She nailed it just like the recording, so used to singing it a million times. I got a signed placard at a concert. She sat a table and signed them after the show. I figured, what the heck, maybe she'll get really big. That's how it was at the time.

This is one of the most profound, Zen, anchoring songs it has been my privilege to enjoy in my 71 years. It still makes me cry in purifying sobs and throw my head back in laughter at the outrageous immutability of life. I am so grateful she wrote this song. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    • @dianadiehl

@@mikeivosevich6130 I see no contradiction. Siddhartha Buddha was an intelligent, enlightened person. Although there is no contemporaneous evidence that a person named Jesus Christ existed, if he did, he may have been similarly enlightened. Just wow! I recently had a run of bad health ( capricious youth and heavy drinking caused major damage in my adulthood ) I had to have my wisdom teeth extracted. The physical pain mixed with the alcohol withdrwals ( which are a cruel form of self induced torture ) were causing a large amount of anxiety stopping just short of full blown intense panic attack vibes. As I was sitting getting ready to begin surgery this song comes on the radio in the office, and I was immediately taken back to 2005 and felt a rush of relief course through my veins. I got choked up and teary eyed listening to those words, that melody and her incredible voice as I took her advice and just started breathing and I was comforted instantly and got through the surgery just fine. Now anytime I get too stressed I just hum this chorus to myself and start to mellow out. The power of music is amazing!

If anyone wants to sing along with lyrics here ya go:
Two am, and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season
Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands
    And breathe, just breathe
    Oh, breathe, just breathe
May he turn twenty-one on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Want to hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, boys
So cradle your head in your hands
    And breathe, just breathe
    Oh, breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around
Two am, and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer
Inside of me, threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Yeah, sing it if you'll understand
    And breathe, just breathe
    Oh, breathe, just breathe
    Oh, breathe, just breathe
    Oh, breathe, just breathe

This song is one of the best written, not only because it’s a fucking masterpiece, but because it’s simple. It tells everything, in a smart way, and it rhymes. I can’t put into words how these lyrics speak to me. It deserved a much better video.

I agree. Such a missed opportunity. It’s her trying to be model-y the whole time, completely ignoring all the emotionally charged stories and situations of the lyrics.
