    The song was originally JJ Cale. It was "anti-cocaine". "She don't like, she don't like... she don't lie..." "Down on the ground" "you can't get it back".... yeah.. it's definitely a cautionary tale.

    This one was written by JJ Cale, he wrote other songs that became hits for other folks. He also wrote After Midnight, which Clapton also had a hit with, and he wrote the song Call Me The Breeze as well, a song that Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded and had a lot of radio play. I'd suggest take a close look at JJ Cale, because he was a phenomenal singer/musician as well.

    No, you're right Slowhand IS Eric Clapton's nickname. That's why he called the album that. There's an interview with Eddie Van Halen where they ask him about his major influence. He says...
    "I know everyone says Jimi Hendrix, but no, it's old Slowhand."
    And interesting side note...
    Eddie would watch Eric play and noticed he only used three fingers. He thought.. that's 25% speed that you're missing, so Eddie started playing with all 4 fingers.

    When Clapton was with the Blues Breakers he played so hard that he broke a string fairly often. When that happened he would come to a complete stop and put on a new string right there on stage in front of God and everybody. And he took his sweet time about it. The audiences began to respond by clapping slowly and deliberately. Often referred to as a “slow hand”. So Slowhand is, indeed, his nickname and this album is double self titled. Eric Clapton Slowhand is just 2 ways to say the same thing. Much love ❤️ (And she really is beautiful.)

      @@barsandbarbells2022, another cool thing to know is that Eric Clapton is one of only two people to ever play on a Beatles song. Billy Preston played keyboards several times and Clapton got kinda tricked into playing the lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps by his buddy George Harrison because George knew what he wanted, but just couldn’t quite get it right himself. And during the White Album sessions, when George had pretty much just about quit, John Lennon suggested they invite Clapton to join the Beatles.

    Clapton's best song is Layla. He did it with his band called Derek and the Dominos. If you want to hear his most popular song you have to do the studio version of that song

    • @wendymotogirl
      @wendymotogirl ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. It's certainly his most popular, I think. The live version from I think...the 80s was good but the original recording is atrociously mixed. It sounds awfully muddy.

    • @TheNewRevolution
      @TheNewRevolution ปีที่แล้ว

      @wendymotogirl with Duane Allman playing slide guitar and the piano outtro, Layla is definitely one of the greatest recordings ever made. Tom Dowd recorded it, one of the greatest producers of his generation. He would probably disagree with saying it sounds "muddy." With Bobby Whitlock on keys and singing backup. Jim Gordon on drums. Clapton never had a backing band as good as the one on the Derek and Dominos record. 461 Ocean Boulevard is another record I prefer over Slowhand. I know music is subjective, and it's all what you prefer. For me, the Derek and Dominos record is the record I listen too more than any record Clapton made. It's a masterpiece.

    "Slowhand" is a nickname for Eric Clapton and has nothing to do with the album of the same name. The name came about because one of the strings on his guitar broke at live concerts. But the music was not stopped, the band continued to play quietly while Clapton calmly replaced his guitar string. This took time and the audience clapped slowly to the beat, which gave rise to the nickname "Slowhand".

    Well,since you asked,yes Samantha looks wonderful tonight! (She always does)No puns intended😏Im a weird guy,but i know how to behave,so she might blush abit in peace now,as i will leave it right HERE. Eric Clapton has influences from pop,rock,soul,funk,reggae,blues and then some i think,he has done collabs all over the genres really.
    Phil? Samantha? Are you ready for Eric to spice it up for you 2? Eric Clapton - Layla - Madison Square Garden 1999. (Uploaded by
    Tim Buktu,and this has the best picture quality despite other uploaders claiming to have HD versions,there is sadly no full HD uploads yet of this performance,but the quality of Tim Buktus upload is good enough for a reaction) Normally i would recommend the guy that uploaded this version first,Albert Canta wich has over 150m views,but for a reaction video his low 240p is abit rough to recommend to you,at least Tims upload is abit over double as good resolution. There is one at 720p claiming to be HD,but the quality is really blurry. Tim has the best upload hands down.
    This is Eric in his prime,all smiling and teasing the audience with letting them guess what song comes next in the intro (also pay attention to his bassist at the start). I recommend this performance over ANY other Layla performances on YT,when you watch this version,you will know why. Its another love story but this time more spicy and direct.

    The best version of this song is from his 1977 live record "Just One Night.'

    I'd like to recommend a good friend of Clapton's, Steve Winwood. I think you guys wotld like a live version of Dear Mister Fantasy from Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Fesrival in 2007. And right after that another live performance at the same concert where Claption and Winwood do Can't Find My Way Home. Two rock gods in fine form. Yes, beautiful is the word.

    His style is heavily blues/folk influenced where it's common that you're telling a story and there is a repetition etc. Reminds me a bit of the Grateful Dead

    Have you reacted to the band Cream? Eric Clapton was the guitarist for that band before he went solo. Jack Bruce was the singer and Ginger Baker was the drummer.
    Songs to check out by Cream: White Room, Sunshine of Your Love, I Feel Free, Strange Brew (Eric sings lead on this one so find a live TV performance, it's black and white)

    Amazingly, in the '70s cocaine was initially thought to be a harmless party drug.

    Even though this got released in 1977 and the 80's was the cocaine decade, I guess Eric was just ahead of his time. lol. And yes, Samantha is beautiful.

      Written AND performed in 1976 by JJ Cale as a cautionary tale. (His version "She don't like... she don't like....") Clapton covered the song as well as some other JJ Cale songs, "After Midnight" and "Traveling Light".... Lynard Skynard covered another JJ Cale great "The Breeze".
