Eric Clapton is actually the greatest guitarist that is still living although you can't leave out people like Mark knopfler and people like that but you're actually watching the acoustic version of this song Eric Clapton come from a group called Derek and the dominos you oughta watch some different versions of this song Eric Clapton can really shred something serious he's one of the hardest electric guitarist to follow because of his skills he is a natural when I was young on thing I knew is that my Mom and Dad loved him but as I got older I can see why this man is the truth he also does blues festivals he's even perform with b.b. King
If you ever get the chance go to TH-cam and look up My guitar gently weeps with Eric Clapton doing the lead guitar and everything else will be self-explanatory! Definitely worth checking out I think you'll actually like it to the point to where it will be your next reaction LOL but keep up the good work I'm digging the videos
The ORIGINAL needs to be played. Layla is about a story given to him and Patti Harrison , GEORGE ’ wife. Evidently, it's a love story about two people who can't be together. Long story short, he married GEORGE HARRISON'S wife.
I’ve learned since listening to yours reaction you have a fondness for the acoustic guitar and good bass playing. Even if you decide not to review the music included, you should listen to it privately. I’ve been a fan of EC for almost 60 years. I enjoy your reactions sir, keep up the good work. th-cam.com/video/fGDIxcuPT7s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qZr6pZ5KJZWRqk6r
OMG, this version is so stylized and laid back it's nothing like the original track. You may have had your first taste of Clapton, but you still haven't heard Layla. The studio version features one of the most searing electric lead riffs from the period, nothing short of iconic. And the whole song transforms for a long sweeping coda that is just gorgeous. The only things this has in common are the words, the chord progression, and the man sitting there. Please give it another shot and listen to Layla from the studio.
A long time ago, in the 1970s, some of the DJs at our local radio station (KSAN 94.9 FM (aka "the Jive 95")) would open every show with the original version of Layla. Good way to wake up in the morning.
“Layla” was a song Clapton wrote, with Dominos drummer Jim Gordon, about his forbidden love for the wife of his close friend George Harrison (she eventually became Clapton’s wife).
Her name was Pattie Boyd. She was a model that George Harrison met while the Beatles were filming A HARD DAY'S NIGHT. She was one of the blonde school girls on the train.
Her name was Patty Boyd, and George Harrison also wrote a song about her. Can you imagine 2 of the most famous musicians in the world writing a song about you. I can't recall the name of the song that George wrote, but it's a beautiful love song.
Something is the only George Harrison song I remember because it is my favorite song of his. Believe they both wrote two songs inspired by her, Wonderful Tonight is the other song by Eric Clapton.
The original studio version was electric and up tempo with Eric on lead guitar and Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers sitting in on slide guitar with Eric's group that he formed called Derek and the Dominoes. It was in 1971and it's a classic and was a hit as single. He did MTV Unplugged in the early 90's and that is when he first did Layla acoustically. That live version became a single and Layla was once again at the top of the charts 20 years after the studio debut.
This performance is even a little different from the remake. He picked up the tempo a bit and the drum...I don't even know how to describe the difference. Shuffle or swing maybe? Idk.
If I recall correctly, he’s the only artist ever to win a Grammy for a song, and a cover/remake of his own song. This is the newer version , the original is much grittier, and definitely worth a listen.
Eric Clapton is beyond a legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist. Tears In Heaven is a great next choice(the video is a soundtrack from the movie Rush). He wrote it for his 4 year old son Conor, who died when he fell out of a window of his 53rd story apartment. Wonderful Tonight Lay Down Sally Change The World The list goes on.... He has inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, for his bands The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist.
He's called slowhand because, way back when, if he broke a string on his guitar, the concert would stop, he would replace the string. The British being British would start a slow hand clap during these "breaks", Chris Dreja (guitarist in the Yardbirds with Eric) gave him the nickname Slowhand based on that.
The Derek and the Dominos version is a classic ROCK song. Give it a listen. The amazing Duane Allman on slide guitar compliments Clapton's work greatly. The piano outro of the original version is EPIC! If you've ever seen the movie "Goodfellas", you'll understand.. This acoustic version is almost a reggae/swing version. It's a good re-mix, but the original is the ultimate! Thanks for your platform!
