyingly. Love your videos about blackberry! Using the key 2 le and the blackberry classic as my personals :D
I see the Classic SCQ100-1 and that is Bands for USA Canada and the Q10 SQN100-3 Bands for UK. Anyway how did you get it to connect to voice service. Here is the USA I got AT&T to work by putting sim in another phone. But no voice. I use the Q5 on my horse as it is small light very easy to use. And I can afford to drop it. The Magic is in the keys. No endless swiping up down searching for that app. I also got a Unihertz Pocket and the Q5 blows it away.
I live in France and the carriers still support 2g and 3g bands for voice and texting. It probably won't work for many years for me but it should be functional until the end of 2025.
Please can you tell me ebay is the safe site for purchase blackberry classic Q10. I want to buy it. Seller says its brand new device with sealed box. All accessories available. The cost of this phone $103. Please can you tell me is this genuine site for purchase????
I bought mine on eBay with no issues for $40. Mine was used with no accessories and it works fine. I haven't had issues but it depends on the seller. Check their rating and buy from good rated sellers if possible.
I’ve frequently had pangs of regret since being forced to give up my Passport when the carriers kicked us all off. Let me try again to understand what you’re saying. Do you mean to say that a Passport could be used for voice and text without BB servers? If the carrier doesn’t provide SIM how do you get a phone number? Or phone/text service? I guess I can connect to WiFi, right? Does that help? My Red Passport was my ATF!
I still use a P9983 (q10) but the phone is very slow. The Classic is also a nice walk around phone. As of today, Bb10 only performs good on the q30 (passport)
Like you I am visually impaired so the Blackberry I use is the DTek 60, it is android so it will work with Google apps and it has a IPS display of around 5.5 inches so it can fit in my pocket easily and the sound from it's two speakers is amazing. I still have my Z30 device which again is android a d performs well in a modern world for those of us who need Blackberry in our lives.
But how can you still use it? I think I'd piss people off if I tried to. Plus I do use Android Auto every day. Lol, maybe I'll give my passport a go. I do miss my pkb.
Like my Q10, but my email provider (in Germany) no longer supports BB. Surfing the net has also become extremely limited. Many sites will not open. Too bad. Nice phone. Nice paperweight (at least for me).
Look at here I’m still trying to find somebody to pick up my blackberry torch. I got a lot of movies in lotta stuff on my blackberry torch and it still work very very well. Matter fact, I trying to get a carrier USA and they said that they cannot work with the blackberry torch, and is six dollars a month so therefore, please help me out with my blackberry torch
I don't think it's possible to use the BlackBerry torch in the USA anymore. They don't support 2g or 3g bands anymore. You can still use it for music or movies on wifi as a companion device maybe?

I LOVED the physical qwerty keyboard design on the Blackberry phones, one of the best models I had was the Torch 9810 (slider). However, my MAIN use for a phone is WhatsApp (all friends and family are on it), and well, Blackberry and WhatsApp... Non existent... IF, Unihertz was able to take the keyboard design licence from Blackberry, THEN, I MIGHT consider going for a Titan/Titan mini or whatever... 🤔😏 😎🇬🇧
Yes I use WhatsApp too for all my communication with family and friends in France. I use it mostly on my desktop and tablet these days. I don't need it as much as I thought I did and since I work from home the Blackberry is enough for my texting and calling needs. If anyone gets the right to use BlackBerry keyboards for their device they will have a lot of customers lined up, myself included 😄
It's really a beautiful phone. I love Blackberry and I will never stop using them. I don't use any social media anymore either so this phone is perfect for those who want to enjoy their life away from a screen.
I couldn't connect my Gmail in the accounts but I can access Gmail via the browser. Apparently BlackBerry no longer meets Google's security criteria (logical since the phones no longer get security updates or OS updates)

Hi! great video! :) I once used a Q10 like almost 7 years ago and I loved the device so much! Now I'm wondering if facebook messenger is still usable on the device? thanks in advance!
There is a Facebook messenger lite APK that did work for me. Check out the CrackBerry forums or Reddit. This is where I find working APK files.
what carrier do you use? /sim?
I use SFR in France
Can you tell me about the battery timing on both devices?
How long they last with 4g connection?
They are about the same as far as the battery life is concerned. They last around 2 days with average use. The Q10 has a removable battery and you can change it easily or swap batteries if you are a heavy user.
@@LauraMalvoyanteand one more thing!
How long will the battery last of i turn on 4g hotspot to connect my laptop to it for internet?
On both devices, will it last a day??
@@AwaisAhmad-wh8eg I haven't used my devices on Hotspot all day but I doubt the battery would last more than 4 - 5 hours if used like this.
Can I Play music on the blackberry classic and/or the q10 on my AirPods Pro or Sony headphones? Thank you in advance ❤ and of course for this really helpful video
Yes you can. I've used my airpods pro with no issues
So, would you recommend some BB as a dumbphone today? Is it worthy? I'm in doubt because of whatsapp only, so I need it for work reasons. Nice videos!
