This video was shot in Lawrence County, Tennessee. The church is Mt. Zion Methodist. My mom and her brothers and sisters used to cross the bridge on Sugar Creek to attend school. The bridge has been replaced over the years and the old one room schoolhouse is now Mt. Zion Church of Christ. My great grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins rest in the graveyard there. It is where my beloved Terri and I will be buried. It's the most beautiful place in the world to me.
This is what TRUE country music should sound like. Not like the other country artists that play pop-country. I hope the civil wars keeps doing what their doing.
One of the greatest tragedies of modern music is that these two aren’t making music together any longer. The two of them together were pure magic, the world isn’t right without them together.
They were so good, it is hard to give up that hope for a reunion. And you know if they would get together and write more songs and sing together again, it would be the same magic.
It’s near the end of 2023 and I’m once again listening to the civil Wars. They were at the top of their profession, what a joy to listen to them once more. Ah well, modern technology has been able to recover what has been produced for the ages.
Really liking this song and the heavy acoustic sound. Also, not only does he kind of have that Johnny Depp look, he also kind of favors Percy Wetmore (the bad prison guard) off of the Green Mile. If I remember correctly, Percy said "Dead man walking" a few times in the movie. I noticed the coincidence when I first saw this video.
I dont care what your differences are. I dont care what your issues are. You are special together. Get over yourselves and do what you are destined to do.Make music
NEVER heard this before and I listen to 3 country stations! They won over.... Don't You Wanna Stay Jason Aldean With Kelly Clarkson You And Tequila Kenny Chesney Featuring Grace Potter Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not Thompson Square This is why COUNTRY has its own AWARDS SHOW... GRAMMY DON'T KNOW COUNTRY!
#THECIVILWARS #BARTONHOLLOW. This was one of the best country/folk duos in music. I am so disappointed that we fans only got two studio albums and one "live" album from them them, before they split. Maybe, one day they will reunite. They were among the best. Such a shame about their breakup 😀👍👍👍🎸🎻🎹🥁🎸💙🧡💛💚💜💖❤️
#THECIVILWARS #BARTONHOLLOW. This is a very complicated relationship the two of them have. They make great music together, appear to be attracted to the other, but they are both married to someone else. Quite the dilemma. What to do? I wish them the best. Fabulous song btw 😀👍👍👍🎸🎻🎹🥁🎸❤️💖💜💚💛🧡💙
This song is so damn primal and fierce. I love it. Gives me chills. It makes me want to pull my Flannery O'Connor anthology off the bookshelf and read through it cover to cover.
Adele said on her website blog that they are the best live act she has EVER seen after they supported her on her recent US tour. She was so impressed she personally asked them to support her on her UK tour. They are absolutely fantastic and thanks to Adele I have recently purchased their album - superb!
I went to the University of North Alabama and married a girl from Cherokee Alabama, 38 years ago, just down highway 72 from Barton. This music is just to good to stop. Please make some more. A combination like this is a once in a lifetime thing. God gave you a great gift. Thank you for the joy and wonder of it.
Just found w years of trying to remember/find it! I stumbled across a live or unplugged version when my son was a baby. He's now 15. I have randomly searched or tried to remember the lyrics to find it, over the yrs. I lost my fiancé recently, and I just wanted a comforting, haunting, amazingly spook familiar
I've said this for very few artist, but this is indeed what music is missing. An excellent bare bones track with amazing vocals. A haunting gem that delivers. Independent Music Critic
Theres such a Southern Gothic feel to this song. And the video perfectly captures the vibe for the track. It almost creates an unexplained mythology for the band that the viewer is left to interpret. Phenomenal group. Wish they were still together.
#THECIVILWARS #BARTONHOLLOW This album is a work of art. #JoyWilliams and #JohnPaulWhite were two of the finest singer/songwriters in music. I so enjoyed their collaboration. Hopefully, there will be more music in the future 😄👍👍👍🎸🥁🎹🎻🎸💚💜💖❤️💛🧡💙
i forgot about this song. I keep hearing this in my head for years because of how much they played this. Whenever I watched MTV music videos, this song would come on a lot.
Absolutely floored by this song the first time I heard it years ago. Still an amazing performance. First heard it on the Mark and Brian show on KLOS in Los Angeles. Their program was not a music show but they were highly recommended to listen to the song by a listener or a friend. They played it and were totally stunned as was I.
Awesome truly magnificent..their passion, her beautiful soaring voice up to the heavens...this song is captivating..the harmonies flawless..the song transported me back to those days in deep south of usa...wish id been alive then.. Bravo ...songstress. Incredible band..way to go..
I'm kinda proud of Lawrence County. We've raised some pretty well liked folks. Fred Thompson, Micheal Jeter ( RIP ).and we can add The Civil Wars to it. I'm sorry for the ones I've forgotten. Oh and the birth place of Southern Gospel.. I think we did ok. Oh I almost forgot a GREAT relief pitcher, David Weathers. Great guy with a huge heart.
I remember when I first seen this video I was like "Johnny Depp is a singer now?!" Then I looked the group up and completely fell in love with them. Buying their album was probably the best $10 I've spent in a while.
ive rilli fallen for this band.....they r wat i refer to as REAL TALENT the harmony in their voices....the passion....they r gonna b reeeeeaaal famous 1 day
Love the way that your work represents a return to the the human voice being the featured instrument. It is impressive. One tends to forget how powerful a properly structured two-part harmony can be. Thanks for the reminder.
This is one of those songs that I had to hear again and again, and after just one listen I'm hooked. These two have something special and I can't wait to see them live.
When I first heard this song I did not like. But the more I heard it the more I started to like it. Now I LOVE this song. It's got soul. It has GUTS. It has substance. It's nice to hear something new.
I love how it only has 20 dislikes. I mean compared to other videos and the amount of people who liked it. But their just a likable band and and so is this song :)
Just discovering The Civil Wars on youtube. Do they have any other songs like this? A lot of what I've seen so far has been soft, acoustic, slow pieces (which are amazing), and I'm currently loving Barton Hollow's louder, rougher sound.
The only reason i watched this the first time was cos i thought he looked like Johnny Deep. Then I realised what absolute GOLD this is. I spent nearly a month listening to this on repeat. Amazing. Just. Amazing.
Their sound is just so amazing. Heard them on CMT and found more of their songs. Crazy talent level here. They harmonize so incredibly well. Might be my new favorite song.
Still here in 2024 waiting for my dreams of them getting back together and singing many more lullabies.....anyone else???
Yep! :-)
me too
Same, 2024 hope this little town still standing after thr hurricane. Still hoping for more from these two!
I would love it so much if they got back together!

