It handles ever so slightly funny, but it still has me going back for more. Time-trialling is a lot of fun, and the presets make it nice and easy to jump in to any sort of AI race you want without having to do a bunch of setup. Also, the graphics-to-performance ratio of the Madness engine is astounding; it looks so good but runs so well. I love AMS 2; sure it doesn't handle as well as AMS 1, AC or even iRacing, but I'm at the point where I've stopped giving a shit about that stuff provided I'm getting an enjoyable experience.
Very nice video. I just want to share my experience. I love AMS2 because I find the underlying physical platform being much more dynamic and alive that all other sims, and very nicely responsing to setups. What I don't like is how the vehicles drive with default setups, especially gt3s. To all who complain about "slideyness" of gt3s (in particular 911 gen1, 911 gen2, mclaren), but also sauber c9, bmw procar, gt4, me group A.... please try just reducing LSD clutch plate number from the defualt setup, from 6 to 2 (or 4). This changed the feeling massively to me and the cars (now more push-understeery on corner exits) feel much more connected, reliable, predictable and according to my expectations of realism.
This is my favourite sim channel by far; not only because JB is the quickest sim racer out there, but mainly due to his positive approach to all reviews. Why trash someone else’s favourite sim?
The best content in AMS2 is definitely the classic open wheelers, closely followed by the Brazilian stock cars and the various prototypes. I just can't get away with the GT cars in the game. They all seem so tail happy. Overall though it is a great game especially for single player racers. The variable weather and time of day are some of the best in any racing game.
The historic content in this game is extremely good, lot of old tracks and cars to try out. Group C and the GT1's are great. There's also a lot of cars and tracks from South America unique to the game which are fantastic (Curitiba and Goiânia being my favourite tracks, P1 cars are good fun)
Exactly this. H Shifter cars, historic and obscure cars and tracks, and take advantage of the 2nd to none dynamic weather and time scaling vs AI. Example is a quick 20 min race at 60X time, 4 random weather slots, in a RWD manual multi-class race of 3 to 4 classes. Great racing just for the hell of it. It's always tough to beat Historic Spa with Group C, also. Multi class there, too.
@@Jaaames Last, IF you have a larger rim more suitable to historic cars, it certainly helps with immersion. Last last thing, make sure the track has lights if your car doesn't. 😅
The best feature of AMS2 is how incredible it is in VR. It's very fun to just put the headset on and play around on all sorts of cars and cool spaniard tracks that aren't in other sims(though it still has all the usual suspects like suzuka and spa and monza and all that stuff). For VR users IMO = iracing = ams2 > ac > acc
@@Jaaames Out of all the popular sims, VR in AMS2 gives me the best 'in car' feeling by a mile. It's dark in all the right places like the footwells. The other sims are rendered like everywhere has been pimped with LED lighting strips.
ASM2 really shines with classic cars like Group C on 2000s Spa or Le Mans with scripted weather going from dry-wet-dry in dusk or dawn. Thats an experience you cannot get with any oher sim. Also VR is AMAZING in this one. If I just wanna hop in and have fun for couple of laps, AMS2 is my way to go
I don't play AMS2 very often because the online is not good, but in terms of physics, I think it's the closest one to the real life onboard footage. The way the car reacts to bumps (funny how people complain about that, when that's exactly how real life footage looks like), the rear end being loose enough (real GT3 cars are not so sticked to the ground as in ACC, for example) or even the (turbo?) noise changing its pitch with the compression and extension of the suspension. I know James has real life experience and it's top class sim racer, but I'm sure every real life car feels different and we are all too used to the "standard" simulators, that when one tries something different, we look at it as it was wrong when maybe it's not.
Your take on the physics is spot on. Cars just feel like you have you push them hyper aggressively at all times and go through every corner with a ton of slip and even deliberately slide at times. I think a lot of people are too slow to get to the pace where they're having to do that or just aren't able to feel it, but I'm not especially fast (102-102.5% pace in ACC, for reference) and I am easily to the point where I'm having to use that driving style and it bothers me a lot, so anyone actually fast is probably going to notice it even more. The tires just let you have way too much slip angle and aren't peaky whatsoever, even with all these updates to make them more peaky. It is super fun, especially in older cars where the suspension of disbelief lets you kind of ignore it, but I know how a GT3 or prototype or open wheeler is supposed to behave and AMS2 just isn't that. The AI is also just busted in any conditions other than perfectly dry, which is a shame because they are surprisingly good when they are usable, even if the typical "too slow in some corners, too fast in others" issue is present. They'll defend and attack and for the most part give you space, but as soon as a rain drop hits the track they're grip hacking into another dimension. I say all this as someone who has more time in AMS2 than any other sim. It is so fun to just jump in and drive without any real thought, and it's amazing with friends because you can just send a steam invite and get people in a race against AI in minutes with minimal setup, but it is very much lacking in some areas. Too much width at the cost of depth, unfortunately
Yeah fully agree. The faster I go the worse it feels. I've done some GT1 and I was like 0.3 sec of WR on SPA and I could really remember some really odd behaviours with the aero and physiscs.. It is getting better but still work to do.
