oh god, stop. seriously. I love Yuri On Ice. But dont ever compare them. Yulia is her own person, you saying this takes away who she is as a person, and takes away all the hard work she has done.
I hope that this program and Yulia will never be forgotten. Because this is hands-down the best free program there is and will be for a long time. God bless her.
This will always be my favorite skating ever. There are no words to explain how good she is. I've been watching many performances from many diferent skaters but this one feels diferent. She's one with the ice and the music. She makes you feel like she's dancing freely in her own world.
The thing is that Eteri has trained dancers more technically talented than Lipnitskaya. But nobody has been able to recreate the magic that was this performance. Her emotion and her expressivity - at just 15 years old - that's what's more out of this world than anything. And I don't think what she has can be taught.
What she has is a rare eternal fire called passion. True, anyone can have passion but few can have passion such as this, it can’t be taught, it has to be felt. If you don’t feel it then you don’t have it
She looks as if she’s skating an entire life story, it’s so beautiful. The emotion, her expressions, and she’s only 15?! I am the same age as she was back then, and she is incredible. Almost 7 years since she performed this, and I always come back to watch it 🤍!
I bet she actually had been skating almost all her life, because figure skaters usually start when they are 3-3,5. Even 4 years old deemed to be too late
You look at her, and it feels as if she is lost in the dance. As if she does't even care there is ice, she just moves like someone not from this world. Her emotions and body are one and you can feel it in her dance. There is a story she is telling with her entire essence. If you did't know what Russian soul is- THIS is it.
Completely agree. I think a lot skating fans mistaken artistry as having dramatic facial expressions (hence Medvedeva 's popularity) but I think nothing will ever beat this program. Yulia was feeling the music with her motions and I think combining that with the subtlety in her expressions actually made this even moving than a full out theatrical act. Plus, if I was watching this from the far back row, I prolly won't be able to see the skaters' faces. I'm not bashing Medvedeva's approach ofc, but I just think Yulia definately outshines her in terms of artistry.
The new generation may jump quadruples, but Yulia’s pirouettes and charisma are just on a whole different level. For me, she will always be the ONE Russian skater. Very sorry about what happened to this wonderful lady, wishing her a happy and healthy future!
@@evelynposey1805 Possibly the person is talking about her fall on her free skate in ladies' singles and failed to medal. She also skated with a leg injury in 2016 rostelecom cup and resulted with a low ranking. Worst of all, at that time she had anorexia (an eating disorder).
@@evelynposey1805 she had to be confined for several months at some point to overcome her anorexia. During the Olympic season she was only consuming powdered shakes.
5 years have passed, but I still can’t forget the little girl in a red coat on ice in Sochi. I watch this dance again and again. Thanks to everyone who created this masterpiece! This is unique!
@@myrandacole9389 It was. She was obsessed with the movie and the girl in the red coat. She insisted on this program against her coach's initial objections (that it was too mature and heavy) and was very definitive about much of the choreography as well (Averbukh being the choreographer who worked with her). Despite so much talent in Russia, I have never seen a program that has left such an impression on so many people as this one. Yulia really is one of a kind.
I was 15 when I watched Yulia's performance to Schindler's List. I could not believe that someone my age was competing at the Olympics. I know Yulia isn't the most technical skater in terms of jumps, but there is something about the way she skates on the ice. She is such a lyrical skater with such beautiful lines and extensions and insane spins. Her program to Schindler's List is truly a masterpiece and really pulls on the heartstrings. Her retirement made me heartbroken but I'm glad that she found happiness now and has her own family.
i'm her age too, and she is iconic. something about her movements is so "laid back", and all that confidence, speed, flexibility and grace in her performances makes is enchanting
@@ds5293it’s the problem of her technique. The technique she used requires her to be small and weightless, hence why she was anorexic and retired from hip and knee injuries due to her technique destroying her body

I will never forget watching this performance when I was 14 years old. I had seen many figure skating performances but I was never a follower of figure skating. I figured I’d watch one performance just for kicks so I turned on the tv and saw this and was completely mesmerized. I’ve never seen such a fluid, raw, graceful and delicate performance by such a mature skater for her age. Her performance had an element that I had never seen in a figure skater before. She was like a little angel on the ice such a prodigy and so talented that it literally drew me in to the world of figure skating. She simply captivated me and since then I have watched too many gps, worlds, and Europeans to count. I’ve seen every performance by Zagitova, Medvedeva, Kihira, Kim, Sakimoto, Trusova, Shcherbakova, Kostornaia but still years later no skater has ever compared to Yulia. She will forever be my favorite skater for so many reasons and this piece will forever be one of my favorites.
Out of this world. I have never seen anybody skates like she did. You see that flow, when she went in and out the jumps. Her spins, jumps, transition, everything, just flawless. Incredible talent.
I have never seen a skater put SO much power into even their rest choreography. Like the commentator said “She uses her entire body with seamless patterns.” Shes astounding.
Shadowboost Her last spin on this performance was bomb. I still remember watching her competing when I was on 5th grade; but now I'm on 9th grade. I am still her number one supporter and fan. It's sad that she ended up retiring at such a young age. Her grace, flexibility, and personality will always be missed on Olympics. But as long as she's happy with her decision, for the sake of her health; I am happy for her also.
I would love to see Camila Valieva perform it. I think she can best it. Valieva's arm leg and hand extensions are like nobody else has. She dances with her own body in a way that is so fluid and gorgeous that I don't see it in any other skater. I'm heartbroken that the ioc has ban Russia from skating. It's going to definitely impact the sport

