  • A fan car famously dominated the 1978 Swedish Formula One Grand Prix driven by Niki Lauda before it was banned.
Now there is a new fan car on the block, with seriously futuristic performance. The McMurtry Spéirling; its here in the UK, and it happens to be electric.
The McMurtry Spéirling is a lightweight, high downforce electric track special with hypercar beating performance, engineered and built in Britain.
This video documents its first visit to the iconic Silverstone Circuit.
Hear from ex-F1 & Indycar driver Max Chilton and founding director Thomas Yates about what it means for the McMurtry Spéirling to meet the Silverstone tarmac for the first time.
This is the start of a journey to demonstrate extreme performance.
Welcome onboard. We are just getting started.
    ---------------------------------------
    Overview
McMurtry Automotive's mission is to bring proper engagement and emotion to driving electric performance cars. This will be achieved by taking a completely bespoke approach to vehicle concepts and execution.
First with a track going special to explore the limits of physics, then using what we have developed to apply to totally unique road cars. They will all have unrivalled performance by focusing on dynamic agility though lightweight design, innovate packaging and system integration, aerodynamic excellence, and powertrain efficacy.
The McMurtry Spéirling is an exclusive, collectible world beating track special to demonstrate cutting edge technology in its most extreme form. It will be pursuing potent performance records over the next two years, in the UK and abroad.
Designed from a clean sheet, this car delivers a step change in speed, range & circuit performance by focusing on reducing drag & weight and having downforce-on-demand from an onboard fan system.
It achieves dynamic excellence by having a bespoke battery and powertrain integrated into custom carbon fibre monocoque with semi-active suspension, slick tyres and nostalgically compact dimensions.
It is a single seat, closed cockpit, closed wheel car capable of accommodating drivers up to 6ft 7" (2m) tall at over 200mph.
    Headline stats are:
    Power to weight: 1hp:1kg
    Mass: Under 1 tonne
    Top Speed: Over 200mph
    0-186mph/300kph: Under 9 secs
    Battery: 60kWh
Chassis: Carbon Fibre Monocoque with Integrated Battery
    Racetrack Range: 30-60 minutes
    Downforce: Over 500kg from 0mph

I had no idea this car existed until Goodwood (Congratulations) always though the F1 fan car was a fascinating concept and I am very interested to see how McMurtry continues with their development and hopefully more success in the future

Your run at Goodwood was the most ludicrous thing i´ve ever seen! I literally laughed out loud seeing this thing launch and the way it just ate that course, absolutely ridiculous! 😆👌

This thing is off the hook finally a car made to be fast and not worrying about meeting the rules there needs to be a open no rules class if there isn't

What an incredible achievement. Pioneers are often not recognised when first presenting their unique creations. This will go far when the final product reaches the market so the real car fan (pun intended) can buy one. Thanks for sharing your dream.

I'm a true petrol head. To a point that I will never bring myself to buy a diesel ( however ) I can't look past the fantastic engineering that's went into this EV vehicle. Just mind blowing speed. Bravo the the creators of this beautiful machine

Your CarWow video is the best of 2022...who said an EV has no soul or sound. This thing has a friggen ton of both. An absolute masterpiece

Nothing but respect for this car. It's already an achievement and is the first electric car I thought was actually fun to watch, and fortunately it didn't have that super obnoxious electric car sound. The car is so tiny and nimble that it looks more alive even with the incredible downforce. When it comes to racing against other drivers however, I will always prefer cars that depend much more on a driver's skill and courage over the high reliance on computers, sophisticated extreme aero and other driving enhancements.

It's an absolute marvel I think. It's gonna change the game for the future of racing. Didn't know it was even a thing until good wood, broke the hill climb record in it's first showing to the public, absolutely stunning, it also looks awesome. Hats off to the mastermind of this and can't wait to see what they come up with in the Future.

This is SUPER AWESOME but only usable in time trial type racing. You would need something like 50% more BHP/Tonne just to pass the thing through the WIND TUNNEL coming out the back. The lead car experiences it's own drag but the second car is essentially driving into a 120kph+ headwind. No drafting. No race craft. No more cool passing moves as just slipping behind someone for an instant would drop your pace irreparably. It would be all about whoever got the hole shot and the reliability of the vehicle.