Amazed this was the first time by James. But even more amazed in which way he entered the simworld, when - at not at least his climbing the latters from then on. Of which for me as an ancient simmer since early 1980ies feels like not yesterday more like during the night leading to this day.
I always remove as much engine braking as I can in AMS2, it makes it feel more like AC1, as AC1 has very little engine braking. To do this, go into the setup of the car and increase the "engine brake" setting to max.
I've compared the telemetry of ,SIM's without adjustable Eng Brk and those that do have it, and for AMS2 the EB should probably be set somewhere right about middle range, but adjusting it to suit your driving and downshifting patterns is certainly a good idea. Setting it all the way one way or the other in most cases is probably doing more harm than good.
@@CaptainCrunch99 as a general rule, yes, maxing out any parameter without knowing what it does is not great! I did some testing with GT3 cars in AC and ams2. Even with AMS2 eng brk maxed out, it still loses speed faster than AC. The AMG GT3 in AC for example just rolls on forever! ACC doesn't have as much engine braking as AC from brief testing.
11:50 rFactor 2 has had laser-scanned monaco since 2019 (Circuit d'Azure) The AI is a lot weaker on the brakes, but they have got invisible boost zones at the corner exits to make up for the deficit. For Monaco, specially with the wet, AI probably adjusted to a really high downforce rain setup, which is why they have more grip.

Yeah that's a fair point, I heard Monaco was laserscanned so I wanted to try it more than other tracks, but yeah looking through these comments, there's definitely better combo's🤣
Set a time 0.3s off yours, also with the AMG 😤 Something about AMS2 just clicks for me, have only ten hours on it and everything about it feels better than ACC. I find it much easier to take the correct lines and make the car do what I want in AMS2, as opposed to ACC in which the cars want to wash out unpredictably and the front tyres always seem to have less grip than I expect them to.
The ONLY Issue I have with AMS2 is that ABS and TC engage way too early, even with TC LOW and onboard set to 1, so I usually drive GT3s without ABS and TC on 1 or 2, depending on car and track. I really love that I can drive this aggressively in AMS2, oversteers fits my style well.

Nice seeing you checking out the game! I would recommend you to get the endurance vol.1 DLC as it has the new Gt3s (including the 2020 Merc) and the Lmdhs.
It seems you only have base content and none of the DLCs, in that case I'd suggest you try Porsche Cup 4.0, Stock Car 2019, and the Formula Classic cars. Maybe try a race in a non-street circuit like Interlagos, Kansai (Suzuka), Bathurst, etc. Very impressive to see you get so close to the world record so quickly.
The minis are really good fun, as are the Brazilian Stock cars.... but the copa classic b is where its at for me, basically old 80s hatchbacks. As for tracks i can definitely recommend a few of the classics like Bathurst and the British tracks, the Brazilian and Argentine circuits are all surprising, some good tracks over there.
Glad to finally see someone with real life racing experience play the game. For me AMS2 does indeed require a unique driving style. Can be fun but it doesn't seem like any real car or other sim I have driven. Almost drifting is the way to be quick where as IRL that is the complete opposite to what you want to do.
Yeah drifting IRL is definitely not what you want to be doing, tbf tho I didn't try the best mods / combo's in this video. Will give AMS2 another shot in the near future.
@@Jaaames Can be a fun game for sure. I don't enjoy many cars in game but can recommend the GT1 and P1 class for cars that feel more connected to the road. Only my opinion though, you might say they are rubbish 😂

Someone get this man a DanielKart custom ffb file and the Endurance Pack. Also, the P3 class Metalmoro Duratec is fantastic around Donnington Park. It also helps to turn off all head/driver movement in the settings , and turn on legacy head movement mode.