Eric Clapton was the first of the 3 famous guitarists in the London band The Yardbirds, along with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, quit when he was 20 and joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, and finally Derek and the Dominos in 1970, making classic recordings with all of them. He’s been a solo artist since about 1970, when his first solo album came out, although the Derek and the Dominos record was actually recorded after that. He also was a friend to Beatles, Stones, Who, Hendrix, … and played on a Beatles record, a Stones record, was uncredited but all over George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Pass’, was part of John Lennon’s band on a couple live gigs… maybe the premier English guitarist. Anything from Derek and the Dominos is great studio or live.
I am so glad you finally got to Clapton. He is my very favorite musician.I am 68 yrs and have listened to him since his earliest days. I named my son after him because he brought me a lifetime of joy. Listen to his electric music also. It's amazing. Love your work.
He was one of the people that help Stevie Ray Vaughan get clean and sober. He's on the list of best guitar players. He can rock with the best of them. Clapton the only artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. Bands were Cream, Yardbirds, and his solo career. Should listen 🎶 to Tears In Heaven re his 4 yr old son who fell out of 50 story window.
@Jason I have only seen cocaine and alcohol.. never once have I seen heroin. Heroin is such a scourge that if you're gonna claim he was on heroin, better state your source. Sorry to say that one illegal drug is classier than the other, but it is.
“ Layla” was his wife, Patti Boyd- who left her first husband, George Harrison of the Beatles for Eric. She eventually left Eric too. George wrote a glorious love song about her that is still considered one of the best ever written- Something😊 . So Patti inspired two great songs!!😂
This is the acoustic version of the same song he did in a much more rock version years earlier. This was the second time this song hit the top of the charts. Both songs have a different feel. It shows his mastery of the guitar that he can play it both ways. He has had a 60 year career and back in the 60's there was grafitti on the walls in England saying "Clapton is God". He has the respect of a ton of artists especially in the blues genre.
Toy Story song is You've Got A Friend In Me. You need to listen to the original version of Layla...it will blow you away. The slower acoustic version is awesome too but the original is amazing.
The songwriter/ singer of the Toy Story song is the phenomenal Randy Newman. He may be an acquired taste for some because he’s very unusual but so brilliant. And I agree that you really need to listen to the full electric version of Layla with the group Derek And The Dominos. You should know that Eric Clapton played in many different bands over the years and so many fantastic musicians. You should listen to Cream- just 3 top musicians (Eric Clapton with Jack Bruce on Bass and Ginger Baker). “Crossroads” is phenomenal. Layla is his pet name for the wife of his best friend he fell in love with in real life. She was Pattie Boyd and she was married to George Harrison, one of the Beatles. It’s quite a story. She did end up with Eric eventually for some years before they crashed. But both he and George wrote great songs inspired by her.
It must be so hard to sing the same song thousands of times, and still put emotion into it. I mean he’s been singing this song for over 50 years or close to that.
Amazing reaction! Love Eric Clapton, saw him live twice, he hits a certain spot inside of me.. There a many various versions of this song, some very fast and nearly "aggressive", some very laid back.. you should try the unplugged version it's absolutely fantastic
His blues album, From the Cradle, is what got me into blues back in high school. I was unaware of the sort of English blues revival that a lot of those classic rock greats had been part of back in their early days, so was quite surprised when I saw the CD at a random road trip stop at House of Blues in New Orleans. Whole thing is a great listen.
Just stumbled across your channel. There are so many great live performances many going way back like the Righteous Brothers in the 60s (You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - most plays on the radio in the 20th century), The Animals (House of The Rising Sun), Arlo Guthrie (City of New Orleans), AC/DC (Thunderstruck), The Carpenters, Mamas and the Papas, so many great performers
Hey Polo, just discovered your channel, what a fun visit you create. But, what I truly love is your honest and heartfelt emotions you display. My first exposure to you, was your first exposure to Phil Collins "In the air tonight" I was sitting there awaiting/anticipating the drum solo, trying to tell you "wait for it" then BAM! Your format & personality had already caught my attention; But your reaction was priceless! That's when I became a fan. When I looked at your playlist I was even more excited! Lots of my favorites, old and new. You might like: Nights in white satin, Moody blues with the Philharmonic Orchestra... American Pie, Don McClean Keep up the good work I got some binging to do.
