He is one of the few skaters where I forget that I'm watching a step sequence? Like, with skaters who doesn't have that same level of basic skating and edge quality, it feels like the step sequence grinds the flow of the program to a halt and it feels like just checking a required element box off.
But with Shoma it's all so seamless and he sells it so well that my brain cannot process that this is a step sequence? That I have to make myself remember "oh wait, we haven't had a jump in a while" because I'm so caught up in the performance

I watch this performance every now and again. I’ve never had a skating program move me like this one does. Literal chills every time I watch it. It’s up there imo as one of the greatest of all time.

I am trying to relate escalator to a battleship. I think of him as little battleship Shoma in this very heavy performance that he commands beautifully.

First half 4Lo, 4F, 3Lo, Second half 3A, 4T-2T, 4T, 3A-3F, 3S-3T. That's insane! He truly gave it all he's got. Well deserved silver medal!
Actually Quad loop was underrotated but credited as fullrotated, uno deserved bronze
@@mehmetaliyucel3557 i've just checked 4Lo it's fully rotated. there is no underrotation
@@kayaeda everybody checked in slowmotion, it is clearly underrotated but the judges credited it full rotated because of uno’s momentum in 2017 and 2018 seasons

Shoma could skate this program with zero jumps at all and I'd still jump up and cheer.

turandot is a warhorse music, so many skaters use this. but i really think that turandot is shoma's music! he brought the another level of turandot. I really love his performance. can't wait to see him at beijing 2022 with the new bolero!

Shoma is one of the most charismatic skaters and my favorite. Simply adorable! I follow shoma's work since the juniors and it is impossible not to fall in love with the performance he gives in the programs... Turandot, one of Shoma's best programs. And I really miss the adorable Mihoko Higuchi 💕

His skating is so powerful! That second half was just insane -- the program built and built until the climactic end, and he somehow managed to convey all the expressivity of Puccini's 'verismo'. That 3-jump combo with the first jump landed right on the beat; the final combo, too; and of course the signature cantilever... So much energy there, near the end. It was a great performance!
He'll definitely bring home a medal/s from this competition again!! Claimed it 👌

His technique definitely needs some work tho and so does the two-footed skating in his recent programs unfortunately

Хотя многие и видят в Чене чемпиона ОИ-22г., для меня лучшие - японцы. Программы Нейтана никогда не пересматриваю, а вот Шому и Юдзуру хочется видеть бесконечно, а теперь к ним добавился еще и малыш Юмка. А какие они все разные... Юзу - грация, пластика, изящность; Шома - скорость, мощь, напор; ну, а Юма просто "няшка". Хочу кого-то из них увидеть следущим О.Ч. Надеюсь больше всего на Шому (хотя безумно люблю катание Юзу). Ну, а на счет ПП на ОИ-18г. - Уно "отработал" отлично. Умничка. Браво.

My Shomita! How much I enjoyed his performances there, he was mesmerizing ❤️
He is truly an artist, his drama and acting is on point for this music. His skating skill is one of the best currently on men field, and he is such an endearing character as well. But his jumps are so wild, you cannot tell if he can land them or not. I guess that's also the reason why his performance is so exciting and I have so much anticipation and excitement before and while he performs.
Still got goosebumps watching this performance! 😭

I would recommend the Turandot video that was done before this Olympics in collaboration with shoma, his current coach Stepffan(Stephane Lambiel), and other medalists.

i remember watching this live and still to this day i always start crying at the 3a+eu+3f. one of my fave performances by him even though it wasn’t perfect, the fight and the build up is what makes it amazing