If you need WhatsApp I would not get a BB. I would use a feature phone or a dumbed down smartphone to use WhatsApp.
I'm looking for a Blackberry phone to use. Can someone guide me on availability or purchasing options?
@@MarvelIronman-sf4ze first you need to decide which operating system fits your needs. If you need newer apps use the Android BlackBerry devices. To buy I have used Back Market, Sellpy. amazon and eBay.
I had a blackberry before I was convinced to buy an android then google then apple (regret!) and now I want to go back to basics (but do i??) part of me does but then Im concerned about things like connecting music to my car and things like that. Thoughts?
I am using my Classic as a dumbphone. Just calls and texts. I would use another phone if you want any modern apps. You can install APKs but the experience will not be the same. The music app on BlackBerry device ces is fantastic but I don't think you can connect it to your car, unless you use an Android Blackberry like the KEYone or Key2.
Can you text and call over wifi without a sim card/no signal? If that is possible it would be a great video
No this isn't possible 😞
Hi thanks for the review. Does it have any email capability?
No not in the convention lap way. I was able to access my Gmail via the browser.
Can you delete stock apps, at least from the home screen to reduce clutter?
Unfortunately not. I put all the stock apps in a folder to clean up the home screen.
Hi, how can I get the SIM card tray fixed to the newer SIM card version?
I am not sure this is possible. The Classic works with nano sims but the Q10 is micro sim. You can use an adapter as well.
Hi Laura! I wanna say thank you for your videos and especially your tech reviews, because right now I'm also in search of perfect dumb phone that supports necessary apps like WhatsApp (because of relatives in another country). You're really helping and motivating so much for a digital minimalist lifestyle😄
I'm happy to help. I'm on the never ending journey to find the ideal dumbphone 😅. Digital minimalism is a great mindset and really liberates a lot of time when you get the hang of it.
Great video Laura, I'm your new subscriber
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Do BB still work in 2024? If so which carrier? I miss the BB dearly
The BB10 devices can still do call and texting. They use 4g networks. The newer BB devices like Keyone and Key2 use android and have more options for apps. I am not sure about carrier support because I live in France. I buy devices that are unlocked and they seem to work okay as far as carrier issues.
@@LauraMalvoyantehey, where in France?
@@babacool81 I am near Paris, in the suburbs
@@LauraMalvoyante ok. Do you like it? I'm away from Paris. Not coming back to Paris. Too stressful 😁
I am the same way with the sensitivity . It took me forever to get a hold onto matte screwn protector... I miss phones that got the judge done, and they lasted for days at a time.
I owned a Q10 when it came out and the lack of home button was a miss.
Geat comparison! ❤
Hi anyone had any experience in using the Blackberry with Microsoft 365? I am having problems connecting email now / it might be an Oauth 2.0 issue, but I am not sure
3 days ago i ordered bb classic on ebay. I'm live in saudi but i ordered sqc 100 1 is it work here? Also if i buy it can i use for msg and call include internet? Please explain me thank you
I’m not sure what service provider you have but if you have 4g or 5g messages and calls as well as the web browser should work.
Excellent travail.Excellent phone’s.
Can we use what’s app In this ?
No it's not possible anymore 🫤
Do you use microsoft teams on your device?
No I don't. I doubt it would work unless you find an APK that works 🤔
I like your video very much.❤
Hey I’m from Canada I wanted one badly but I heard if u buy one new you can’t use it ?? Anyone know if it’s true
The phone should work fine but you may get stuck with an annoying notification to complete the setup process. If that happens check out this link th-cam.com/video/7tu1VMWNGZU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3P6sdFP-CcxatIyC
@@LauraMalvoyante copy thanks
I have several. Stopped using when they wouldn't run software. My KeyOne is on its last leg too.
Do these phones work on the LTE network? You probably stated that, but I don’t remember. Lol
Yes they do for data but for calls its only 3g.
My calls are on 2G these days
The setup loop is happening because the devices need to connect to BlackBerry servers to complete. The servers were shut down years ago so it can never complete. I wiped and reset one device just before the shutdown and never touched the other. On the second device I can still see old BBM chats that are saved on-device. Memories ❤
I finally fixed the setup loop today thanks to another comment. I pinned the comment with the solution and it works for all my other BB10 devices too.
@@LauraMalvoyantethank you! I’ll pass this along to my other BlackBerry-using friends
I'll check it out 👍
are there any BBs that support 4g? i live in the US
I think for the US the Android BlackBerrys work on 4g (KeyOne etc) but the BB10 devices only work on 3g for calls and 4g for data.
@@LauraMalvoyante Thank you for your suggestion. It's very helpful for me.
It works in some places outside the US/Canada. You need 3g support though.
Is the web browser still working on these phones?
Yes but some websites don’t work. I use it to access Google services with no issues.
@@LauraMalvoyante Perfect! Im in. refurbished here i come! androids/iphones can kiss my @ss!