This is the wrong Layla, barely a shell of the album version, which was released in the late 60’s on a record called “Derek and the Dominos”, which was a one-off collaboration by Clapton and the late Great Duane Allman. I still remember the first time I heard that version aboit 45 years ago when I was 13. It is a rock masterpiece. Please check it out.
The original version is so good I have spent entire days listening to it on repeat. The way Clapton and Duane Allman played back and forth with each other makes it so there's always something new to find hidden in all the layers they wove together. I would definitely recommend giving the original a try sometime.
Please listen to the original! It's fast and amazing! He did this under Derek and The Dominoes. You will be so impressed when you heard the electric guitar solos throughout.
I LOVE that you didn't listen to anything outside your teeny bubble of music genre and time! Watching your reaction to the classics and seeing in your face, how I feel.... it makes my day!
I’d recommend that you listen to the original, from the album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” by Derek & the Dominos. Much different, and equally (if not more) amazing. By the way, the song Layla was written for Pattie Boyd, who was Clapton’s friend George Harrison’s wife at the time. He wanted to woo her away, but in the end she couldn’t do it even though Pattie and George no longer got along.
I had just gotten my first acoustic guitar right as this album was released. I learned the whole thing front to back. Clapton is God. This was his return to the spotlight.
This song was written about PATTI BOYD his ex wife, and the ex of George Harrison. Patti has had more songs written about her than any other woman in history. LAYLA< BELLBOTTOM BLUES< WONDERFUL TONIGHT< SOMETHING
In just a few weeks I go to see Eric play at the Royal Albert Hall, this is my first Clapton concert. So excited for this.. Perhaps you should listen or react to Motherless Child, Running on faith, let it grow, Badge, Crossroads, forever man, Bad Love, after Midnight, Wonderful Tonight... Start from the top 🤣 then try tears in heaven, knocking on heavens door, rock n roll heart ❤
Just came across this channel like 20 minutes ago. Man music is passion and I love that you’re expanding genres! I grew up on hip hop too and when I got older I started branching and I’ve just gone with it. My music taste is all over the place. This is one my favorites. Awesome man! Subscribed for sure
Hey Polo. You're one of the few reactionists that's I actually subscribed to period I think you're doing a service for a young people who would miss out on songs like layla and others like tears and heaven by The same artists. And the fact that you're from cleveland woo woo woo. Keep up the good work. The kids need to hear this music
Very nice. Great guitar player. Really one of the players that introduced a whole generation of people to the blues. The list of great guitar players that came out of the UK in the “60’s is just ridiculous. Clapton, Beck, Page, Green, Richards, Harrison, Blackmore, Iommi, Hendrix (Yes US citizen, but blew up in the UK),…….
Man I've been listening to Eric Clapton since the early 70s. Of course he started recording in teh 60s but Im not quite old enough to have been interested in music that far back. haha. Anyways, over 4 decades, ECs style of playing and also his voice evolved tremendously. He has had super hits, then re-arranged them to be even more super. It's crazy what he can do. The man is a super super talent and he plays several genres of music. Of course he's almost 80 now but he still performs around the country. Easily one of the top musicians of all time.
It is so amazing to see your first reaction to the music of my life. Love your appreciation. The late 60s and through the 70s and 80s were amazing times for new sounds, rhythms, voices and talent.
An early live performance by the band Cream, a rock trio with Clapton, Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker is a concert l attended in San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium 1968 where they did a wild version of "Crossroads". That's one you may want to check out.
Discovered you from your stellar Harry Mack reactions ... and you've grown to be one of my top-3 reactors ) alongside Rob Squad Reactions & Van, from LFR Family. Listening to you on the way home from work is like getting to hang out with an old friend --- you just seem like a chill dude with a good heart & lots of insight. If you're ever in PHX, drinks are on me. 😊
Eric Clapton is super versatile .. he has this laid back song another much more upbeat track called Cocaine and a much slower extremely sad song about his young son who passed called Heaven
He has a catalog going back to the mid sixty’s and I’ve seen him more times than I have fingers and toes. It’s a deep amazing ride if you take it, it will amaze you
Not only genre lots of people never listen to music from before their time. That’s why as a boomer I love watching the reactions of younger folks as they hear songs for the first time. There is also much music from before my generation also.
Tears in Heaven. Clapton wrote this after his young son died after falling from of their apartment window. His grief, I believe was comforted by his music.
