Eric Clapton is the only triple inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a solo artist, as a member of the band Cream, and as a member of the Yardbirds. He has a huge catalog of recognizable music.

@@seanswinton6242 If I remember, correctly, my comment was a reaction to both of them sying that they'd never heard of Eric Clapton. Seriously, how does that work, exactly? There's such a thing as cultural literacy, and both of them are teachers, for heaven's sake.
A year ago, these two regularly made just ridiculous statements like this one. Watching their more recent TH-cam releases, though, it's pretty impressive to see how much they've grown in music knowldege and sophistication.

Just a little trivia: Clapton played Stevie Ray Vaughan’s last concert with him the night he died. Eric accompanied SRV's brother, Jimmy Vaughan, to the morgue the following morning to make the identification of Stevie's body. Eric was not able to go to Dallas for Stevie's funeral due to a concert obligation. Eric also felt his presence would only be a distraction when the service was to mourn and honor Stevie.

Just like Clapton covered Bob Marley's I shot the Sherriff. I encourage you to also check out these JJ Cale songs from the same album, "Let Me Do It to You", "Cherry" and "You Got Me On So Bad". The song was written by JJ Cale, and Cale was a huge influence on Clapton’s singing and playing at the time. Clapton was struggling with drug and alcohol addiction around this time, so there’s some intentional irony to him choosing the song.
If you don’t know Clapton, check out his playing with the 70s rock Cream on Sunshine of Your Love, and his late 80s solo album Journeyman especially the track Bad Love. Journeyman was a huge influence on John Mayer’s recently released album Sob Rock.
For me his best album all-round is probably 261 Ocean Boulevard. It’s the album where he showed he could sing and play with taste and no longer needed to show off as he had in his earlier career.

@@laurenfelsberg6406 Think Harrison was actually married to model, Patty Boyd, at the time. Ostensibly Clapton's relationship with Boyd started as friend offering her support during a Harrison episode of infedelity... and the rest, as they say, is history. He and Harrison were already friends. Popular lore also has it that Harrison tried to help Clapton during his worst episodes of heroin use.

Eric is another English guitarist who got his love of the guitar and his style by legendary black R&B guitarists like Muddy Waters and BB King. This song was obviously made during the drug years. Eric was in the band Cream. He is one of the leading rock, blues guitarist of the past 30 years. He dated Sheryl Crow by the way. He wrote a hit song (one of many hits actually!) lamenting the loss of a girlfriend who later became guitarist George Harrison (Beatles) wife.

He has a long history of great music with great bands like Cream, Derek & The Dominos, Blind Faith and many others. You should listen to all of these bands. Eric Clapton is one of the top 5 guitar players of all time. You mentioned this sounds "funky" the reason is one of Clapton's idols was Chuck Berry of "Jonny B Goode" fame. He has said in multiple interviews how much of an effect Chuck Berry had on his guitar playing.
Eric Clapton was in several bands over the years: Cream, Derrick and the Dominos, The Traveling Willberries, and his solo career. All of his music is great no mater the time period or group his was / is in.
If you want to hear more Clapton, "White Room", "Layla" go for the non-acoustic version, "You look wonderful tonight" (Amber really gonna love this one) and "Tears in Heaven" (both of you will cry). "It's all right"
The above songs are just scratching the surface of how deep this man's career has been. Enjoy

Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time.[2] Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"[3] and fourth in Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time".[4] He was also named number five in Time magazine's list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009
John Weldon "J. J." Cale[1] (December 5, 1938 - July 26, 2013) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Though he avoided the limelight,[2] his influence as a musical artist has been widely acknowledged by figures such as Mark Knopfler, Neil Young and Eric Clapton, who described him as "one of the most important artists in the history of rock".[3] He is considered to be one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz.

😆😆 This song was my dad’s favorite song and my mom’s worst nightmare. Back in the 70’s when I was a kid in middle school and playing baseball, my family would go to the Dairy Queen after the game for burgers and shakes. On the way in my dad would go straight to the jukebox and this was his song to play first. To make things worse for my mom, my dad learned where the volume control was on the back of the jukebox and always turned it up. As soon as the song started you could see my mom’s head dip down behind the menu. My brother and sister and I had know idea what the song was about, but we knew all the words and sang them out as if we were the ones on stage. The entire song my was kicking dad telling him to turn it down before any of our neighbors would show up from the ballpark. Sure enough the front door would fly open and here they all come in, dads singing and moms yanking on there arms. Best of all my teammates would run over to the table to join in singing. It was ELECTRIC!

Clapton is LEGENDARY!!! Solo work, Yardbirds, Cream, Derek & The Dominos. Although a Brit, himself, Clapton's band during a good portion of the 70s was almost all Tulsa musicians. This track is a cover. JJ Cale ( a Tulsa musician ) wrote the track. Clapton is kinda the unofficial king of the Tulsa Sound.
Other Tulsa musicians worth checkin' (not all necessarily Tulsa Sound): Leon Russel ( track Tightrope ), Elvin Bishop ( track Fooled Around And Fell In Love ), Bread ( singer David Gates is from Tulsa. track Guitar Man ), JJ Cale ( track Call Me The Breeze ), GAP Band ( track Burn Rubber On Me or You Dropped A Bomb On Me )
Side note: Leon Russell owned The Church Studio in Tulsa ( and Shelter Records ). The first album that Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers released was on Shelter Records and was recorded in The Church Studio: check Tom Petty's track Refugee. Other prominent artists to record at The Church: Clapton, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, GAP Band, Freddie King, Phoebe Snow, Peter Tosh.
Stewart Copeland ( drummer The Police ) did the soundtrack music for the Coppola film Rumble Fish and recorded a lot of it at another Tulsa studio ( Long Branch, I believe it was called ).
