My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.

Gary Rossington played the slide guitar which was a trademark sound of the Allman Brothers Band. Both bands were originally from Jacksonville ,Fl. When “Free Bird” was released, some fans speculated that it was a tribute to Duane Allman, the Allman Brothers Band guitarist who passed away in 1971. The guitar riffs at the end are reminiscent of Allman’s, causing people to believe it was about him.

I avoid old music, because so much of it makes me sad. I have too many memories attached to most songs. I used to know the original drummer, Bob Burns in the 80s before I moved to the west coast. His living room wall was covered with gold and platinum albums. He lived in a humble home even though he still got $million checks. I just happened to be visiting GA when he passed away. He was a nice guy who pulled himself back together after being institutionalized. The drugs they used were hard on him.