One of the guitar legends right here!!!!you should here his original version, much faster and harder when he was younger. This is the smooth relaxed version. Freaking beautiful........
This is from an "unplugged" concert on MTV, back when MTV was still kind of about music. Kind of. Lol. Most bands doing these sat down as these were very chill concerts. You should look into all of them. Imagine groups like Nirvana doing this.

There are better versions out there. Clapton is a Brit, but when he was young, he loved to go to the deep south and learn the Blues.
Please polo listen to the original version
You need to hear a different version !
You definitely need to listen to the studio rock version….IMO an infinitely better version of this song!!
I concur! In this case, the original version is better! Blow ya away! ❤
Oh man, you need to hear the original! It's one of the greatest electric guitar riffs of all time!

In the world of guitar greats, Clapton is rightfully seated amongst the top players. So smooth, so damned smooth.
“Layla” was a song Clapton wrote, with Dominos drummer Jim Gordon, about his forbidden love for the wife of his close friend George Harrison (she eventually became Clapton’s wife).
There are a lot of Laylas out there because of this song.
@@patriciabilinkas3911 lol. So true.

R.I.P. Duane Allman
This version is beautiful but I prefer the original.
Duane and Eric were awesome together!! To bad Duane died so young, you know he had so much more music in him!!
Original is so sick!
If I recall correctly, he’s the only artist ever to win a Grammy for a song, and a cover/remake of his own song. This is the newer version , the original is much grittier, and definitely worth a listen.
oh yes!
Also inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame 3 times
Polo you need to listen to the original "Layla". In the original the band was named "Derek and the Dominoes"
Eric Clapton is beyond a legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Tears In Heaven is a great next choice(the video is a soundtrack from the movie Rush).

Probably the best sad song ever
yOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THIS SONG! CLAPTON WAS GOD!
YES INDEED!
The original “Layla” with Derek and the Dominos and Clapton is a must!
You definitely need to react to Layla with the full band all electric versions he did when he was in his prime. It’s more rock than anything!
Eric is such a legendary player. They don’t call him “Slowhand” for nothing. You should listen to his blues electric guitar playing.
Especially when he plays with Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Yes, Clapton’s album ‘Me and Mr Johnson’, where he plays and sings the blues music written by Robert Johnson
Isn't he wonderful? No one can match old Slowhand. Love him. Glad you're checking him out. He's got decades of music out there!
Totally agree! He has this special tone you can't explain.. he's great!
OH PLEASE, JIMMY PAGE IS TOP FOR ME. Clapton is boring AF...and he's turned into a real AHOLE now, too.
The Derek and the Dominos version is a classic ROCK song. Give it a listen. The amazing Duane Allman on slide guitar compliments Clapton's work greatly. the original, non acoustic version really shows his guitar skills.
The acoustic and studio versions are utterly different songs. Each is magnificent in its own way.
Ditto
Nah Polo, Clapton never gets old to me and I'm 63. I'm just happy that you are enjoying this as well. You're watching a genius at work.
He was one of the people that help Stevie Ray Vaughan get clean and sober. He's on the list of best guitar players. He can rock with the best of them. I've read extensively about Stevie Ray and nowhere have I read anything about Eric Clapton helping Stevie get sober. Where would you have read that?

Clapton with BB King on 3 o’clock blues. Fantastic
Agreed! And anything else off “Riding with the King,” really.
You had me at BB King…
“ Layla” was his wife, Patti Boyd- who left her first husband, George Harrison of the Beatles for Eric. She eventually left Eric too. George wrote a glorious love song about her that is still considered one of the best ever written- Something😊 . So Patti inspired two great songs!!😂
I can listen to Clapton play all day. He is one of the true gods of guitar.
Love your laid back chill vibe. Who knew a loud over the top performance wasn't required on TH-cam?
I love these guys. I’m 68 and have seen them twice in concert. They are so talented!
At a concert my brother said "he has the guitar plugged into his heart". Best discription I ever heard

He makes playing the guitar seem effortlessly easy. A beautifully subtle version of this number.
He’s one of the all time best blues guitar players ❤

He's playing at Budokan in Tokyo. His favorite place. That's what his comments were about.
Mr Clapton simply A legend. The studio recording want to listen to. Duane Allman on slide guitar incredible

This was his return to the spotlight.
well his unplugged album was in 1993-1994 anyway.