My mother's maiden name is Carr...wonder if your hubby & I are related down the line somewhere
i still listen to this song to this day. it’s still as beautifully haunting as it was 11 years ago
Always 🤘
Love the blues and folk style mix here. Wish these 2 were still making music
That's right awesome song I love it
Present! Love them always great band.
Yes, a timeless song and so sad they broke up.
Even in 2023 this still gives me chills
2024 and the song remains a favorite
This is what TRUE country music should sound like. Not like the other country artists that play pop-country. I hope the civil wars keeps doing what their doing.
To mean this sounds more like folk-country. Either way it slaps
Ya that comment didn't age well.
Lol not at all 😅@TurboMountTV
Anybody still here in 2024?
Me
Same! Shame they parted ways, they were an amazing duo
Yes love the way they sing together and the feel of the song
Just listened to it to remind myself how to play it - - lol. Great song for acoustic players!
Forever in love with this song
I wish a nod had been given to The Civil Wars- their harmony was so chillingly beautiful. I especially loved their cover of Billie Jean.
I really miss The Civil Wars! Their sound was so unique!!! LOVED IT!!!🎶🎵
As an avid bluegrass and true country fan, I give this my thumbs up. This is more country than most country. And it's excellent.
One of the greatest tragedies of modern music is that these two aren’t making music together any longer. The two of them together were pure magic, the world isn’t right without them together.
Those goddamn HARMONIES! We didn't get enough of these 2
Ugh I wish these two would get back together and make new songs! Miss these guys!
Such an amazing band. I found them after they had split. Almost as good as Elena Westermann, Broken Hero.

When asked what my favorite country song was, I always responded with "The shortest one". Now "Barton Hollow" is my quick reply.
The first song I ever heard by these 2. I fell hard!!! Never heard any other 2 people harmonize so perfect together. They are beautiful!!
It’s near the end of 2023 and I’m once again listening to the civil Wars. They were at the top of their profession, what a joy to listen to them once more. Ah well, modern technology has been able to recover what has been produced for the ages.
I wept openly when they broke 💔 up....
Me too xx
Yes, their harmonies are haunting, and beautiful; wow. Sad that they are no longer together. What a duo!!!!!
Still one of my fav duo of musicians I have ever heard
Me too!!
This is folk/bluegrass music. Way different than country music!! So you can carry on with your dislike for country and still love The Civil Wars. :D
I NEVER listen to country, but this is the only one I would listen to...
Still loving this in October 14, 2024. ❤️👍

I still get sad about all the music that they won't make.
2022, and still listening to this song.
This is the kind of sound country is supposed to be!

