Born in 14 April 1949 to Colonel Pratap Singh Gurung and Laxmi Gurung, Anuradha Koirala was brought up in a family that regarded providing services for humankind as the best form of pious work. She studied in Saint Joseph Convent School Kalimpong, India.
For more than twenty years, she taught English at various reputed schools of Kathmandu. Mother Teresa was the biggest source of inspiration to initiate a mission for the betterment of humankind. Therefore , in 1993 Ms. Koirala founded Maiti Nepal with the aim of providing services for both children and women who have endured untold pain and suffering, often in silence. Children ,girls and women were being trafficked within and from Nepal for commercial sexual exploitaion. She set up Maiti Nepal with a vow to put an end to this heinous crime.
On 25th November 2010 she was declared as CNN Hero of the year through global on line voting . Her victory as a CNN Hero is a pride and honour to the nation itself

I have to say that I don't have to go as far as imagining my daughter/sister in this situation. It's heartbreaking just to know that a child is being treated that way.

Anuradha Koirala is a True Nepali Hero. Nobel laureate of the future. A living example that you can succeed and get international recognition while working in Nepal. No need to work abroad for international recognition . She and Maiti Nepal team have achieved international recognition independently, without any government support.

The reality of women in Nepal is far beyond what we see. Girls in city areas take their freedom for granted because they don't understand the situation what the girls in Maiti Nepal went through. Actually, men have that positive attitude to stand against human trafficking which most of women don't have in the city areas. I wish every women around me could be a mother who thinks like Anuradha Ma'am.

I too am a fan of anuradha.I request all the people who listen this video will too not do any difference between any people.We as a human should be able to make our country free of girls violence.Why we dscriminate girls?Are not they made with the blood which we have?If we read in younger classes that the people of all countries are a family then why are not we trying to rescue these people.

The dislikers are those who knows her closely or personally as they may hv seen their lives changed after she became cnn hero 2010, with funds swarming in . But it is what happens in nepal . So, not a big deal. She helped many victims . There is no denials in that . But i want to ask maiti nepal about why not every woman and girls passing through borders are checked these days as i witnessed it twice whilst travelling to india via road last year?they rarely interrogate girls . While i travelled the first time, they interrogated only 3 girls including me whilst there were lots of vehicles right there which for sure had many women and girls inside. The second time , i found only 1 questioned . I dont know what to say? Ur ideas are great though, but after that incident, i just dont know what to say aboyt u? May be ur workers in borders are fed up of same boring tasks everyday.i hope u hire more active ones who can weigh these major problems . I am proud to be nepali though and u help us nepalese be more proud than ever. All the best with ur campaign. Say no to strangers and stop human trafficking.
