    I knew someone in high school named Joe Kane and when he ran for class president his slogan was 'he don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie...Joe Kane'. (this was the 1990s for the record)
    Eric Clapton is the greatest guitar player of all times. A LIVING LEGEND!
    I named one of my dogs Layla after his Derek and the Dominos song.

    Great song! This came out when my son was about 3 and he decided that he needed to sing it at the top of his lungs while we were at the grocery store! I suggested that maybe he sing Jesus Loves Me instead. He looked at me and screamed ‘I don’t want to sing Jesus Loves Me! I want to sing Cocaine!! I could have just died! Kids!! 🤣🤣

    This is from the 1977 album Slowhand, which is also one of Clapton's nicknames. It's supposed to be an anti-drug song. Clapton had a well-publicized addiction to heroin and tried to wean himself off the powerful drug by using cocaine and alcohol instead. Two other excellent songs off the Slowhand album are Lay Down Sally and Wonderful Tonight.

    • @marknash65
      @marknash65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that he would view cocaine as a way to end addiction is fascinating. I didn't know this backstory.
      I do know that cocaine's image as a "relatively harmless party drug" changed radically with the deaths of Len Bias and John Belushi. And of course that the emergence of crack as a more marketable street-level version also changed the way it was perceived by the public as well.
      But in the mid-70's, I can see how it could have been viewed as "relatively harmless." Compared to heroin, almost *everything* is "relatively harmless."

    • @CobraFat2000
      @CobraFat2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marknash65 There was the whole thing where Pemberton invented the French Wine Coca which contained the ingredient cocaethylene (cocaine mixed with alcohol) for the purpose of battling morphine addiction for the wounded who got addicted. Morphine and heroin are both opiates. The invention of this drink (which later got stripped of the alcohol and cocaine parts in 1899 because of a social stigma surrounding the rampant use of cocaine at the time) lead to the creation of Coca Cola.
      I guess the whole cocaine not being a "relatively harmless party drug" idea surged several times as well as it being the lesser evil in comparison to opiates like heroin.

    "Clapton is God" -- Eric Clapton was the guitar hero of London before Jimi Hendrix hit the scene. He played with The Yardbirds ("Good Morning, School Girl"), John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers ("Ramblin' on My Mind"), Cream ("Sunshine of Your Love", "White Room", "Crossroads", "Badge"), Blind Faith ("Can't Find My Way Home"), Derek and the Dominos ("Layla"), and The Beatles ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps") -- all in the decade before he dropped "Cocaine" after scoring a hit with his cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" in the seventies and the live version of "Cocaine" from his 1980 album "Just One Night" got a lot of radio airplay well into the eighties. And that's just scratching the surface.

    Try JJ Cale's version of this song, the original and best from the writer! Even Clapton would admit to this.

    Clapton's gifts are evident. The drummer, Eric Oldaker, was intense, as well. His use of symbols was among the best I've heard.