Aging like wine.
This is the song I'd hear on an 1970's outlaw movie.
2024, still listening.

A wild woman
Oh yeah. This song still speaks

Absolute geniuses. A pure American sound---what country should be. The Grammys are a joke. Taylor Swift isn't even worthy to shine their shoes.

Damn they were do good together
Edge Of Never brought me here a year ago, and I still listen to this song at least once a week. It's a good one.
Theres such a Southern Gothic feel to this song. And the video perfectly captures the vibe for the track. It almost creates an unexplained mythology for the band that the viewer is left to interpret. Phenomenal group. Wish they were still together.
I grew up not far where this video was filmed. I swam in that creek and played on the bridge when I was young!
This isn't country. This is what country could've been.
I love this music because it is reminiscent of old-timey bluegrass, especially the harmonies
Love The Civil Wars harmonies and songwriting to this day, still my favorite duo of all-time.
Each time I watch this, I think, "This is the time I will finally get sick of this song." But it never happens. Brilliant duo.

Jesus been ten years ago now wow time flies I remember jammin to this lol
Still. Amazing.
The musical chemistry...
Absolutely floored by this song the first time I heard it years ago. Still an amazing performance.

This is probably the only 'Country' song I like.

she always looks at him so lovingly.
That might have been part of the problem of their demise....just my guess
Still blowing my mind. 👍👍
I remember when I first seen this video I was like "Johnny Depp is a singer now?!" Then I looked the group up and completely fell in love with them. Buying their album was probably the best $10 I've spent in a while.
"Organic" is the perfect way to describe their music. Its not some modern perversion of music like you normally hear on the radio.
ive rilli fallen for this band.....they r wat i refer to as REAL TALENT the harmony in their voices....the passion....they r gonna b reeeeeaaal famous 1 day
I am still listening to this in 2023❤😇🙏👣🐶🐕🐾☺😃🤩🌞☮☸🔆😊💖
I can't believe this was 13 years ago. Still my favorite song from them. Y'all still come back to this like me in 2024-infinity?
I’m so glad I came back to this. I hope you are all doing well.
Wish they had not broken up, loved these 2.
No idea who they were before the Grammy's. Thank God I watched. These two are great.
Love the way that your work represents a return to the the human voice being the featured instrument. It is impressive. One tends to forget how powerful a properly structured two-part harmony can be. Thanks for the reminder.
I still love listening to this song. It’s so sad these two had such a contentious parting. What an incredible duo.
wish all their songs were more like this.
2022 still great
This is one of those songs that I had to hear again and again, and after just one listen I'm hooked. These two have something special and I can't wait to see them live.
Never thought I'd buy music this decade. I was wrong.
this song is beautiful in so many ways .!!
it doesn't hurt them, but their look'in damn good together up there....blew me away
There is no way I could ever get tired of The Civil Wars. Their music is simply amazing.
Their voices...they just cause eargasms!
Words can't describe how much I loveee this.
First song I heard, and from then I was hooked!!!!
Their music is so beautiful in its simplicity. No electronic filler noise required. Simple, raw talent.
2022! Love them!
Still comming here in 2020😍
What the heck happened and why are they no longer a band? Such a loss. Love their harmonies. Poison and wine my fave.
Heard this on the voice. Knew I had heard it before. Had to go back and listen. SO GLAD I did.
Their voices and the guitar. Enough said.
But their just a likable band and and so is this song :)
steel guitars sound so good. wish i still had mine
Now, I am an R&B, Soul, Gospel girl, but this duo is outstanding. Their voices are BEAUTIFUL. OMG : ) Very refreshing.
These 2 are something amazing that only comes along once in a while! Their chemistry and the blend of their voices is so awesome!!!
Just discovering The Civil Wars on youtube. Do they have any other songs like this? A lot of what I've seen so far has been soft, acoustic, slow pieces (which are amazing), and I'm currently loving Barton Hollow's louder, rougher sound.
Adorei! Conheci a música através do livro "Entre o Agora e o Nunca" (The Edge of Never), e achei super incrível!
Eu também 😍😍😍💕
I am watching this because of the grammys. best I've seen so far. Good band.
Still listening! April 22, 2017
The only reason i watched this the first time was cos i thought he looked like Johnny Deep. Then I realised what absolute GOLD this is. I spent nearly a month listening to this on repeat. Amazing. Just. Amazing.
Incredible!!! So glad I heard them on unplugged! Awesome duo/couple!
finally someone bringing back real music about time
Their sound is just so amazing. Heard them on CMT and found more of their songs. Crazy talent level here. They harmonize so incredibly well. Might be my new favorite song.
The Grammy's brought me here and now I have new favorite group. These two are awesome. I have faith in music again!