@@LauraMalvoyante and may i add does the BBM also work?
Can it support Telegram and Messenger app
Nope
I still use a P9983 (q10) but the phone is very slow. The Classic is also a nice walk around phone. As of today, Bb10 only performs good on the q30 (passport)
I will get a Passport someday. I want all the BB10 devices 😄
The theme song for BB should be the song by the band Player....Baby Come Back.....
I miss my BB
@@iPeter-ky3zs haha I love this. If I were an excentric billionaire I would revive Blackberry.
@ we could file a class action suit of say 1Trillion....on behalf of fruit....because berries came before apples...and use it to start BB v2.0
@iPeter-ky3zs yes 🙌
I loved my Priv. The Dtek 60 is a good phone as well. I am looking at getting an Android BlackBerry again.
Btw, what mp3 player do you use?
@@Adnardiean I have been using the Mechen but this week I started using a KLIM Nomad CD/MP3 player combo
Neutron MP. Is the best music player. I still have a copy of it on my Blackberry Passport.
I wish they would release a modern version of the Blackberry Pearl 3g, I miss that SureType keyboard so much!!
The BlackBerry Pearl was my first BlackBerry. I would love for it to come out again.
My 70ty year mother still ablolutely loved him. Shes used him for 7 years
I HAVE BEEN USING BLACKBERRY PHONES FOR 15 YEARS NOW.
But how can you still use it? I think I'd piss people off if I tried to. Plus I do use Android Auto every day. Lol, maybe I'll give my passport a go. I do miss my pkb.
Which one? I heard many no longer work
Loved this comparison. Thank you for putting it out there
@@coltonmandell4829 thanks for watching it. It's a pretty niche comparison for 2024 but I loved making it.
Like my Q10, but my email provider (in Germany) no longer supports BB. Surfing the net has also become extremely limited. Many sites will not open. Too bad. Nice phone. Nice paperweight (at least for me).
Yes this is true in France as well. I use it as a dumb phone. Only texts and calls.
Wait ...... I meed this phone if i can call andntext on it
Look at here I’m still trying to find somebody to pick up my blackberry torch.
I had the q10. I wish blackerry would come back with new OS. Not android.
Me too!
why they stop makeing blackberry phones?
Because everyone bought iPhones 🫤
@@LauraMalvoyante nah sorry but i can't believe this, if they maintained high standards, I think they would have won against Apple, what you said is just an excuse that makes no sense from the head of Blackberry
@@LauraMalvoyante i hope they will come back and destroy the industry that all they do is making money from the incapacity of people of seeing the truth
Do these work in America?
I think it will depend on the carrier. They connect to 4g.
😎🇬🇧
Yes I use WhatsApp too for all my communication with family and friends in France. I use it mostly on my desktop and tablet these days. I don't need it as much as I thought I did and since I work from home the Blackberry is enough for my texting and calling needs. If anyone gets the right to use BlackBerry keyboards for their device they will have a lot of customers lined up, myself included 😄
I thought it was shut down and not sble to get service
It is shut down but the phone/texting function still works. There are people still creating APKs for them as well
Will whatsapp work on this phone??
No not anymore 😔
I want my BB back!!
I used blackberry 20 years ago. Like class c blackberry Q10.
I miss these phones. I wish Blackberry was still a viable option.
Me too
I still using Q20 as daily....still love it still big whaaat when someone saw this device.....i dont use social shitty apps only email sms and calls.
It's really a beautiful phone. I love Blackberry and I will never stop using them. I don't use any social media anymore either so this phone is perfect for those who want to enjoy their life away from a screen.
Me all of a sudden want to have one 🙂🙂
Thanks... What about what's app , Gmail....is there any problem with these...?? Have you try it
I couldn't connect my Gmail in the accounts but I can access Gmail via the browser. Apparently BlackBerry no longer meets Google's security criteria (logical since the phones no longer get security updates or OS updates)
@@LauraMalvoyantegreat way to stay disconnected.
Welcome to BlackBerry by AGEs 🎉
I really want to get the q20 im tired of the iPhone lol
HOW DO YOU USE THIS IN 2024?
10 years ago, I liked my Blackberry, wouldn't use it these days
Apple iPhones Pro all the way now....wouldn't go back, but in it's hay day Blackberries were great
AZERTY keyboard is wild
Yeah I have an AZERTY and a QWERTZ and a QWERTY. The AZERTY is the hardest to use for sure 😅
Q20 is a nice device you just can use it in the states
I can solve this problem with the loop :)
If only they could mix the iPhone with blackberry. I did enjoyed the blackberry when it came out but the iPhone is great for videos
Bold 9000 is better.
Why?
BB7 OS, more productivity, less entertainment, better tool belt. .... funny that the classic really isn't "classic". I sold my classic in 2015 after 4 mos of use, went back to the bold 9900
They don't have 4G / LTE so they can't be used in a lot of regions anymore.
The Q10, Q20/Classic and Passport are the main options for use on modern networks
10 years was thinking 16 year's lol