Here’s a fun idea, how about a sim racing league where each week the drivers play on 3 different games for 3 races, all randomized from like a list of 10 or so games, and so on for tracks and car categories on the games. Would be a blast to see the top drivers have to figure out something completely unpredictable
@@Jaaames haha and I mean I get most series that’s unrealistic and not exactly the way of the sport, but it would definitely be fun as almost a game show kinda spin off where pros are there for more fun than competition… and it’s easier to make happen and have fun guest stars because of the no practice required
3:43 yeah "weird " is a good way to describe it. For me it feels incomplete. The AI is in a single row and slows down in corners. I think it looks nicer than it feels.
For me, it's all about the VR. Nothing else gives the immersion and performance in VR like AMS2. I'll take that trade-off for it being 'less realistic' than some other sims in a heartbeat, because at the end of the day none of them really simulates being in a real car completely realistically anyway. They all have their pitfalls. At the end of the day, I want the immersive feeling of being in a race car and I feel AMS2 in VR delivers that more than any other sim, regardless of the physics.
slip angle and aggression into bends seems to work for me in time trials,, I keep going back,, for me it feel more engaging then either ac/acc and similar to wrc generations.. I keep enjoying myself driving it.
I was not expecting to say this because I'm a complete casual, but I agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't know if the physics are weird, or it's just the default setups, but it does feel like it encourages you to 4 wheel drift around every corner. I'm also not convinced it's realistic, but I enjoy it. I think GPLaps said it has "hero physics". I enjoy just hopping into it and being able to race basically any car I get the urge to drive, and do a couple laps against AI in any conditions. The AI do seem to sometimes abide by different physics to the players, but if it means I can miss my braking zone by a bit without punting someone off the track, I don't really care. It's only an issue for me when it seems like rain or something doesn't affect them.
Try the f3, super v8, gt1 and group c stuff. New LMDH’s are dope too but the default setups need some help. EDIT: they also have ginettas in this as I see you drive some recently.
If you like open wheelers, AMS2 is very fun game, if you can accept some quirks in the physics engine. The V10 gen 2, and Formula Hitech are especially good.
AMS2 has been my go-to sim for racing with my VR. I find iRacing extremely tricky to drive and always feel like I'm driving on soap. I just wish AMS2 had a better replay system. Thanks for the review mate!
agreed and was good to see it happen with James at Brands, when the end just let go on the Merc. It happens all the time, and in races can't get around the first lap without the inexpicable loss of grip, traction mid corener. I want to like the game, played it simce StockCar Brasil, where it drove well but maybe the graphics were not good. But that real feel it had is not in AMS2, but the eye candy is cool if thats your thing@@flyingphoenix113
I feel like AMS2 always had that stange feel you mentioned. Every car has a bit of it to a different degree, I think GT3 is straight up garbage compared to every other sim, the best is probably classic F1 cars with classic tracks. I am not even a big classic stuff enjoyer, but I found those to be the best to drive. Especially in VR. I still feel like the OG AMS feels significantly better, and no AMS2 update ever changed that.
Great vid. I wonder if you would need some time to do a proper wet weather setup on the F1 car to get the grip out of it? Really enjoyed this though. You have some incredible skills.
The physics have actually improved since the last update. I think it has an arcadey feel that I enjoy even though I doubt it is very realistic. I avoid GT3 and GT4 cars, I preffer ACC for that. But I love driving the Caterhams, the Formula trainers, the old M3 and the M1. It is the perfect game to have some relaxed fun especially with a shifter.
Try the new Le Mans track and LMDH stuff, those are really good. The 1960s cars around that era Monza is good fun for racing. I find the wet track stuff vs AI impossible too, they seem to have a different level of grip.
I just got a Cube Controls FPro wheel. During sudden changes of direction (with ffb quite high) , I can notice a slight creak sound in the rear part of the steering wheel. I have a Simucube 2 pro base with Simucube quick release, all the screws are very tight. Do you have this "problem" James?
There are none, ‘optimal pressures’ is some acc nonsense. It depends on the tyre, but slicks are roughly 80 degrees celsius, wih about 7 degrees IMO (camber is important in ams2)
You tried the worst combo car track in the rain and that with max AI 😂 Try the Nurburgring in the mini cooper with weather changes or GT1. Old cars are pretty fun in AMS2. They also got the latest spa version.