This song was written about PATTI BOYD his ex wife, and the ex of George Harrison. Patti has had more songs written about her than any other woman in history. LAYLA< BELLBOTTOM BLUES< WONDERFUL TONIGHT< SOMETHING
ONE of Thee Best songs to Start off With! Excellent Choice!!! YOU will love Eric Clapton
Eric loves the blues and has played with the best of the best. The greatest guitar player❤
He did an album with B. B. King and you better be in a good mood when you listen to it.....It is so blueie
The difference between good and the best is that ability to make it better LIVE ,feeding off the audience .
Wonderful tonight, tears in Heaven, Change the World- so much more
You need to listen to his work from the 60's with Cream - an unparalleled power trio!
He plays beautifully, with Phil Collins,in the song Wish it would rain. His guitar playing is effortless.
I love listening to Eric Clapton play the guitar! I love this song!
One of the best of all times
Just came across this channel like 20 minutes ago. Man music is passion and I love that you’re expanding genres! I grew up on hip hop too and when I got older I started branching and I’ve just gone with it. My music taste is all over the place. This is one my favorites. Awesome man! Subscribed for sure
It would have been great to hear a Concert with Eric Clapton, and Leona Boyd.
Hey Polo. You're one of the few reactionists that's I actually subscribed to period I think you're doing a service for a young people who would miss out on songs like layla and others like tears and heaven by The same artists. And the fact that you're from cleveland woo woo woo. Keep up the good work. The kids need to hear this music
Yup! That’s Clapton, flawless!
The Layla lick on guitar was Claptons and one of the most famous and replicated licks in rock&. Roll History.
Probably greatest guitarist ever!
I love Eric Clapton singing Harvest Moon. It’s a must listen.
Love this song !! Thank you for reacting to it!
It is so amazing to see your first reaction to the music of my life. Love your appreciation. The late 60s and through the 70s and 80s were amazing times for new sounds, rhythms, voices and talent.
His song tears in heaven is a great song
Clapton can shred with the absolute best in history.
An early live performance by the band Cream, a rock trio with Clapton, Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker is a concert l attended in San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium 1968 where they did a wild version of "Crossroads". That's one you may want to check out.
You need to hear his earlier, rock version. The way it was first recorded. Hard hitting rock. So great.
Great Clapton song to start out with! God bless
Hello from Cody Wyoming! You're awesome. You gotta dive into this rabbit hole man... you will not be disappointed! Please never stop I watch everyday😊
Wow thanks I really appreciate that. much love fam
Eric Clapton is a LEGEND! So many bands and solo career! Love him! Keep listening to Clapton!
Eric Clapton is super versatile .. he has this laid back song another much more upbeat track called Cocaine and a much slower extremely sad song about his young son who passed called Heaven
He has a catalog going back to the mid sixty’s and I’ve seen him more times than I have fingers and toes. It’s a deep amazing ride if you take it, it will amaze you
One of my absolute favorite performers, I'd love to see him in concert
Love the little flash back of you
My fave version of this song
He was rated the #1 guitar player in the world four years straight
Not only genre lots of people never listen to music from before their time. That’s why as a boomer I love watching the reactions of younger folks as they hear songs for the first time. There is also much music from before my generation also.
Clapton, and Layla, real first artist and music I really listened and loved at my uncle place when I was around 9 !, I'm now 41 :)
Last time I saw him live was my 50th birthday. He played this both ways - electric and acoustic. He rocked both.
Tears in Heaven. Clapton wrote this after his young son died after falling from of their apartment window. His grief, I believe was comforted by his music.
I believe this may be the concert I attended with my sister in Nashville in September of 2021. It was absolutely amazing.
I think its great that you open yourself up to all there is musically to enjoy. Keep it up!
I love both versions of this song. Eric has a great album that’s all duets with BB King and it’s wonderful.
One of the guitar legends right here!!!!you should here his original version, much faster and harder when he was younger. This is the smooth relaxed version. Freaking beautiful........
no tears in heaven is a must!
This is from an "unplugged" concert on MTV, back when MTV was still kind of about music. Kind of. Lol. Most bands doing these sat down as these were very chill concerts. You should look into all of them. Imagine groups like Nirvana doing this.
I agree the whole unplugged album is one of my favorites.
Tears in Heaven...