That moment when you are 21 and you can barely wake up from the sofa to get a glass of water... 15 years old and a gold medal at the Olympics... this is insane
@Green Apples Right, anyone can be the best. That's why the Russians don't hand select their 'champions' at 3 years old based on their natural talent and DNA attributes (in case you didn't get the sarcasm, you're an idiot).
You won't be able to. Now ice skating is getting erased by quads and improper techniques. The emotionality, originality and otherworldness of ice skating is slowly going away. Saying it as a fan of the quad trend setters
For those wondering: Though she doesn't compete anymore from her retirement, she runs a skating academy with other skaters as a coach/teacher. She is doing well (I hope,) and is happily teaching little kids figure skating. :)

@@kaylacoded She grew up poor and she and her mom gave up everything to move to Moscow for a shot at working with coach Eteri Tutberidze, living in their car for a while. She got her chance and this video shows the results of that collaboration. Post-Olympic season, she struggled with puberty and motivation as her teammate Medvedeva rose to prominence. She eventually changed coaches, had limited success in revising technique to her more adult body, and eventually retired at age 17 due to a long battle with anorexia nervosa, probably dating back to this performance. All of this played out very publicly as she was a huge sensation in Russia, which was hard for her as she's a very private person. She seems to be in a better place now as a new mom and starring in Evgeni Plushenko's production of Cinderella.
The commentators see the technic but miss the picture. whereas you see turns, jumps and skating, I see the little girl in Schindler's list with red coat, surviving the Holocaust and her Spirit dances on the ice. Thank you Julia!

It's weird. The generation of quad jumping teens coming out of Russia now have destroyed the world record a dozen times over. But I can't see any of the preternatural grace Yulia has in them despite their scores. She's still one of the greatest Russian skaters alive.

She was genuinely into it!! That's why kids or preteens are so much better at sports when they put passion into it. They are humble and put actual effort instead of wanting to look 'the best' and actually that's what made Yulia stand out which showed off her great skills🤩🥰
@@aldram_guyet It all began with this performance. And, when before Olympics ladies' singles, she avowed, "It was good practice. But the mass media were in the way". We were like "wow, she's cool!", "well said!". The enthusiasm turned into a crazy level. The Japanese have curios about to the worlds people. But at that time, curios level was unreal. When I was the switch on my computer, screen was filled with Lipnitskaya's portraits drawn by Japanese people. I switched from portraits to articles, news was filled with thousands of Japanese articles about Lipnitskaya.
I hate to compare, but with the ladies individual event coming up in PC 2018 I just had to come back and watch this program. Yes, Evgenia is beautiful and graceful, with consistent jumps and spins, etc. She's an actress on ice, and that's very endearing. Yes, Alina (I love Alina!) is an amazing athlete with phenomenal star power, artistry, incredibly tight, rotated jumps, and style. Both girls are young, hardworking, and talented. Yet neither of them, or any of the Russian girls that have come and gone, for that matter, compare to Yulia. At least for me, Yulia just has this amazing fluidity, this incredible feeling for the music, this unparalleled grace that can not be taught or replicated. I've replayed that entry into the triple lutz triple toe countless times, watched the transition out of the triple loop wordlessly. She made me forget that this was a competition, that she was just skating for points - because she wasn't. Her eyes reached into the souls of all her viewers, and her flexibility took our breaths away. Her jumps were timed beautifully with the music. All the stories she told were not as trivial as Evgenia's and Alina's can sometimes feel. Yulia was so sincere in her skating that the story wasn't just "a story" anymore - it was an experience. She is a legend, and no one can take that away from her.
Agreed. The others technically did amazing but this performance in particular has something that will last forever in the minds of viewers. It's the piece of music, it's the skating and the pacing, the fluidity and gracefulness of the skater, something more that hopefully will endure as time passes.
Yet I am still surprised that this program got lower pcs than Evgenia's or other new russian skaters' programs. There is 8 points difference, This should've gotten more PCS points!

So delicate, yet so passionate. You don't even need to be russian to appreciate her performance. Her beauty and innocence is universal. 💘

She eventually changed coaches, had limited success in revising technique to her more adult body, and eventually retired at age 17 due to a long battle with anorexia nervosa, probably dating back to this performance. She was genuinely into it!! That's why kids or preteens are so much better at sports when they put passion into it. They are humble and put actual effort instead of wanting to look 'the best' and actually that's what made Yulia stand out which showed off her great skills🤩🥰
She has an amazing appearance. When she first looked back, it was clear that she would win.
@@climbingamountain86 you really think she didn't want to be the best lmao
what does this even mean
@@climbingamountain86not smart
Watching this again after many years, it still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you, Yulia. ❤
I want to tell you how much Lipnitskaya was huge sensation in Japan.
Japanese were crazy for her and enthusiastic including her personality.
Yuzuru and yulia both!!!
ieiiei11 Japanese are always crazy for everyone 😁
Ekaterina 😎
When was it ?

You should look up Kostornaia, she’s got that same ability :)
Many thanks from Russia for your feedback :)
Yet I am still surprised that this program got lower pcs than Evgenia's or other new russian skaters' programs. There is 8 points difference, This should've gotten more PCS points!