Yeah I definitely didn't maximise my AMS2 experience that's for sure. The fact I chose such a bad combo & still want to play it again shows to me it's a solid game. I'll definitely try it again in the near future.
Everytime I want to love AMS2 I just can’t get past the physics. RaceRoom and the original AC just feel so connected. A few months ago I just got into RaceRoom and have been hooked. I legit feel I could practice in RaceRoom or AC for a real like hot lap session and do well. In AMS2 I never feel as if I’m driving the car in a realistic manner. Great video!
Great vid James, I'd love to see you go for some time trial world records! There's tons more content in the game for you to explore in a another video. Also, if you're on the defualt FFB profile, i would recommend going to default+ or a custom FFB profile 👍

Funny thing there’s something about it. I can’t put my fingers on it, but it doesn’t give me the same happiness and feel that I’m getting out of RF 2 ? Do I think it’s a fine Sim hundred percent. But there’s some thing with the physics that’s just off by a little. also, I feel it needs more camera options. If the locks camera angles to track it lacks cameras, I am a huge fan of Sebring in RF 2 For the camera 2 and 3, 4 Where did you get a fantastic look at the cars handling? AMLs 2 Needs Sebring. Just an opinion from the peanut gallery, of course

As for tracks i can definitely recommend a few of the classics like Bathurst and the British tracks, the Brazilian and Argentine circuits are all surprising, some good tracks over there.
Yeah in the next AMS2 video I'll likely choose Bathurst as one of the tracks😍
Go for GT1, Prototypes, GT3 & GTE & GT4, old Formula Cars & Formula Junior, Mercedes 190E, BMW M1 Pro, Porsche Rsr 1974... I'm not sure if you tweaked some setup before Monaco in the rain but if you didn't you should...
Good to know, will bare those cars in mind. All setups in this vid were default btw ahaha.
Someone get this man a DanielKart custom ffb file and the Endurance Pack. Also, the P3 class Metalmoro Duratec is fantastic around Donnington Park.
It also helps to turn off all head/driver movement in the settings , and turn on legacy head movement mode.
Roger that good sir, thanks.
Whats better AM2 or LmU for sim realism? Cheers TIW
VR performance is really great in this game.
Here’s a fun idea, how about a sim racing league where each week the drivers play on 3 different games for 3 races, all randomized from like a list of 10 or so games, and so on for tracks and car categories on the games. Would be a blast to see the top drivers have to figure out something completely unpredictable
I agree it would be so much better to remove the 'practice' element from sim racing, would be so much more enjoyable😂
@@Jaaames haha and I mean I get most series that’s unrealistic and not exactly the way of the sport, but it would definitely be fun as almost a game show kinda spin off where pros are there for more fun than competition… and it’s easier to make happen and have fun guest stars because of the no practice required
i was considering buying this game just for the 80s/90s F1 cars
Bro watching you drive is so intimidating, i should sell my whole setup really!
Try the formula junior I think it could be a great training car on how grip loss feels
Nice to see you driving in AMS! Try the 2nd Gen GT3s they are much better.
Yep, definitely need to try that.
3:43 yeah "weird " is a good way to describe it. For me it feels incomplete. The AI is in a single row and slows down in corners. I think it looks nicer than it feels.
6:12 the track is wet. We just don't know it.
Editing is on point man.. great content

Love the editing on this 😂
🐐 editor
slip angle and aggression into bends seems to work for me in time trials,, I keep going back,, for me it feel more engaging then either ac/acc and similar to wrc generations.. I keep enjoying myself driving it.
You need to do a rsce with weather transitions and day night cycles
does it have the racing line??
Can you please get more lights on the trophy… maybe don’t block it shot so much…
can't you dial in chassis set up to make it handle more to your liking?
Finally. ITS ABOUT FUN AND SIM RACING WITH AMS2! VR is PERFECT
After 6 years of doing esports stuff, I forgot fun was possible in sim racing🤣🤣
Ams2 is not a Gt game, it's a great Formula/Prototypes game. And you are right, if you got the feeling from Project Cars you'll find yourself at home
How's the physic gameplay compare to ACC?
Try the f3, super v8, gt1 and group c stuff. New LMDH’s are dope too but the default setups need some help. EDIT: they also have ginettas in this as I see you drive some recently.
Copy that!
If you like open wheelers, AMS2 is very fun game, if you can accept some quirks in the physics engine. The V10 gen 2, and Formula Hitech are especially good.
