I think comparing his and Nathan’s styles is like comparing apples and oranges. Nathan is more of a contemporary skater. He can dance, and he has shown that on the ice. Shoma is more of an artist. If he gets more consistent with his jumps, he can be a real threat for Olympic gold.
Congrats Shoma on your bronze medal and being a 3 times Olympic medalist. Nerves got to him in the FP, but I really wish that Shoma can skate to a clean Bolero and Oboe at World's . This is such a difficult and beautiful program. And Shoma is one of the most beautiful skaters.
While I see Hanyu-san as water, I see Uno-kun as fire. His skating always set my heart on fire 😍🔥 I started following Uno Shoma since the last Winter Olympic in PyeongChang (2 years after knowing Hanyu Yuzuru) 😊
It's interesting coming across this comment because I tend to see Shoma more like air. I find he has a very natural style of movement, he doesn't have just power which is akin to fire but flows very well in all his sequences.

He seems like he was struggling to get through this, or something. I don't know. Didn't seem to be enjoying himself. He definitely held back on his trademark cantilever move. But I don't doubt Shoma will be a gold medalist before it's all over.
In 2006, japan only qualified 1 men's olympic spot. 2010, japan got its first mens olympic skating medal. Now it's a disappointment to japan to only get silver and bronze. it is insane how much their men grew in such a short time

He has an ankle injury and hadn't been practicing some of the jumping passes. That mixed with nerves definitely impacted his skate here.