For me the best cars in ams2 are the classics. GT1, BMW M1 and the classic Formula, Formula V10 is excellent
Is there no career type mode in AM2?
Tons of fun. The old school formula cars on the old tracks are great to hop in and just go. Never known the the ffb to be the same for anyone
AMS2 has been my go-to sim for racing with my VR. I find iRacing extremely tricky to drive and always feel like I'm driving on soap. I just wish AMS2 had a better replay system. Thanks for the review mate!
I maintain the tail slipping away is wrong. Pretty though
I concur with both of your points here sir.
It's appropriate on some of the historic cars, but it's completely wrong on some of the more modern cars.
agreed and was good to see it happen with James at Brands, when the end just let go on the Merc.
Why have your brake pressure on 100% I always preferred graduated application of brake pressure.
You have some incredible skills.
good to see you on ams2 mate!! try the community events, they are essentially time trails that ams2 throw up each week!
👍
Those B-spec driver names are glorious. I miss that from my gaming days.
Good, it's not just me then😂
I just got a Cube Controls FPro wheel. During sudden changes of direction (with ffb quite high) , I can notice a slight creak sound in the rear part of the steering wheel. I have a Simucube 2 pro base with Simucube quick release, all the screws are very tight. Do you have this "problem" James?
Set the FFB for your wheel instead of the iracing one and toy wull enjoy it more.
Do the update to the GT3 Gen2 and it will feel a bit different they have been updating the physics
Is this only on PC or is there a console
How many cars in stand alone edition? And tracks?
The breaks and Turning feel very strange in Ams2
Spelling and punctuation are appalling here, work on that rather than picking fault in games maybe?
@@gsam_dad5540 How about responding to his actual points? Do dyslexics not deserve to express an opinion?
Porsche cup 4.0 for me ,loads of feel, no driver aids and just enough power to exploit..but i use a humble controller😏
Physics are a bit off compared to AC but the feeling can can be improved massively by using custom FFB
So of all the sims you've driven, which feels the most realistic in a GT3, Daniel Morad favours iRacing over ACC but I don't think he's tried the lot.
can someone tell me what the optimal tyre pressures in ams 2 are like?
There are none, ‘optimal pressures’ is some acc nonsense. It depends on the tyre, but slicks are roughly 80 degrees celsius, wih about 7 degrees IMO (camber is important in ams2)
You tried the worst combo car track in the rain and that with max AI 😂
Try the Nurburgring in the mini cooper with weather changes or GT1. Old cars are pretty fun in AMS2. They also got the latest spa version.
Yeah I definitely didn't maximise my AMS2 experience that's for sure. The fact I chose such a bad combo & still want to play it again shows to me it's a solid game. I'll definitely try it again in the near future.
thought I was watching spiffing brit for a second 🤣
May be GT3 better in RFactor 2?
Can you do one of these on raceroom? Its changed loads over yhe last few years.
Why you don't have GT3 Gen 2 cars? Is it default game with no DLC bought?
Great vid James, I'd love to see you go for some time trial world records! There's tons more content in the game for you to explore in a another video.
Also, if you're on the defualt FFB profile, i would recommend going to default+ or a custom FFB profile 👍
Thanks man. Yep, need to do another video / some streams on AMS2, 100%.
Drinknig game: Take a sip every time James says "Oh no"
Why are you using the old Merc car instead of the new Merc Evo which has better / more advanced physics and FFB?
Probs because he bought the base game and the new Merc Evo is DLC.
@@flyingphoenix113 Exactly.
Thumbs up for the stereotype tea!
Haha.
Just kidding, nice that you tried AMS2 and thanks for sharing the experience. It was fun watching.
I really like the formula hitech dlc, especially the 93 mclaren f1.
In the default game im mostly into group c racing. I just love classic stuff more than new stuff in general.
Im sim racer noob now, I mean i have past EXP but not with the wheel till now.
Racer life im about to try tho, its a add-on for career mode.
Get the DLC's for the best content and the base setups are not always best. Good video!
🤝
OMG you are an awesome driver. Watching this video gave me my answer whether or not I wanted to purchase. My answer was yes. Thank you for sharing..
AMS2 in VR is great so I've heard.
i love it in vr so good
quality content as always‼️‼️
🤝
for me, AMS2 is like Project Cars 2 but better in many aspects. excepting career mode, but there are mods for that. it's a really good racing game, nice physics, FFB, sounds and visuals.
